12 - This Is Gospel
This is gospel,
For the fallen ones,
Nare-do-wells and sufferable bastards.
PAX GORDON
_____________
Pax woke up to the ringing of her phone. Her eyes were dry and as far as she could tell, Molly hadn't moved an inch. Pax picked up the phone and said, "Hello?" "Pax," Pey's voice sounded urgent. "Dad's alive." Pax's eyes popped open. "But not for long," Pey added. "Well, good morning to you, too."
Lily yawned and asked, "Remind me again why we're driving to a hospital three towns over at six thirty in the morning?" "I've told you, Lily. It's my dad." "Right, right. Asher Gordon. What a character." Lily had only met Pax's father once. Not soon after Eliza and Asher had divorced, Pey and Pax had gotten news from Rhode Island that an Asher Gordon had been killed in a boat crash. Now, though, Pey said that that Asher's relatives lived in Iowa. The police had searched for the nearest Gordons, who just happened to be them. Now, their father, their Asher Gordon, was dying, and Pax did not plan on losing her father three times.
Pax burst into the hospital room, Lily following three feet behind. Pey, Misty, and Keira stood at the bedside, along with a nurse. "Are you family?" The nurse asked in a voice that could grate nails. "Yes. I'm his daughter." "Very well." The man on the bed was not much ; a dirty lump almost completely covered in a white bedsheet, but he was her father. "Paxton," he said, his voice frail and feathery. "I'm here, Dad." "And is that Lily I see?" "Yes, sir, Mr. Gordon," Lily chirped. "Good, good. Now, who are these other two?" Mr. Gordon asked, directing the question towards Pey. "This is my wife, Keira." Pax's father squinted his eyes at her, then smiled. "She seems like a fine girl." "And my name is Misty. I'm Eliza's step-daughter." "Eliza remarried?" "Yes, sir." "To that Tanner boy she used to talk about?" "Yes, sir." He smiled. "Glad you came to see me." "Dad, what happened to you?" "Now, I don't quite recall. Do you, ma'am?" The nurse sighed. "I've reminded him three times today. Mr. Gordon, you got in a car crash." "Oh, yes. Now I remember. The other car was -" suddenly, his voice became raspy and weak. "- yellow."
And, that, was the last word spoken by Asher Evan Gordon.

Hey guys! The song is This Is Gospel by Panic! At The Disco. The line 'for the fallen ones' represents Asher's death.
Anyhow, on to question time!
1. Are we going to miss Asher?
2. Does he seem like a nice guy?
3. Who's gonna look the hottest in their funeral clothes? ;)
4. Do you think Eliza will go to the funeral?
5. What did you think of Misty showing up at Asher's deathbed?
6. Are you surprised by Pax's full first name?
7. Asher's last words - sentimental or needlessly goofy?
8. And finally, why do you think Eliza and Asher divorced, and how does this answer back up your answer for #4?
Ok, bye guys, I love you all!
