___
Your birthday, the day you finally turned nineteen. You woke up to a quiet household as always, but you noticed that your parents were gone. Odd, you thought, for a special day.
You made your way downstairs and into the kitchen, where you made yourself breakfast. You weren't much of a cook, but you did make some crazy avocado toast. After eating, you went back upstairs to take a shower, changing into one of your all-time favorite outfits.
You gathered your things and headed to school. When you walked in, you received several happy birthdays from a few acquaintances. You didn't have too many close friends in your life, but you almost preferred it that way. However, one 'happy birthday' in particular made you stop in your tracks. Jeon Noah. You turned around and gave him a bitter smile, saying thank you through gritted teeth.
"What's your problem, princess?" Noah asked
You rolled your eyes. "You are my problem."
A few years prior, you and Noah had dated. He was abusive, to the point where he broke three of your ribs, and while you were in recovery, you decided to break up with him. It was a sad, typical abuse story where, because of him, you didn't make contact with a lot of people and you stopped trusting nearly everyone.
Later on in the day, your teacher called you up to his desk. "Seungbi, you're leaving for the day."
You tilted your head, confused. "Oh, okay."
You gathered your things and headed to the office. Your parents were there waiting for you, making you anxious since they never picked you up from school - ever.
"Sorry we weren't at the house this morning." Your mom smiled. "We had to grab some stuff for you."
"It's okay." You smiled back.
The three of you got in the car and headed home - there was a nearly unbearable silence hanging over your head. You arrived at home, and as soon as you walked inside, your heart dropped.
There were files and paperwork scattered all over the dining room table, and you knew it wasn't a good sign because you could hear your parents whispering behind you.
"What is this?" You asked
Your dad put a hand on your back. "Come sit with us."
As they sat you down, they looked at each other and back at you, sighing. "Seungbi, now that you're nineteen, you need to know this." Your mom said.
You tilted your head in confusion and your dad sighed. "We're not your real parents, we adopted you right after you were born."
"I've had my suspicions, so I'm not exactly all that surprised." You replied, shrugging.
Your mother inhaled and exhaled rather deeply. "Yes, but we can't be your guardians anymore, now that you're an adult."
"What? Where will I stay?" You asked, slightly panicked. "I've never heard of that before."
Your dad smiled reassuringly. "Your real parents have contacted us to tell us that they want you to stay with them."
"Have you guys met them?"
"We have met them, and they're very lovely people, we wouldn't leave you with people we don't trust."
You shook your head and got up, shocked about the fact that you had to leave the house you've lived in all your life. At your parents request, you painstakingly packed all your things up and laid on your bed afterward.
As you started to fall asleep, you wondered what you would do once you moved out. You wondered why you had to move out considering adoptive parents were parents through-and-through, regardless of adulthood.
You sleepily got out of bed as the sun hit your face. The first thing you remembered was that you had to leave, and it made your stomach turn.
Your parents made you breakfast, and it would be the last breakfast you all had together. When you were done, you all got in the car and headed to your biological parents house. After maybe an hour of driving, you came to what looked like a mansion rather than a house. You were dumbfounded by how big the place was. You and your parents stepped out, and you said your goodbyes to them.
You could feel the tears start to well up in your eyes. "I love you guys, and thank you for taking such good care of me."
Your mother smiled. "We love you too, and please take care of yourself."
You nodded and made your way up to the front door, but it swung open, startling you a bit. A very greasy man walked out with a smile plastered onto his face.
"Hello there, Seungbi." He said.
You stepped back a little. "Who are you?"
"I'm your father, of course." He laughed, but suddenly stopped.
"Right." You muttered nervously, the smell of smoke and alcohol making you nauseous. "You have a very lovely home."
"Whatever."
He pushed you inside, and you bumped into a lady that seemed to be in her late forties, who had a disappointed look on her face. "She's already here?"
Before you could say anything, you felt a sharp pain in the back of your head, then your vision went black as you fell to the floor.
