Punishment

"I was hired muscle okay? I didn't have a choice!" Shouted Frost to the group of metas. Her arms were handcuffed to the back of a wooden chair. Of course she was terrified, but she was more angry than anything.

"So since you were being paid to hurt people you should be pardoned?" Lin took a step forward, wiping Barry's blood from her knife. Before Frost could answer the knife was pressed against her throat. "You had plenty of choices, you made the wrong ones."

She pulled away and thought in silence for a moment. Then, without warning Lin blew a cloud of dark smoke towards Frost. Her screams of pain filled the dark basement as her wind pipe and lungs burned from the toxic fumes. As much pain as she was in, Frost kept herself present, protecting Caitlin as much as she could.

She could hear Caitlin crying out for Frost to let her take over, to let her take the pain, but she pushed her mentally away. Frost did the crimes against these people, now she deserved the punishment.

Barry wasted no time and swept the entire city. There was no sign of Caitlin or Frost. He ended up at Star Labs, where he gathered the team together. Cisco used the satellites to search for Frost's cryogenic signature, which was located in an abandoned warehouse just outside central city.

At that same moment, the alarms blared. The team had to choose between saving Caitlin and Frost, and the rest of the city.

"I can get Caitlin and Frost, go save the city," Barry ordered. Before any protest was made, he sped away.

He got to the basement of the warehouse, she was handcuffed to a chair in the middle of the room. A group of metas stood around Caitlin, one held a knife to her throat and stood behind the chair. Caitlin had taken over for Frost and she was covered in sweat and looked exhausted. Her face was bloody and bruises were forming all over her skin.

"Hello, Flash-" the group didn't even get a word out before lightning spit all over the room, knocking them unconscious. Barry ran to Caitlin's side and phased her arms out of the handcuffs. She groaned softly and she fell forward against Barry.

"Hey... hey..." Barry gently stroked the side of her head. Caitlin's eyes closed softly and her breathing was ragged.

She was covered in open wounds all along her body and her face was bloody and bruised... She wasn't healing. This realization alarmed Barry and soon they were at the hospital. He carried her bridal style into the emergency room and shouted for someone to help them. He hid his worry as he was still wearing his flash suit, but as the doctors wheeled the love of his life away on a gurney, he couldn't help but let tears slide down his cheek.

The only time he left her side was when he changed to normal clothes and pretended to have been called about his girlfriend's condition. Cisco picked up Split and she would spend some time with her uncle. The meta-humans that attacked Caitlin would be punished, Joe assured Barry.

While the doctor explained Caitlin's injuries and how long it would take to heal, he couldn't stop thinking about why Caitlin didn't have her ice-healing.

"She has very extensive injuries, it's a miracle your girlfriend or her baby survived," the doctor explained to Barry.

"Wait, she's pregnant?" He said in shock. Barry was going to be a father... to an actual human child.

"About 6 weeks.' The doctor smiled, "congratulations."

After he was left alone with Caitlin, he pulled a chair up to her bed and grasped her hand. She looked so weak and ghastly, Barry just wanted to scoop her up and hold her in his arms forever; which isn't possible, so he resorted to stroking the top of her hand.

She slept for days, and Barry refused to leave her side. Cisco brought him food from the cafeteria twice a day and nurses left vending machine snacks out of pity. After 4 days of this, Caitlin's eyes squeezed shut and her breathing changed. After a moment she cracked an eyelid, then another, trying to get her bearings.

"Hey," Barry spoke softly. Cisco stood up from his chair and calmly went and got the doctor.

"Ow," Caitlin's voice cracked. She held her ribs with her free hand and squeezed Barry's hand with the other.

"It's okay, you're safe, we're all safe," he smiled calmly.

"They didn't care about hurting Split," said Caitlin weakly.

"No but they could have hurt the new member in your stomach." He smiles slightly as he says this.

Caitlin's eyes widen in disbelief but immediately squeeze shut in pain. The monitor's beating becomes erratic and sped up, at the same time Caitlin curls up and cries out. The doctors rush in and and Barry is rushed out. Not only was he scared for his girlfriend this time, he also worried about his baby.
