Chapter 15 Interrogation

Chapter 15 Interrogation.

Karim's POV

We thought that we had gotten away with it. I had picked Emi up as usual from school and we headed straight back to the mansion. When I say straight back, I mean we took every possible detour that we could. We didn't meet up with Harlow today, it saddened me slightly but I was much happier to hear that it was due to him bringing his mother back home. It felt like one thing was getting back to normal.

It was strange to me, thinking that was something that brought normalness back to our lives. I hadn't met Harlow before his mother became ill. Even though I felt like I've known him for ages. That might just show how little I know about other people in my life.

"Will she be angry?" I asked dryly as we stopped at the end of the driveway. The house looked daunting. It towered over us like it usually did, it was far more obvious how tall and intimidating it really is.

"For what? Going to school and getting an education?" Emi scoffed at me and pulled her back further onto her shoulder. "I don't think so, she does force us to go." I nodded in agreement. She always forced the human life onto us.

"I guess, how'd your exam go?" She groaned as we started to walk as slow as a turtle up the driveway.

"Went alright, I suppose." She mumbled under her breath. She would be hiding her exam as soon as she got home, if she didn't burn it beforehand. "How about yours?" I shook my head with a grin.

"I don't have those yet, dear cousin." I put my arm around her shoulders and we both laughed as we entered the door. We usually made a B-line for our rooms and stayed there the rest of the night but we were interrupted.

"Emerson, Karim. A word?" My aunt stopped us in our tracks. We shared worried looks before turning the corner and walking into one of the few living rooms here. There were two men sitting on the settee, they were part of Travis' pose. "We just wanted to ask you some things."

We nodded but made no move to sit down. It would be easier to run if we were standing up. "Alright." The man on the right shifted uncomfortably. "We're aware that Harlow Forst has returned to school." Emi gripped my hand tightly. "Is this true?"

"Yes." Emis said bluntly. I resisted the urge to flinch. Her hand was getting tighter and I didn't want to cooperate with these people.

"He is in some of your classes too?" The man spoke again, the other one seemed to be there as a source of intimidation, his eyes were as hard as bricks and as cold as ice.

"A few." Emi nodded. Her tone becoming more and more emotionless.

"Did he speak to you?"

"Obviously."

"What did he speak to you about?"

"Science, school, mitochondria, ions, cells, flowers, woodwork, food, music-" She gave a large list of rambles. The two men looked rather annoyed at her words.

"Miss Reilly if you're not going to cooperate-'' The other man said in a much deeper tone.

"I answered the question." She blinked at him innocently. "Continue." The word was sharp. I wondered why I was actually here. I knew that I wouldn't be able to leave without yanking Emi with me.

"Did he mention anything about werewolves?" I held back a sigh. This wasn't really an interrogation to see whether we were on their side, they were trying to get the information that Harlow may have told us.

"No." Emi shook her head. "Werewolves were not mentioned at all." The two men straightened their backs if that were even possible.

"Nothing, nothing at all?" The disbelief was very clear.

"We tried not to talk about it in case there were prying ears." Emi gave a sickly sweet smile, her words dripped with venom. It was an accusation which I couldn't blame her for. They would do something like that, they were that low.

"Emerson." My aunt hissed with a glare. "Just answer the men's questions, please." Her jaw was clenched as she flashed a smile.

"I am." Emi rolled her eyes. "I've answered each one." She turned back to the two men with a raised eyebrow.

"I think that's it for the day." The man who was asking the questions closed the notebook which he was holding. Didn't think there was a time when he actually wrote in it. He stood up and nodded towards us. "You two can go now." We wasted no time in legging it out of there.

"Torture." Emi breathed as we made it to my bedroom.

"Something which will happen to us, probably." I waited by the door and listened through the crack. I could hear mumbling. I shushed Emi and tried to stay as silent as I could, holding my breath.

"She's clearly lying." The other man growled.

"We don't know that." My aunt argued back. "She seemed to be telling the truth."

"That's why there's a werewolf here." The man who was asking the questions said "She's lying. It was pretty obvious." I scoffed lightly and rolled my eyes.

"We have ways to get them to talk." The werewolf said. "It won't hurt too badly."

"You're not hurting my family." My aunt protested. It made my heart warm slightly. At least she still cared for us somewhat. "They answered the questions you asked. Leave them be."

"I'm sorry Mrs.Reilly, you agreed to this." Loud footsteps stomped up the stairs. I stumbled backwards and went in front of Emi protectively. She looked at me confused and scared. The man burst through our door, a fierce look on his face before he turned into his wolf. His clothes shedding around him. He was tall and dark, his eyes a glare locked on ti's prey.

"He won't hurt you." The interrogator said calmly. "If you tell the truth." He spoke slowly and calmly.

"We told you the truth." Emi hid behind me even more. "We didn't talk about werewolves at all. We avoided the topic at all costs." That was when the wolf launched. Out of instinct I shifted as well, fighting him. It surprised my aunt and the interrogator, no doubt they thought I had lost my wolf. We fought for a while before he slashed at my face, right where the acanite had hit. I growled and looked for a way out.

Emi was two steps ahead of me as she was beginning to open my window. I gave her a nod before snapping at the wolf in front of me with my own sharp teeth, he backed off slightly. It gave me enough of an opportunity to leap out of the window. It wasn't a smooth landing but I couldn't focus on that. I felt Emi land behind me. I waited for her to catch up and lead the way. I wanted to be behind her to protect her but I couldn't lead either, blood was blurring my vision. I didn't quite know where we were heading until a familiar scent caught my nose. Harlow.
