Caravan (pt 1)

The next day you were awoken by Morgiana. The moon was still visible from your window, and it was still dark.

"Time to go." That was all she said, but I knew she wasn't trying to be curt. You've been a slave for about five years or so, and you almost never communicated with others, and when you did, all you could bring yourself to say was the bare minimum.

Getting out of bed was not easy that morning. Your bones ached and cuts stung. You desperately tried to hide the blemishes from the pink haired female, but gave up upon realizing that it would be near impossible. They covered your arms, neck, and legs.

Morgiana seemed slightly concerned, but said nothing about the wounds. It could get her in trouble, and she probably had wounds of her own under her torn up dress.

Everything passed by in a blur. You were getting instructions for your mission, but you weren't paying attention. All you could think about were the boys from earlier. The boys who gave you a taste of freedom. Who showed you kindness. You knew it was stupid to dwell on it, but you couldn't help it.

And yet here you were. About to go and observe them from afar and report back to your 'master' all from behind the bars of a slave caravan. It seemed almost too cruel.

As you were escorted towards the barred cart by tall and burly guards, you noticed Morgiana looking at you from the corner of your eye.

'I wonder, does she feel the same way about what happened yesterday? Does she keep going back to that small taste of freedom?'

In all honesty, you were curious. What was going through her head once the chains were broken?

You were roughly pushed onto the wooden floor of the cart. As you pulled yourself up into a sitting position, the people around you shifted.

It was cramped and full of people. All around you were people who were in different situations all headed towards the same, miserably fate. Their fearful and dejected expressions etched themselves into your memories.

They all looked so helpless, so lost. Their ripped clothes, dirty faces, and chains. You wanted to comfort them, to help them.

'It's okay. I'll get you out of here.'

It was disgusting.

How could these greedy, gold digging asses treat another human being so horribly?

You had only seen them talking briefly before the caravan began to move out, but you were sure it was them. Even if you had barley met them, their appearances were hard to forget. The older kid had that blond spike of hair and white robes, while his slightly younger companion had his golden flute.

As the caravan began its trek across the desert, your eyes wandered to the people around you. There were all types of people, both old and young.

Two people caught your eye. A mother and a daughter. The mother had her arm wrapped around her little girls trembling form as she tried to console her.

Morgiana noticed the look in your eyes as you watched them and hesitantly reached out and cupped one of you hands.

You flinched a little at the sudden contact, but gradually leaned into the touch. You both sat like that for a while, watching the sandy dunes roll by.

You didn't know how long you sat by Morgiana's side, but the moment was ruined as soon as you heard a low rumbling in the distance. The ground began to shake and crack as a gaping hole opened right beside your cart.

The horses twisted around sharply, causing you to tumble back before the cart came to a complete stop right next to the pit.

That's when everything descended into chaos.

Merchants and workers abandoned their carts and ran the other direction, tails between their legs. There was panicked screaming and shouting coming from inside your own car as people begged not to be left behind. Orders were being shouted but no one had the time to listen. It was complete madness.

The gates to the car were hastily opened by the few remaining workers, and people tumbled out. You sighed in relief once you saw the mother and child had gotten out safely. The child hugged her mom and smiled in relief.

However, your smile didn't last long when you saw something reach out of the pit behind the mother. A long, green tentacle like thing rose up from the hole and slammed down on the road causing a large tremor throughout the area.

What happened next surprised even you.

The ground gave way beneath the girl and before you could even process the situation you had leapt towards the child, securing you hand around her wrist.

(A/n)-

Sorry this one is a little short, I wanted to get a chapter out as soon as possible and felt a little rushed. Part two is coming hopefully sometime in the next week. I don't like to separate chapters like this, but I felt like I really needed to get something out. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed! Have a great day/night/whatever, and thanks for reading!
