13| Kira's Parents

Sada's POV 🍊

After we fell back asleep again until it was time to start our day, later, we were both distracted working on the research for a little while, until it was time for our break again as usual.

At this point, unfortunately, our minds were blank on what we should do.

Until something did come across my mind.

"Hey, Kira?"

"Yes?"

"I've been meaning to ask you this for a while, but if it's okay with you, could I meet your parents and get to know them a little?" I asked as I looked over at her, while I held her hand.

Just after I asked Kira that, the look on her face immediately hardened.

"No..." She answered a little harshly but coldly.

"Huh? Why??" I went in shock and disbelief.

"This might be sudden and unexpected for you to hear this, but, me and my parents actually have bad blood between each other, no matter how nice they seem to look and sound to you." Kira sighs as she looks over at me, while explaining.

"I've tried to make amends before, but it still didn't end well...It's been a long time since I've last seen them too."

"I see...But, could you try again at least one last time, before cutting ties with them permanently?" I begged.

"They might've actually changed for real this time...Please?"

"Ugh, alright...But, if they still haven't changed, we're not visiting them anymore, okay?" Kira sighed in defeat.

"Just know I'm doing this for you..."

"Thank you, and I know..." I chuckled a little, feeling happy to hear that she'll try to make amends with her parents one last time, for my sake.

Then we both left Area Zero together and started heading off to Kira's house.

- - -

Once we arrived, I looked over at Kira's house, seeing that it was pretty decent as I kinda expected.

"We're here." Kira went before getting off of Koraidon and sighing again.

In response, I nodded before returning Koraidon to its pokéball and putting it away in my lab coat pocket for now.

"Ready?" She asked next before looking over at me.

"Mm-hm!" I nodded.

Then we both approached the door, before Kira reached over to knock.

But, she hesitated and didn't knock on the door.

"Kira? What's wrong?" I asked worriedly.

"I don't want to do this, Sada..." She responded before stepping back a little.

"I know what they'll think or say, as soon as they open that door and see me standing there. And with you too."

Without saying anything, I only nodded and pulled Kira into a hug to comfort her, in which she hugged me back tightly in return.

"It's okay. I'll be here with you, no matter what..." I reassured her.

"Promise?"

"I promise...If you want me to, I'll knock on the door for ya."

"Go on ahead. I don't mind at all." Kira went before stepping aside.

After she did, I approached the door and knocked.

"Coming!" I heard a boy say.

"You have a little brother?" I asked as I looked at Kira.

"Yes." She answered as her gaze was soft at first, before her expression hardened as she folded her arms across her chest and glared angrily at the door.

"And a very heavily spoiled little sister, who thinks she should still be pampered by my parents...even if she's an adult..."

Judging by the tone in Kira's voice, I could tell right away she hates her sister so much she wouldn't care if she needed help from, or even if she died in front of her.

In response, I only sweat dropped a little after she said that.

Without saying anything, I heard footsteps approaching next until the door opened, revealing Kira's little brother.

"Sis?" He went as he looked over at Kira for a moment.

"Hey, Mao...Long time no see, huh?" She replies before giving him a light head pat as she smiled a bit.

"Yeah...Who's the girl next you?" Mao asked as he looked at me next.

"Professor Sada...I've been working with her for a while." Kira answered as she fidgeted with her fingers a little.

"Hold on...The girl genius everyone's been talking about, both all around the region and on the school grounds?!" He went in shock.

"Yup. That's me...Nice to meet you, Mao." I smiled and waved a little.

"Nice to meet you too!" He replies.

"Okay, now that you both had a nice greeting, I'll cut to the chase...Where's mum and dad?" Kira asked as she looked at her little brother.

"She wants to meet them..."

"They're upstairs. I'll go get them for ya, onee-chan...And miss Sada? You can make yourself at home. Feel free to look around, if you want to."

"Thank you."

"I'll be back!"

Then Mao left the room hurriedly a little, leaving me and Kira to ourselves in the living room.

"Your little brother seems nice..." I began as I looked at Kira, while we walked over and sat down on the couch.

"Yeah...He is. He's the only one in the house who I get along very well and don't have any problems with.

He's completely a down-to-earth, understanding, little cinnamon roll." She replies before smiling at me again.

"He hasn't changed since he was a baby, and I'm almost certain he'll still be like this in the future, when he's an adult."

Hearing this made me chuckle a bit.

"Cute...Glad to know there's at least someone in your family that you get along with well." I mentioned.

"Yeah. I plan to let him live in my house for as much as he likes to, should something happen to mum, dad, and my sister.

It's the least I could do for him, since he's been so nice to me." Kira says.

Just after she was finished and we just talked about something else, Mao returned with Kira's parents and her spoiled little sister.

"I'm back! And sorry about this, onee-chan...Miroko insisted on coming downstairs too." He says before sweat dropping a little as he looked at the orange-brown haired girl with blue eyes, that was standing right next to him.

"I take it the girl standing next to Mao is Kira's little sister, Miroko?" I thought to myself, taking a mental note of it.

"She kinda looks like one of the current members from the Elite Four...But, bigger and older."

"Heeey, Kira! Who's that pretty lady sitting next to you and dressed in cavemen clothes?" Miroko asked, seemingly being innocent, but had a different look in her eyes as she smiled.

Looking back over, I noticed Kira had already tensed up and clenched her hands into fists.

Reaching over, I rested my hand on her left to reassure her, which easily made Kira relax and unclench her fists a little.

"Don't let it get to you, Kira...I'm already used to people saying things like this to me." I whispered in her ear.

"I know. But, I don't like it how Miroko's saying this in front of me, on purpose..." She silently replied.

"Miroko! Don't be so rude!" Mao went as he sweat dropped, while he tugged on her ear a little. "That's professor Sada!"

"What?! No way! No way!!" She went before leaping up and down a little.

In response to that reaction, Kira just hid her face in her hand and looked at me.

"I seriously regret and hate this so much..." She muttered to herself.

After Kira's parents settled her sister down, they both walked over and sat at the couch in front of us, before they both folded their arms across their chests.

In return to that reaction, Kira scowled as she avoided eye contact with them.

Seeing that, I chuckled a little nervously, knowing this isn't gonna turn out very well.

Especially when the atmosphere between them is so thick, you could almost cut it with a knife if it was possible.

"So, after you graduated from the academy and left us for years, you finally decided to show your face again, hm?" Her father spoke up.

"I didn't ask to be here. I only came because the professor wanted to meet you both and my siblings." Kira responded coldly as she gave her father a death stare.

"And you didn't even bother contacting us about your arrival with her?" Her mother went as she gave her a disapproving look.

"Why should I bother to contact you both when I've already blocked and deleted your phone numbers after I graduated and moved out of this damn house? Not to mention the fact that I'm an adult now, for Arceus' sake..." Kira snapped.

"You may be an adult and at legal drinking age, yes, but still..." Her mother went.

"As for the professor, I hope you don't have any feelings for her. You're supposed to be with a guy to keep our family alive, should you get married in the future."

Just after hearing this, Kira had the look on her face that screamed 'murder' all over her before she gritted her teeth.

"She's my close friend!" She snarled.

"More like a girlfriend from the looks of it, big sis..." Miroko replies as she had a smile on her face that says 'evil sister' all over her, no matter how innocent it looked in the eyes of Kira's parents.

"Don't you agree, mama and papa?"

"Of course, sweetie..."

Just after that, I could tell right away Kira had snapped, because at that moment, she stood up from the couch and slammed both of her hands down on the coffee table.

"Sada? Could you and Mao step out of the house for a moment? Please? There's something I want to discuss with mum and dad..." She asked, clearly trying to stay calm.

"But, Kira - " I began before she lifted her hand up, interrupting me for a moment.

"Please??" She repeated.

Seeing this reaction, Mao went over and gently tugged on my lab coat sleeve before pointing at the front door, clearly giving me the hint about what's gonna happen.

Without saying anything, I just nodded and stepped out of the house with Mao.

Just after we left and stood outside, enraged screaming and yelling, while things being hurled at or smashed, was suddenly heard from inside the house.

"Yikes...This has already gotten ugly between her and her family very fast..." I thought to myself, as Mao and I stared at the closed front door for moment.

For a bit, we just stood there in silence, until I looked over at Mao.

"Have they always been like this?" I asked him.

"Yeah." He replied as he looked back at me.

"They've been at each other's throats since before me and my spoiled little sister were born."

"But, how come? What ever triggered the fights in the first place??" I asked again, feeling curious about Kira's past at this point.

"This may or may not shock you, but, mum and dad have always been the 'too traditional' types.

They constantly believe that to keep the family line alive, the sons should date and marry the women, while the daughters in return should date and marry the men.

Basically, in short terms, they don't believe and strongly disapprove same gender relationships and marriages, even though our family has a strong history of it, since our ancestors in Hisui.

The reason these fights keep happening is because they found out Kira was into other women, during her academy days, instead of men." Mao explained.

"Ah...So, they're homophobes. That explains everything." I went before nodding.

"Mm-hm...Since the day they found out Kira's a lesbian, they've disowned and constantly argued with her, while on the other hand, Miroko made Kira's life even more miserable than it already is.

Every time, she would constantly fake her illness around mum and dad, making them fawn over and pamper her even more.

While they would ignore Kira, and make her take care of herself.

Eventually it grew to the point where Kira left the house one day and never came back. She only wrote letters to me, however, to let me know how things are going since she left.

Well, at least until now, that is." He replies.

"So, what about you? Are you homophobic?" I questioned.

"Me? Hell no...Unlike them, I support and accept same gender relationships, like Kira. And..I'm also gay." He answered.

"But, mum and dad don't have any clue about it yet. They just know and only assume it's her. Not me."

"So that's why you get along well with Kira..." I thought aloud.

"It's not the main reason, but yeah, it's one of the reasons why..." Mao replies as he smiles a bit.

"Oh! And by the way...I'm not getting to the cart before the rapidash with this, but, if you and Kira end up becoming a couple down the road one day, just know I approve of it and give you consent."

"Thank you. And the same goes for you too, Mao." I say before smiling and ruffling him by the head a little.

After we talked for a little bit, the arguing between Kira and her parents continued on for what felt like an hour, until Kira slammed the door open and stepped out of the house while she continued yelling and screaming at her parents a little.

Just before she went over to me, I noticed there were tears of anger in her eyes, before she said one last thing to both her parents and her spoiled little sister that made my face turn pale and my blood run cold...

"I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU THREE SO MUCH, I WOULDN'T CARE WHATEVER HAPPENS TO YOU!!

I WISH YOU'D JUST HURRY UP AND DIE ALREADY!!!"
