Chapter 15
Chase's POV
A bear!!
The bear started to growl. I was terrified. I slowly backed away, hoping it would lose interest in me.
It didn't lose interest in me.
It stood up on its hind paws. I start to walk back slowly, but then I hit a tree. I fall down and two small biscuits fall out of my pocket.
The bear approaches me. He sniffs the biscuits. He eats them, loses interest in me, and walks away.
"Mission complete, Ryder sir!" I tell him.
"Good job, Chase! Calling Rocky!"
Rocky's POV
"Rocky, you're up!" I hear Ryder say through my puptag.
I look through my truck and find other stuff instead. Inflatable balloons, chew toys, recycling cans, a used mattress, wooden planks, Zuma's old toy rabbit. . .
Hold on. Wood? That's it!
I take the planks and get to work. Using nails, hammers, and my epic building skills, I get the perimeter secured and fenced off in a couple of minutes. Perfect.
Zuma's POV
I arrive at the beach. I use two buckets and fill them with water. I use the third bucket and fill it up with a scoopful of sand.
I leave the buckets in my hovercraft and I walk over to the dock, where Cap'n Turbot left the box with the telescope. He wasn't there, so I just took the box and brought it to my hovercraft.
Just then, I received a call from Ryder. "Make your way up to Big View Trail with the supplies! We're all ready!"
"Woger that, dude!" I reply.
Marshall's POV
With Rocky's help, I start setting up the tents. One by one, we start to set up the tents. They were big enough to fit three people, or four pups, maybe even five if you squeezed them in.
"Hello Ryder!"
Mr. Porter was wearing some kind of green camping pants with two straps that go along the top and back down. He had a hiking stick in his right hand, and was holding Alex by the hand on the left. He was panting, but Alex was really energetic.
"Hey Mr. Porter! And Alex! You can set your tent up over here!" Ryder says, standing beside his own tent.
Rocky and I finish setting up the tents. We were both exhausted, so we sat down to take a break. After we catch our breath, Rocky starts to talk. "Are you excited for tonight?"
I shrug. "I guess."
I wasn't thinking about him. I was thinking about something else. Someone else.
"Oh Ryder, this place is absolutely delightful!" Mayor Goodway's cheeful voice echoed through the entire forest. I could hear a rock slide in the background.
"Chickaletta and I are going to enjoy tonight very much, aren't we now?"
Chickaletta stared emptily into my eyes. For a moment, I thought that I knew all the answers the universe had to offer. Knowledge became just a fraction of my mind. Just by staring at this mastermind reincarnated into the form of a chicken. I knew my future with Chase. I felt an immense pulse of energy emerging from Chickaletta. Then she pecked the ground and walked away.
Rocky and I got back to work and started setting up the fireplace. Rocky went to get some rocks to put down around the fire.
"Hey Ryder!" It was Katie. She was holding Cali in her arms, who meowed unenthusiastically.
The sun was starting to drop from the sky. I figured it was somewhere around 4 to 5pm.
Rocky came back and layed down the rocks in a circle. I got some kindling. Rubble brought larger firewood. The fire was ready.
Rocky's POV
"Ryyderr dude, so glad to make it!" Jake and Everest had arrived.
Everest is here.
"H-h-hey, Everest," I stutter.
"Hey Rocky!" she eagerly greets me with a smile.
I wonder if she really likes me.
Maybe not.
Probably not.
I'll still take a chance.
Night started to fall. We sat around the campfire, telling scary stories and eating roasted marshmallows. We were having the time of our lives.
Chase, Zuma, Everest, Marshall, Skye and I all sat sat near the edge of the steep cliff to observe the stars. Chase and Skye were snuggling together. Everest and I would never reach to that.
We all sit down, staring at the night sky. "Look," says Skye, pointing to the sky. "A shooting star!"
Our jaws fall open in woe. Sure enough, a shower of shooting stars fell from the sky rapidly afterwards. They lit up the sky brightly. It was the prettiest sight I have ever seen.
Skye and Chase go somewhere alone. Zuma gets tired and goes to sleep. Marshall says he needs to use the washroom and that he'd be right back.
Everest and I were alone.
"What's your dream vacation?" I ask, still gazing a the sky.
Everest thinks for a moment. "I would like to go for a romantic vacation to Paris with the love of my life."
Okay, not my idea of a perfect vacation, but I guess she likes it, so...
"What's your favorite color?" I ask.
Everest was looking at the sky, then the bay. "I. . . I really like the deep color navy blue. It's just so. . . royal."
Dark blue? Yuck. She really likes formal. I prefer casual.
"Everest, what's your favorite thing to do in your free time?" I ask, hesitating.
Everest pauses. "I guess I'd like to go for a nice swim to cool myself off."
Swim? In water?
I almost gag in front of her.
"Everest," I start.
"Yes?"
"I. . . I'm gonna go to sleep. Good night."
I didn't even wait for a response, and I head over to my tent. I realized one thing tonight: Everest and I have absolutely nothing in common.
It turns out the pup of my dreams isn't Everest. Today isn't the day I find my true love.
That day is yet to come.
