Visitors Gone
After we finished up getting settled, I took Yula down to the Padawan Training Sector. It was the largest in the Temple.
"I just need to make one quick stop," I said as I broke to the left down a hall and motioned for her to follow.
Buzz buzz
I rang the buzzer on Kya's door and there was
no answer.
"Maybe she's teaching. We'll come back later," I said before turning around and going back to our original course.
I grabbed a medium sized disk from the wall of equipment and set it down on the floor in our area.
"Have you seen these before?" I asked as I stood behind it.
She shrugged,"Nope."
"This is a hologram simulator. It will act as your sparring partner. For your first time, I'm gonna set it to act in a direct response to your moves and style. It will pick up on this very quickly and will adapt accordingly, just as an opponent will. Just show me your best skills," I instructed. Then I activated it and got it started up.
Yula stepped back into ready position and I pressed the button on my remote control for the hologram. The transparent figure sprang to life into a defensive position. Yula went on the offensive, but very quickly was pushed back to defensive. The hologram took a swing at her side, which she blocked, and then the figure spun almost 360 degrees around, landing the saber on the other side of her neck. I pressed the remote and shut it off.
She deactivated her saber and looked pretty neutral. It wasn't bad, but she had pretty bad basic work.
"The first thing we need to do is review basic forms and sharpen your attention," I said before asking for her take,"What's your assessment of that?"
She looked around the room before answering,"Well, I didn't exactly have enough room to do anything. They closed me in too much," she replied in a semi snarky way.
"You need to create the space. It will come with time, but once your reflexes sharpen you can dodge attacks without getting hit. Not to mention creating more space for yourself," I looked over a few spaces down and saw a Togruta girl sparring with a similar hologram.
She was darting around, displaying great acrobatic skills,"Watch her. I obviously don't expect you to be there yet, but it's a goal."
I saw her catch herself from rolling her eyes. What else could I expect?
"Okay, as you know, there's a lot of blaster fire on the battle field. Duh. So, there's training droids for that," I grabbed one of the many spherical training devices from a bin,"You've seen these before, right?"
"Yeah, tons of times," she replied surely.
I activated it to a medium fire level and tossed it in the air,"Let's see where we can start then."
She deflected the bolts very easily, as if she was letting the Force completely take control. It was almost unnatural.
"Let's bump it to advanced," I said as I remotely moved it up a level.
She smirked and then continued to deflect each bolt seamlessly. It was really quite fascinating.
"Have you ever used more than one?" I asked as I grabbed a few more from the wall.
She nodded.
"How many?"
"When I get bored I see how many I can block. My record is," she thought for a minute and counted quietly with her fingers,"ten. I think."
"Okay, let's make it eleven then," I said as I set the blaster bolts to the lowest pain setting. Then I changed all their settings to medium. That's about the skill of a battle droid, certainly not advanced.
"Ready?"
She nodded and ignited her dark, emerald green blade.
I used the Force to position all eleven of the droids in various spots in front of her, trying to recreate the battle field.
She started out okay, but it slowly got rocky.
"Focus! Remember, trust in the Force. It will guide you and keep you safe. Trust it!" I instructed as things started doing downhill.
She'd had a couple really close calls at this point.
"I can't!" Was her reply.
"Close your eyes!" I then instructed.
She looked as if I'd just told her to go moon Master Yoda,"Are you insane!?"
"Yes, now do it!" I insisted.
She rolled her eyes, naturally, and then snarkily closed her eyes. Low and behold, she was pushed to the point where she needed to use the Force in its entirety. To push her a little more, I used the Force to move the droids around, high and low mostly, to throw her off. Luckily, I failed. She was a natural.
"Okay, you've done more than enough for today," I said with a pleased smile as I remotely shut off the droids. They fell to the ground with a clank. It sounded all too familiar to a battle droid.
It was almost curfew for Padawans and Younglings, so Yula was long asleep. I was sitting on my side of the divided room coming up with battle strategies for other Battalions in need of help with holding their stance. Just as my eyes were about to be pulled down by imaginary Separatist cruisers, I got a transmission.
"Hello Cira Lorus. Tired, are you?"
My eyes shot open to find Master Yoda on my hologram.
"Ah, yes. How can I help you?" I asked as vibrantly as possible. That wasn't saying much considering I was on the brink of hibernation.
"An assignment, we have for you," Yoda said.
"That is, if your new apprentice can handle it. We do realize it takes time," Master Windu added.
"I think she'll be ready. But if it's possible, I'll keep her and I on the lighter end for her first fight," I replied.
"A wise decision. You and your troops will be sent to the Desert planet, Gamior," Master Windu said.
"When more information becomes available, I'll contract a battle plan. Thank you Masters," I said.
They both smiled and bowed their heads before shutting down the transmission. Then sleep quickly won me over and I collapsed in a heap on the table.
