They Met
Couldn't help it when we met
I was playing hard to get
But one look and that was it
Now it doesn't matter
"Come on, Al." Matthew urged as he looked out the bus window. "You're gonna miss the bus again."
He scanned the crowd of students, finally seeing him at the door. He had a stack of books in his hand that, when he tripped on the curb, fell to the ground and scattered along the sidewalk.
"You moron." Matthew groaned and got up from his seat. He made his way out of the bus and toward his brother. He started to pick the books up, rolling his eyes at the teen scrambling on the ground.
"I have a test tomorrow and-"
"I told you you can borrow my textbooks any time. Now let's get out of here before the bus-" Matthew was interrupted by the sound of the bus starting up. "Well fuck."
"Well, at least I got my little bro keeping me company this time, right?"
"Yeah." Matthew groaned.
"Let's just see if the kids who can drive can give us a ride." Alfred took Matthew's hand and drug him off to the student parking lot where only one car was still parked. Neither of them knew the white haired boy climbing into the driver's seat or the blonde sitting in the passengers side but they approached the vehicle anyway.
"Yo!" Alfred called out. "Can you offer a couple 'o dudes a ride?"
"Sure!" The white haired boy chirped.
"Bruder..." The other groaned.
"Vhat? Jou need friends, Luddy." The white boy turned back to the twins. "Climb in. I'm Gilbert!"
"Hey." Matthew said softly. He got in the seat directly behind Gilbert and Alfred got in beside him.
"So...vhere do jou guys live?"
"Not far...just-"
Matthew let himself tune out Alfred's directions. He pressed his head against the window and watched the scenery go by.
"Woah! Jou guys live in a fucking mansion!" Gilbert exclaimed when he pulled up their driveway.
Yes. They did live in a mansion. The place was three storeys of empty guest rooms, a spotless kitchen and a massive backyard pool. The stone exterior blended perfectly with the bright garden speckled with pink flowers and stood out against the forest in the background. It was a beautiful house. But as a home it was lacking. He had learned that on his first night there a year ago.
"It's our uncle and aunt's place." Matthew muttered just so he could avoid Alfred boasting about the building's size.
"But Jou live here right?"
"Yeah! It's got the nicest pool. You guys should come over this Saturday for a pool party!"
"Uhh...haha..." Gilbert brought the car to a halt, scratching his neck awkwardly. "I burn up pretty bad so..."
"So what? It's a night party! The pool lights up!"
"Really! Awesome!"
The younger twin sighed, lifting his school bag and a majority of Al's books off the seat between them. "We best be going. Have a safe ride home." He opened the car door, nudging Alfred to do the same. For once he actually listened. Good for him.
"Yeah. Thanks!"
"No problem." The blond brother...Luddy(?) smiled the softest of smiles. He almost looked like...
"Is somezhing wrong?" He asked.
Matthew blinked, realizing that he was staring at the German boy.
"Nope. Sorry eh." He slipped out of the car and started up the driveway, picking up his pace so he and Alfred were walking side by side.
"What are we having for dinner?" He asked, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his brown bomber jacket.
"Uh...dunno...probably something French..."
"Sweet!"
"Yeah...sweet..."
So I've graduated high school. Most of you are all like "yay your free" but I'm heartbroken.
Like, the thing about our class was that it was really tight knit. Most of us had been together since as long as we could remember and were mostly all related by blood too. We were like a family but we're all taking such different paths in life that we probably won't ever see each other again. I'm gonna miss countless meme references in law class and being the one not straight kid in the class that makes all these "it's still straighter than me" jokes. We had safe grad right after graduation. We went bowling and stopped for a timmies break at a Tim Hortons that was sold out of everything because it was eleven at night. Then we went swimming and then went out to my cottage for a rest. We played games like sardine and mantracker and then hung out around the "fire" (just an empty pit because Nova Scotia is under a fire ban atm) and we told stories and each of us admitted who our first kiss was and how many people we had sex with (zero for about half of us) and we reminisced over the friendships that were made and ate cake and I played guitar for a bit. Me and one other girl I've gotten close to hung out on the little deck on the bank overlooking the water. We all bonded. Then we went paint-balling and then had breakfast at the fire hall.
It was the best experience anybody could ask for. If your school has safe grad (a drug/alcohol free party to celebrate graduation) GO ON IT. You will have no regrets.
Anyway. It's off to college for me. Until the next time.
