Chapter 42: Kingdom Come
"So this is where we divide and conquer right?" Aria questions.
"Yes, that building over there is where you want to go." Morro points out a large building in the kingdom "There you will find the records of the deceased."
"How will we get in?" Lloyd asks.
"Bancha was in contact with someone who left the backdoor open for you," Morro replies. "The ninja succeeded in dropping in after us as well, so he will help me get rid of them while I go for the sword."
"We'll meet back up in Ninjago then," Lloyd says.
"I will see you there," Morro responds before making his way to his destination.
Lloyd and Aria head to the back end of the large building Morro pointed out for them. There, they opened the gate and headed into the back entrance. The building was dark and Aria lit a fire in her palm as Lloyd quietly close the door behind them.
"This place is huge," Aria says as she takes a few steps into the building.
"It is the records of the deceased," Lloyd walks up and stands beside her "Morro said Deltorian's were in their own section, we just have to find that."
"Yeah... about that." Aria holds her hand up to light the door next to them.
The door was black with the title Del above it. Lloyd walked up and opened the door, revealing a library full of records. There were at least 15 rows.
"That's.. a lot of people." Lloyd says in shock.
"The book did say I was a tyrant who put a lot of people to death, not to mention the lives lost in the war." Aria comments.
"I know but, jesus." Lloyd says as he walks into the room.
Aria follows after him and the room lit up with purple torches around it.
"It's just like the temple," Aria points out. "Why does everything have to be purple just cause it's my elemental power?"
"Let's just find the ones we came for," Lloyd sighs.
Aria put out the fire in her palm before they begun looking through all the records. None of the names standing out to them. Aria walked all the way to the first row and skimmed through the books.
"Aha!" Aria grabbed the second book of the collection, "found my mother Lloyd."
"Nice," Lloyd replies as he continues looking through the books.
Aria's eyes traveled to the first book with her father's name on it, Svern Lord. She reached up and grabbed it, the book sparked and Aria dropped it.
"Ow," Aria held her hand in pain.
The book glowed purple before rising up and setting itself back in its place.
"What's wrong?!" Lloyd ran over to her.
"My father's book," Aria says sadly "It won't let me grab it."
"It let you grab your mother's though?" Lloyd questions.
"Yeah," Aria replies confused.
"Hm," Lloyd looks up at it.
"Let's just leave it," Aria sighs.
Lloyd pats her head before returning to his search. Aria continued walking down the isles until something caught her eye, it was all the names of her white knights, their books specifically were glowing green. Aria reached up and ran her finger along them with a sad look in her eye.
Aria scanned along the books, passing Lloyd, until she reached the end. Confused, she walked back to the row Lloyd stood in.
"I didn't see a book on us," Aria says.
"Probably because we're alive," Lloyd replies "our records would be in the hall where they write the destiny's of everyone still alive."
"...we should get them." Aria mutters.
"We can't," Lloyd stops what he's doing and turns to her "that place is heavily guarded."
"But, we can't let them write our Destiny," Aria says "what if they make us loose."
"Then we'll do everything in our power to ensure we don't," Lloyd replies.
-
The ninja and Fenwick walk into the library, where the monks are writing on scrolls.
"Wow, it's the ninja."
"I know you're familiar with a few of the realms." Fenwick says "Cloud Kingdom is just one more of the Sixteen Realms that exist parallel to Ninjago."
"Sixteen Realms?" Kai questions.
"In this realm, we strive for greater understanding and let go of distractions." Fenwick explains "There is no television, no video games—"
"No video games?" Jay crosses his arms "Hmmph. Not impressed."
Zane, in a pirate accent, leans over someone's shoulder "It appears all any lad does here be writing."
"That is because here, our words matter." Fenwick says "You see, in Cloud Kingdom, we are the Writers of Destiny. It was here that it was decided that Reika should be the Green Ninja. And just now, that Zane should find his voice again."
Zane's voice changed into a normal accent "I sense my vocal pattern has returned without any repairs."
"Ugh! He doesn't talk like a pirate anymore." Jay complains.
"How'd that happen?" Cole asks
"It was written." Fenwick smiles.
"Hey, guys, he's writing about Dareth!" Jay accidentally spills ink on the scroll.
"Oh, poor Dareth!" the Monk says upsettingly and Jay nervously laughs.
Kai turns to Fenwick "If you know what's going to happen next, then you know how important it is for us to get the Sword of Sanctuary."
"Yes, and I know you made a promise to save your sister Reika." Fenwick sighs "Sadly, we cannot ensure promises, because we aren't allowed to choose sides." he leans in and whispers "And no one else will tell you this, but we had intended for Morro to stay in the Cursed Realm."
"What do you mean intended?" Cole asks
"He was never supposed to escape, he somehow defied destiny. The ghost of Kaname was the only one who we knew was able to escape." Fenwick tells them
"Who?" Kai questions "There is no ghost named Kaname with Morro."
"You misunderstand, they are not working together." Fenwick says "They are enemies- wait you did not know that?"
"No," Jay shakes his head looking confused "We have literally never heard of that name."
"Oh dear," Fenwick shakes his head as the ninja look at each other looking concerned.
"Who is this ghost?" Zane questions.
"You've all witnessed or at least aware of the Del tragedy correct?" Fenwick asks.
"Yeah," the ninja reply.
"The Overlord's daughter Aria was the ruler in the past and the present," Fenwick gestors to a book in a locked box that was glowing purple "that there, are her records."
"So the curse was real?" Kai asks looking concerned "The snakes legend of the twin terrors, the Lloyd and Aria we know, were the ones in the past like we assumed."
"That is correct," Fenwick replies.
"Why is her records locked?" Jay questions "Aren't you like the writers of Destiny?"
"We are unable to alter the destiny of Aria Lord and Lloyd Garmadon," Fenwick sighs "I'm afraid when they defied destiny and refused to die in the past, their records became ones of the dead. The two were reborn in the present, with their destiny's already written."
"My intuition was right then," Zane says "her father was trying to avoid her destiny from happening, whatever it is."
"What I can tell you is that the tyrant Aria Lord has yet to reach her true potential," Fenwick looks at all of them "She has lost her mind as a result of watching her father die. As of right now she may not be considered a threat. Once she recovers the memories of her past, I'm afraid of the consequences."
"Alright well, what can you tell us about now?" Kai asks "The ghost Kaname?"
"Yes, that's where I was going." Fenwick answers "In the past, Aria Lord had an elite group of knights called the White Knights who were made as a result of her father's experiments on humanity. The most powerful and commander of her knights is Kaname. However, he was a traitor and was the very person who beheaded his princess with the rebel army."
The ninja gasped.
"Yes, and he is the one who wants to release the Cursed one." Fenwick says "You are all playing a game of tag, they are trying to stop him, and you are trying to stop them. Whoever gets the realm crystal first is out of our hands. Ever since the ghosts broke free, things have been happening outside of our control. To be honest, we don't know how this will end."
"Then quit talking and give us the sword." Kai demands "We'll find the tomb and stop Morro."
"Look, we wanted to give it to you, but first, the Master Writer wants to see you." Fenwick says.
"Fine," Kai agrees with a sigh "then show us to this Master Writer."
-
"I give up," Lloyd says "none of these names are sticking out to me. I can't find my mother from the past."
"I'm sorry Lloyd," Aria hugs him.
"I just wish I remembered her name," Lloyd sighs in frustration "Misako wasn't alive back then, so she can't be my first mother."
"At least we found my mother," Aria smiles "hopefully it'll tell us where her second book is and how Clouse got his hands on the first one."
"Yeah," Lloyd smiles "we'll be another step closer to figuring out your powers."
The two began to walk out when Lloyd stopped and turned his head.
"What?" Aria questions.
"That book," Lloyd points to one "it has the last name Lord."
"What?!" Aria ran over to it and picked it up.
Lloyd walked over and peered over her shoulder, on the side above the name was the image of spinjitzu with a sphere around it.
"The symbol for airjitzu?" Lloyd questions.
"Zero Yang-Lord," Aria reads.
"Two last names," Lloyd explains to her "he wasn't just Deltorian, he was from Ninjago too."
"My mother... had another kid." Aria says shocked "With someone who wasn't my father!"
"We're finding all sorts of shit today," Lloyd mutters.
The torches in the room suddenly went out, catching the two by surprise.
"We should go," Lloyd says.
Aria holds both her mother's and supposed step-brother's books to her chest as the two make their way out of the room. They exit the building and through the gates, heading back to Ninjago. The two land back atop the mountain where Morro and the ghost knights stood looking defeated.
"What's wrong?" Aria asks worriedly.
"What happened?" Lloyd questions looking slightly irritated.
"I'm sorry," Morro looks away upsettingly as the wind blew "the ninja got the sword."
