~Cira POV~
I slept well knowing the Republic was taking care of things as they should be. They'd found who I believed wholeheartedly was the killer. One of Chu-Chi's staffers looking for a desperate way out of the Seperatist. At least he's gotten his wish. The Republic has since read this is as desperation and will be helping the moons, causing the new Representatives to vote to stay with the Republic. Thank Force for that.
I was confident that we'd be just fine. We were still in custody merely because it wasn't a done deal, but it was almost. We'd be out of here tomorrow. But Yula still wasn't so sure.
Something was bothering her aside from the crime and our role in it. Sure, I can't imagine how stressed she must be. It's always been a struggle for her to be calm in situations like this and keep a clear mind. Contrary to what she thinks, the Republic is handling the situation now. All they needed was time for Democracy to run its course. Something else was bothering her.
She isn't having second thoughts about the war, is she?
Don't get my wrong, this war is a devastation and needs to end soon. But, the Republic is the hero here. They're the ones who value lives and prosperity. We're fighting for those things while the Seperatists are fighting against them. She sees that, right?
She's got to. I mean, she is only 17, but she's wise beyond her years. She's just confused and probably feeling lost. She just needs a good night's sleep and then will get back on track with the Republic.
During the night, something woke me up. It wasn't a sound, but a feeling. The feeling was as if despair itself was tapping me on the shoulder and radiating from Yula's Force Signature. I wanted so badly to go wake her up, talk to her, help her. But she needed sleep more than anything at this moment, so I let her remain asleep. The Feeling kept me up all night, but she clearly needed sleep tonight.
In the morning we were first greeted by a single Clone Trooper from the facility. The same red and white armor that we've been seeing all too frequently.
He stood in the doorway and left s his next to him. "They've cleared all your charges and the other suspect confessed. You're free to go without any repercussions." His voice seemed less rigid now.
I shook Yula a bit to wake her up. She groggily sat up, her hair a crazy mess and drool dried up on her face. I couldn't help but laugh at her.
She smirked and laughed a bit,"Shut up."
"Let's go, kid. We've got work to do."
~Yula POV~
I wiped the drool off my face and ran my hand through my hair as best I could. It was a lost cause though. My huffing and puffing with frustration was cut off unexpectedly by seeing Jek sitting down on a bench outside the main doors to the detention facility we'd been in the past days.
"Hey Miss 17!" He said with an adorable smile and stood up.
I laughed and smiled seeing his bright red eyes for the first time in over a month. "Hey Jek," was all I said, but with humor in my voice and an undeniable smile. I could sense Cira's happiness as well.
"Hi Master Lorus. Is it alright if Yula and I go train?" He asked politely. I knew this old trick. Say you're training but you really don't. Genius right? Not really.
She chuckled,"Of course Jek," Cira turned to me and smiled,"I guess I'll catch up with you later then?"
"I'll be back soon. Definitely in time for the trial."
"Good, just keep me posted."
"Will do."
"So, where are we gonna go while we pretend to train?" I asked quietly as we walked through the main hall of the Temple, towards the exit.
"I was thinking the gardens in the center of this sector. I even packed food."
We were approaching the doors to the hangar bay that contained personal vehicles for Jedi. We each had small speeder bikes. "I like the sound of that!"
He laughed and we got on the bikes, then drove off before anyone could see. We've done this before.
After a short ride, with the Temple being so close to the center of Corasaunt anyways, we parked the bikes and found a bench under a tree. Vibrant flowers in all colors were growing abundantly all over the garden. I just wish the smell translated as well as the sight. Though, this was as beautiful as this planet gets.
"So, how was your vacation?" He asked as we ate breakfast. He packed Poppy Muffins, my favorite.
"Really... really eye opening. My mom's pretty damn cool, and shockingly loving to a child she doesn't even know. She seemed to like Cira too. Oh! And I have 2 little brothers who are twins."
He stopped chewing and he held a blank stare for a brief moment. "That's pretty insane. By also awesome!"
I shrugged,"I almost wish I never went," I set my food down and my gaze fell to the stone slab ground,"It's like I saw what I'm missing out on."
He looked at me thoughtfully,"Do you wish you were there instead? Being normal?"
I thought for a minute. "Yes and no. Yes, because I feel confused with this whole war business. But no, because if I can use the Force, I need training. Jedi training," I playfully nudged his shoulder with my elbow,"And you're cool I guess."
He smirked and poked my side in response, which I hate. I always collapse over and it's super embarrassing. He calls it a "taze."
"Really?!" I shouted with a laugh.
"Yes really!" He got up and started running backwards away from me,"Whatcha gonna do about it?"
"Oh I'm gonna kick your ass," I said with a devious smirk as I chased him. He turned right side around and started running away. He was fast, but no match for a good old fashioned Force push.
He seemingly tripped over nothing and fell to the ground with a hilarious thud. Then he started rolling towards a nearby tree, but not before he force pushed me back.
I fell too, laughing the entire time, and then managed to sit myself up against a tree. He rolled over and plopped himself there too. We were shoulder to shoulder now.
We both looked over, catching our breathe, and he nudged me in the ribs. I retaliated with a smirk and he laughed. Then we just seemed to get lost in each others eyes. Mine a deep brown. His a beautiful, glowing red. We just sat there staring for a bit, completely aware that nobody else could see us in the garden and that we weren't in the Temple. This happens pretty frequently. But usually, we're in the Temple, being watched by someone. This is a bad idea.
"You're... beautiful... I've uh, I've never told you."
"Jek..." I hated him for doing this. We both know it's a horrible idea.
He just sighed and leaning away, now sitting cross legged a few feet from me.
"Don't."
He sighed and looked at me, giving up. I could sense sadness, but also clarity from his Force Signature. Maybe this was like closure for us,"But it's not just me, right?" His expression was soft and hurt.
"Dammit," I muttered under my breathe,"No. But this can't- won't happen so that's irrelevant."
He smiled,"I'll at least take that."
I smiled and stood, offering him a hand up, which he took. Then we went to the Temple.
On the way back we talked more about how he's been doing without a master. He's almost like a Jedi-for-hire now. He jumps around helping on any and all missions. Obviously he misses Master Ell more than anything in the Galaxy, for Force sakes he was basically his father, but he was also surprisingly enjoying the excitement of the u known. Meanwhile, I feared it.
We continued to talk like normal, as if earlier today hadn't happened. Mostly because we both wished it never did happen. And then because we were each other's only friends. I can't lose him and he can't afford to lose someone else in his life. No matter what, like we promised when we were younglings in the same clan over 10 years ago, best friends forever.
