"We are not done! You can't just leave! Hey!" Chase couldn't believe it. Literally some guy that he didn't know well just dumped a sick female dog right outside his door step. Grace looked at Chase with a very sad and drowsy eyes, as she started to whimper. "No you are not the one that is supposed to cry! I'm the one who's supposed to drink bleach right now." Chase slapped his own face with his paw as he rushed into the front yard with his hunting rifle and tried to chase after Russell.
Of course he was long gone. How desperate he is indeed. Chase literally could see himself doing it, driving his own personal cop truck chasing after Russell and crash upon his vehicle. Pulling him out of the car and bashing him up many times on the ground. You can't just drive away in a middle of a conversation and worse, leaving his own dog here.
As Chase gave up hope and entered back to his house, Grace the dog hugged Chase with her paws and licked his face.
"Gross." Chase showed a moody face as he realized that Grace's saliva smelled like rubbish incinerators in contamination plants. After which, Grace yawned anxiously and slept on Chase's personal sofa in the living room. Of course Chase wanted to cry as Grace clearly didn't have a bath for weeks judging by the number of fleas around her.
Without delaying, Chase walked towards Grace and started to communicate with her. "Here's what I am going to do." The female dog raised her ears a little at this, technically a solution that was hoping for. "I will call somebody...I mean.. the vet, okay? Look at me I'm just a pup I can't take care of you." Grace looked at Chase with bright future eyes and went back to sleep on the sofa. Chase felt a sense of accomplishment and the trust within her was hard to behold. It seems very familiar to Chase at this point.

Looking at Grace being let off by Russell, especially at his own home, it reminded him of his previous combat team back in the days. It was exactly the same. He was dumped by many owners from pet shops and totally no one wants him as their favourite pups. Living alone now makes Chase feels that he should be a better pup for other people, or dogs.

Chase exhaled deeply and looked around his property. Looking at how much he have built and saved up just to purchase a winter lounge house within the mountains. Near his house, a stand of aspen trees had steadily advanced out of the woods, and they always went to colour early. Some of the leaves were already full gold, as sunlight bouncing off them in flaring explosions of yellow. It make Chase restless, all the beautiful scenery right outside his house, as if he wasted his time buried himself under a roof when he should have been out on the trails, drinking beer in the afternoon. But he couldn't go anywhere now with the current state of Grace.

"You okay?" Chase asked doubtfully as he approached. She wagged her tail a bit before closing her eyes to get some rest. That was what he was supposed to do right? Just to ask she was doing fine. "You...want some paw patrol treats? Play some games? You hungry? Are you sick? Of course she's sick, stupid me." Chase thought to himself and felt insane. He couldn't take care of a dog.

Chase had a feeling that Grace felt a bit cold. Therefore he went to his back room to get some new blankets and pillows for a dog to lie on to. Chase placed the pillow on the sofa and covered the blanket over her, noticing that she felt more comfortable and relaxed. Out of a sudden, Grace licked Chase's face and cuddled upon him. "Hey! Personal space-...." Chase exclaimed with surprised joyfulness when he remembered that he needs to call the vet about her condition. "Oh right. I better call the vet."
Chase's paws started to press on the telephone buttons and waited for them to pick it up. Chase realized that he was babbling a little and definitely didn't know what to say to Grace, and he was pretty close to a flat-out panic. He started to think about what's going to happen next and what should he do about Grace? Chase kept having these thoughts even when the call was on.
"Hello? Hello? This is Sunshine Vet Clinic how can I Help you? Hello? Hello?"
Chase immediately came back to reality and replied in a panic way. "Yes yes I'm here what seems to be the problem today?" Chase asked the lady on the phone.
"Are you okay sir?" The lady asked on the phone worriedly.
Chase realised that he was stupid enough to ask the vet whether they have a problem instead of he himself having a problem.
"Oh right, I'm sorry I mean I have a problem with my friend's dog. She's very sick and needs immediate medical attention." Chase said as he started to sweat a bit due to being nervous.
"Okay no problem. May I have you and the dog's name for your upcoming appointment please?"
"Chase Derrain. The dog's name is Grace."
"Oh wow Chase Derrain good to see you. How are you lately? I'm sorry for what have happened to your team of friends...."

Chase stopped for a moment and reflected on what the lady on the phone just said. He recalled back to the day when he was in a mission in capturing a huge syndicate with over thousands of drug transportation history. It was a day full of darkness in Adventure Bay, when one of the tall towers from middle to top is on fire. Chase was the front liner that day and he remembered his friends and paw patrol team following behind him, under the command of Ryder Hertz. It was one of his most major missions till date. His team objective that day was to solve the burning tower mystery that have a high chance in involving that huge syndicate that they have been trying to crack up for. Chase realized that it was a trap when one of the SWAT team member accidentally stepped onto a triggered land mine. "It's a trap!" Chase alerted them but its too late. Some soldiers were seen burning and exploding apart as the impact hit onto Rubble as he fell down hard to the ground. Tracker was nearby, and immediately carried Rubble up within his torso on his back, knowing that Rubble at that point was still semi conscious. "We got to go, we need to..." Chase's teammate, Darryl, was shot down by a sniper in the next building as Chase realized that they were being spied at that point of time.

What he saw next was a few snipers equipped with laser beams, maybe about two to three of them stationed in different floors trying to get an angle on specifically the paw patrol team. Knowing the fact that they were constantly aiming at the pups' torso with the red laser pointer. He also noticed a briefcase being thrown to another unknown person a few floors below one of the shooters, as he ran away in a jiffy down the stairs and into the unknown.

"Rocky, Zuma, we got to go!" Chase demanded them to run as far as they can and never look back. Chase got up and made a dash towards another hiding spot to report the scene. As many soldiers and police officers disappeared behind the light of fire, Zuma and Rocky had no choice but to jump off to escape the building from the seventh floor that was on fire with explosions, falling off from the edge of the remaining concrete onto the ground.

Chase zone back to reality and answered blindly. "Ya I mean...I'm alright thanks for asking." Although Chase himself knew that this isn't alright at all.

" You and Ryder Sir definitely made a great team in saving London that time." The lady laughed on the phone and even thanked him personally for serving for the country.

Ryder, Chase recalled. It was him. He was the one who saved him during his pup days. When no one loved him, Ryder was the only child and human in the world that adopted him. But why does this have to happen to him....

"Mayday mayday! We are under Attack! We have to go!" The pilot shouted across the channels in the radio as the final emergency departure was announced. To Chase, this means that he needs to catch that last flight or else he won't be able to escape. There's too many flanks and enemies against them.
As Chase was about to reply and send his hiding spot details specifically, he felt a big impact on top of him. Tracker was shot in the distance of the same floor as both Tracker and Rubble fell onto the ground abruptly. Chase immediately hooked Tracker and Rubble with his last while using his grappling hook and net for them to land safely together from the 8th floor, right above Zuma and Rocky initially before. Chase noticed that the floor they are in about to be disintegrated and he had to make a jump from the 8th floor. "Rocky and Zuma, go back HQ. All the best." Rocky and Zuma, who landed on the concrete ground survived the fall with an emergency parachute released right above fifteen feet off the ground. Chase had no other options as he was going to jump off the building without thinking. "You are mad Chase! You don't have a parachute remember?!" Rocky shouted as the building exploded behind Chase, as he jumped immediately and fell into the rows of a nearby tree, unconscious and bleeding profusely as he closed his eyes in pain.....

"Hello? Hello?" The lady started to worry about Chase as Chase closed his eyes.
"What? Yes, yes, I'm still here." Chase replied as he opened his eyes with horror and came back to reality.

"Okay Mr Derrain you really need to focus during phone calls it's very rude to ignore people when they are trying to communicate. The appointment is tomorrow at 8 in the morning. See you there. Don't forget to take responsibility of the dog for today. The vet will examine her tomorrow."
"Okay." Chase acquiesced weakly after his thoughts of the past. After he hung up, he turned away from the telephone and shouted aloud.

"But it's not my dog!"

He realized that it was too much for him to take in during those days. As he kept himself together, Chase carried the food that was given by Russell and examine it. The food itself doesn't smell nice and Chase had a bad feeling that he shouldn't feed these to Grace.
Chase went to the kitchen and carried his own sack of pup food from the bottom cupboard to the living room. Weighting at 5kilograms, Chase have to push the sack of pup food slowly towards the living room. Unexpectedly, Grace turned up in the kitchen and helped to push the sack. This is the first time ever Chase felt happy to have a "partner" with him in his home.
Grace watched Chase as he poured some of it into the metal bowl and she eased to her feet and padded over to it, putting her nose into her so called dinner. Chase rested on his four paws and watched as she picked out a mouthful of the most appetizing pellets that chase always loved to eat. Dropping the food in the floor, and ate one by one slowly from there.
"That's good right? It has always been my favourite." Grace wagged her tail happily, showing signs that the food is definitely appetizing for her. After finish eating, she drank some water that Chase had set out for her, and then sat down and looked at him.
"What?" Chase looked up at her, as she stared at Chase with her tongue sticked out.
Chase knew those signs. She's happy to be here. However that doesn't stop Chase from being mad at Russell for dumping poor Grace at her home to defend for himself. Without further waiting, he picked up Russell's phone number from his pup tag communicating device, numbered off his caller ID and dialed. It rolled straight to voice mail. "That bastard." Chase said to himself quietly.
"Hello Russell, this is Chase. You're probably still in the air or arrived at your destination but unwilling to pick up. I have talked to the vet and booked an appointment with them tomorrow morning. I expect a full payment for her medical fees and do not expect me to pay for the appointment. Call back when you are free. Have a good day nonetheless." Chase realized that he was wincing when he hung up.
"Have a good day nonetheless? Why did I even say that?" Chase slapped his own forehead and in fact Chase should have said: You better come and get your dog home or else you will be in big trouble!
But as Chase is just a pup and a very understanding one, there's even a point when he wanted to beat some random guy or dog up, in the end he didn't really do it as he forgives them. What a pup.

It was close to midnight. After having a long shower that was under Chase's care, Grace definitely smelled better. "Especially when you have anti-bacteria dog showering foam." Chase chuckled to himself as he helped her to clean up. After that, Grace walked herself to Chase's bedroom and drifted off to sleep. Chase started to monitor her situation during that entire night to Ensure that she's feeling well. "You will be fine Grace." Grace definitely understand the words Chase said as they both are under the same category of dogs. "Are you scared? Are you homesick? Is the bed comfortable?" Chase asked a lot of these questions to Grace but he can see that she's too tired to reply to the questions he asked.
"I'm sorry Grace." Chase replied as he knows that he's disturbing her sleep. He was worried for her as he doesn't want her to turn out like what had happened to his friends back in the days. Chase reminded himself that he cannot let Grace suffer innocently from what Russell had done. With that, Chase pulled over the blankets over her with his small jaws, and he sat down on the floor and trying to get some sleep.
Suddenly, Chase felt something sharp grabbed his collar and in a second he was in the air. "What the?" Chase looked up and noticed that it was Grace that carried him up. She placed Chase beside her on the bed as she snuggled against Chase and drifted off to sleep.

Chase felt that Grace is actually not a bad dog after all. "Oh Grace..." Chase mumbled to himself, but somehow Grace understands. Surrounded by his squeaky toys and soft toys, both Grace and Chase drifted off to sleep in a deep and quiet night.
