2-Explain
I'm so surprised my phone falls from my shoulder and onto the ground, along with dropping my keys at the same time. I can hear the small sound of my phone cracking and the keys jingling.
I shake my head and quickly recover from the shock.
"What the hell?!" I exclaim, watching as a nervous Petra smiles ashamedly at me. Her red and orange hair is tied back in a messy ponytail, some of it covered by her usual blue striped bandana. She's wearing a black and gray outfit with shorts and long socks.
A phone-Lukas' I'm guessing-is glued to her hand.
"Oh, uh, hi Jesse." She finally says, shrugging, embarrassed.
"Don't 'hi Jesse' me." I retort, closing the door behind me. "You've got a lot of explaining to do."
Petra is another one of my close friends. We haven't known each other as long as I've known Axel and Olivia, but we're still just as close. But sometimes, she can be a real pain in the-
"I know, I know. And I'm sorry. Let's sit down first." She replies, biting her lip. I groan and nod, bending down to pick up my keys and phone.
"Shit." I murmur quietly as I look at the screen. It's cracked, badly. Though none of the glass popped out. I run my finger along it, slowly and carefully, and then turn it on.
The good thing is that it still works, and I can't feel any of the cracks. The bad thing is, well, it's cracked. Everything on the screen is blurry and I can barely make out the words and numbers.
I let out a breath and stand up, showing Petra my phone.
"You're paying to fix this." I say in annoyance. "And whatever pizza you just ordered with my credit card."
Her eyes widen.
"How did you-?" She stammers, evidently surprised.
"Petra! Where's my phone?!" A voice suddenly shouts from upstairs. I literally face-palm.
"Oh for Notch's sake-"
***
I take a sip of my sweet iced tea, before placing the mug carefully back down on its coaster. Then I take a bite out of the cheese pizza Petra ordered. Hey, I'm the one who bought it, I should get to have some of it.
Once I'm done drinking and chewing I stop, folding my arms across my chest.
"Now, is there anyone else in my house that I should be aware of? Or are you gonna lie about that too?" I ask, calmly. Petra is sitting across the table from me, along with our other friend Lukas.
The same with Petra, I haven't known him for as long as Axel and Olivia, but we're still best friends. We met about five years ago, more or less. He was part of a gang and we pulled him out. It's a long story, but you get the idea.
"No I promise. It's just me and Lukas." She says, and then reaches out to take a pizza slice. I slap her hand away.
"Hey!" She exclaims, and Lukas bursts into laughter. "What was that for?"
I smile and chuckle a bit.
"I'm technically the one who bought it. And besides, you haven't told me anything yet. Now, explain." I point the slice of pizza at her.
Petra huffs and Lukas' laughter dies down to a smile.
"Fine, fine. Okay, it started when I went to try to get myself a ticket for Building Con. I've been wanting to go for years, but I've never been able to get a ticket. They're always sold out." She makes a bitter face at that. "And of course with my luck, they were sold out. Again.
"Anyway, you know Dan, Lizzie, and them? Stacy and Stampy?" She asks and we both nod. They're a group of friends who go to our college. "Well, Stampy got a really bad cold a few days ago, and they decided to not go. 'If one falls, we all fall,' that kinda thing. So...they gave me their tickets."
A devilish smile lights up her face as her fingers tap on the table impatiently. It then turns into an innocent one.
"Look, I didn't want to tell you 'cause I thought you'd think I'm a nerd. No offense to you guys." I roll my eyes playfully and share a quick glance with Lukas.
We're both nerds, probably the biggest ones there are.
"I was happy I got tickets...I just didn't know who to take. Because like I said, whoever I took would think I'm a nerd." She sighs, still fidgeting with her fingers. "But then a few hours ago it all just rushed right to my head...and then I realized that I would rather hang out with my friends than be alone."
I listen to her story, taking bites of pizza during. Lukas takes a slice and starts to eat too.
"There. You have your explanation. Can I eat now?" Petra asks, somewhat desperately, reaching out for the pizza slowly. I quickly close the box and bring it towards me. She groans and Lukas laughs again.
"You still have to explain why you were in my house, oh, and you-" I reach and grab Lukas' pizza slice out of his hand before he can eat it it.
"Hey!" He protests, a grin lighting up his face. I smirk and hold the pizza away from both of them, before taking a another bite out of my own.
"Explain." I say, my tone leaving no tone for argument.
"Look, it was Petra, I swear! She called me over to your place and I-I-" he stops suddenly, thinking for a moment. "I guess I just assumed you were there. She never really told me. Sorry about that."
He gives me the puppy dog eyes, and I can't help but smile in defeat.
"Yeah, that was my fault. Look, I'm sorry too. I just couldn't help it. I've almost never been to your place and with Axel and Olivia out of town, I thought we could have some fun. And besides, you're the one who told me where you hid your spare keys." She grins slyly again after the last part, her hazel eyes sparkling with mischief. I remember it barely.
Don't worry, I'm already regretting it my decision. I sigh and rub the temples on my forehead, clearing my head. Okay, maybe that part was my fault.
"Okay, now that we got that cleared up," I exclaim, relieved to get this over with. "There's still one more person we can bring, right?"
Petra looks at me, raises an eyebrow, and then nods.
"And I get to choose?"
She nods again, and I slide both of them the pizza box, biting my lip as I think. Petra and Lukas both grab their respective slice and begin to eat, laughing.
I wait until I catch her eye and then smirk. Petra is about to take a bite when she sees me and stops, waiting for a moment. Then she slaps her hand on the forehead and groans.
"Oh, come on Jesse. Not him."
I laugh and shake my head, amused.
