Prologue ~ It all started with a BIG-BANG
It was a moonless night, as the boat speed through the dark waters of the Ganges surrounded by the illustrious forest of Sundari trees.
They were off the radar of any possible police and also away from the check post. The captain seemed quite assured of their safe keeping, in these crocodile infested waters of Bengal. He had bribed some higher ups to be able to cross the borders smoothly without much difficulty.
The boat was heading towards the basement of a notorious terrorist organisations who had recently developed in the mysterious delta forest of Bengal as its hideout and playground. Filled in the boat were different kinds of advanced gadgets, imported in from different parts of the world, to be handed to this company to be used in their nefarious plans.
The fireflies flew, buzzing In harmony and the beetles mimicked the crocket dishes and bowls striking the surface of the other in a continuous rhythmic time. The stillness and silence never prevailed in the wild , and today was no different from the others.
Amongst the croaking of frogs and the soft snores of the smuggling racket, Agent Max also known as Aprajita among the racket, tiptoed to the cabin of the captain.
The room was almost empty, with only two cupboards and a table and a chair and a makeshift single bed. His dirtied clothes from days lay abandoned at one corner of the room.
Max looked through the room, examining everything . This room was full of highly advanced gadgets, most of them unused and unknown to human technology.
But gadgets wasn’t what she was looking for. She needed the address to the base and details of their plan.
This smuggling racket through run by many was controlled by Sedro. Sedro, not literally a real name but a code. A man connected with many but most importantly with the most mysterious figure of the underworld, KOKA. Apparently this Koka person who was associated with a terrorist organisation has been gathering gadgets for some unknown project. She needed to know who Koka was and what the weapons were for.
Max had been disguised as Aprajita and working undercover here to gather Intel about this group.
She looked through the drawers while looking for a file when she saw a box. Taking the box in her hand she opened it. It was a stopwatch, gold plated with intricate carvings on it. Laying in the cushioned box it looked so magnificent. Max couldn’t resisted the allure of the object and grabbed it before stuffing it into her pocket.
She continued looking, yet she found nothing.
Weird.
She knew for sure that Sedro had been keeping all this documents in the rotten room of his, the one his called his den, his cabin.
Max tiptoed out, heading towards her room. The consignment would reach the coast in few hours and then she could sneak in a call to chief and let her know about the nothingness.
She felt a cold metal touch the back of her head making her freeze at her place.
“Well..well… isn’t it surprising ? Aprajita of sweet smiles had been the snitch all along.”, the cold gruff voice of Sedro rang in her ears, making her blood go cold with dread.
Max turned about, slowly, facing Sedro and his companions leering at her with that ever wicked smile of theirs.
“So you are the betrayer, dear, as it would appear. Now may I know what were you doing in my cabin ?”, He asked.
“I…I…”, she stuttered nervous, she didn’t know what to do or what to say. She was never good with words or a quick thinker or even ration, if she did be honest. Now she was at the dead end and her death seemed closer than ever.
“Don’t tell me you were cleaning my room at the end of night, were you ?”, he asked, walking towards her slowly. His steps were calculated and dangerous.
“Now tell me, who are you helping? Is it Pedro or some other group ? Answer me now or bear the brunt of my anger.”, he growled in a low voice trying to look intimidating but to her he looked comical.
No, Max wasn’t scared, at least not of Sedro. Max had been a part of the agency since a tender age of 16 and her 9 years of service had made her face far more dangerous men, ferocious and cruel. Sedro could not even shade a light on their steps. Yet he was the one who caught her. Never had she been discovered before and that’s what left her baffled.
How can Sedro, with his pea sized brain and rotten teeth, discover her cover. Maybe she after being around these buffoons for 3 long months was losing her touch and stealth or efficiency.
“Or maybe if you speak now, I may forgive you and make you my bed mate. I always found you beautiful, you know.”, he said coming dangerously close to her face.
Max spat in his eyes, without flinching, before she smirked defiantly.
“You, bitch! You would pay for this insolence !”, he screamed, as he wiped his face and raised his gun aiming her square in her forehead.
Maybe this is how she dies, Max wondered. At the hands of the great idiot Sedro, what a tragedy.
As Sedro was about to pull the trigger and end her already miserable life, Max felt a push.
Agent Roxy, her partner who had also been assigned at this mission along with her, dashed through the deck, and had pushed her overboard, before diving in herself. Sedro was left stunned.
As Max felt her back hit the bone freezing cold waters of Ganga, she heard Sedro shout orders to catch them alive.
Fool.
Max would have tried to swim afloat if not for the bullets showering from above.
Roxy swam towards her, before grabbing her hand and swimming in the opposite direction, under the boat.
As the swam dodging the bullets, Max felt hope surge back into her body, or was it adrenaline. Anyways, as long as they aren’t eaten by crocodiles or the royal beast of Bengal, they were safe. They could swim ashore, she hoped.
But alas! Misfortune had yet again struck the two diligent officers when they got caught in a whirlpool caused by the turbulent waves of the Ganges. Roxy had tried to drag her out of the whirlpool and also got pulled inside . Now they were stuck with no way out, waiting for their death.
With her head spinning, as she began to lose her consciousness, she saw the eye of the whirlpool. Well, at least in death she may know peace, she hoped as she embraced death like an old friend.
