Chapter 6
*Kalpana Pov*
"You have to go early today?" Jhanvi asked, walking near to me when I waved at Sudhir who is running inside happily.
"Yeah! Pallavi told me that she got a gossip of today being the releasing the list of promotions. I just want to go early and see what they decided this time I am capable of." I replied shrugging.
"After all these years you still don't think you deserve those promotions?" she asked frowning at me.
"No! I am just a graduate and that was also long ago." I mumbled sighing.
"You were a gold medalist and top of that you are very dedicated whatever you want to achieve. I have seen how you learnt everything too fast with Sudhir." She said shrugging.
"He is easy!" I mumbled smiling.
"Speaking of Sudhir! Did he achieve anything recently that I don't know about?" she asked in a serious tone.
"What?" I asked her not understanding why is she even asking such question.
"Well, you got your first promotion when Sudhir first walked and then when he first talked. And also when he did some good work at the test in the baby care center. And also when he got admission in this school. And..." she continued, but I was so busy laughing.
"Where did you got these thoughts from?" I asked her still laughing.
"And if he didn't achieve anything then you may not get a promotion this time." She added smiling at me.
"You are crazy! I thought you wanted me to believe all these are for my work, but now you are giving the credit to my son." I teased her.
"I am not saying you don't deserve them, but just that he must be your lucky charm. Like as if God knows you will be happy with his achievement, but want to give double happiness and hence presenting the promotion." She explained and I stopped laughing.
"Where do you get all this positive thinking from? I am waiting for the day to see you not thinking some good in any situation." I said feeling amazed like always with her attitude.
"I hope you will never." She said smiling and I shook my head before we started walking away while she turned to glance at the gate once more.
She is not actually crying like last year now but is still sad whenever we leave him at the school.
"You are early, Maam?" Security guard asked when I walked towards the gate.
"Yeah! Pallavi Maam is already here?" I asked, smiling at him.
"No! But she will be late today." He replied, making me frown but I nodded and walked inside to see most of the people are not here.
Maybe I was too early! I thought before settling in my place. I tapped my pen on the table feeling anxiety thinking am I going to get some promotion along with the members who got training from the past year or this is just my limit.
How much ever I laughed when Jhanvi was talking, I couldn't help but think about them again and again. She is spot on and I hope her thinking regarding how God is helping me is the reason behind all that.
I am sure Jai would have given anything for his Son being this lucky! I thought and immediately stopped my tapping along with sitting still on my chair.
Why am I suddenly thinking about him and that too when all these years passed? I thought before taking the bottle from my table and started drinking with shaking hands.
Sudhir is not his son! He is mine and only mine! I thought, slamming down the bottle while my breathing raised.
"So, what about the pregnancy she is talking about?" the lawyer asked after setting down all the details.
"What is about that bastard's kid?" Jay asked harshly.
"Don't you dare call him like that! I will leave this office right now." I threatened standing up from the chair.
"Mr.Jay! Please calm yourself down." His layer asked him worriedly and I am sure for the commission he is going to get if this divorce happens.
"I don't want anything to do with that kid." Jay stated while I sat down feeling lost to even shed any tears.
"I want that in legal papers that he will not have anything to do with my baby." I demanded.
"Of course, some money to add for letting me off this kid hook." Jay mumbled sarcastically.
"I already said, I don't want your money." I said, closing my eyes and immediately felt my chair turning around.
"Do you know how happy I was with the news of you being pregnant? I thought I got everything I will ever need in this life. And it turned out..." he stopped rubbing his eyes when I opened my eyes and looked away to stare at the lawyer.
"You don't deserve this baby." That's all I said, because I know that is more than truth and in a moment I felt it in myself that whatever is happening is only good.
"Excuse me?" a very irritated voice made me come out of my thoughts.
"Y...yes?" I asked, shaking my head, feeling emotional and glanced up only to let my jaw drop.
He is... he is a man of course, but he is intimidating. What else can I think with his scowling and irritated face he is showing.
"What can I do for you, Sir?" I asked politely trying to push down the fear.
Hell! He even seem to be very big and who doesn't get scared of such a personality? I thought, shaking my head again.
"Where is Ms.Pallavi?" he asked, folding his arms.
I immediately took the phone and called to her table phone, but she is not lifting. I groaned inside, but placed a composed façade on my face.
"She is not here, Sir." I replied.
"Even at eleven?" he asked frowning.
Who is he to frown at her? I am sure he is not the boss as the help our boss ever made can show him to be completely opposite to the man before me.
Maybe he is some client as Pallavi always said our Boss never steps into any corridor, but gets all details from Mr.Girish.
And also she said she always makes sure the clients reach the right floor of the boss which must be the reason for him asking for her.
What if she gets into trouble for coming late for the first time in her working record with this angry guy complaining to the boss.
"Personal reason!" I mumbled as explanation but he frowned like he can't believe it.
"Her Mom is not feeling well and is at the hospital taking care of her." I added and he turned to look at the elevator from which he came.
"Mr.Girish?" he asked, turning back towards me.
"Along with the boss on the next floor." I replied, struggling with my hands while he stared at me.
"Okay! Escort me there." He ordered and started walking away while I stared at him with complete shock.
However, I did as he asked, knowing well he must be some important client if he is showing this much arrogance. What if the company loses so much by losing him and the boss blames me if I said something stupid.
I mean, I am sure boss will understand as he is or really must be the sweetest person. Still, I will feel guilty if he gets any loses after the help he did even though unintentionally.
We both stood in silence while he kept on checking his watch. For one floor passing, he literally checked the watch ten times.
Maybe the number of times he checked his watch is more than number of seconds it took us to reach the floor.
"Call Mr.Girish!" he ordered yet again and when I opened the Sir's cabin after cabin I saw that it is empty.
Did everyone decide to come plate today? I thought covering my face and paced a little before walking outside to see him standing near the only desk present in the floor opposite the door of a room which seems to be more than half of the floor for sure.
"His daughter went into labor." I uttered the first words that came into my head due to Jhanvi stressing over an important labor coming today which started from night and now she will come into the case from morning.
But did Mr.Girish even have a daughter? That question started passing my head now and I hope this man will never know.
"I can see even your boss is not here." He stated gesturing to the locked door.
"Sir! I am sure it is the best thing anyone will ever do by doing business with my boss." I stated taking a deep breath.
"Why?" he asked, crossing his arms.
"Because when... when he can so much for the feeling who is working for him, then I can't imagine at what lengths he will go to make sure the people he is working are happy. I am not saying he will do extravagant things, but will make sure you are comfortable and will respect your trust too lengths." I replied whatever came into my head.
"Are you his secretary?" he asked, gesturing the desk which is empty.
Now I don't know who even works here then how can I think of some lie to cover up for them? I thought, frowning.
"I am not his secretary!" I mumbled, trying to come up with an idea.
"You are from today." His words brought me out of my thoughts.
"Huh?" I asked not getting his words.
"Congratulations, Ms.Kalpana! You are my secretary from now on." He repeated.
"I am not going to leave this company." I stated frowning and he frowned back.
"Sir?" we both turned to see Mr.Girish walking towards us.
"She is going to be my secretary." This man stated and Mr.Girish immediately nodded.
"I am not leaving this company, Mr.Girish." I said frowning at him.
"He is our boss!" Mr.Girish said in a whisper.
"Oh!" I whispered back stilling and felt like every part of my body went into some rock form.
"Tomorrow onwards her work starts and today she can settle all her work from previous post." His voice started distancing itself from me.
"And refrain yourself from lying about others." He added while I tightened my lips feeling embarrassed.
"You didn't tell me you had a daughter, Mr.Girish?" he actually added that and I turned to see him already closing the door of his cabin.
"Daughter?" Mr.Girish asked, frowning at me while I just stared at the name of our boss which is written as Mr.Manohar.
"Congratulations! What were you talking with him when I was coming here and what is this me having a daughter? I am not even married and never was." Mr.Girish asked making me turn towards him with complete shock.
Now, I don't have the option to even say that I mistook the gender of his children and then say that I mixed up the information of another person here but here he is not even married. Why did Pallavi never gossiped about this? I thought groaning.
"Shut! Shut! Shut!" I continued to chant before rushing towards the elevator and waited for it to move down so that I can get away from this floor once and for all even though I know I have to return here tomorrow.
