Lunch and Resolutions
They transferred Chester to Iron Heights, where he would serve his sentence, and continued catching the bad guys.
The radar sounded the alarm, a speedster was in town. Barry quickly caught up to Godspeed. He wore white with gold lightning bolts to compliment it. They ran across the city until Godspeed stopped turning, then The Flash ran ahead and turned around on a nearby building, causing severe property damage by shattering windows. He came back at full force, punching the fake speedster off his feet. When he pulled the mask off and tried asking questions, he was nonverbal and making screeching noises, just like the last 3.
Barry hadn't been around Caitlin and Frost much lately, after Frost's drawing he dived into his work. He'd talk about cases or bad guys he had caught but Barry stayed away from his feelings at all times. Caitlin was too, feeling frostier than usual. But they kept going, they had to keep going.
"Damn this is good," Barry sipped from his margarita.
"You know you can't get drunk," Caitlin replied. They walked the patio behind Joe and Cecile's house. The table behind them set for lunch, it held bouquets of pink peonies as centerpieces. Sounds of silverware clanking and soft jazz music sit in the background of the afternoon barbecue.
"I don't even care, that's how good this is." He smirked, finally an alcoholic beverage that doesn't take disgusting.
Cisco marched in, "Never fear the party's here!" He imitates air horns as a beaming Camilla walks in behind him, holding a navy blue bowl of ambrosia salad. Cisco brought veggie dogs with him. "For Ralph," He explains. Caitlin and Barry had to tell them Ralph was still out of town for a missing person's case, they didn't know exactly where though.
"Guys, guys, what are we doing?" Cecile comes down the deck stairs holding a tray with bowls full of food. She was excited she had just gotten Jenna to go to sleep. "Let's eat!" She announced with excitement.
They sat down at the table, everyone was nervous with Barry's and Iris's divorce recently finalized, but they didn't show it. They talked and laughed, Cisco made his usual jokes, causing even more laughter. For moment, their lives were normal, no metahumans or impending crisis to deal with, just the meal before their happy-
"How's the M.A.C. coming?" asked Barry.
"There's mac and cheese too?" Camilla asked. Most of the table laughed.
Caitlin decided she should explain, "No, the Mental Augmentation Chamber. Basically it allows us to tap into the Speed Force to boost Barry's cognitive abilities. It would allow him to see every possible outcome to a scenario at the same time."
"So speed thinking?" Stated Camilla, understanding her explanation.
The went on to discuss the speed at which Barry is bringing in criminals. Then Barry first suggests they try the M.A.C. out, causing Cisco to tell him it's not ready. Secondly Barry suggests Cisco put in some hours on it tonight, he doesn't agree and comes up with the excuse that he doesn't have his tablet on him right now. Barry gets that tablet and speeds it into Cisco's hands, he ends up leaving, wishing Barry didn't have super speed at that moment.
An alert goes off on his phone, resulting in Barry leaving dinner. Then Iris and Caitlin leave the table at the same time. They stop in the living room on their way out of Joe's and turn to face each other for the first time in months.
"Listen, I'm sorry, I didn't mean for any of this to happen. I wanted to stay as far away from your guy's relationship, you two seemed really happy together and I didn't ever want to ruin that." Caitlin talks fast, wanting to tell her while she had the chance.
"Nora put Carry in a tight spot, I get it, she didn't have a choice... j-just take care of him, ok?" Iris' eyes glistened with the tears she fought back. She knew her marriage with the man she loved was over, and now she accepted it. Now it was time to keep going.
