Chapter 37
(Interior of the RV. Love the driver and passenger seats. Looks so comfy.)
"ALL ABOARD!" Kevin shouted as Tim closed the last door to the storage compartment of the RV.
"Dis ain't no twain, Mr. Kebin." Adam laughs as he and Patches climb onto the bus. (This ain't no train Mr. Kevin)
Kirstie with Emily and both dogs follow the boys inside.
"So what's the driving schedule, Boss?" Jenika smiles, slipping her arms around Tim's waist.
"Did the schedule last time work for you guys. Kevin, you and then me?" Tim asks.
"Sounds good to me, that is if you don't mind driving at night?" Kevin says.
"Don't bother me at all. It's a lot quieter." Tim smiles.
"Okay, cool. Let's hit the road then." Kevin chuckles, rubbing his hands together.
As they come inside the bus, they can hear the boys giggling in the bunk area. Kirstie was putting away the food inside the refrigerator, Emily was sitting in an automatic swing.
"They're picking out their bunks." Kirstie smiles as Jenika begins to help her put away the groceries.
Kevin gets into the driver's seat and Tim sits down into the passenger seat checking out the GPS.
"You girls got the address to the beach house?" Tim asks.
"WEEEEE!"
They hear Adam say loudly and Patches giggling as Kevin begins to back the RV out of the driveway.
Kirstie laughs and shakes her head as she goes to hand Tim the address.
"Jen? You got my glasses?" Tim asks, squinting to read the address.
"Yes, Dear." Jenika smiles with a slight eye roll as she looks inside her purse. "Where's your contacts?"
"They're packed up." Tim says, slipping on his glasses and begins to program the GPS.
"Hey, deez beds has got t.b.s in dem." Adam giggles, coming into the living room area followed by a skipping Patches. (these beds has got t.v.s in them)
"Mmm ta." Patches nods. (top)
"Yeah, can we hab da dop bunks?" (have the top)
"I don't see why not. As long as you guys be careful climbing the ladder." Jenika says as she carries them a change of clothes to the closets in the back next to the bathroom.
"I claim a middle bunk." Tim says, turning his chair around to face the others. "Can't get up and down well enough for a lower bunk."
"I'll take a lower bunk." Kevin replies.
"O.K., on one side, Patches gets the top bunk, Kirstie/Patch middle bunk and Kevin bottom bunk. And on the other side, Adam gets the top, Tim and I get the middle and Satchmo and Mack the bottom." Jenika smiles.
"But Satchmo snores." Tim whines.
"K..K..Keb n..nor." Patches giggles. (Kevin snores)
"Oh, be quiet." Kevin chuckles.
Patches giggles and covers his mouth, laying his head on Kirstie's shoulder.
"Patches, let go watch a mooby." Adam says with a huge grin. (movie)
"Kay" Patches says giving Kirstie a quick hug before jumping up and following Adam to the bunks.
The girls fix themselves and Tim and Kevin something to drink. Kevin a glass of tea, Tim a beer and lemonade for themselves.
They then all sit back and get ready for the long ride. Playing on their phones, reading, watching t.v., or just watching the scenery as it passes by. Anything to pass the time.
Tim getting bored with the scenery decides to start a conversation with Kevin.
Kirstie and Jenika found the movie "The Notebook" and both were totally engulfed in it. The boys were watching "How To Train Your Dragon" until they both fell asleep.
"So." Tim starts as he shifts in his chair to get comfortable. "Tell me something about yourself, Kevin. It just dawned on me that we don't actually know each other that well and I actually have no idea who Kevin Olusola is."
"My life, Tim, has been a roller coaster. Good times, drama, heartbreaks." Kevin chuckles.
"So you were a heartbreaker?" Tim smiles, taking a drink of his beer.
"Actually, it was the other way around. My heart got broken." Kevin says.
"Oh. I'm sorry. If you don't want to talk about it..." Tim says feeling bad for asking.
"No, no. That's fine. That's all in the past. I'm extremely happy now." Kevin smiles as he glances over meeting Tim's eyes.
He knew that Tim was wanting to know the details so bad but was afraid to ask.
"You're dying to know, aren't you." Kevin chuckles and Tim quickly nods with a smile.
"Kevin Olusola was born in Louisville, Kentucky." Kevin says with a smile.
"Kentucky? How the hell did you end up in New York City?" Tim asks.
"College. Got married. Had a great job or so I thought." Kevin says.
"I didn't know you were married. Any kids?" Tim asks.
"No, no kids. Actually, the marriage didn't last but maybe two years. The company I worked for ended up going bankrupt and closing their doors. Then I found out my wife, Allysa, had been having an affair and she left me for the guy." Kevin says with a shrug.
"Sh*t, man. I'm so sorry." Tim says softly.
"Then at some point, I start shopping lifting. I had no job, no wife. I didn't care anymore. Of course, I got caught and spent a year in jail. When I was released from jail, I was homeless so I ended up on Skid Row with all the other bums. Then one day." Kevin smiles as he reminisces. "This little long-haired, bearded guy came running up the streets. Ripped-up jeans, a filthy blue jean shirt, no shoes and wearing a ragged beanie on his head. There were two guys after him. They caught up to him right in front of me and grabbed him by the arm. You could tell that they were homeless too. The little guy was so frightened. He was shaking his head 'No' and was trying to get away from them. I remember one of them saying 'Patches, what do you say about going to have some fun in the ally.' Well, I stepped in to help the little guy. He hid behind me as I run the guys off. And that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. I lived on the streets for three years before Kirstie came into our lives and saved us."
"Wow. That's a pretty rough story. But you know, they say things happen for a reason. You say that Kirstie saved your's and Patches's lives. But I think all your hard times were for a reason. And that reason was, to save Patches. Kevin, if you hadn't ended up on the streets, Patches would more than likely be dead. And we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Because it was the connection of Patches and Adam that brought us all together." Tim smiles.
"You know, now that I look back. Becoming homeless probably was the best thing that ever happened to me." Kevin smiles.
"Amen, Brother." Tim laughs as they give each a high-five.
"Now." Kevin says with a raised brow. "What's your story?"
