Chapter 19
"Princess Urmila some ladies from the bangle market have come to meet you," announced a maid and Urmila turned from the painting she was doing. She indicated the maid that she was coming to the hall to meet them. The maid nodded and went to give the information. Shatrughna had directed the ladies can approach Urmila or Mandavi to talk about their grievances and they will ensure they are addressed. Urmila and Mandavi had chalked out a plan between them that Mandavi will address all queries related to health care and queries regarding children, while Urmila will address business related and crimes against ladies.
"Good afternoon Princess," addressed the ladies as soon as Urmila entered the hall. She returned the greeting and asked them to tell what their grievance was.
"Princess you know this year monsoon was very hard in Ayodhya. It has affected the old bangle market a lot. Most of our shops are leaking and as days go by its difficult to do business there. We would like you to help us to repair the shops so that we can continue to work," mentioned the leader of the ladies.
Urmila asked them some questions on the type of damage and they answered her. Once she collected enough information, she mentioned she will talk to king in charge and soon their issue will be addressed. The ladies thanked Urmila as she stood up closing the meeting.
As she walked back to her room memories came, "Sumitranandan when are you going to take me to the famous bangle market of Ayodhya," asked Urmila. It was just one week after their marriage.
"Very soon Urmila. Mata Kausalya has gone to ask permission from Pitashree so that all four of us can take our brides to the market. His reply made Urmila giggle and he pulled her close in a hug.
As promised all the couples were allowed to go to bangle market the following Sunday. It was decided that the princes will take their brides to the best stall in the market and will ensure the ladies are able to get all the bangles they love.
Once in the bangle market Sita didi had allowed Ram jeeju to take bangles for her and Mandavi had finished her purchase quickly and had gone to roam the place along with Bharat jeeju. Kirti as usual was confused hence Sita didi was helping her as Shatrughna was fed up pampering her.
Urmila was choosing one set of bangles after another. She loved glass bangles. After some time Lakshman mentioned she was having a bag full of bangles and asked her to stop. He told her they will again come there and then she will be able to choose new patterns.
But Urmila was not willing, "Sumitranandan I want to have one set of bangles per day of the month. I don't want to repeat bangles in a month. So let me finish taking thirty sets and then we will go."
Lakshman looked at her in exasperation. She had only taken fifteen sets so far and she was planning to take fifteen sets more. Urmila giggled at her husband's discomfort. The bangle seller asked him to choose some for his wife and Lakshman thought that was a good idea. Then he began to select the sets and as directed by the seller began to adore them in his wife's hands.
Urmila was jolted to present as her hand brushed against a vase and the vase almost fell. She steadied the vase and then looked in her hands. Since the day he has left she had only worn the fifteen sets he had selected. The bangles were one of many symbols that made her feel his presence in the past thirteen years. She kissed them fondly as she walked into her room and closed the door. Now it was matter of just one year. She knew she will take this year also just like she took the previous thirteen years. Lest she knew the biggest battle of her life awaited her in the next twelve months. A battle that will test her faith, a battle that will demand every bit of her strength and a battle which she will have to fight against the one whom she had longed to see all her life.
Lakshman gathered the wood to make the fire. They were in Panchavati. That day his bhaiyya and bhabhi were happy as they had completed thirteen years of exile successfully. Even he was in a good mood as there was slight drizzle. He knew Urmila was remembering him and her memory gave him more strength to do his duties. Now it was matter of one year. They would be back in Ayodhya. Everything will be the same. Ram bhaiyya will be king, Sita bhabi will be queen and then all of them would abide by the rules set by them. He has to tell Urmila that she should pamper Sita bhabi a lot. Bhabi had weathered many storms. She had treated him more like her son than brother-in-law. Whatever provisions he and Ram bhaiyya had gathered bhabi made delicious dishes out of them. She hid her pain and tiredness in a warm smile as she knew her frown would affect both of them. A smile spread on his face as he thought about the reunion in Ayodhya. He was not realizing before that he had to go through a darkness which he had never imagined. He had to gather all the strength in this world to support his brother. He had to fight a battle of life and death whose outcome even Gods are waiting to watch.
"Mahadev, will you sit like this or will you tell me how is my brother going to reach Lanka. There is only one more year remaining for his exile," asked Parvati. Since Shiva was in meditation the Gods were asking that question again and again to Parvati as all of them were worried as nothing had happened so far to indicate Ram will reach Lanka."
" Devi understand there is one year and a lot can change in one day," mentioned Mahadev and before Parvati could ask anything further he closed his eyes and fell into Yoga Nidra.
