Chapter 38 Getting together

Randall's POV

We dragged Karim with us to where we knew Ralph and Aiden would be. They were relaxing by the fire when we stormed in. My brother looked at the door with wide eyes at the loud noise but he relaxed when he saw it was us.

"I thought we knew how to knock?" He chuckled lightly but his voice wavered a little bit. "Is everything alright?" His words were slow, I didn't like it.

"No," Tempest answered shortly. I expected her to keep going but all she did was cross her arms and tap her foot.

"We're not happy with what's been planned," I continued for the sake of getting this conversation over with. "We think it's a bad idea separating packs. We think it's a bad idea separating in general." Ralph sighed and looked towards Aiden for help. Aiden just shrugged and shook his head.

"I know." He stood up and moved around the settee, facing us. "I don't agree with it either. Neither does Carme, Waverly, or Arkin. Nobody is paying attention to us because we don't have the majority vote." I shook my head in disbelief, as well as a few other members of our family.

"Majority vote is a bunch of rubbish," Karim pointed out with his arms crossed. "If we go the way they're planning the majority would be dead." It wasn't one of the times where I appreciated his blunt honesty. "The pups will be vulnerable, the rest of the pack will be vulnerable if you take the best fighters to attack."

We had shifted into a circle at this point, Aiden standing between Ralph and Karim. "I agree fully." Aiden nodded his head. "He goes for the weakest parts in the chain and uses it to shatter the entire pack." Bitterness hung from every word that he said, which usually happened when discussing Travis.

"We have to convince them," Rhodes stepped forward slightly. "Our children are already at great risk, we can't put them in more danger." Ralph snorted humorlessly at her words.

"Would you like to know Kian's reaction to that?" Ralph shifted, his shoulders slumped slightly and his hands balled into fists. "They're werewolves, they've got to learn from a young age to look after themselves. They've got to learn how to fight or die." Elowen's mouth opened wide in shock.

"Our youngest is five!" She nearly shrieked. "They can't fight against fully grown adults who have been training their entire lives." Her face was getting redder and redder.

"It's impossible, what if the place gets ambushed?" Hollis moved his hand to his mouth and started to bite at his nails. "Do we know if they have any protocol on that?" I bit my lip slightly. It was very clear who was the youngest out of all the parents. Hollis and Elowen have been the kind to worry since I can remember. Tempest and Moss were the oldest in the pack, save for my father and Lathen. They planned their pregnancy to a T and how they would bring up their children. The fact that they were twins threw a little trouble their way but they took it in stride. Beaumont and Rhodes looked towards them for advice on how they should go about doing things. They loved Lowell so much they decided to have Oran a few years later. Elowen and Hollis were rather inexperienced and didn't plan too much since we were going through a tough patch. Melina was rather easy to take care of, not getting too fussy or in any trouble.

"I'm sure they don't." Ralph shook his head. "What are we supposed to do? Refuse to co-operate until they listen?" The room fell into a silence as glances were exchanged. "That's not a good idea."

"It's the best idea we've had so far," Moss pointed out."If we get the other packs with us, then we could make a big difference."

"Exactly," Tempest continued on for her husband."They won't be able to do anything about it if we're all refusing. It's for the good of our packs." Aiden started to chuckle.

"We're protesting on a protest which started because we protested." He looked towards the ceiling as he stretched slightly. "I agree that it's a good move, though I'm not sure who would listen to us."

"We'll make them listen." Karim stepped forward and gave everyone a glance. "We're a big enough group to make a world of a difference."

"But now it's time for bed." Rhodes also stretched slightly. "We can probably round up the alphas we'd like to talk to tomorrow." The room emptied just as quick as it filled.

It felt like we were in one of those spy movies that Aiden had shown us. We were sitting at the table which we dubbed ours for our stay and looking around for the alphas that we wanted to talk to. Arkin was pretty easy to find, given his long mane of hair and tall stature. Waverly and Carme were significantly harder to find, the latter being smaller than Abilene, which is saying something.

My leg was kicked under the table, causing my head to snap back around to Beaumont, who had a grin on his face. He leaned over across the table and whispered to me, "go on agent 004, recruit." I gave him a glare before turning back around.

Arkin was laughing with his pack mates despite the lingering air of a battle. "Hello," I spoke as I stood beside him slightly. He turned to me in surprise and raised an eyebrow.

"Randall, can I help you?" I understood his confusion, I hadn't made any move to talk to anyone outside of my pack really.

"Yeah actually, Ralph wants to talk to you about something later." I played with the sleeve of my hoodie slightly and shifted from foot to foot.

Arkin nodded his head and smiled lightly. "Of course, I've got plenty of time." The person who was beside him gave him a slight nudge, which he chuckled at. "I've got training at three, whatever that means. So I guess I do still have plenty of time." The person looked a little happier.

"Cool, see you then." I hurried back to my seat, where Beaumont was smirking at me. I stuck my tongue out at him again before I was allowed to go back to my breakfast.

"You're talking to the others," I mumbled under my breath, much to their amusement. The rest of the meal went by pretty much undisturbed. The troublesome teenager trio had joined us at some point. I hadn't liked that name for them at first, but it fits. I'm only going to be a teenager for a couple more months, so I supposed there was no harm in it.

"Done," Ralph came to see us after everyone started to file out of the room. "How come none of you talked to Carme or Waverly?" He furrowed his eyebrows at us. I shrugged lightly and everyone shook their heads.

"Didn't see them." Rhodes shrugged lightly. "Did you?" Ralph looked at her like it was obvious.

"Yeah, they were behind you." The others blinked blankly. I started to chuckle, that made sense. "Let's not keep them waiting."

There were so many people in the room, it wasn't the greatest amount of people that I had seen in a room before, but this room was tiny. It was holding four packs and the walls were basically bursting. We were all sat behind our alphas. It felt like we were children, watching a teacher give a lecture.

"So you're planning to just...not do what Ashton says?" Waverly asked slowly. "That doesn't sound too great." Ralph shook his head and shifted so he was facing her.

"No, we're planning to argue against what they're planning. We've got plenty of reasons why it's a bad idea. If we come together to present them, I'm sure we could make a difference." I couldn't see his expression but his voice was level and informative.

"Right, we'd be with you on that." Arkin gestured to the rest of his pack. "I don't agree with it at all, they don't even let the packs come to these meetings. We just need the list of reasons." Carme started to fidget with her hands.

"This list of reasons, what are they?" Carme spoke calmly and carefully. It was as though she was talking to an actual wolf, trying not to startle it.

"The pups will be vulnerable," Elowen spoke before she looked back down. Ralph gestured towards her with a hand and a kind smile.

"If we send our strongest wolves out to fight then we won't have any protection." Ralph nodded as he spoke. "Splitting up is never something we've agreed with." Arkin sighed and shook his head.

"We can't just say that." Arkin gestured with a hand towards Ralph. "They would just say that it's your strategy, you should broaden your horizons and be open to more ideas." I sighed lightly and put my head on my hand.

"We can't leave them either," Waverly shook her head as she looked down, picking up a pup and putting them on her lap. That was her son, she took him everywhere she went. I didn't know if it was paranoia or lack of a caretaker. "We can't bring them to fight. They'd be too vulnerable anywhere, they have to be protected."

"We could-" Ralph was interrupted by a loud alarm going off. Everyone scrambled to their feet. Aiden looked around, searching for something.

"An alarm," I mumbled under my breath.

"We're under attack."
