Chapter 6

The time is 9:15 am. Nick walked into the precinct offices with a tray of coffee in his hands. One was a medium cappuccino with skim milk, the other two were medium cappuccinos, foamed with a drop of sugar. Nick walked over to Freddie's desk, in front of it was a white board. There were three pictures on there, one was Wilfred Warner. The other two were a male lion and a male zebra. Nick waved at Freddie as he approached him.

"Ah hey Nick! Oh, you got me coffee too?" He smirked as he grabbed the coffee and took a sip.

"Yeah, the least I could do for last night." Nick smirked back at Freddie. Nick sat on Freddie's desk whilst Freddie sat down at his seat.

"Oh no problem. What did you guys do? You guys talked about the marathon tonight?" Freddie asked.

"Uhh yes. We're doing a rom-com marathon because I like the name." Nick chuckled.

Freddie set his coffee down on his desk. "Alright, what else did you do?" Freddie caught on with Nick's reserved behaviour.

Nick sighed, then smiled. "Okay, I... told Judy."

Freddie raised his eyebrows. "Wow! Didn't think you had the guts. What did she say?"

"She took it as a shocker. Sad truth is, I didn't want to press so I went to bed after. She didn't have a response then so I might as well wait-right?" Nick confirmed sheepishly through his teeth. "I left early this morning, to give her some time by herself."

Freddie rubbed his temple with his fingers. "Nick, you can't talk to her about it here-this is work!" He smacked his shoulder.

"Hey! Don't worry, I'm not gonna! I don't even plan on talking about it unless she wants to!" Nick rubbed his shoulder. "I just told her because she needs to know! We don't have to be mates! I only wanted her to know this-as my friend!" Nick scolded Freddie.

Freddie raised his paws in the air in defence. "Okay! If you say so."

"Just trust me. We'll talk when she wants to-"

"Nick!" He heard in the distance. He turned around to see a bunny running at him.

Freddie took a sip of his coffee. "Sounds like someone wants to talk." He muttered.

"What! I'm not ready-and especially not here!" Nick panicked, he grabbed the tray and stood up firmly. He drank all of his coffee nervously, slamming it all down in one sip. "Uh-hey Carrots! Here's your coffee!" Nick handed her the coffee and took a few steps back.

Judy stared at the white board noticing what was on it. "New case?" She asked, looking at Freddie.

"Yup, robbery on Sahara Square." Freddie nodded. "Got a lead, but need you guys to help me pull a search."

"Oh great, Nick and I will help you with that-AFTER, we chat!" Judy emphasized and grabbed Nick's paw, dragging him to their cubicle.

"Hey-ow ow OW! What's wrong-"

Nick's whining was cut off as Judy shouted in a low voice, "what's wrong? What's wrong! Are you kidding me with this Nick?" She shook her head.

Nick sighed. "Okay, you want to talk now. I'm... all ears." Nick smirked nervously.

Judy blushed at the thought of having this conversation. She felt awkward about it, but also liked the thought of talking to Nick. Nick smiled at Judy greatly, noticing her blush.

"Wh-what?" She asked angrily.

"Oh sorry, I've never seen you blush before-it's adorable." He chuckled slightly.

Judy's ears dropped. She grabbed one and started to rub her paws through it nervously.

"Oh-oh. I-uh... want to talk about last night." She muttered nervously.

"Yeah, figured you might." Nick sighed once more. "We don't have to do anything about this. I told you because you need to know, that's all. I didn't expect anything-"

Judy grabbed Nick's paw and held it with both of her paws. "Nick, I want to say I... love you too..." She said quietly.

Nick froze up. He never said love, he should've said that to her. "You... you what?" Nick smiled.

"Nick, I like you-a lot! I-I've liked you since the missing mammals case, you were my best friend. I-I'm sorry about last night, I didn't give you a response because I was just so surprised! I-I wanted to tell you but I was ju-just so afraid and nervous that you'd not-"

Judy's lips were silenced by Nick's. His muzzle was pressed against her lips so strongly, she got pushed back a bit. Judy needed to grab on something, she chose Nick's tie. She gripped it fiercely as Nick continued their kiss. Nick pulled away with a huge smile.

"Judy... I love you too..." He winked at her.

Judy's heart melted as she heard Nick utter those words. "Oh Nick." She smiled as she hugged him.

"So, what does this mean?" Nick asked as she pulled away. "Do you want to do this, become mates?" Nick asked.

Nick frowned, realizing so much at the time. "Inter-species relationships never last well. It'd be hard on one mammal over the other. Also, I don't want to put you through this type of... shame." Nick rubbed the back of his head.

"Nick you make it sound like a inter-species relationship is insane." Judy frowned.

Nick noticed Judy's reaction. "Oh no! I don't mean it is-I just don't want to put you through it, Judy, are you sure you want-"

"Have an inter-species relationship? Of course I do Nick." She smirked. "Cause I appreciate what you and I think of each other, not what everyone else thinks."

"So, Judy Hopps, you want to be my mate?" Nick's smirk made Judy blush.

"Yes Nick. I'd love to be your mate." Judy smiled.

"Aww, that's adorable." Freddie commented as he poked his head above their cubicle.

Judy blushed brightly as Nick chuckled. "Hey, beat it. Having a moment here."

"Oh I'm sorry. But we've got a case to crack so..." Freddie gestured back to the board.

"Oh-oh right. Sorry Fred. Um we'll be right there." Judy smiled. Freddie nodded and left the two alone.

Nick snickered. "Wow, when you're embarrassed you're too adorable." He puts his arm around her.

"Yeah okay. Remember Chief Bogo doesn't want any relationships within the precinct. He says it's unprofessional, so Nick, don't do anything like this at work." Judy scolded him and elbowed his stomach.

"Ow! Whiskers, you think that the Chief honestly cares? He doesn't care about recruits, he won't mind a little romance." Nick said slyly.

Nick moved forward and pecked Judy's cheek, causing her to blush. "Nick! I mean it!"

"Okay! Fine by me. Whatever you want Juds, I'll listen." Nick smiled.

Judy smirked. "Good. Now let's work on that case." She and Nick walked out of their cubicle and walked back to Freddie.

"Alright Fred, fill me in." Judy smiled, taking a long sip of her coffee.

Freddie turned around in his chair to face Nick and Judy. "Marty's Mart was robbed Wednesday at 9:48 pm. We have one masked robber on detail, but that's all the surveillance cameras caught. We asked Marty some questions and all that came up was this tiger, Wilfred Warner, who had some grievances against Marty." Freddie pointed at the picture of Wilfred and Marty on the white board.

"Do we have a lead on Wilfred?" Judy asked as she looked at the files.

"We do. Nick ran a background check on him, he works at Betty's Bites-"

"The fast food store within Marty's Mart?" Judy asked, taking another long sip of her coffee.

"Uh huh. He was angry at Marty for firing him. Marty said he wasn't on time, and was sick of how Wilfred demanded to make more. Wilfred stormed out of there declaring he was going to get his money one way or another." Freddie replied.

"Who's the third mammal?" Nick pointed at the picture of a male lion.

"That is who I interrogated the other day. His name is Leon Reiner, he was brought in because he witnessed a car driving out of the parking lot of Marty's Mart at 10:03 pm on Wednesday. He didn't catch the plate but he could make out it was a figure of a tiger in a mask in the car." Freddie informed them.

"So that's 15 minutes Wilfred spent in there. That's a lot of cash." Judy chuckled. "What's the problem?" Judy rolled her tongue around in her cheek.

"Problem is, we have no real solid evidence against Wilfred-other than motive. We need to pull a search." Freddie commented. "Other officers are busy, plus I just prefer working with you guys." Freddie smirked.

"We got a location of Wilfred's whereabouts?" Judy took a sip of her coffee, realizing it was empty she frowned.

"We indeed do." Nick stood up and nodded at Freddie. "14th Oakwood Ave, we got a street camera on him, he's still there. We got a warrant ready." Freddie continued.

"Alright, let's bust this perp." Judy smiled.

The three of them grabbed their tranquilizers and cuffs. They went into Freddie's cop car and drove over to Oakwood Ave. Nick and Judy sat at the back of the car, smiling at each other and holding each others paws. Freddie looked in the rear view mirror and rolled his eyes.

"Alright, play it safe Carrots." Nick advised.

"Nick, I'll be fine. It's you I'm worried about." Judy muttered.

"Excuse me? I can handle myself." Nick smirked confidently. "You should be careful-"

"Oh my gosh!" Freddie groaned. "Don't make me regret playing matchmaker!" Freddie shouted.

"What?" Judy tilted her head.

"Last night, me and Nick were talking about you. Your relationship." Freddie brushed over quickly.

"Oh! Well, guess we have you to thank!" Judy smirked.

The car stopped, they arrived at Wilfred's house. "Yeah yeah. Let's just take care of this perp." Freddie groaned once more as they got out the car, and walked up to the front door.

Judy knocked on the door. "Mr. Warner? This is ZPD, we have a warrant to investigate!" Judy shouted.

"Oh-uh wait a minute-" Wilfred's reply was cut off by a loud crashing sound.

"Mr. Warner?" Freddie curiously asked.

"D-don't come in!" He shouted.

All three of them looked at each other and nodded. They pulled out their tranquilizers and assumed positions for a raid. Freddie kicked down the door and they all rushed the house.
