The Bachelor's Audition
I opened the front door of Brunet's home and walked in, bringing in the obnoxiously loud crowd behind me.
"Scoundrel! It's clear as day that you're not loyal to your Commander!" I heard Flight insult Copy.
We all poured into Brunet's living room, waking up the once quiet house.
Beast plopped himself on the couch and opened his arms across the back of the couch. "I stand with my brother, you'll put yourself before anyone." He commented.
Copy rolled his eyes and remained standing up in the middle of the living room. He crossed his arms, "Oh yeah? They why would I risk my life to save myself and your mates?" He questioned.
Shade groaned loudly as she threw her head back, "It's probably all apart of your plan to be a bug for the Professor. I say we kill him now." She said as she went to sit next to Beast.
My mouth stayed shut as I watched them quarrel. Joining into the quarrel will just make matters worse and Copy would be dead by now.
I'm choosing to keep quiet and gather all of my questions, so I can ask Copy in a calmly manner.
The arguing preceded before me as I patiently sat on a high chair at the kitchen island. I then saw Brunet turn the corner of the hallway that led to the bedrooms.
He rubbed his eyes before giving a questioning look at all the people in his living room.
"W-who are these people, Janunu? Where did they come from?" He asked me.
The arguing ceased at the sound Brunet's voice. Everyone turned their heads towards Brunet and then back at me.
I got up and approached Brunet, "These people are my Unit...my trustworthy team." I said as I slipped in 'trust' to ease his wavering mind.
Brunet held the bridge of his nose and sighed deeply, "Oh Janunu, I've just got the kids to sleep about an hour ago. They're going to wake up them if they keep arguing."
I nodded, agreeing with his reason. "You're right, we apologize for causing such a loud commotion. If any of the sleeping children wake up, I'll have my Unit put them back to sleep." I said.
If so much as a cry comes from the sleeping babies, I won't hesitate to push the loudest out of this quarrel to put the babies back to sleep.
Brunet hummed before crossing his arms, he then scanned over the room one more time before his eyes landed on Vissi and Beast.
"Hey, I know you guys. Weren't you both the ones that tried to kidnap Ant and Zain at the school the yesterday?" He asked as he pointed at them.
Vissi and Beast looked at each other before smiling nervously. Beast scratched the back of his head, "Yeah...that was us." He admitted.
Brunet looked back at me, once again showing me a questioning look. "They tried to take your kids, how are they still alive??" He asked.
I shook my head, "If they've done that under their own free will, then they'd be dead. But they weren't, they had chips in their necks." I said.
Vissi nodded proudly, "Don't take Medu for a fool, Soldier."
Beast quickly followed behind him and nodded his head as well, "Yes, yes, Medu doesn't have a small easy mindset like you Solider. She understand things far more complicated than easy your life."
Ok Beast, you didn't have to go there. We don't need any insults said to anyone, we all have to say united.
Brunet huffed. "Firstly, my name is Daniel and I'm not a Soldier. I am a Special FBI Agent of the United-"
"No one cares Solider, how about you go back to your cozy soft bed and dream of fluffy animals. We have a serious matter to discuss, one that doesn't concern you." Shade rudely said as she cut Brunet off.
"Shade!" I sternly yelled to her.
She's been one to quickly diminish one's prideful spirit. She's quick-witted, and it could be a good thing or a bad thing.
Shade huffed and turned her head, looking away from Brunet and I.
I facepalmed myself before letting out a sigh. Looking at Brunet, I could tell that he was slightly hurt by what Shade had said.
Helping others is what he loves to do, even if it'll get himself in harms way. He's willing to help others no matter what comes his way.
Hearing that he's being excluding from our issue, must've felt like a stab to the heart.
"Ok everyone, just sit down. We still have to hear what Copy has to say, and no one make any judgment as he speaks." I said.
I heard soft groans coming from those around the room, as everyone who wasn't seated scrambled around to find a seat.
I went back to my highchair and Brunet followed after me, taking a seat in the chair next to mines.
Zain climbed up on my chair and happily sat on my lap. I smiled and kissed his temple, holding onto him as we awaited for Copy to a start.
From all the glaring stares coming from my Unit, Copy was shaking in fear. "Stop doing that, he hasn't proven himself to be the enemy." I reasoned with my Unit.
Ennim groaned and signed, "You could never know Medu."
Copy let out a shakily breath before speaking, "As you all know, the Professor's goal was to be able to have a subject that can absorb and generate energy. He had many fails in the past but the Commander has proven that he has succeeded in his dreams."
Copy paused and looked directly at me, "What's in you isn't easily found, and it's not native to the planet Earth."
"...Back in 1958, there was an important mission given to the current Commander, Space. He had the ability to manipulate the space and environment around us, like gravity and the oxygen levels we breath in. The Professor tested his limits and sent him to outer space, where he was to retrieve some kind of astro energy in the form of a gas."
"...When he came back, he was on the brink of dying from the severe injuries he received on his way to and from outer space. What made matters worse was that, whatever he came back with nearly wiped the entire Division out."
What did they expect? The Professor stole something from its natural habitat and brought it to Earth. I don't even think he knows it's abilities or limits. He's a clueless baby.
"...Members from every Unit lost at least 3-4 people and wounded many others. I saw with my very eyes as people were consumed by this bright light, while in the light they're bodies boiled and morphed. They grew hives, boils, and blisters. Then they exploded, smearing all of their contents everywhere."
"...The Professor called it the Star and once he was able to keep it contained, by using a suppressing machine, he started his trails for the best suitor."
I know this part, back in the Division they'd called it, the bachelor's audition. The Professor had first taken the lieutenants of all the Units and took them into the "Do not enter" zone.
Everyone said that their screams lasted days and nights, and when it went quiet you have to hide, because then the Professor would come out and search for his next bachelor.
This went on for a decade, and as each one of the subjects died a new one would take it's place. The Professor had a long line of other people that he's kidnapped to join his Division.
After being taken by the Professor, the Division was relieved of this anticipating anxiety and fear.
"I understand everything now" I whispered.
The Professor put that energy in me, and he was able to succeed because he did something different to me than with the past subjects.
That mission is Egypt wasn't for nothing, that piece of a meteorite helped boost my chances against the Star.
What I felt when I was in that tube was the Star bonding with me, and we became one.
I scoffed as I shook my head in unbelief, "I'm the fucking Star."
