Chapter 2
The ride didn't last as long as I thought it would. David stopped the bike by the cliff. I would be lying if I said I hadn't gotten afraid when he took the bike off the road and onto the grass that ran between Santa Carla's boardwalk and the cliff. But I think he had enjoyed the fact that when I had gotten afraid I had tightened my grip on him. Once the bike had stopped, I got off. David smiled up at me as I found my footing on solid ground again.
"See it wasn't that bad (Y/N)." He teased. I shot him a glare that only made him smile.
"Yeah says you." I was standing next to the bike, hoping I wouldn't fall over once the adrenaline wore off. I could see that David knew that and had a hand ready should I fall over. I watched as he put the kickstand down and let the bike rest.
"Yeah. Says me." He chuckled. David got off the bike and gently put a hand on my arm to keep me steady as we moved away from the bike. "Besides....." We started heading in the direction of the cliff. "You rode on a motorcycle!" He hollered and started clapping. I laughed at his antics and shook my head.
"Really David?" I stumbled slightly once he stopped clapping, causing David's hand to shoot out and grab my arm. His grip was tight to keep me from falling. We both started laughing again once I was steady on my feet. "This isn't the greatest strip of land to be walking on." I joked as we got closer to the cliff edge. I was acutely aware that David's hand was tight on my elbow and that if he had wanted to, he could throw me over the edge of the cliff. But I had already put my faith in this man once, I might as well do it again.
"No it isn't." David had a slightly more serious tone to his voice as he became more careful about where we stepped. Once we were both sure that we could walk without trouble, David let go of my arm. "What do you think?" He gestured to the surrounding area before shoving his hands in his coat pockets.
"I think it's beautiful." I copied him and put my hands in my jeans pockets. Neither of us were really looking where we were going but I could tell David had a good idea of how far we were away from the cliff. "Thank you for bringing me here." David smiled at me again and nodded.
"So how different is this from what you thought I was going to do?" He chuckled. I smiled and hung my head.
"Vastly different." I admitted. "I admit I thought it was going to be something completely diff...AAHHH!" My foot hit the edge of the cliff and before I could even acknowledge what was happening, David's hands were around my waist and pulling me back before I could fall over the edge. He was holding me close and we were both breathing heavily. I was holding onto his arms with all my strength and the adrenaline was pumping through me again. I couldn't help but notice just how blue his eyes were or just how much stubble he had. All things I figured I wouldn't notice if I wasn't standing this close to him.
The sound of a car on the road behind us made us jump apart and quickly back away from the edge of the cliff. David's grip on me loosened as I moved away from him. I rubbed my neck as I turned away from David to look out at the beach that was just past the cliff. The sound of a lighter being lit caused me to watch David out of the corner of my eye. He had moved over by the cliff again and sat down on the edge. His eyes watched my every move as I slowly made my way over to him. I stood behind him, being extra careful not to slip again. David looked up at me and patted the patch of grass next to him. I bit my lip and gently shook my head.
"Sorry. I don't really wanna nearly fall over and die again." I said. David nodded and blew the smoke away from my direction.
"Would it help if I put my jacket down?" David started to take off his jacket. I shook my head and held up my hand.
"No. It's fine." David stopped with the jacket half way down his arms. He looked at me expectantly. "It's fine David. I'm serious." David shrugged the jacket off and held it up to me.
"But you're cold right?" He asked with a knowing smirk. Just then the wind blew past and I shivered. Begrudgingly I took his jacket and shrugged it on. I hugged it close to me and gently knelt down next to him but still behind him. David leaned into me slightly and winked. "I'm not going to lie, this is not how I expected this to go." His expression softened as he smiled down at me.
"How did you expect this night to go?" I asked as I leaned into him. David's cheeks tinted pink as he turned back to look out over the beach.
"I expected to bring you here and just sit here and enjoy the view." David said. He looked over at me again. "And then maybe take you back to the boardwalk for a late night ferris wheel ride." I watched as his eyes softened even more and it was my turn to blush. "Then maybe we would go our separate ways with the promise to meet back at the video store tomorrow." My blush deepened and I couldn't look David in the eye. When I finally looked up at him, I could see the hope in his eyes. "But like I said, it didn't go the way that I had planned." I started to laugh. David's eyebrows knit together.
"David, just because I nearly slipped off the cliff doesn't mean that the entire night has been blown." I laughed out. David let out a breathy chuckle and his head fell down on my shoulder. I gently put my hand on his back and rubbed circles on his shoulder. "It's okay David. The night isn't over yet. We can still hang out here for little while and head back to the boardwalk for the ferris wheel." David's arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me closer as he started to chuckle. "Or we can do that tomorrow night." David raised his head and gently smiled at me. "I don't really care what we do."
"Are you sure?" He asked. I nodded as I leaned my head against his. We stayed like that for a while before I moved so I was sitting next to David rather than behind him. David's arm moved to drape itself over my shoulder. I rested my head against his and looked out at the beach with David. We watched as the stars came out and I smiled as David started to point out the different constellations.
"It all looks so beautiful." I sighed as I gazed out at the stars. I felt David's chest move as he let out a sigh.
"Yeah you do." David whispered. It wasn't meant to be too loud but considering how close we were to each other, I heard him perfectly. I tilted my head back to look at him and David smiled down at me.
"You mean that?" I asked. David nodded before leaning down and gently kissing me on the forehead.
"Of course I do." I could feel his lips move and I closed my eyes in content. Then I nearly fell over as David stood up. "Are you ready for the next part of our night?" I looked up as David offered me his hand. I took it and he gently pulled me up.
"Where are we headed?" David winked at me before walking away, leaving me to follow him back to his bike.
