Chapter 27 Lucky save
-Ralph's POV-
"It's started," Aiden's voice came from the doorway to the kitchen. I looked up at him with curiosity and confusion. He had only just left the room a few minutes ago, after answering the phone to Harlow.
"What's started?" The words came from my mouth, even though I was in the process of being dragged into the living room. I was followed into the room by several members of the pack who I couldn't see due to being a bit distracted by the images on Harlow's laptop. It was the early evening, it wasn't long until they had to leave. "Oh gosh," I trailed off as my eyes widened even more.
"That's barbaric," Elowen mumbled under her breath. There were nods and hums of agreement. They were knocking the trees down with their machines and digging into the dirt. Animals were nowhere to be found, which is unusual for that part of the forest.
"That's humans," Moss said with his voice dripping with salt. "No offence," he said with a quick afterthought to the humans we were in the presence of. "I can't even say that, can I? He used to be one of us." Dad shook his head at his words.
"He used to be, but that's why he's doing it." Dad moved forward into the room, shaking his head at the screen. "He's doing it slowly, he's showing us that he can do this before he actually does anything."
"Didn't he do that by killing Lathen?" Tempest's voice was like daggers piercing my ears. It made everything seem more real, like I had put my head back and I was surrounded by water, the voices were clearer but far away. "So he's just showing off."
"He's an asshole," Moss replied as his anger grew. "We shouldn't be surprised."
Aiden's brows furrowed as he turned to me. "Didn't Ashton say that they were already doing construction in their forest?" I nodded my head simple, barely being able to concentrate. "How'd he go back from doing that to coming here? It's not a quick journey and it makes no sense as to why he's doing both at once."
"To shove it in our faces," Moss' response was immediate. He was working more on anger than anything else at this point, not really concentrating on words. I had a feeling that more of us were doing that then we'd care to admit.
"We might be in business." Harlow continued to mumble under his breath. Karim and Emi were taking turns to write things on the computer. "I don't think they'll be doing construction for much longer." The screen was primarily blue with different symbols on it.
"What's that?" Elowen blinked at the screen. Harlow and Aiden gave her looks of varying shock before sharing a look between themselves.
"It's a weather report," Aiden informed. "It's going to turn, rather quickly." I stepped forward so that I could get a closer look, as did the majority of those who were behind me.
Aftera few minutes of explaining the different symbols to us; Harlow pointed out the temperature which is going to be plaguing us over the next few days. "That'll put a spanner in the works." A few moments of silence followed before the room let out a collective sigh of relief.
"That's going to be going all over the UK," Karim pointed out. "That means every pack is going to be affected by it, Travis can't do anything in the snow. We could still do what we wanted to do." He was fidgeting a lot, I couldn't blame him.
"How?" Beaumont stepped into the room, his children were hanging onto his legs. "Transport won't be available for us." I nodded at his point, lifting a hand to my chin before scoffing slightly.
"We're wolves," I said plainly. "We had a way of travel far before human transportation came around. We just have to be careful." I didn't miss Aidens' concerned glances which burnt my cheek.
"You're going to travel all around the UK by paw?" Emi asked with a weary look. "Wouldn't that cause a lot of trouble? With humans? Travel? Food? Shelter?" She would've gone on forever if Karim hadn't nudged her lightly and shook his head.
"Werewolves can do well enough for shelter and food, the only issue would be the humans. Just gotta know where to go." Karim's eyes travelled to Aiden. "You do geography right?"
Aiden sitantly nodded. "Aye, animal habitat mainly but I could try to figure out a route for that." He seemed to struggle for a word to describe our current situation. "Who would...be doing this?" The awkwardness rolled off him in waves.
I was now the centre of attention, "Same formation," I nodded with each word. "It would make most sense, only one at a time. We'd need to have someone in their wolf form all the time to keep tabs."
"You literally have telepathy?" Harlow's eyes were wide as he looked up at me. "Wicked." I shook my head with a chuckle as the present members of the pack nodded. I felt a little bad for saying this, though it's the best way that I could think of. I was tempted to look to my father for help, but this was never his job. He had enough to worry about at the moment, along with his steady recovery.
"Much more of an inconvenience then you would think," Randall said with a wink. Harlow and Aiden shifted awkwardly at the thought of that. Aiden's cheeks had become beet red. "See? Aiden knows all Ralph thinks about is him." I swiftly whacked him over the head. I'm sure he was more than used to that by now.
"He's not wrong," Moss huffed lightly. "Moving on, we're going to Ashton's first?" I thought for a moment before nodding.
"He knows the situation, they won't be hostile." My gaze moved solely to the members of my pack. "Right, Tempest, Beaumont and Elowen would be the ones heading over there." I took a sharp intake of breath. "No fighting please," there was a very slight beg in my voice.
"I won't if they won't," Tempest smirked.
