Chapter 1

"Hey, Sophie, can I borrow your iPod?" Dex burst into Sophie's room in Havenfield, breathless and panting. From the wet splotches on his jerkin, Sophie could see that either it was raining or he'd passed through the pastures and Verdi had spat on him.

"Why?" Sophie queried, taking the iPod in question out of the drawer in her desk.

"Oh, nothing..." Dex mumbled, blushing. "I just want to listen to music. You know... The Elvin music isn't that awesome." Sophie shrugged and handed over the device, even though she could tell that there was more behind his desire to listen to her music.

Dex could feel a tingle in his hands as he took the iPod from Sophie, and his head filled with ideas. "Oh, shoot. I'm sorry, Dex, I must have forgotten to put my gloves on after writing a report for the council," Sophie exclaimed as Dex groped around for a chair.

"Ufff..."

Dex groaned as she dragged a chair up."Here, have a seat. Wait here a minute, then you can go." Dex collapsed on the chair while Sophie put on her gloves. After a minute he raised his pathfinder to the light and disappeared in a flash.

"I got it!" Dex yelled excitedly as he raced into his room at Rimeshire. All of his best friends, except for Sophie of course, were sitting on his bed. A wide grin formed on Linh Song's face, and she ran over and hugged him. "Brilliant! Dex, you're the absolute best!" Her twin, Tam, groaned.

"Seriously, Linh? Seriously?"

Keefe smirked, and jabbed his elbow in Fitz's torso. "Told ya he'd be able to do it!"

Fitz quickly retaliated by sending him a telepathic message: You're so going to pay for that, Sencen.

"Okay, Linh, why do you need Sophie's iPod, and more importantly, what on earth are you planning?" Dex asked, his eyes still shining.

"Well, it started a couple of weeks ago, when Fitz told me that the anniversary of Sophie's arrival in the Lost Cities would be a month from then. I felt it would be nice to celebrate, and whatever we do, I knew that we'd have to have some of Sophie's favorite human music."

"Nice idea!" Biana laughed, giving Linh a hi-five. "We have got to do this."

Dex quickly copied the music onto a small storage device, and separated it into the different playlists. He then transferred each playlist onto a miniature copy of Sophie's iPod, which he'd made at Linh's request the day before.

"Dibs on the rock and roll!" Keefe called, snatching up the device. He switched on the music, turned up the volume, and started dancing around.

Dex grabbed it and switched off the music. "Here, take these." He offered Keefe a set of headphones, and the latter groaned and took them.

"I was planning to pay a visit to my father and annoy him by blasting this stuff so loud that it would reverberate throughout Candleshade," Keefe sighed.

Tam raised an eyebrow. "I really understand that urge. I'll take the heavy metal, and I'll play it at home. Since Dad loves Mom's music, he's gonna go bananas."

Linh smacked him. "What about Mom?"

"Take her outside and show her your control."

Linh rolled her eyes at her twin. "Tam, she already knows I have awesome control. I was the one who prevented the flooding of Atlantis, remember?"

Keefe laughed around the music blasting in his headphones. "Listen, Song, you would have never managed it if me and Foster weren't there, so..."

"I want to help," a deep voice said from the doorway. Everyone looked at the doorway to see Wylie Endal standing there, with Juline, Dex's mom, peeking out from behind Wylie's impressive height.

"I hope you don't mind that I brought him up," Juline said, then ran downstairs to stop the triplets from clobbering each other.

"Sophie Foster kept believing when I didn't, and she saved my dad from remaining broken. I want to help you celebrate her and her achievements," Wylie declared.

"Thanks Wylie, it means a lot to us," Linh blushed. All eyes were drawn to her and Wylie, which just made it more embarrassing.

She took a mini iPod with one of Sophie's playlists, grabbed Tam's hand and raised her crystal to the light. Before they disappeared, Keefe saw the scowl on Tam's face, but then they stepped into the light and glittered away. He took out an earbud and yelled, "Oh boy, Linh is in for it when they get back to Tiergan's!"

Wylie took two of the iPods, and smiled. "I noticed Tam forgot to take one, and besides I need to get back to my dads at home." He then pulled out his pathfinder and leaped away.

"Okay, I'll go return Sophie hers, and then, well, see ya!" Fitz rose from the bed, and held out his hand to Biana. "You coming, Biana?"

Biana nodded and got up. "I would like to see Sophie- last time I saw her was the last time she was on a break from the Golden Tower, and then she had loads of homework. So, see you tomorrow, Dex, Keefe?" She held up a hand for a hi-five, and Dex obliged. Then she and her brother entered the light created by her pathfinder and vanished.

"So, it's just us again. Team Keefex."

Dex laughed at Keefe's comment, especially because he had no idea how loud he was speaking. Dex yanked an earbud out of Keefe's ear and shouted: "Go, annoy your father, get out, okay? You're giving me a headache." Keefe raised his hand in the Mercadir's salute, and vanished into the light from his home crystal, with the earbud still dangling.

"Ah well," Dex sighed and sat down on his bed. He pressed a hidden button, revealing a small compartment in which lay a small plush imp. Just then his mom entered the room, carrying a tray of cinnacreme. "Where is everyone?" Juline looked confused. Dex shoved the drawer closed and replied, "They went home. Today was a long day." Juline handed him a mug, and both just sat there, drinking their cinnacreme.

"Oh, that reminds me. Kesler asked if you could join him in the shop, apparently there's a long line and he doesn't have time to help everyone," Juline slapped her forehead. Dex jumped up, all exhaustion forgotten. "Sure thing, hail Dad to let him know, okay? I just need to change my shirt. Verdi drool." Five minutes later, Dex leaped to their family's apothecary store.

Well, this is my first attempt at writing KotLC fanfiction. It's definitely better than the version I wrote in my school notebook though!

Comment any songs you want Sophie's friends to choose, because admittedly, I have no idea. It seems like a different person is in control when I'm writing this.

I'm also writing a PJO/HoO fanfiction called Parkour Percy and a TMI fanfiction called The Days After. It would be great if you guys read them, because I really have no confidence about my writing!

Thanks for not hating my stories!
