Chapter 11

"I will make my father a prisoner, how dare he listen to Mata Kaikeyi and ask Ram bhaiyya to go for 14 years vanvas. Bharat bhaiyya will get Ayodhya in a platter and Lakshman will do nothing. Impossible."

Lakshman was raging in Kausalya's room. Kausalya, Sumitra, Sita, Urmila, Mandavi and Shruthakirti had assembled there to proceed for the coronation ceremony. They were waiting for Ram who had gone to meet his father. But instead of Ram, a maid had brought the news that Kaikeyi had asked for her two boons which King Dasrath had promised her. One was kingdom for Bharath and other was 14 years forest stay for Ram. From the moment he heard it Lakshman had gone berserk.

"Son allow Ram to come. Let us first understand what has happened. What the king had spoken to him. Without confirming the news, you are not going to do anything," mentioned Sumitra trying to calm her son.

"Mother do you think I am a fool. Look at what is happening in the coronation hall. You can see it clearly from here. The decorations are being taken off. Guru Vashisth and minister Sumantra are standing in front of the palace and are doing serious discussion. If the coronation was going to happen Guru would be doing Pooja now. Ram bhaiyya should have been here. The auspicious time is passing away. Father has gone mad in his love for Kaikeyi Mata."

"Lakshman you are not supposed to speak about your father that way. Raghunandan will not be happy hearing it my brother," admonished Sita.

"Bhabhi forgive me for my language. But the truth has to be spoken right. I know Mata Kausalya and my mother Sumitra won't agree to it openly. But we have grown up observing our father's crazy love for Mata Kaikeyi. Mata Kausalya is the chief queen. But who advises my father on affairs of the state? With whom my father spends most of his leisure time. Its Mata Kaikeyi. My father had not hesitated to satisfy any of Mata Kaikeyi's demands. Do you see any maid from Kosala and Kashi here? Leave Kosala and Kashi, tell me bhabi how many maids have come from Mithila for you, Mandavi Bhabhi, Urmila and Kirti. Handful of them right. Even they are secondary to the maids in Ayodhya in serving you.

But look at Mata Kaikeyi. She has that Manthara always around. Manthara who from childhood never liked Ram bhaiyya. Who always wanted throne for Bharat bhaiyya? Do you think I dint know all these? I was aware of it. But never spoke anything about it because bhaiyya doesn't like it. For him the whole Ayodhya is his family. Everyone takes advantage of his goodness. I am sure Manthara is behind Mata Kaikeyi's strange demand."

"Son, please stop. In your anger you are not realizing what all things you are speaking," cautioned Kausalya.

"Mata Kausalya nobody can stop me now. I am going to fight father and claim my brother's legitimate rights. If a king become weak in front of a mad woman then he is no longer fit to be called a king, saying so Lakshman rushed towards the door only to see the door blocked by Urmila.

"Sumitranandan you are not going anywhere. I will not allow you to go," her voice was firm.

"Urmila you don't know the extent of my anger. I can do anything. Stay away from my path," replied Lakshman angrily.

"What will you do Sumitranandan. Push me away or cut my head. If you do the former you will be insulting your own brother, who had stood up for the honor of my father and sister in the swayamvar hall. If you are planning to do the latter please go ahead. Atleast I will have the satisfaction I tried to stop you from doing something wrong."

Lakshman looked into her eyes. He could see the firmness in the younger daughter of Janaka. She was the mirror of her father. Gentle but fierce when needed. The sword fell from his hand and he sat on the floor.

"Mila injustice is happening to Ram bhaiyya. I can't bear it my dear wife."

Urmila sat beside him, "Sumitranandan I understand your pain. But you also need to understand what Ram bhaiyya wants. You had told me your first loyalty is towards your brother. So as a loyal brother you will have to listen to him before you take any step. Ram jeeju is wise. According to me nobody can take advantage of him. If someone believes they are taking advantage of him they are fools. He loves the universe. Love is not weakness my dear husband, it's the greatest strength. It moves mountains and make the impossible thing possible. Your bhaiyya's weapon is love. So please wait for him."

Sumitra and Kausalya looked at Urmila in awe. How she had judged Ram so perfectly in such a short span of time. Sumitra went near Urmila and patted her shoulder.

"Daughter King Janaka would be proud of you. You have made the impossible possible. Calming my son. Your wise words are so true. Lakshman she is right and we all agree to the fact that you can't do anything before Ram comes.

Sita looked at her younger sister in admiration. When had her Urmi grown up. Or she didn't see her growing up as she had always loved to take care of her. But today the woman standing in front of her was no longer her kid sister who ran behind her with complaints of Mandavi, but a fully grown woman ready to take responsibilities.

They were distracted by the arrival of a maid who announced Prince Ram was waiting at the door requesting the permission to meet his mother. Kausalya asked the maid to bring him in as everyone waited eagerly for Ram to tell what exactly had happened and what is his decision.
