Imagine #19: Once Upon A Time (End)

*Y/N's P.O.V.*

This is it, I guess even after Patrick and I plan my escape, it still goes down to this. I just hated the fact that Patrick just didn't show up. I know something bad happened to him, he wouldn't do that just like that...something happened to him and I'm just here, not able to do anything about it. And also, the show is about to start.

I can already hear the people just over this big curtain they put in front of my tank...I know there are a lot of people there wanting to see something like me. The other workers have begun to fix my tank too, making it presentable and so I'll be able to do my 'tricks' which I just hate. Suddenly, I noticed that someone was already opening my tank from above and the moment I saw who it was, I froze. It was Patrick.

I was too shocked that I even ignored Elaine saying something, I just know the show is starting within seconds. 

"I told you I'll save you."  I saw him whispered then jumped in my tank. He quickly swims to get to me and I was shocked because he put my necklace that my father took around my neck. I had no idea how he got this, but it's in his possession. 

The necklace was placed around my neck and I felt stronger...but how can this save us now? It's not like it'll make me invisible. I know Patrick was expecting something to happen, but I know what this necklace can only do, and it's useless now. 

Patrick looked at me worriedly and nervously, but I only smiled sadly at him while cupping his cheeks...wanting him to know I appreciate him trying. Patrick also held my cheeks and before I can react, he suddenly kissed me...

It just felt so right that time even if we know that it'll be chaos after this...but he just grabbed the opportunity and I'm glad he did. Besides, I know we're feeling the same thing towards each other even if we're different.

Suddenly, I felt a very warm feeling on my tails and with a sudden spark of light, Patrick and I fall back and something mind blowing for me just happened...

My tail was gone...and now I have human legs.

It happened all in the right timing because that's just when the big curtain fell and the people saw me...looking like a human...and they all got angry.

Patrick moved quickly and acted as cover. I also realized that I couldn't breathe underwater anymore. He just let me hold his shoulder and he swam up to the surface of the tank.

"It was all a hoax by this people! You have been fooled and they are torturing humans in here, telling them to act like a mermaid! You have been fooled!" Patrick shouted and the people continued to get angry towards Elaine and the people responsible for their show.

It was fortunate because they were so busy fending off themselves from the angry people that they paid no attention to us.

"No, it's true! She is a mermaid!!! I have seen it! We have seen it!" Elaine shouted desperately.

"You've gone crazy, lady!" one of the people said and the chaos just continued.

Patrick swims towards the ladder and he got up first.

"Come on, Y/N, let's get you out of here." he said as I look at the stairs...I slowly moved there and slowly step with my new human feet and it feels so...different and weird...I could move them differently, I was just a new experience for me.

Finally, I got up and Patrick caught me. He immediately wrapped me a towel then made me wear thing robe like thing before we jump off the tank and towards the floor.

"We need to get out of here, first. You okay?" he asked worriedly while holding my cheeks and I just gave him a small smile then nodded.

"B-but I'm not used to these feet yet...I can't ---" I said and before I could even finish my sentence, Patrick lifted me up gently then smiled at me.

"Don't worry, I got you." he said and we just sneaked out of the place.

We managed to get outside of the building and honestly, the when the sunlight hit my eyes, I almost hissed because I was hidden from it for a long time. The moment my eyesight adjusted, I realized that there are many people outside and they are wearing the same uniform, I think these are the law enforcers of the humans.

"We'll just have to settle this down first, Y/N...those people who did this to you deserves to be punished," Patrick said and he ran towards one of those people.

*Patrick's P.O.V.*

I have no idea what happened, but I'm just glad it happened. For some reason, Y/N has human legs now but I have no problem with that because it just saved the both of us from all this chaos...and now those who tortured her is up for investigation.

I was glad that the police were fast, the angry mob might have alerted the hoax immediately after it happened and they got fast in the venue. I could have continuously escaped with Y/N, but I couldn't let what they did to her pass. They need to be put behind bars, they tortured her so much and I just realized it now that I'm seeing her up close. She has so many burns, bruises, and scratches all over her body...it was just so frustrating for me, how can those people be cruel to her?

"Are you feeling fine now, Miss Y/N?" one officer said. We're currently in the station right now after what happened. I agreed to come here to end this once and for all, besides...we honestly have the upper hand here.

"Yes, thank you." Y/N answered shyly and I just smiled at her. I know she's still shocked about what happened to her but I told her to just let this all happen before we could talk about that. She's also now wearing full human clothes and I think it's perfect for her to be like this, I just hoped that her human feet wouldn't revert back to her mermaid tails just yet.

"You?! How did you do it!! How did you manage to change your tail?!!!" Suddenly, we heard Elaine shouting from the other room. We're inside different rooms and we can see Elaine from this 2 way mirror.

She was handcuffed and hysterical out there too...it's like she's gone crazy. Some officers on her side held her down as we look at her.

"Ms. Elaine, are you the one who took Ms. Y/N to that tank and caged her in there?" the investigator asked.

"Yes! Because she's a mermaid, what better cage to use than a tank for someone like her?!" Elaine shouted.

"You can clearly see her human legs, right? Are you taking some drugs, Ms. Elaine perhaps some --

"No! That wasn't there before! I swear she is a mermaid!!! So could breathe underwater! She had a mermaid tail! We caught her in the sea and brought her here to show that they exist!" Elaine insisted and the girl just kept on saying things that could be held against her!

"Okay, let's say that she's really as 'mermaid'. Why did you hurt her?" he asked her.

"Because she's not cooperating, she's not listening to me and is so stubborn to follow my instructions! --

"Okay, enough! It's clear that you're really the one at fault here, Ms. Elaine...but I do think regular jail is not the place for you." the investigator said.

"What?! No! I'm telling the truth! Patrick! You saw her right?! You know she's a mermaid, you even tried to save her from me!" Elaine kept on shouting.

"I have no idea what you're talking about, all I know is I saved her because she had enough torture from you." I told her and she just stared at us and suddenly we couldn't hear her anymore and it's like she's been taken away.

"All of the workers says that same thing, that she's a mermaid but none were able to prove it and obviously, how can she be a mythological creature? Those people are just twisted and crazy enough to do something like this. Also, Elaine's brother said that the girl really had issues even before all this...that might have been triggered for her to do this." he said as Y/N and I listened. "Anyway, you're good to go now. Some officers will stay around the area for extra precaution. I hope you get well soon, Ms. Y/N. Thank you for your time." he said and we left the station.

Y/N could properly walk now, but I can still see her feeling weird about it. We both climbed into my car and prepared to leave the place.

"So, that's it, right? She won't come back and...get me again?" she asked, I know somehow she's scared, but I promise I'd never let anything hurt her again.

"I promise she won't, Y/N. You're all free and you have human legs! You're free to go around in here now!" I excitedly told her and she giggled at me.

"'m still overwhelmed, b-but I'm not fully celebrating just yet...we don't know if this is permanent or not..." she said with a worried tone. I just leaned closer to her and hold her hand.

"We honestly don't know what the future holds, but let's just enjoy this moment. We're given an opportunity in here and we shouldn't waste it, I'll drive you around...make you see what goes around in our world." I told her and with that all her worry just washed away.

"That sounds amazing, Patrick...thank you, for accepting me even if I'm different. Even if I'm not you're kind, thank you for not being afraid of me and thank you for reciprocating the feelings I'm having for you." she murmured so sweetly and god, I could just listen to her voice.

"It's all been my pleasure, Y/N...besides, it's a common mistake, but I learned to correct it...that instead of always noticing our differences, I'll always choose to focus on the similarities and because of that I learned to like you very much, Y/N. We might be physically different, but we're so alike in other aspects...so how can that difference alter all these similarities?" I told her and she just smiled at me genuinely.

Suddenly, she leaned closer and gave me a kiss on the lips and I swear I'll never get tired of the taste of her lips. I gave her a smile and started the car and soon enough I realized that I'm falling so much for this girl while we're taking our time on our ride. {|-/}

*Y/N's P.O.V.*

*Three days later*

I could really get used to this feeling...being a human is really great, most especially if you're being taken care of someone like Patrick.

It's been three days since I've gotten this human legs and like Patrick said, we're enjoying the moment. Since that day Patrick has brought me in different places and it was so fascinating all those tall buildings, and city lights, all the different cars, all the different things, and those movies and series?! And don't you let me get started with food! It was all amazing!

We went to an amusement park called Disneyland, we rode so many rides there. We went to a mall, we went to see a movie, he let me hear all of their songs, see him sing live, and I just fell for him more because of that! We also had the same taste buds! He let me eat different food like burgers, fries, pasta, and everything but what I liked the most is this pizza and ice cream! I'd never get tired of eating that.

I know it's only three days but Patrick has shown me things that could never be topped over the whole course of my existence. It was all overwhelming for me...I just hoped it wouldn't end, but then again, who knows? I'm just excited because we'd leave this place tonight...he said we're taking the plane and going back to his house in a different land.

I'm thinking of all of this the while I stayed on the balcony of his house near the beach. I'm just overlooking at the sea while thinking of these thoughts.

"Hey, princess, something wrong?" he suddenly appeared behind me, hugging me lovingly after.

"No, I'm just really thankful that I know you...and we're like this. Seriously, you are the best thing that happened to me," I murmured and Patrick pressed his lips gently on my head.

"You are too, Y/N. The most magical and wonderful thing that happened to me. Always remember that..." he told me which just melted my heart. "I love you, Y/N." 

"I love you too, Patrick. And don't forget that." I said and with that, we kissed.

Kissing him just puts me on Cloud9, it was the best feeling in the world and I could feel his feelings through that act. We continuously kiss until he pulled me back inside his room. I laid on the bed as our lips continued to move in sync with each other...I seriously don't want this to end.......but I guess my time's already up.

I suddenly felt the warm sensation on my legs again and this time it somehow painful. I winced and Patrick moved back away from me.

"P-Patrick...my legs...I think my tail is coming back. You need to get me to the sea!" I told him in worry and with that, I just saw that Patrick was broken, but he still did what I told him.

We quickly went out to the beach and let me hop in this boat and soon he drove it towards the island where I first talked to him. I seriously don't want my tails to come back yet...in fact, I never want it to go back...but I guess it couldn't be avoided. I'm sad too, most especially when I saw Patrick's reaction, it's like he was broken.

Finally, we arrived on the island, and Patrick lifted me up, putting me down on the shore where the sea water can reach me.

"Do you really feel like it's going back?" Patrick asked I know he's trying not to be sad, but I could just see it now.

"I honestly don't want it to go back, Patrick. But this is me...I-I'm really sorry." I said, I never thought I'd cry, but I guess I'm already crying.

How can I think that we can be together? It's foolish of me to even think I can leave this place with him...I'm not like him, I belong here...I was just given some time to spend with him and that's it.

"H-hey, don't be! You being like this doesn't mean I'll leave you! I won't!" Patrick said while smiling, but he's already tearing up too.

"I love the sound of that, Patrick, but you have to go. You have a flight later, right? You need to go back to your life...you can't just stay here and stay with someone like me. Trust me, I would love that but I don't want to be a hindrance on what you always dream of doing...besides, you could come back and I promise I'll always be here!" I told him as I hold his hand.

"But I don't want to leave you."  he said and I promise, that broke me too, but we have to be strong.

"I don't want that too, Patrick. But we have too..." I said and suddenly, the same spark of light emitted again and with that my legs were gone and it's back to my tail. Honestly, I somehow missed this...but it just means I have to go back to the sea. "I belong in the sea and you belong out there...But I promise you, what you did for me was the best thing that ever happened to me...I'd never ever forget that Patrick. And of course, I'll never forget you..."I said as my voice crack because I'm crying.

"I'll always come back here knowing that you're waiting for me. I'll never fail you, Y/N." he murmured and I smiled at him.

"That's my Patrick, keep catching your dreams, mmkay?" I told him.

"I already caught you, Y/N..." he whispered so softly and with that he kissed me again and I responded to the kiss. "I love you and it will never change...it's always been you and will always be you." 

"You're also the one I've always been dreaming of, Stump. But right now, we have to part ways again...Never forget that I love you." I told him while wiping my tears away and smiling at him. He did the same thing too, I know we're being strong here which I just appreciate. "I'm expecting for your comeback already," I said and he chuckled.

I started to go to the sea as Patrick climbed into the boat. I waited until he started it and begun to drove back to the shore.

"I'm already excited to go back here again," Patrick said I was still swimming next to him.

"Till we see each other again?" he asked while looking at me, I could just melt in his eyes...seriously.

"Till we see each other again, indeed," I said and he began to drove fast and I swam faster too.

I saw his boat drove back to the shore and as for me...I'll go back to the depths of the ocean once more.

*A few days later*

Finally, after days of searching for my group...I have found out area again with the help of the necklace. I'm honestly scared of going back there...they probably know what happened to me already and what I did...and most especially, I think my father is still disappointed in me.

"You have indeed proven me wrong, my daughter." I suddenly heard out of nowhere and I was shocked to see my father behind me.

"Father...I-I'm really sorry for what I have done. I get what you want to tell me and it's true that SOME people are really cruel. I learned that the hard way out there...--

"And I also learned that some are also pure to love and save our kind." he said and I was shocked because of his calm emotion. "I have seen everything that has happened to you out there and you've proven to me, to us...that not all people out there wants destruction. And that boy proved to me that there's still hope out there." he continued.

"Are you the one who gave the necklace to him?" I asked him.

"Yes, I heard him calling out for help. I saw his pure heart that he wants to save you and I let it flow to him...and fortunately, he's an intelligent boy. You really know who to like." he said with a smile and I blushed in front of him.

"But still, I'm sorry for disobeying you," I told him and with that, my father pulled me in for a hug.

"I have forgiven you already, Y/N, we have forgiven you. The council was also amazed by what you did, you showed us not to solve problems with destruction. We too, apologize to you." he said.

After that, we just went back to our other kind and I feel like I was an outsider here and everyone was fascinated to talk to me. Everything has changed too, all of then looked so positive and it's maybe because the construction of the water park has also ended. They really now believe me that 'there's always another way'.

"Um, can I just ask...what happened to me back then? Why did my tail turn into human legs?" I asked when I was with my father again.

"Our ancestors could really do something like that when it's really needed, dear. They only have to have a human with them to ask for the same thing and back then you were with that boy and it saved you." he answered and honestly that answer gave me hope.

"So does that mean it could happen again? I could wish myself to have human legs again?" I asked excitedly and my father smiled.

"You don't have to wish anymore, Y/N." he said while having a big smile.

"What do you mean?" I asked and he just pointed out on my new mark on my arm. It was an ancient letter from our ancestors which the council permanently marked on my arm. It wasn't that big, and it's honestly beautiful to look at.

"We all talked about that one of our kind should really stay a representative out there...see if any other of our kind are being treated horribly so that one could save them...and we chose you, Y/N. That mark will allow you to have human legs everytime you reach the shore and it would stay as long as you want and need to. Of course, you can revert back to being a mermaid if you wanted too, just as long as you're in the sea of course." he explained which just made my eyes grow wide.

"Is this...serious?!" I asked and my father chuckled.

"Of course, dear. You're the courageous one...and now you have this job to fulfil," he said and with that, I hugged him. "Also, I know you really want to be with that boy again...just don't forget you came from here, okay?" he said and I nodded.

"How could I forget? This is where I came from...and no matter what this is where I'll go back to.. I just have to fulfill my job." I murmured...honestly already excited of what awaits me up there.

*Patrick's P.O.V.*

*1 year later*

Finally! After so long, our tour has ended and I'm going back to my hometown and back to Y/N. I honestly missed her so bad and of course, I fulfilled my pact to her and I never really have to effort to do so, she's only the girl in my heart, really.

I'm already driving towards the beach and I could just hear my heart pumping so loud. I'm so excited and I just missed talking to her so much and I bet she do too. I no time, I arrived in there...and the honestly the beach became a lot quieter after Elaine's resort was closed down because of what happened a year ago...but it honestly doesn't bother me. Besides, it'll be good for this beach, it'll stay healthy and all the creature living in it.

I immediately climbed down of my car and hurried to the shore...I was just too excited that I headed here before going to my vacation house. I love hearing the waves, the smells of the sea, and the cold breeze in here. It makes me unconsciously smile.

"Y/N?! I'm back...I really really really missed you!" I shouted I'm happy that no one is around and I could just call her out in here.

I kept looking at the sea...and after a while I still got no response.

"Come on, Y/N...didn't you miss me?" I asked again, I just know that she's in here somewhere. "I badly want to see you again, princess." I continued.

"Same here, Patrick. I've missed you so much." I suddenly heard her voice but it shocked me because it didn't come from the waters and from the sea...instead I heard it behind me.

I quickly turned to see her in there...with her human legs and smiling at me widely.

"Y/N? H-how...Oh, god, I missed you!" I said and ran towards her, picking her up with my hug as she giggled.

"Yey, missed you too, Patrick!" she said and I let her down, immediately kissing her after. 

"How did you have legs again...?" I asked curiously and she just smiled at me.

"Just let it happen, Patrick...but I assure you this, it'll stay for good. Trust me." she murmured.

I guess our once upon a time story really continued up until now that is has a perfect happily ever after ending.  And I swear that's all I ever wanted.
