4-A Lot Can Happen In Two Hours

"No eating in the car! You're going to spill!" I scold Petra, as she raises her hands in surrender and puts the bag of chips down. I take my eyes off the rear-view mirror and back on the road.

"You know, you sound like a mom." She grumbles, folding her arms across her chest. Lukas chuckles and Ivor grunts.

We're on our way to Building Con right now. I'm driving, Ivor's in the seat next to me, and Lukas and Petra are in the back.

Ivor is wearing a simple set of jeans and dark green shirt. I had to force him to take two showers, and I wouldn't unlock the door unless he picked something decent to wear.

Petra is wearing a white tank-top, with a flannel tied around her waist and some dark colored shorts. She's also wearing a necklace with a mini golden sword attached and her normal blue striped bandana.

Lukas is wearing what he usually wears, a striped shirt and black jacket and some jeans.

I picked out my favorite pair of overalls, a light brown with a teal shirt underneath. I pushed my hair to the side with a red clip.

This outfit makes me look, and I quote Petra, like the "Queen of the nerds."

Of course, I don't mind. I love this outfit. Nothing's going to change that.

"Jesse is technically the mom of the group," Lukas exclaims, looking up from the book he's reading. "Caring, protective, helpful-"

"-bossy, strict, doesn't let people eat in the car-" Petra finishes, a small smirk on her face.

"I will turn this car around, right now." I say, stopping at the red light. From here, I can see the bright lights of Building Con shine through the darkness.

"Sure, Jesse." She replies, shrugging, not believing my threat. The light turns green, and I turn left; a u-turn. I turn so suddenly that everyone lurches to the side, crying out. Petra's face is priceless.

"Okay! Okay! I'm sorry!" She shouts in defeat. "Just turn back around!"

It's my turn to smirk. I turn back around and head back towards Building Con.

"Geez, woman." Petra murmurs, grabbing her head. Lukas laughs and closes his book, setting it down on the seat. Ivor just groans.

After a few moments I pull into the parking area, right before paying for parking (a good waste of twenty dollars, but worth it). The place is packed, people in different outfits running around, little kiosks on the outside before entering the large building shaped like a dome. After a while, I finally find a spot, and stop the car.

"Alright, come on kiddos." I joke, grinning. "Let's go have some fun."

After getting through the ticket registering and all that, we finally headed inside.

Let me tell you, it's a sight I've always wished to see.

There's bright lights everywhere, different tables and stations, and people. There's a large stage in the center, no one on it yet, just a microphone and stand. Decorations and posters are hung on the walls, showing a different celebrity or famous quote. And probably my favorite-there are different buildings and inventions everywhere, each placed on a different table for inspection. I can feel my heart race.

Petra, Lukas, and ivor are looking around too in pure amazement. I nudge the old man playfully.

"See? You're going to enjoy this." I say, and the smile quickly disappears from his face.

"No, no I'm not." He replies, but he can't hide the look of excitement in his eyes. I chuckle and pat him on the shoulder.

I turn back to see Petra basically having a fangirl attack. Her eyes are darting from stand to stand, looking around eagerly. Lukas catches my eye and shrugs, grinning.

"Two hours." I say, to everyone and myself. "Then we'll meet back up at the stage."

Petra nods excitedly and then runs off in the opposite direction. Lukas sighs and runs a hand through his hair.

"I better make sure she doesn't cause any trouble." He replies, nodding his head toward her. I just shrug in response.

"She's Petra, she's gonna get into trouble either way."

His eyes glint with amusement and we laugh a bit, before I nod.

"Alright, go on ahead. Two hours." I remind him before he goes after her.

I shake my head at my best friends and then turn back to Ivor.

"Guess it leaves you and me." I shrug, smiling. Then I grab his arm. "Let's go see all those inventions!"

***

"Thank you," I exclaim, taking the two hotdogs wrapped in foil and my receipt, in which I toss in the garbage can. I hand Ivor one of the hotdogs.

We've been looking around the tables and inventions. All different kinds and types, each one doing a different thing. It's been amazing. Ivor's been enjoying himself too. We've been able to talk about smart-people things, as one would call it. It all went by so fast.

So far, it's been about an hour and forty five minutes.

We finish eating our food, and I take a glance at my cracked phone.

"It's about nine fifty five, we should meet the others soon." I exclaim, and Ivor nods.

"Alright-hey, look! Someone's going to present their invention soon! We should go see!" This time, Ivor grabs my arm and drags me in the direction of the stage.

"Wait, Ivor-hold up-" I stop and he lets go of my arm. "Let me just text them first-"

Suddenly, body collides with mine, making me fall backwards towards the ground, the phone falling out of my hand. I gasp and groan as I hit the floor.

"My goodness-I am so sorry!" I look up to see a woman, with dark hair and about Ivor's age, with a dark shirt and pants, looking at me with concern. She immediately offers me a hand in which I take to stand up. "I wasn't looking  where I was going-"

"It's fine, are you okay?" I ask her, and she nods. Then she looks down at the floor and I realize there's a bunch of papers scattered. I bend down to help her pick them up, along with my cracked phone.

"Thank you so much, I've got to get up there soon-it's so stressful." She exclaims wistfully, standing up after gathering most of the papers. I hand her the rest.

"No problem. Building Con can be pretty...overwhelming." I reply, chuckling. She laughs.

"Tell me about it." The woman says, scratching the back of her head. "I'm a nervous wreck. I've got to go up and present a new invention of mine, and you know-butterflies in my stomach."

"Oh, you're the one presenting?" I ask curiously, and somewhat excited. "That's so cool! My friends and I were about to go watch. And don't worry, you'll do fine. Once you start, well, the nervousness goes away. Don't think about it to much."

She sighs a bit, and smiles, fixing the papers a bit in her hand.

"Thank you-um, I never did catch your name."

"Oh, the name's Jesse. My friend over there is Ivor." I turn to the old man at my left side, who's staring intently, speechless. I haven't even noticed that he hadn't talked this entire time. I elbow him and he snaps out of his daze, raising a hand weakly.

"H-hello." He stammers, and I look at him, confused. But suddenly I smirk a bit, realizing what's going on.

"I'm Ms. Mesa, but please, call me Harper." The woman replies, shaking my hand. "I'm glad I bumped into you, well not literally-but you know what I mean."

Just then, the music dies down along with the voices of the crowd, and the lights move so that they're faced toward the stage. Harper takes in a deep breath.

"Hey, catch me after the presentation okay? I want to give you something."  She exclaims, running off before I can reply.

Once she's completely gone, I elbow Ivor again, hard.

"Ow!" He groans, rubbing his arm. "What was that-"

"We found you a wife, Ivor~" I whisper loudly, smirking again. I giggle as his cheeks turn a deep red. Before he can speak I gesture him over to the stage, where the audience is standing. "Let's go see her."

I'm working on next chapter except I'm experiencing...yea, you guessed it
