Chapter 3
Rocky's POV
Three weeks. It's been three whole weeks since Chase was in his puphouse. He would only come out rarely, occasionally to use the bathroom or drink water. Besides that, he wouldn't talk or even look at anyone.
Ryder was keeping his mouth shut. He quietly poured in food into our bowls, without saying anything. I could tell he was sad.
Marshall, Zuma and I quietly ate our food. Even Rubble was being silent. This silence was starting to get disturbing. "Guys?" I said.
No response. I only got a glance from Marshall, but that's it. Nobody wanted to talk about what happened to Skye.
I sighed. The rest of the day everything was pretty much the same. I tried to ask Ryder. "Hey, um, did the doctors say anything about her?"
Ryder slowly shook his head. "Sorry, Rocky. Nothing." I sigh. "Thanks anyway," I reply.
It was getting dark. I was getting tired, but it was a nice day out. I never mentioned this, but I always had a thing for nature. I especially loved looking at the palette of colours the sun displayed, and the reflected hue in projected on the water. It sort of relaxes me in a way.
I sit down against a tree log and stare at the stunning scenery. But then I see a shadow moving towards the woods. Chase? I decide to follow him, but not say anything for now.
I remember Chase telling me the story about his parents. Ever since they died, he would always go alone in the woods whenever he needed to calm down or when he felt sad. It was his 'happy place'.
Darkness engulfed the bay, and the woods became a darker place to stay. As the dim moonlight being our only source of vision, I could barely see Chase coming to a stop in front of me. He sat down against a tree and started to cry lightly.
I leave him alone for a few minutes, but the crying never subsided. I felt bad for him, so I walked up to him to try and make him feel better.
"Hey, Chase, I'm here if you wanna talk."
Chase sniffed. He then jerked his head towards me, caught off guard. "Leave me alone!"
I knew Chase just needed to be calmed down. "Hey, buddy, it's okay, I just-"
"GO AWAY!!" Chase raised his voice at me, slightly growling.
"Chase, it's okay, just try to let it all out," I reassure him. I put my arm around his shoulder.
"GET OFF ME!!" He yanked my arm off of his shoulder, angered.
I kept my distance. "I-I'm sorry, Ch-"
"I DON'T WANT TO EVER SEE YOU AGAIN!!" Chase suddenly dashes off deep into the woods, sobbing.
I felt horrible. My best friend acted like this to me. Not only that, but he ran off because of me. And I was only trying to make things better.
I feel heartbroken.
