Once Upon A Full Moon

Halloween, personally my favorite holiday, what's not to love about it? The time to scare people, at least that what some pups thought until it was too late.

<><><><>

The pups were having fun around the Lookout, playing hide & seek. With Halloween only being almost a day away, Ryder was busy hanging up Halloween decorations inside the Lookout. People didn't really stop by the Lookout around Halloween, some say because the it's too much of a hassle while other say it's because the land is cursed.

Let's see which option is true.

"Gotcha! You're it!" A certain optimistic Cockapoo squealed.

"Let's see how long that lasts, air pup!" A German Shepherd competitively yelled out as the Cockapoo ran away.

After some time chasing her, Chase lost the pup, as a matter of fact, he noticed that it was quiet, like everyone just disappeared.

"Skye? Marshall? Hello?" Chase called out. "Pups, this isn't funny!"

As Chase was slowly starting to lose his cool, he noticed something hidden in a bush close by, he looked around as he felt like something was watching him.

"Pups, quit it! This isn't funny!" Chase frantically yelled out as whatever was watching him got closer and closer.

Until.

"Boo!" A certain Dalmatian jump scared the poor Shepherd, who fell back yelping.

Laughter filled the air as the pup realized what just happened.

He just got pranked by his own teammates.

"You got him good, Marshall!" Rocky said as he and Zuma shared a laugh.

"Haha, very funny." Chase shrugged as he shook himself off.

"Oh, come on, Chase. It was just a prank." Marshall defused.

"Really thought something happened, like you pups just disappeared." Chase stated.

"Oh come on, has Otis got to your head or something? You don't believe in those tales do you?" Rocky asked.

"Nah, come on, you pups want to play some Pup Pup Boogie?" Chase asked.

"Sure, let's go!" Skye lead the way.

As Chase followed, he couldn't get his mind off what he saw back near that bush, he figured he'd forget about it soon enough but the pup had other plans.

As night rolled into Adventure Bay, the pups headed off into their pup houses as they called it a night, Chase on the other hand, decided to check out what he saw before Marshall decided to scare him.

The pup sneaked out of his pup house and made his way towards the area with a small flashlight in his mouth, after some time he eventually found whatever was hidden within that bush.

A hatch?

The pup opened the small hatch and looked down at the darkness that stood before him, the pup decided that it wasn't worth heading down there but it didn't matter, the Shepherd ended up tripping and fell straight into the cave like area, the hatch closing in on him after.

The pup fell into a puddle which almost broke his fall, the flashlight landed somewhere close by as the pup groaned in pain.

"Ah! Darn it! Ryder! Marshall!" Chase yelled out as he tried standing up.

The pup looked around frantically for the flashlight, he saw it and went to grab it, ignoring the pain he just received from falling.

The pup limped to the flashlight and as the pup picked it up, he looked at his paws and noticed that he had blood on his fur. The pup looked as he saw strange things carved onto the walls, he couldn't really make out exactly what it meant, but he had some notion.

"What the?" Chase questioned as he examined the carvings.

The carvings consisted of a group of people, looked like natives of some sort with a pup in their hands.

The Shepherd continued to look on as the carvings kept going. It looked like the pup was bathed in something and then the next set showed a vicious beast attacking the natives.

Chase shuddered as he kept trying to find a way out, the pup looked up and around and as he was walking, he was face to face with a skeleton. The Shepherd fell back in fear as he saw the bony figure. He noticed something in its hand, it was a note.

Chase looked around, making sure nothing was creeping up on him, and grabbed the note and shined the flashlight on it.

"If you found this, it is too late for you as it is for me, I trapped the beast in here but at what cost? I'm sorry that this happened but the beasts blood has baptized you. It's only a matter of time before it takes you over on a full moon. There's isn't a way to stop it, at least not to my knowledge. Good luck to you, whoever you are."

The pup started to panic, he needed to get out of that area fast. The pup frantically moved past the carvings but ended up tripping, hitting his head and falling unconscious.

<><><><>

Voices were heard as the Shepherd started to regain consciousness. His eyes opened as he saw the familiar pups stand before him, making sure he was okay.

"Hey you, you're finally awake." Ryder smiled as he handed a bowl of kibble to the pup.

"What the? Pups? I thought I was..." Chase trailed off.

"Thought you were what?" Ryder asked.

Chase didn't know what happened, one moment, he's panicking in cave and then the next, he's back in the Lookout.

"I thought I was alone, I was in this cave and-and I swear I—!" Ryder cut the pup off.

"Chase, what're you talking about? You were asleep in the Lookout for quite some time."Ryder stated.

"No, no I'll show you! Follow me." Chase lead Ryder and the pups on outside.

Ryder and the others followed the Shepherd to the area where the hatch was, as Chase pulled back the bush to show the hatch, it was revealed that nothing was there.

The pup wasn't sure if he was crazy or not, he started digging down to where the hatch was but nothing was revealed.

"What?! It was here! Right here!" Chase yelled out.

"Chase, take it easy, it was probably a dream you had." Marshall tried defusing the pup's anger.

"No, it wasn't a dream! I remember it too well! I remember falling down! I—!" Ryder kneeled down to the pup's level.

"Chase, it wasn't nothing but a dream."

"No, no, it wasn't! It couldn't have been!" Chase was confused and scared.

"Chase, you're scaring us." Skye stated.

Chase looked at the pups, at the spot where the hatch used to be, then back at Ryder.

"Alright, alright, yeah it was just a dream, sorry." Chase sheepishly smiled.

"You had us worried there for second." Rocky said.

"Yeah, I thought you took Otis's stories too seriously, dude." Zuma added.

The pups laughed as Ryder smiled, happy that the Shepherd's strange outburst was over. He reminded the pups where he'd be and set off to the garage to finish up some repairs as the pups enjoyed the nice cool breeze.

"Now that that's out of the way, what do you pups wanna do?" Marshall asked.

"Well, we still haven't tried our costumes for the Halloween party tomorrow night." Skye stated.

"Oh yeah! Come on let's go!" Marshall started walking back inside the Lookout as did the rest of the pups.

The pups changed into their costumes, Marshall being a bat, Skye dressing up as a witch, Chase being a vampire, Rubble being a DJ, and Zuma being a pirate. The pups noticed that Rocky wasn't around.

"Where's Rocky? Rocky!" Skye called out.

The pup responded as he met up with the pups, showing off his ruffled fur and sharp teeth.

"Look at me! I'm a werepup! Rawr!" Rocky playfully bared his teeth.

"Wait dude, so no costume?" Zuma asked.

"Nope." The pups gave him a deadpan look. "Hey! It's the creativity that counts! I don't know what to go as!" Rocky lowered his ears.

"Argh, ye can be me matey and sing sea shanties while we drink!" Zuma put his paw around Rocky, who shared a laugh.

"Heh, I guess." Rocky smiled.

"But I can't change ye mind, if ye want to go as a werepup, then ye can go as a werepup." Zuma patted the pup's shoulder.

"Yeah, we can't force you to not go as a werepup." Marshall stated.

"Sorry I couldn't really think of anything." Rocky apologized.

"Don't worry about it, I'm sure it'll look fine at the party tomorrow, anyway we should head off to bed, it's getting late." Marshall advised.

"Yeah, see you in the morning pups!" Skye waved as she and the rest went off to their pup houses.

Something awoke a particular farmer during his sleep, he wasn't sure what woke him and his wife up but he had some notion.

Was it wolves or coyotes? Couldn't be.

"Yumi, stay here, I'm going to check out that noise." Farmer Al said as he quickly put on a jacket.

The farmer grabbed a flashlight and scanned the field through the window, not seeing anything until he saw rustling close by.

"What is it, Al?" Farmer Yumi asked with some worry.

"I think it's some coyotes or something. Trying to attack the livestock." Farmer Al asked as he scanned the area.

"We never had anything like those before though." Farmer Yumi assured.

"I know. I'll check it out." Farmer Al said as he went outside with a rifle equipped.

Farmer Al slowly checked around the field while keeping his guard up, almost jumping at every sound he heard.

As he left the field, he heard noises coming from the barn. The farmer ran towards it and went inside. The animals were going rampant, running around the barn as Farmer Al tried calming them while keeping an eye around.

"Bessie! Edwena! Calm down!" Farmer Al said as he herded them back to their area.

As Farmer Al brought them back to their stable, the two cows got back, trying to stay away from the stable.

Farmer Al investigated it and saw a bloody corpse of one of the pigs he owned, scratch marks and bites all over.

The farmer fell back in disgust, almost throwing up in the process. As he regained his composure, he heard noises nearby, then all of a sudden, he was pounced by a rather large wolf.

He kept it from biting him by using his rifle to keep it at bay, the farmer was losing his strength until Bessie rammed the wolf off of him. Farmer Al stood up quickly and readied his rifle, taking aim at the creature and opening fire.

The wolf dodged the gunfire and retreated back to wherever it came from. Farmer Al breathed a sigh of relief as he petted Bessie for helping him. He took the remains of the pig and cleaned up the stable, heading back into the house and assuring Farmer Yumi that he was fine, the people of Adventure Bay aren't going to believe this story, especially on Halloween.

A sharp pain subsided on a certain Shepherd's side, the pup stumbled as he got up. Glancing at the mirror inside his pup house, he bared his teeth and noticed dried blood. The pup gave it some thought and realized something.

He was right about the cave, about everything. There was no denying it, something bad must've happened last night and he was going to find out exactly what.

The pup quickly looked at his paws and noticed some more dried blood, the pup had to clean it out and made sure nobody found out. But how exactly was he going to do it without drawing attention?

The pup's luck couldn't have been any worse, his pup tag rang, indicating that Ryder called him and the others to the Lookout.

He slowly breathed in and out to try and calm down but the tension could kill him at any moment, he finally became calmed down and proceeded to enter the Lookout.

As the pups headed up the elevator, Skye couldn't help but notice the Shepherd's shaky manner, very unusual of him, as she glanced down at his paws, she noticed the dried blood, this concerned the Cockapoo but she knew she had to stay focused on what their emergency was going to be.

"Paw Patrol, ready for action, Ryder sir!" Chase yelled out as the pups lined up.

"Thanks for coming so quickly pups! We got a couple more things to do before the party starts, while that does mean we have to fix some things here and hang some stuff there, that doesn't mean we shouldn't take it seriously. So all paws on deck for this in case something bad happens." Ryder explained.

"You got it, Ryder!" The pups said in unison.

"Alright! Paw Patrol is on a roll!" Ryder said as he and the pups headed off to their rigs.

<><><><>

As Ryder and the pups headed into City Hall to finish up some prep work for the party, they saw a crowd of people surrounding the area, calling out to Mayor Goodway.

"Woah, anybody got an idea on this is about?" Rocky asked through his pup tag.

Ryder and the pups stopped nearby and walked into the crowd, catching Mayor Goodway's attention.

"Oh, Ryder, thank goodness you're here! Farmer Al, tell Ryder and the pups what happened last night." Mayor Goodway brought Farmer Al to Ryder and the others.

"Ryder, you'll never believe this, something attacked my farm last night! It wasn't no coyote, I can tell you that!" Farmer Al briefly explained. "It attacked my livestock and me, but if it weren't for Bessie, I wouldn't be here by now!"

"Wait, wait, are you saying you were attacked by a wolf or something?" Ryder asked.

"Ryder, it wasn't a wolf, way too big to be one. It tore apart some of my livestock like it was nothing!" Farmer Al stated.

"So you're saying it wasn't a wolf but it was too big to be one? Couldn't have been a bear right? What do you think it is?" Ryder asked as the pups gathered around him.

"Sure wasn't no accident, Halloween is here and some big beast starts making its way through my farm? I'm telling you, it's that story that Otis told us about, the one about the werewolf!" Farmer Al protested.

Ryder had a slight chuckle.

"Farmer Al, Otis's stories are nothing but a myth, a legend before our time." Ryder took the stand. "Everyone, I can assure you that no 'werewolf' is lurking in Adventure Bay to hunt all of us. My assumption is that a stray wolf got lost and hungry, nothing more. We can't let this affect our festivities, trust me, there is no such thing as werewolves." Ryder declared.

Chase nervously paid attention to the boys words while holding his side in pain. The Shepherd looked around and noticed that Farmer Al was looking at him in a suspicious way. The pup nervously chuckled and got close to one of the pups near him.

"You okay, Chase?" Marshall asked.

"Huh? Oh yeah, no it's nothing, just some pain. I think I slept wrong." Chase smiled.

"Uh huh." Marshall glanced at his paws. "Can I speak to you?"

"Uh, sure?" Chase replied as he followed the Dalmatian.

"What's this?" Marshall asked as he held up one of Chase's paws.

"Oh, that? It's nothing." Chase jerked his paw away rather suddenly. "Just found some fake blood for my costume, forgot to wash it off." Chase lied.

"Where'd you get it?" Marshall asked, eyeing the pup.

"Ryder had some laying around in storage, guess we forgot about it one year." Chase chuckled.

"Haha! I'm just messing with you! Man, it's too easy to mess with you on Halloween! Come on, let's get back to Ryder and the others." Marshall smiled as Chase had a sigh of relief.

The two made it back as Ryder finished protesting, getting almost everybody back in the Halloween mood and ready to party once night comes.

"Thank you so much, Ryder!" Mayor Goodway hugged the boy.

"It's no problem Mayor Goodway, we just have to finish up a couple of more things and everything should be ready for the party." Ryder said.

"Oh thank goodness, what will this town be without you pups?" Mayor Goodway smiled as she went to grab more decorations.

"Nice talk, Ryder, you should go for mayor one day." Rocky smiled.

"That's a horrible idea, I'm in." Ryder laughed.

<><><><>

The pups spent the next couple of hours fixing up decorations and things like that. Some mishaps due to a clumsy Dalmatian but still made due.

"Alright, Skye, just a little bit to the left...perfect!" Ryder gave a thumbs up to the aviator pup. "Alright pups, that's everything! Just in time too, let's head back to the Lookout and get ready!" Ryder and the pups hopped back in their rigs and were ready to head back, that was until Farmer Al stopped Ryder.

"Ryder, I understand your efforts to keep this party going but you have to believe me! You ain't seen what I seen." Farmer Al tried persuading.

"Sorry I couldn't be any more help, Farmer Al." Ryder apologized as he and the pups drove away, except for Chase.

"I believe you, Farmer Al." Chase said.

"Why? Trying to feel pity or something?" Farmer Al asked.

"No, because I encountered something too, and Ryder brushed it off." Chase anonymously said before leaving the Farmer to his lonesome.

<><><><>

The crew arrived back in the Lookout, leaving their rigs running while they went to go change into their costumes.

As the pups went to go change, Chase took this chance to get the dried blood off him, he washed his paws in his bowl and quickly emptied it outside. The Shepherd then went to go change into his vampire costume, finally covering his tracks that he unwillingly had.

As the sun was starting to set, Ryder and the pups were ready to go to the party.

<><><><>

The crew made it just in time, they parked their rigs close by in case of an emergency and greeted everybody, even Jake and Everest were there, along with Carlos and Tracker.

"Everest!" Marshall called out as he hugged the Husky.

"Hi, Marshall! That's such a cute costume!" Everest complimented as the Dalmatian had a light blush.

"Be careful, Ev, he could be a vampire bat." Jake teased as he ruffled the Husky's fur.

Everest and Marshall shared a laugh as Zuma and Rocky went to greet Tracker.

"Hola, amigos!" Tracker greeted as he high pawed the two.

"Tracker! How've you been? It's been a while." Rocky asked.

"I've been good, Rocky! The jungle has been pretty calm for a while now, gracias a dios." Tracker thanked. "How've you pups been?"

"Oh, we're fine, Farmer Al had some problems with a 'werewolf' but we all brushed it off." Rocky stated.

"Dios mio, is he okay?" Tracker shockingly asked.

"Oh yeah, he's fine, thank goodness right?" Rocky questioned.

The trio kept conversating as Chase and Skye walked around, admiring their work on the decorations.

"We did a bang up job, didn't we?" Chase asked.

"We sure did!" Skye replied as she did one of her signature flips, landing on Chase's back in the process.

"Ow! Ow!" Chase yelped as he lied down.

"Sorry, Chase! I didn't mean to—!" Chase cut the Cockapoo off.

"It's fine, still a little sore from this morning, that's all." Chase defused.

"Oh ok, I got worried that I really hurt you!" Skye lowered her ears.

"It's fine, Skye, I'm 100% A-ok." Chase stated.

"Ok, good." Skye sighed as she leaned on the Shepherd.

"Hey, Chase?" Skye called out.

"Hmm?" Chase replied.

"Why did you have blood on your paws?" Skye asked out of nowhere.

The Shepherd immediately became nervous.

"Oh, that? Just some fake blood that I found back at the Lookout. Tried improving my costume." Chase lied.

"Wouldn't it be on around your mouth then?" Skye asked which made the pup even more nervous, he had to think of something fast.

"Yeah but I didn't want to get my costume that bloody, besides it didn't matter, the capsule I used broke before I can put anymore." Chase lied once again.

"Oh, ok." Skye smiled as she believed Chase's lies.

As the two relaxed with each other, Zuma thought of a pretty funny plan that he would need some help with.

"Hey, Rocky?" Zuma called out.

"Yeah, Zuma?" Rocky replied.

"Since you came here as a werepup, and the whole town is worried about this werewolf thing, wouldn't it be funny if you just howled once the full moon came out? Trying to spook everybody?" Zuma smiled.

"Hehe, that would be pretty funny." Rocky sided.

"Okay, so in the next hour, head into City Hall and start howling. Oh, dude, this is gonna be hilarious!" Zuma laughed.

Rocky and Zuma went into City Hall and waited for the right time to pull their prank.

As the two waited inside City Hall, Chase started feeling different, the Shepherd started getting dizzy.

Skye noticed the Shepherd swaying back and forth.

"Chase? Are you okay?" Skye asked with some worry.

"Yeah...I'm...I'm okay..." Chase trailed off.

The Cockapoo noticed the pups shaky manner.

"You don't look okay, should I get Ryder?" Skye asked.

"No...no...I just need a minute." Chase's head began to hurt. "Ahh!"

"Chase! Just hold on, I'll go get Ryder!" Skye advised as she ran to find the boy.

The Shepherd realized what was happening to him, he decided to leave the area, trying not to get anyone's attention.

He went inside City Hall, figuring that no one was in there.

The full moon shined through the windows of City Hall as Rocky and Zuma were getting ready to initiate their prank.

"Alright, are you—?" Zuma was cut off by howling. "I guess you are."

"That wasn't me, Zuma." Rocky stated.

"What? Then who was it?" Zuma questioned.

The two pups heard noises coming from another room, when they opened the door, they saw the torn up vampire costume that Chase had and saw the wolfified Shepherd baring it's teeth at them.

"It's real! Run, Rocky!" Zuma yelled out as he shut the door and ran outside City Hall, tripping over some decorations.

"Woah, Rocky, Zuma, what's wrong?" Jake asked.

"Werewolf! It's real!" Rocky yelled out.

"Where's Chase?!" Ryder called out as Rocky pointed at the City Hall's main door.

"Oh man, Zuma, Rocky! Get everyone to safety!" Ryder ordered as Rocky and Zuma lead the people away from the party.

As people were running and screaming, Chase bursted out the door, growling and baring his teeth at anyone nearby, even chasing a few.

"Ryder, come on!" Zuma called out as Ryder stood his ground.

"Chase?" Ryder questioned. "Buddy, it's me, Ryder."

Chase slowly walked towards Ryder, still baring his teeth at him.

"Come on, Chase, don't do this." Ryder started backing up.

Ryder grabbed whatever was nearby him and got ready in case Chase tried pouncing on him, which he did.

Ryder swung the object at the wolfified Shepherd, knocking him back to the ground as the boy ran to help some of the other civilians.

"Come on, get out of here, get to your homes and stay there!" Ryder ordered.

The wolfified Shepherd chased down someone, biting down on their leg as the civilian kicked him off.

Marshall sprayed the wolfified pup with his water cannon.

"Chase, stop! This isn't you!" Marshall yelled out as he put away his water cannon.

Chase growled and lunged towards the Dalmatian, who dodged his attack and ran.

The wolfified Shepherd was too fast for him, he knocked Marshall down to the ground and pinned him down.

"Ah man! Chase, please stop!" Marshall begged as the wolfified Shepherd was about to bite down on the Dalmatian.

Skye flew in and knocked the werepup off of the Dalmatian.

"You alright, Marshall?" Skye asked as she helped him up.

"Yeah, what are we going to do?" Marshall asked as he readied his water cannon.

"We need to calm him down, tie him up or something!" Skye stated.

"Wait, maybe Katie has something that can help us." Marshall theorized as he called Ryder. "Ryder! Find Katie and see if she has something that can help us stop Chase! A tranquilizer or something!" Marshall ordered.

"Got it! Keep him distracted until then!" Ryder advised.

Marshall continued to spray at the pup, keeping him at bay as Skye found some rope to tie the werepup.

"Got him!" Skye yelled as she continued to tie the pup up, who retaliated by clawing at her pup pack, disabling it.

"Skye!" Marshall called out in worry as he kept the werepup back with his water cannon.

The Dalmatian rushed to the Cockapoo to make sure she was okay, as he was doing this, his water cannons were starting to run out.

"Oh man, come on Skye, get up!" Marshall got in front of the pup to protect her as Chase got closer.

As Marshall prepared for the worst, nothing happened to him or Skye. Chase just stood there, looking around in terror as he saw the massacre that he caused. He saw an injured Skye and Marshall in front of him, the wolfified Shepherd stood back.

"Chase? Just...calm down." Marshall tried easing the tension.

The Dalmatian heard whimpers coming from the werepup.

"It's alright, just relax." Marshall said.

The tension killed Chase, he immediately ran away, stopping himself from causing more chaos.

As this happened, Ryder and the others arrived at the scene.

"Marshall, where'd he go?" Ryder asked.

"He ran away, I think seeing us in distress brought him back for a second, at least enough to realize what he did." Marshall briefly explained. "I gotcha Skye." Marshall helped the pup up.

Ryder put his hand on his head, sighing in distress at the massacre that stood before him and the pups.

"We should've listened to him." Ryder stated.

"It's our fault this happened and we paid for it..."
