[17] Promise me
Kelsey's POV
"So this kid is a real killer." Mr. Stilinski asked his son as he looked at the year book with a picture of Matt circled in red, pointing at his name on the side, Matthew Daehler.
When we were leaving the party, apparently Scott saw Matt standing by a car with the Kanima by his side and it's tail curled around Matt's legs. But I don't know, I can't really see Matt being a killer, he's a really nice guy.
"Yeah." Stiles replied.
"No."
"Yes." Stiles said a little louder.
"No."
"Dad, come on, everybody knows that the police look for ways to connect victims to murders, okay? So all you have to do is look through the transcripts and figure out what class they all have in common." Plus there's no evidence that suggests that Matt is the killer, and why would there be.
He's innocent.
"Yeah, except for the fact the rave promotor, Kara, wasn't in Harris class." Stiles's dad told us. "Alright okay, you're right, sorry. Then I guess they dropped the charges against him."
"No. You know what, they're not dropping the charges, but that doesn't prove anything. Scott what do you think, you believe this?" Sheriff asked my brother.
"It's really hard to explain how we know this, but you just got to trust us, we know it's Matt." Scott answered. "What about you, Kelsey?" Sheriff asked me.
"Well, no I don't. But sometimes you don't know what people are capable of doing." It's true though, you'd think when Peter was in a coma, he looked like an innocent victim but he turned out to be a psychotic mass-murder.
Stiles's dad looked at me for a second before his son interrupted. "He took Harris car, okay? Look he knew that if a cop found tire tracks at one of murders, and if enough of the victims were in Harris class then they'd arrest him."
"Alright fine, I'll allow the remote possibility but give me a motive, I mean why would this kid want most of the 2006 swim team and it's coach dead." He has a point. What motive does Matt have?
"Isn't it obvious? Our swim team sucks! They haven't won in like 6 years...okay we don't have a motive yet, I mean come on does Harris?" Stiles let out.
Why is Stiles defending Mr. Harris? I thought he hated him?
Maybe he just wants Matt to get arrested so bad because he has a pure hatred towards him. "What do you want me to do?" Sheriff Stilinski asked.
"We need to look at the evidence." Scott replied. "Yeah, that would be in the station, where I no longer work."
"Trust me, they'll let you in." Stiles told his father. "Trust you?" Sheriff's eyes widened. "Trust...trust Scott and Kelsey?" Stiles said as he pointed at Scott and I.
"Scott I trust, Kelsey I trust even more." Stilinski told us. Aw, that's so nice. He trust me more than his own son and Scott ahah.
Oh yeah, I'm flawless!
***
"It's two in the morning." The lady behind the desk said to Mr. Stilinski. Hey, I think that's the lady who used to help Stiles with his maths homework, Tara I think her name is. "Believe me I wouldn't be here if it wasn't extremely important." I hear Sheriff reply.
"We look at the hospital stuff first, okay?" Stiles said, bringing my attention to him. "Why?" I asked.
"Because all the murders were committed by Jackson, except for one, remember?" Oh right.
"The pregnant girl, Jessica?" Scott answered. "Since Matt had to kill her himself, somebody from the hospital had to seen of him."
"Thank you. Boys, and girl." Sheriff called. "I don't know guys, I still can't see him killing anyone." I told them before following Mr. Stilinski into his office.
After 10 minutes of looking through the surveillance footage of the night Jessica, the pregnant lady was murdered. We found no Matt, nothing. Which is good, I think? Matt doesn't struck me as an evil killer sort of guy.
"I don't know guys, I mean look at this. There is a six car pileup that night." Sheriff began as we all crowded around the computer. "The hospital was jammed." Mr. Stilinski said with a sigh. I feel sorry for Jessica's new-born baby girl, she'll never grow up to see her parents.
It's kind of like Jackson; his parents were also killed the night he was born. It must be hard for him.
"Alright, just keep going. Look he has to have passed one of the cameras to get to Jessica okay. He's got to be on the footage somewhere." Stiles told his dad.
"Wait, hold on. Stop, did you see that? Go back."
"That's him! That's Matt." Stiles let out. What? How is that Matt, you can't even see his face? "All I see is the back of someone's head." Sheriff told Stiles. "That's what I was gonna say." I tell Mr. Stilinski, earning glares from Stiles an Scotty.
This is so boring, I want to go home, but I have no ride. "Matt's head, yeah. I sit behind him in history...he has a very distinct cranium." Oh my god Stiles.
"Are you crazy?" Sheriff let out.
"Alright fine then. Look at his jacket, how many people do you know that wear black leather jackets?" Hmm let's see, how many people...I do, Derek does, Erica, Boyd, Isaac, Jackson, Greenberg, Matt, Apparently Mr. Harris now because he wore one at the rave, Allison I think, Mr. Argent too, and maybe Lydia?
"Millions, literally." Yup, that's what I was thinking. "Can we scroll forward? There's got to be a shot of him coming at one of the cameras?" Scott questioned.
"Right there! Stop stop, see. There he is again." Stiles said as he pointed at the same guy who's back of the head appeared again.
"You mean there's the back of his head again."
"Alright look, he's talking to someone." Stiles told us. Looking closer at the computer scene, I start to notice the person Stiles calls 'Matt', is talking to one of the nurses. She actually looks familiar...wait.
"That's mom."
***
It didn't take long before Scott put mom on speaker phone. She's the only person who saw the guys face. I just hope it's not Matt. "Scott, do you know how many people I deal with in a day?"
"This ones sixteen, he's got dark hair, looks like a normal teenager." Scott described. "Yeah, he looks evil" Stiles spoke.
Rolling my eyes and Stiles, I decide to give mom a little more detail. "Okay mom, he's got green-hazel eyes, nice smile. Oh, he sometimes wears a camera round his neck and he has really soft hands..." I said, getting weird looks from everyone, including Mr. Stilinski. "What?"
"Guys, I already talked to the police about this." Mom told us. "Mom, I'm just going to send a picture to you..." Scott said as he took a snap of Matt's picture from the year book.
"Did you get it?" I asked mom.
"Yeah.." Mom replied.
"Recognize him? Do you remember him?" Scott asked. "Yeah I did, I mean I remember I stopped him because he was getting mud in the hall." Oh great, it was Matt. Not the answer I wanted to hear mom say.
"Scott, Kelsey, what's going on?" Mom asked. "It's nothing mom, I'll explain later, I gotta go." Scott said to mom before hanging up.
"We've got shoe prints alongside the tire tracks at the trailer sight." Sheriff said immediately. I still don't understand, why would Matt kill people? He's just an innocent teenager, surely they've got this wrong or Matt's being set up.
"And if they match they have to put Matt the scene of the three murders. The trailer, the hospital and the rave." Stiles said, almost too excitedly.
"Actually four. The credit card from oil change were signed at Matt by the garage, where the mechanic was killed." Sheriff told us.
"When?"
"A couple of hours before you got there." This isn't good at all. "Okay dad, if one's an incidence and twos a coincidence, then threes a patten. Then what's four?" Stiles asked his dad.
"Fours enough for a warrant. Scott, call your mom back and see how quick she can get here. If I can get an official id, I can get a search warrant." Mr. Stilinski started.
"I need to get some fresh air." I tell them as I waked towards the door. "While you're there Kelsey, go to the front desk, tell them to let your mom in when she gets here." Sheriff told me before I left.
I can't believe Matt actually might be the killer. The kanima's master. How and why, I don't understand. But I still can't see Matt doing any of it. I just wish things would go back to normal and that there will be no more drama. "Hey uh, we're expecting some- uh, okay then." I was about to say but then I notice that the lady has gone. Well that's weird...she couldn't have finished her shift already, could she? Hmm, maybe she popped to the lady's room. I'll just go outside for a few minutes and maybe when I return, she'll be back.
Walking towards the exit, I hear movement behind me, but before I could check to see who it was. A hand covered my mouth and I was being pulled into a room. I swear if Stiles or Scott are playing games with me again, I'm not finding it funny.
The person takes away their hand, shutting the door behind them as we fully entered the room. Turing my head towards the person, I notice it's Matt. What's he doing here? "Do you think I killed those people?" He asked seriously as he sat down in front of me holding a gun in his hand. Why is he holding a gun? I know he wouldn't hurt me.
I don't know if Matt killed those people but I just can't see him being the evil type of guy. "Well, Scott said you're controlling Jackson? But I don't understand, why would you kill them? You're not a bad person." I smile lightly. He can't be here. He could get arrested or something.
"I don't want to hurt you, Kelsey. You know how I feel about you, I would never hurt you." He begins. Hurt me? Why is he so nervous? "A lot has happened that I can't explain...and If something happens to me...could you do something for me?" He asks.
"Sure, anything."
"I want you to remember me. Remember me as a...as a good person, as a friend. Remember that I love you and I'll always be here for you." What? Why is he saying this? Has something bad happened? Is he in trouble? And did he just say he loves me?
Something's not right. "Matt what's wrong? You're scaring me." I tell him.
"Just promise you'll remember me."
"I promise." I say before being pulled into a heartfelt hug. I hope Matt's okay. I don't want him to get hurt. I feel Matt's arms pull me closer as I lightly kiss his cheek. Maybe Sheriff Stilinski will drop the case for Matt. He can't go to jail this young, he has his whole life ahead of him.
"Do as I say, okay?" He tells me as he pulls away.
"Okay." I reply before standing up and walking towards the door.
I walk out the room, feeling Matt's gun pressed against my back. I know he won't hurt me, but I really don't like this. As we head towards Sheriff Stilinski's office, I notice the lady behind the desk laying on the floor, covered in her own blood.
She's covered in what looks like claw marks, and I know that's probably Jackson who done that, because Matt told him to. But why? He's not like that. Why would he kill innocent people.
I slowly turn the door knob and slide the door open to see Stiles, Scott and Sheriff's eyes locked on me and Matt.
Matt sits down on the chair, while I sit down beside him on the floor. "Matt...It's matt right?" Stiles's dad begins as Matt nods his head. "Now whatever's going on, I guarantee there's a solution that doesn't invole a gun."
"You know, it's funny you say that, because I don't think you're aware of just how right you are." Matt replies. "I know you don't want to hurt people." Stilinski says, trying to calm down Matt.
"Actually, I want to hurt a lot of people. You three weren't on my list but I can be persuaded." Matt starts. He said three, so I guess I'm the only one he trusts in this room to keep alive. "And one way is to try dialling somebody on your cellphone like McCall is doing." Matt says, looking towards Scott who had his hand in his pocket. Oh Scott, don't make this worse than it already is.
"That could get someone hurt. Everyone, now!" Matt shouts, making everyone put their phones on the table, even me.
I don't like this angry Matt. I don't like how it's scarring me. He needs to calm down. And I think I'm the only one who can do that. But how?
____________________________________________________________
Sooooo, what do y'all think?
Do you think Kelsey should trust Matt? Can she calm him down? How do you think she'll react when she sees the evil side of Matt? Do you think she'll stick by him and try to help?
And do you think Matt will hurt Kelsey?
I'm sorry it took so long to write...I have so many plans for the next chapters to come, I hope you'll like them.
