After that day Sam came to see me more and we actually became friends. It feels good to have a friend again.

On this particular day, James gave me an hour and half break. That surprised me. He said, "it's to encourage you. You're doing well and I don't want you to overwork yourself."

"Thanks James."

"No problem. I see you're friends with Sam Bolton. He's a good boy. And it's nice to see you no longer spend all your time alone."

That sounded really sweet. James has been like a big brother to me these past days.

Anyway, right now I'm waiting for Sam. He said he's taking me to the music building.

"Hey. Sorry I'm late", he says, breathless.

"No problem. Rest a while then we can go."

"Nah. Let's go now. I'm fine."

James comes in, "Sam can I talk to you for a second?"

"Sure. Alex, I'll meet you in the garden."

"OK."

Sam
As soon as Alex is out of earshot I turn to James.

"Sup James."

"Alexis is up. She's doing incredibly well. I believe she'll make it big one day. There's this sadness around her. I've never seen her smile."

I sigh, "I've noticed it too."

"I see two of you are becoming very close. Please try to make her smile. I think there's something bothering her. It's her story to tell but it's our duty to help her."

I smile. There goes our James, always trying to be the big brother.

"Sure man. I gotta go. Before she thinks I died.

"OK Sam. Bye."

I quickly go to the garden to see Alex with her ear buds on. She always has them on. I think it's time for her to hear the beauty outside those things so I remove them.

Alexis
"The hell Sam?!"

"Whoa. Chill. You just always have these on. I'm doing you a favour."

I calm down. He goes on, "look, I understand it's not in my place to say this but I'll say it anyway."

Where is all this coming from? I rub my temples.

He continues, "you're really nice but you're always sad. I want to help you."

I can see the sincerity in his eyes. Maybe this is what I need. My therapist in Canada couldn't do much anyway.

"OK", I say.

"Good. We'll start at the music studio."

"What does the studio have to do with this?"

"That's where you'll learn to have fun."

Fun. When last did I even use that word? Maybe this is really what I need.

"OK then."

Sam
Wow. Convincing Alex wasn't too hard. Praise be. Soon, we're at the studio. I had already told my friends that I'll be bringing someone. I want her to associate with people. Maybe it'll help her.

"Ready Alex?"

"Ready."

I push open the door and we enter.
