20: The Big Day

A/N: Wala ng pasakalye....... diretso na sa update. Dedicated ito sa inyo. You know who you are. 😉

-----------------

"You're bleeding!" He exclaimed. She's crying now. Still not registering what is going on. "Where is the nearest hospital?!" he yelled out loud to the man standing by the door. He looked at him then to Kelly. He saw her paling.

"Take this road sir. Just keep going. It's by the Municipal Hall." The man answered, but then he knows that these people are not from here. "Get her in your vehicle. I'll drive you. We can get there faster." The gentleman pulled a radio on his holster. Said a couple of codes then a police motorcycle came in quick. That's whn Alden realized, he had asked an off duty cop.

"Thank you, sir." He said appreciatively.

"Get in." He told Alden. "Robles, lead the way!" He yelled.

Alden got in the backseat of the car which was parked right in front of them. Alden saw at the corner of his the same car that had been following them earlier made a U turn and follow them again. He doesn't care for now. Whoever would that be. He needs to take Kelly to the hospital.

"Thank you, sir." Alden said.

You're welcome. I am Det. Morgan." He said without glancing back at him. "Is she your wife or girlfriend maybe?" He asked.

"I'm Alden Reyes. No. She's my childhood friend." He answered. There goes the Reyes again. He has to. He's not in the comfort of his own turf.

"Oh, you guys are going to have a baby? And it seemed like you guys are going to lose it." His comment triggered something in his mind.

"Oh, it's not mine. She marrying someone... it's a long story. My fiance is in Manila. She's waiting for me." He doesn't know where to start with his story. This man is a stranger, it doesn't matter if he is a cop, he's still a stranger.

"We're here." Det. Morgan announced. With the help of the gentleman they reached the hospital in no time.

"Thank you, Detective." Alden said shortly. He got out of the car so as the cop. He went straight inside and came out right away with a stretcher and two male nurses. The cop nod at him. He laid Kelly on the stretcher. She was quiet but sobbing quietly, too. Before he could completely go inside the hospital, he detective called him.

"Mr. Reyes!" Alden turn to him. He toss the car key back to him and bid goodbye. Alden did to.

"Sir. The subject is in the hospital with the perp." Det. Morgan had told someone. Whoever and whatever is this, Alden needs to watch out.

He was quite the whole time he was sitting in the waiting room. He was about to pull his phone out when a pair of shoes stood in front of him. He looked up and saw a man with dark circles around his eyes. He look so haggard. No sleep. No eat or something.

"Sit. We are going to wait till the doctor is done with her." He said nonchalantly.

"What happen? I lost you guys on the road. Where did you guys went? What happen to her? Why is she here?" And the twenty questions begin.

"I don't know. She started being hysterical. He was screaming about you cheated on her. That you left her alone. That you don't care for her even after the fact she lost you guys' baby. I don't know what is going on with her but she is mentally incapable of thinking straight. Then she started bleeding....." Chad cut him off.

"Bleeding? Wait... she's bleeding? She pregnant again?" He face palmed. He is now mad at himself. He will be the reason again.

"Chad, what happen to the two of you?" Alden asked. He can't leave right now.

"I was a jerk. I only think of myself. I am angry at the world and I am putting it on her." He had his head hanging down with both his palm of the back of his head.

"Do you love her?" Alden asked.

"Yes, I do. I really do. I am not gonna be here if I don't. I just don't know how to make it up to her after treating her like shit." He said sobbing. Alden felt bad for him. "We lost our baby because of me and now we are losing another one because of me again." Alden saw Chad's shoulder shook. He tapped his shoulder.

"Tell her the truth. Tell her how you feel. Tell her all your fears. It's the only way. She needs you, man. She was so lonely for a long time. She needs you, not your parents, not her parents, just you. I think you guys love each other too much that you just don't know how to treat each other well. Chad, I don't know who you are but if I were in your shoes, I would want Kelly to know who I really am, even if it makes you the weakest person in her eyes. It's the only way." Alden said, speaking from experience.

"Is that how you did things with MD?" Chad asked.

"At first, it wasn't. We have different situation. I was arranged and she was arranged but what we didn't know is that we were arranged to each other but we keep on dodging our meetups. We met in the weirdest way possible but we made it. We work it out. I have so much help from our friends. It's not also bad to open up to close friends and let them see the real you. They can sometimes helped better than family can, because they are not biased. They give advises that is more suitable for you." Alden had learned so much from everybody that cared and loved both him and Maine. "Maine and I didn't have a smooth relationship. We went through tough times too. I proposed to her three." He added chuckling.

"Three times? Why? To show her how much you love her?" Chad asked chuckling, too.

"No. The first one was when she was half asleep half awake or maybe she was totally asleep, I'm not sure" He laughed so as Chad.

"That is a weird way to propose." Chad commented. This time, he was also laughing with him.

"Yeah. What can I say. Torpe eh." He joked. "The second time I did, she rejected out of spite for her father. She was upset at Tito Ted. After that, she disappeared for quite a while. Then Tita Ann finally found out where she's at." He continued to tell their story.

"Finally found her? Or finally they told you where she's at." Chad was chortling a little louder.

"I don't know. I wasn't good at anything that time. I didn't even figured out that she was the one arrange to me not until after Sam, my friend, told me about Maine Mendoza and Maisie Daine Mendoza being one person. I was clueless." He shook his head reminiscing such time. It was priceless though.

"So, how did you do your third proposal to snag the big yes?" Chad asked. He really wanted to know. Maine had told him stories how Alden proposed to her but she didn't say that he did it three times and was turned down down twice, well, sort of.

"It was not on purpose that time. I came back from being gone, or I may say, I came back from hiding, the first I did for the whole month was too stalk her at the coffee shop, on her way home, at her condo which was just across mine. I was so oblivious. I am a beast in the world of business but I was such idiot when it comes to love. Without our friends, I won't even stand a chance. That's when I finally got her yes." He snickered like a little kid. Chad was amused as how he carried things lightly. What about him? How is he going to turn this ugly situation into something good if not better.

"What am I going to do? She may be loathing me now." Chad said honestly.

"She will, but the thing with love, it may get upset but it will never get angry. It will always forgive, because love is kind. Love is forgiving. Love is patient. Love does not keep tabs on wrong doings. It gets hurt but it will never turn it's back on you. Show her how much sorry you are, and how much you love her, even of she say she hates you. Always be there for her even if she asks you to leave. Always be available even if she tells you she doesn't need you. Always smile even she feeds you sadness. Try not to make her cry because she is hurting, not unless it's tears of joy. Love her even it takes time for her to love you again, especially now that you are going to be a daddy again." Daddy. That's was cool. He felt excited for Chad.

"Yeah. I'm going to be a dad." He smiled bitterly but the spark in his eyes.

"There you go, daddy." Alden's eyes went big. It just dawn on him. Maine called him daddy before she hang up on him earlier. "Chad, Can I leave you here? I want to go home to Maine now. She called me Daddy earlier." But before Chad could answer, the ER doctor showed up asking for the patient's family.

"Who's the family of the patient?" He asked.

"I am!/We are!" They both replied. The doctor just stared at them.

"I'm a family friend." Alden said.

"I'm the fiancee." Chad chided in.

"I'm Dr. Lina. Dr. Joselito Lina. I'm the resident Physician here. The patient is okay now. She's unconscious at the moment, but she'll be okay when wakes up. She can go home after. She needs a complete rest. She needs a good diet and a stress free surrounding." They are both listening. They are both nodding.

"How's the baby?" Chad asked.

"The baby is fine as the moment. She's 8 weeks pregnant. Her first trimester is the most sensitive stage. As long as she don't stress the baby will be fine. I have prescribed vitamins and there's a list of food the she can work around to make her and her baby healthy. I am keeping her tonight till tomorrow to make sure she'll be perfect to travel." The doctor already know that they are not from here.

"Thank you, Doc. Are we gonna be able to see her?" Alden asked. The doctor smiled and nod at them. As the doctor turn his back from them and the two are ready to follow him, he had turn back around to face them again.

"Is there a problem, Doc." Chad asked. He had this puzzling look on his face that the two are getting worried for. It that there's more to the Kelly's condition than they know especially him.

"I just wanted to know if this is her first pregnancy I presume?" That doctor gave them both a wondering look.

"No, doc. We had one a few months back and she had a miscarriage due to stress." Chad honestly answered the doctor. He felt a pang of guilt. A thud in the chest.

"I understand. This pregnancy may lead to another miscarriage if she continued being stress. Before she lost her consciousness earlier, she's babbling about, it will be her fault this time." The doctor looked confuse.

"What do you mean by it's her fault this time?" Chad asked him more baffled. He doesn't understand what was he talking about.

"I am not sure but that's what she keeps on repeating. And with that said, I see a hint of a psychological disorder. Has she been showing signs of change in attitude out of nowhere?" The doctor ask. Alden and Chad looked at each other and somehow understood each other like they've known each other for years.

"She had been possessive and territorial." Alden said.

"Oh you observed that, too?" Chad chided in. "She had also been secretive. And most of the time sad. She had been drinking alcohol lately." Chad added on. Brows furrowed, looking like he was trying to remember other things that had changed about her.

"You know what, she had came to my condo one time and she was so drunk. She passed out and we have to call 911 for her. Maine was so mad but kept her cool." Alden trying to remember more details of that night but all he could see in his mind is Maine that little brown bag that he had dropped, which he hasn't given to Maine yet.

"If I am not mistaken..... Will you sit down for a moment." Dr. Lina pointed out the line of metal chair bolted on the floor against the wall behind them. All the three men seated. "Like I said earlier, she may be suffering from Grief Depression. I am not an expert on this but I know a little of it. It is best the you find her a good psychiatrist that could help her and with her condition right now being pregnant, it will mess her up more and worst, she'll lose another pregnancy." Said Dr. Lina.

"How bad it is, Doc?" Chad queried. He wanted to know a little bit more than just a name of it. Alden was just listening. He knows he needs to call Maine right now or anyone so he could get picked up but he wanted to know what is the doctor going to say.

"It is impossible for any outside observer to draw a general line in the sand over what is grief and what is depression for any particular person. Researchers who have studied post-miscarriage grief do not have set guidelines for how to differentiate grief from depression. If she had been persistently feeling sadness, emptiness, hopelessness, guilt or helplessness, or maybe sometimes she's irritable or too restless, or had she lost of interest in any of her usual enjoyable activities, or always tired to almost fatigue and experiencing low of energy. Is she having problems in concentrating and making decisions? What about sleep disturbances? How about changes in her appetite? Had she ever thoughts of suicide or maybe wanting to commit one? Any persistent pains or digestive problems that do not respond to treatment?" Dr. Lina had asked. (CTTO forgot the website but thank you) Alden and Chad exchange glances and stares. Alden for sure doesn't know except for a change in her attitude, but how does he know the difference? He hasn't seen her in years. Maybe 10 or 11 years, or maybe more.

"All I know is that, she has been doing some erratic decision. She has been unpredictable. She's always staring blankly. She's not eating right. She has been drinking. Always disappears. She'll sleep during the days but most of the time she's awake almost all the time. And I thought she has just been experiencing insomnia and that why she's looking so haggard all the time. I didn't know she's may be experiencing grief. She doesn't share things to me." He went quiet for a while. Alden seen his hand shaking a bit. "Well, I can't blame her for not telling me things. I was so hurt when lost our first baby. I just don't want to talk about it. I just wanted to always stay away from her because it was my fault. I always stress her out with my races and the girls and the alcohols. I am always out and when I come home, I come home almost to morning ang will sleep almost all day and will leave again right before sundown." He is now sobbing between words. Alden felt his pain. The doctor gave him and knowing look.

"I don't want to meddle in your personal affairs but if you want this child to be healthy and so as the mother, I think you need to change all those attitude and be a responsible man. You are going to be a father now." Chad felt a fatherly love in his words. "You can still be race car daddy that you want, but for now, Mommy and baby comes first." He doesn't feel an attack to his ego with what the doctor was saying but instead he felt so light when he heard what the doctor had uttered. It was way different from how his father would talked to him. He doesn't know this man but he loves what he was hearing from him.

"Thank you, Doc. I will take care of her. I will make sure that we go she a psychiatrist." He said with a smile. Alden saw that smile reached his eyes and he felt light. Now, he needs to face his Maine. He maybe a father, too and he wouldn't know till he gets home.

"So, can we see her now?" Alden asked Dr. Lina. The doctor just smiled and nod.

"Go right ahead." He said with a loving smile. "But if she starts to become agitated, I am kicking you boys out." He jokingly said. Alden and Chad feeling happy, at least Alden is somewhat feeling happy, stood straight and gave the doctor a Cab Scout salute. They didn't see what each other did but the doctor laughed heartily with their actions. They glanced at each other and found out what and they burst in a fit of laugh. The doctor just shook his head.

"Okay now, boys. We need to be quiet, some of the patients are actually trying to rest a bit. Some of them are in real pain. You guys are just lucky that we don't have much of an emergency patients as of the moment." He said then gave the two young men a two finger salute as well, then left.

"Well, congratulation soon-to-be-dad!" Alden playfully punched Chad on the shoulder. They started talking as they slowly walking towards where Kelly is.

"So, how are you and MD met really?" Chad asked. Alden smiled remembering the first day they met.

"Well, actually, me and Maine had met before. I am about to graduate college. I was working late at my dad's company, which is mine now, when I bumped into her at the parking lot. She called me a jerk face. Hahaha!" He said with a twinkle in his eyes reminiscing the old days which felt like was just yesterday. Any memory with Maine was so fresh and vivid in his mind. Everything that happened in the past seemed like it just happened yesterday or a few hours ago.

"You are really in love with her, are you?" Chad said as he bumped Alden's shoulder.

"Yes. Yes, I am. Very much." He replied. His smiles reached both his ears.

"I think you need to stop grinning like an idiot. Baka mapunit yang bibig mo. Hahaha!" Chad teased Alden. He wasn't able to replied back because they were already standing right in front of the closed green curtain. Chad slowly opened it. Both of their faces are so serious. There was no trace of that smile that had just exchanged not too long ago.

"There she is, asleep." Alden motioned Chad to go first and he did.

"She looks so peaceful." Chad said sounding like mesmerized by her. "She's so beautiful." He added.

"Dude...." Alden handed him a handkerchief. He furrowed his brows wondering what is it for. "Laway mo, tumutulo." Alden added quietly giggling. Chad turned around acted as if he is going to punch him straight in the snout. He giggled more.

"Shut up!" He yelled quietly to Alden. He didn't know that Alden has this side. All he knows of him aside firm Maine's fiancee, is that he a notorious beast in the business world.

They sat there and waited till she wakes up. Chad made a few phone calls so as Alden. Chad laughed at kind of phone he was holding but he ignored his new idiot friend. Well, he can only call Ivy, so he doesn't have a choice but to make Ivy do his job for him. Everything ends well at that moment. They'll find out what is going to happen when Kelly wakes up. He wants to leave but he does not want to drive since it's getting late now and him not having a rest and sleep, he doesn't want to drive and get into an accident if he falls asleep behind the wheel. Another thing for Maine to be sad about. He told Ivy his plan. He will take the nights rest. Chad had him use his car back to Manila since he have Kelly's car. He'll take care of her so Alden can go home to Maine and rest and prepare for the most awaited big day.
