Chapter 16

Sulochana was reading a letter sent to her from the wife of the soldier whom they had rehabilitated in Kishkinda. The lady had mentioned they were happy in Kishkinda, she was now expecting a baby and her husband had got a job in the palace of King Bali. But what interested Sulochana was the next lines in the letter.

"Princess the brother of Bali Sugreeva has a friend Hanuman. People are telling that this boy have magical powers but he doesn't remember it. It's said as a child he had gone to capture sun and Indra had stuck him with Vajra. That's why his name is Hanuman. Even after that he was naughty and troubled Rishis. So, Rishi Matangi gave him curse that he will forget his magical powers. Then they say his parents asked the Rishi to give a chance to their son as he was child. So, it's said that the Rishi had told he will remember everything when somebody reminds him. I don't know whether this is true or not. But everyone in Kishkinda loves Hanuman. They say he speaks well, helps others and interestingly a big foodie. Queen Tara is said to be making delicious dishes for him.

I too had seen him once when he was taking a stroll with the younger prince. He looks so gentle and warm as if you go near him all your problems will be solved.

One more thing I wanted to tell you. There are rumors that Hanuman is waiting to meet Ram. It's said that Hanuman strongly feels he has some purpose in his life that's connected with Ram. Nobody knows why he feels that way about a prince who lives so far away. His parents have asked him to forget Ram as they feel since Ram belongs to a superior race why would he consider a monkey to serve him in any form."

The letter concluded with the lady wishing the prince and princess health and abundance. Sulochana folded the letter and sat thoughtfully. A monkey who had forgotten his magical powers. A monkey who is waiting for Ram. What was the meaning of all that? It was two days back her husband had given her the information Ram's coronation didn't happen and he had been forced to fourteen years exile in the forest. With this information her husband had become restless and had decided to meet his father's maternal uncle Mareecha who had a brush with Rama.

It was then a maid announced Prince of Lanka is coming to her room and the prince would prefer to have his dinner served in the room. Sulochana nodded her head dismissed the maid and decided to proceed to the royal kitchen. There were so many maids in Lanka who would have brought Meghanadh's dinner to their room with one order from Sulochana. But Sulochana preferred to serve her husband.

Meghnadh was greeted with aroma of good food as he entered the room. He could see Sulochana arranging the dishes with the help of a maid. Once she saw the Prince Sulochana dismissed the maid and indicated Meghnadh to take his seat. When her husband sat, she began to serve him. As the dinner proceeded, she asked him how his meeting with uncle Mareecha went.

Meghnadh sighed deeply as he replied to Sulochana. "Sulo uncle Mareecha told me Ram was a divine man. His eyes had so much serenity. He doesn't want to kill anyone. He had asked Mata Tadaka and Uncle Subahu not to trouble Rishi's. But they were stubborn so he had to kill them. But when uncle Mareecha fell at his feet he gave uncle a chance to reform. So now uncle is doing meditation in an ashram in Dandakaranya. He says he is happy now and is at peace with himself. He told under no condition we should make Ram our enemy. For all the love and serenity Ram has, he is a great warrior. He has been taught by Guru Vashisth and mentored by sage Vishwamitra. Vishwamitra has given him knowledge of many divine weapons. So, if a fight happens, we won't be able to defeat him because he will take weapon only to defend the righteousness."

"Prince of Lanka then why are you worried. Ram doesn't like to create unnecessary war. So, there is no chance he will wage a war with Lanka. We don't have any enmity with his kingdom and none of us are going and troubling Rishi's to invite his wrath," replied Sulochana. She wanted to talk about the magical monkey of Kishkinda. But she decided against it. If her husband knew about Hanuman, he would be more worried. Kishkinda was a friendly nation and there was nothing much to be worried but somewhere Sulochana felt her husband was desperately trying to connect the dots on how Narayan will reach Lanka. He wanted that knowledge so that he can stop that from happening and save Lanka. So, anything out of ordinary caught his attention and he chased it while people of Lanka were deprived of his service. Sulochana didn't wanted her husband to chase the magical monkey. He had so much things to do in Lanka. Meghnadh had finished the dinner and as Sulochana asked the maid to clear the table she decided not to talk about the monkey and started preparing their bed. The prince had come from a long journey and what he needed at that time was rest.
