Chapter 76 - Teacher's Pet
Elijah hummed as he stood in the kitchen, he'd got up a little earlier to make breakfast for himself and Reid. Soon enough he heard footsteps walking down the stairs.
Elijah smiled as he turned around, both plates in his hands,"Good morning, sleepyhead."
"I didn't sleep that long." He rubbed his neck.
"I know, but I made you breakfast." Elijah hummed, holding out the plate.
"You didn't need to." Reid smiled.
"But I wanted to." He told him,"..You should probably wear a turtleneck today. Or a scarf."
Reid bit his cheek,"You don't hide it well."
"Oops." Elijah chuckled.
"Might wear a scarf, it is cold." He hummed.
"You always look cute with your scarves on." Elijah leaned up, kissing Reid's cheek.
"Down boy." Reid laughed.
"What am I? A dog?" Elijah tilted his head.
Reid hummed and took his plate.
"Good answer." Elijah ruffled his hair.
"It tastes delicious." Reid ate it.
"Thank you." Elijah hummed as he started eating as well.
"What so you think will happen today?"
"We're all going to have a good day at work- Oh, and Morgan will laugh at you." Elijah pointed.
"Why will Morgan laugh at me?" He chuckled.
"Hickeys."
"No, they'll be covered up." He hummed.
"Morgan always knows." Elijah shook his head.
"Thank you for breakfast, Eli." Reid smiled.
"You're welcome, baby." Elijah grinned.
*********************************
"I see you, pretty boy." Derek nudged Reid.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Reid adjusted his scarf.
"Mhm, whatever." Derek smirked.
"Told you he'd laugh." Elijah hummed as he walked past.
"You guys are horrible." Fleur chuckled.
"Says you." Elijah pointed.
"Hey, I show myself loud and proud." Fleur shrugged.
"And we love you for it." Morgan told her.
Fleur hummed as they sat down in the Conference Room,"What have we got?"
"We're heading to a high school in Denver, Colorado." Garcia told her,"Three young boys have been found dead within the last two weeks."
"What's the connection?" Rossi asked.
"Well, they were all fifteen and they all attended the same after school English study group." Garcia told them,"Thomas Sheldon, Oliver Jackson and Peter Sullivan."
"So it could be someone at the school." Morgan shrugged.
"That's what we're thinking, yes." Hotch nodded.
"There's.. Another thing." Garcia shook her head,"All three boys were sexually assaulted before they were killed."
Everyone turned to Garcia.
"We could be looking at a teacher." Fleur pointed.
"Too many sick fucks get to work around kids." Elijah crossed his arms.
"Surely they've done background checks, right?" Emily asked.
"Maybe they don't have a record." JJ suggested,"They could've done something in the past but never been caught."
"And that's how they get by." Reid sighed.
"We need to start working quickly." Hotch nodded,"Wheels up in twenty."
"What school did you go to in Colorado?" Morgan got up, looking at Elijah.
"Uh.. Denver North." Elijah answered.
"Guess we'll find out where we're off to on the jet."
"I suppose so." He nodded.
*********************************
"So who's the teacher of this after school study group? We may need to speak to them." Fleur looked up.
"Well, the English department apparently takes turns supervising but the main teacher in charge is a Mr Craig McWilliams." JJ told them.
"We can definitely speak to him and some of the other students." Emily nodded.
"He'd know them best, since he spent so much time with them." Hotch agreed.
"I can talk to the students?" Fleur suggested.
"You can take Deans and Reid with you."
"Got it." Fleur hummed,"Gal trip."
"I wouldn't say I'm a 'gal'." Reid began.
"Shh..Yes you are." Fleur pointed.
"You're one of us now." Elijah chuckled.
*********************************
"The principle told me Mr McWilliams' office is just down here." Fleur nodded.
"God, this place is just.. It's the same." Elijah looked around, of course it just had to be his old high school.
"Just ignore all the memories." Reid assured Elijah.
"Trust me, I don't remember half of them." Elijah shrugged.
"Guess there's a benefit to head tramua." Fleur joked.
"Thank you, mother." Elijah hummed as he knocked on Mr McWilliams' door.
After a few moments, McWilliams opened the door, "Hello?"
"Mr McWilliams? I'm Agent Deans, this is Agent Howards and that's Doctor Reid. We're with the FBI." Elijah introduced them.
"FBI?" He blinked, "Craig McWilliams." He slowly held his hand out.
Elijah shook his hand and nodded slowly.. Soon realizing why the name 'McWilliams' felt do familiar to him. He let go, although it felt like Craig's hand tried to linger in his.
"Come in, what seems to be the problem?"
"We're investigating the murders of three boys, they all came to your study group." Reid explained as the walked in.
"Oh..Yes, I did hear about them." Craig sighed.
"How well did you know them?" Reid asked.
"Well, whenever it was my turn on the rota to do the after school club I would speak to them. They were very open kids." Craig nodded slowly.
"Did they have any trouble at home? At school?" Elijah tilted his head.
"Distant fathers." Craig remembered,"I believe two were in the military and the other was in jail."
"I see." Elijah nodded,"Did they have many friends?"
"Not really. They all just kinda stuck to themselves." Craig shrugged.
"Were they open with all members of staff? Or just you?" Reid asked.
"Honestly? Just me. Guess I was a good listener." He chuckled.
"I guess so." Elijah nodded slowly,"Well, we'll be around here. Just let us know if you remember anything else about the boys."
"Of course. I'm always here." Craig smiled.
Elijah nodded as the group left his office.
"Well?" Reid asked.
"Well, I don't trust him." Elijah leaned against the wall.
"He did seem..Off." fleur sighed.
"We should keep an eye on him."
"I agree."
"Maybe we should have a look around the school too, we might find something." Reid suggested
"Maybe the boy's lockers?"
"Good idea." Elijah nodded slowly.
"Luckily they were all pretty close." Fleur looked down at her notepad.
"It makes our job a little easier." Reid agreed as they started walking.
"Are you okay?" Fleur looked at Elijah.
"Hm? Of course." He nodded.
"Just being back here is all I'm worried about for you.
"You don't need to be worried about me. I'm fine." Elijah assured her.
"It's our job." Reid shrugged.
"I know, but I can handle-" Elijah stopped when he reached a locker,"Oh come on!"
"What?" Fleur turned.
"This school is so broke that they can't replace one locker. Its been like that since I was a freshman." Elijah pointed at the locker door, 'faggot' scrawled on the front.
"Oh.. Well, this is Oliver Jackson's locker." Fleur sighed.
Elijah brushed his hand against the door,"It was mine."
"So we now know Oliver Jackson was gay." Reid nodded.
"And he was probably bullied for it, knowing this school." Elijah told them.
"Who would you go to? Someone you trusted."
"Maybe your teacher."
"Maybe someone like Mr McWilliams." Fleur shrugged.
Elijah sighed,"Maybe the other boys were being bullied too."
"We should go meet the others." Reid nodded.
"We should."
*********************************
The team had found out that the trio had another friend, Will Chambers. They wanted to speak with them, get to learn more about the boys.
"Hey, Will." Elijah walked into the room where Will was sat.
"I'm not in trouble, right?" Will looked up.
"Of course not." Elijah told him as he sat down,"I just want to ask you about some of your friends, okay?"
"Okay..Yeah."
"You were friends with Thomas, Oliver and Peter, right?"
"Yeah. We were a little squad." He shrugged.
"And did you all go to Mr McWilliams study group?" Elijah asked.
"Yeah.. He's a really nice teacher. One of the best." Will nodded slowly.
"One of the best, huh?" He raised a brow.
"Mhm. He's great." Will leaned back.
"Has he ever acted.. I don't know, weird, around you boys?"
"Weird?"
"Maybe.. He pays special attention to you, touches you where you aren't comfortable." Elijah crossed his arms.
Will looked up,"No, no. Nothing at all like that."
Elijah sighed,"Did your friends ever mention Mr McWilliams doing anything like that?"
Will sighed,"No. He's just.. A really great teacher. He helped us all out when we needed it."
"Some people said you four were being bullied." Elijah nodded slowly,"Do you want to tell me who by?"
"There's a bunch of bullies." Will shook his head,"The main ones being Amanda Issac and her boyfriend, Brandon Lincoln."
"What do they pick on you for?"
"I..I was dating Peter." Will muttered.
"There's nothing wrong with that." Elijah put his hand on Will's shoulder,"But I promise, I will find who killed him.. And your other friends."
"Mr McWilliams would always be a safe place for us to all talk to him. He comforted me when I found out about Peter."
"If.. If you ever need to talk to someone else, you can have my number." Elijah told him,"I understand what it's like.. To be hurt for being yourself."
"You do?"
"I do."
Will nodded slowly,"I better go..I have class."
"Alright." Elijah nodded,"I'll be here, well, probably around."
"Bye Agent Deans."
"Goodbye Will." He waved slightly.
Will gave a small smile before he left the office. Elijah sighed, leaning back in his chair.
"So?" Fleur walked in.
"Well, they were all being bullied by Amanda Issac and Brandon Lincoln and gay." Elijah told her,"Mr McWilliams comforted them, let them talk to him."
"Everything points towards Mr McWilliams."
"It does. I just.. Will's holding back, I can tell." He shook his head.
"Are you sure?" Fleur sighed.
"I'm sure."
"We can bring it up to Hotch?" Fleur suggested.
"Yeah." Elijah nodded,"He needs to know."
"Let's go."
*********************************
Elijah sighed as he walked through the empty hallways. All the students were in class and he and Fleur had just warned Hotch about Mr McWilliams. Walking down the hallway towards him was the principal, Mrs Everson. Maybe if he avoided eye contact and just kept walking, she'd ignore him?
"Ah! Mr Deans." Everson smiled.
"Ma'am." Elijah nodded to her, arms crossed.
"How's your investigation going?"
"We think we're getting somewhere."
"Care to share?" Everson hummed,"You know it has been a while since we caught up."
"Well, we believe these boys were probably killed by a member of your staff." Elijah told her.
"My- My staff? Oh, I can assure you not."
"Mrs Everson, those boys were taken advantage of and killed. You've hired a pedophile."
"Well, not to my knowledge." Everson scoffed,"How would I know?"
"Have you ever noticed anyone getting uncomfortably close with the students? Trying to be near them more than they need to?" Elijah stopped himself,"Why am I trying to explain this to you- After everything you've ignored in the past, why would you pay attention to this?"
"Everything in the past? Mr Deans, what happened to you was a silly little thing."
"I was raped on your premises. And you did nothing."
"Rape is a serious allegation."
"Well, there's no other way to put it." Elijah shook his head.
"Mr Deans, that's enough."
"It's Agent Deans." Elijah snapped back.
"Agent Deans." She sighed.
"When it came to me, you just seemed to.. Ignore everything."
"Agent Deans, if you excuse me..I have a meeting."
"Go on then." Elijah nodded,"I'd rather not speak with you anymore."
Everson sighed and walked off. Elijah shook his head, leaning against the wall.
*********************************
"What do we have on Craig McWilliams?" Fleur asked.
"If I'm being honest? Not much." Garcia shook her head,"He's got no criminal record and he's lived in the area all his life."
"Where did he go to school?"
"Right here."
"Elijah, he's roughly the same age as you, right?" JJ turned,"Maybe you knew each other."
"Yeah.. I mean, we spoke a few times but I wasn't really friends with anyone in high school." Elijah shook his head.
"What was he like?" Emily questioned.
"Popular, I suppose. People liked him, he could talk his way out of anything." He shrugged.
"Do we really think Craig did this?" Rossi asked.
"He was one of the only people these boys trusted to open up to."
"Maybe we should talk to Will again?" Reid suggested.
"I can do that." Elijah walked out.
"Want me to come?" Fleur suggested.
"No, it's alright. You stay here and try to get anything you can on Craig."
"Okay. Be safe." Fleur pointed.
"I will." Elijah nodded,"I promise."
Fleur hummed and turned around. Elijah smiled at her before he began walking through the halls, trying to find Will. Will was at his locker, looking down at a notepad.
"Hey Will." Elijah hummed.
Will jumped, closing the notepad and his locker,"Agent Deans."
"Sorry for scaring you." He chuckled.
"No, no. It's okay." He assured him.
"What's that?" Elijah tilted his head, looking at the notebook.
"Just my notebook." He shook his head.
"For any subject in particular or just notess?" Elijah asked.
"Just notes."
"I see." He nodded,"Well, I just wanted to check up on you. I know these past few days have probably been a struggle."
"Yeah.." Will nodded.
"You alright?"
"Mhm. I'm fine." He rubbed his arm.
Elijah furrowed his brow,"You don't need to lie to me, kid."
"I'm fine." Will shook his head.
"Will."
"Can we.. Can we go somewhere else?"
"Of course." Elijah nodded.
Will hesitated before walking to an empty classroom. Elijah followed Will and closed thr door behind them, to keep things private.
"I.. Mr McWilliams.." Will muttered.
"What did he do?" Elijah asked him.
Will panicked a little, looking around.
"Will, you're safe with me. I promise." Elijah bent down.
"He.. He touched me."
"I'm so sorry." Elijah shook his head.
"I..I don't know what to do- He hurt my friends."
"Just come with me. I can put him away for a long yime."
"No!" He shook his head,"No. I can't tell anyone."
"Will.. I know you're scared, but I can't help you if you don't tell people." Elijah reached out to him.
"Please- My mom will kill me if she knows."
"I won't let her hurt you, I promise."
"This was a mistake." He shook his head.
"No, it wasn't. If you don't help me, he might hurt more kids like you." Elijah told him.
"No, no.." Will held his head.
"Will, please.." Elijah placed a hand on his shoulder,"I've been in your situation before. The difference here is that people will believe you."
"They never do."
"I do- I promise. They will."
"I gotta go." Will stood up and started walking,"Just- Forget what I said."
"Will, I'm going to get you help." Elijah shook his head.
Will inhaled before turning,"You promise?"
"I promise." Elijah nodded.
"Okay..Okay."
"It's all going to be okay."
"I'm sorry." He teared up.
"Hey, it's okay." Elijah held his arms open.
Will hesitated before he slowly hugged Elijah.
"I'm going to take care of this." Elijah promised him,"He'll never hurt you again."
"I..I gotta go class."
"Be careful." Elijah let him go.
"Thank you, Agent Deans."
"You don't need to thank me, Will. It's my job." He smiled.
Will smiled softly and left the room.
*********************************
Elijah had taken a breather outside before he re-entered the school, ready to tell the others about Will's confession. He just knew that Craig killed these boys. If he couldn't get him done with murder, then he could get him with rape. Elijah had confidence that he would be able to finally stop Craig.. That confidence seemed to vanish as soon as he entered their base of operations. Something was wrong.
Fleur slowly looked up,"Elijah.."
"What's wrong?" Elijah asked her.
Fleur looked at the others before walking to a secluded part of the room,"Before gym started earlier..A boy ran to the teacher after finding.."
She stopped, showing Elijah the pictures. Will... Dead. In the changing room, in the same position Craig left Elijah all those years ago.
"Oh god.." Elijah covered his mouth.
"And..There- There's evidence of sexual assault but we won't know for sure until the autopsy is complete."
"I need a minute." Elijah shook his head, his voice breaking.
He'd promised Will that he'd protect him, that everything would be alright.. But Craig had silenced him.
"I know how much Will meant to you." Fleur sighed.
"I'll be fine. I just.. Need a minute."
Fleur kissed Elijah's head and walked out of the room. Elijah leaned against the wall, but he forced himself not to cry. No. He had to stop Craig before he could hurt anyone else.
"So, do we think Craig killed him?" Fleur sighed as she walked back in.
"Well, there's no direct evidence yet but other students reported Will looking nervous throughout the day, especially before gym." Emily told her.
"And what class did he have before gym?"
"English." JJ nodded,"With our top suspect-"
"Oh- Oh, I might have something." Garcia spoke up,"It's a, well, it's a bad something but it might be good for us."
"Do share." Reid walked over.
"Craig McWilliams may not have a criminal record but, back when he was fifteen a group of girls put out a warning in their school newsletter about him that got attention of the newspapers." Garcia began.
"And the newsletter consisted of?"
"..Rape allegations." Garcia sighed,"From another fifteen year old boy."
"Do we know that boys name? Maybe we can speak to him." Rossi suggested.
Garcia stayed quiet as she looked over the article once more,"Ganet."
"Elijah." Reid looked up,"He mentioned ages ago about a boy at school who assaulted him.. Craig."
"Flo, did you leave him alone in that room?" Morgan turned to her.
"He..He wanted a minute." Fleur realised, quickly running back through the room.
But Elijah was gone.
"Merde!" Fleur cursed,"He's gone."
"He'll be looking for Craig." Rossi shook his head,"And we need to find him before he does."
"Let's go." Morgan got up.
*********************************
Elijah wasted no time at all in hurrying off to find Craig. He'd checked the classroom but found no sign of him so he figured he'd be in the next best place.. The changing room.
"Yes, it is a shame. I know you were close, Roman. We'll find out who it was." Craig sighed to the young boy in front of him.
"Craig. Step away from that child." Elijah pointed.
"Mr McWilliams?" Roman looked up.
"Kid. Go." Elijah looked over at him.
"Go, Roman." Craig nodded as the boy ran off.
"Why didn't you stop with me..?" Elijah asked slowly.
"I'm sorry?" Craig tilted his head,"Agent Deans, I don't know what you're on about."
"No, Craig. You know exactly what I'm on about."
Craig then narrowed his eyes,"Elijah..I've tried to be nice."
"Nice? Really?" Elijah scoffed.
"Yes, nice."
"You killed those boys."
"They were going to ruin my reputation."
"It's not that hard not to fuck children." Elijah pointed.
"You don't see yourself in them?" Craig smirked,"See you, you were just the start."
"..So that's it then? They remind you of me?"
"Of course they do. Haven't you noticed? I mean- All these years without you." He scoffed.
"God, you're sick."
"I missed you.. And you missed me too or else you wouldn't have been here."
"I'm here to get justice for those boys." Elijah shook his head.
"I think you're here to see me. I mean, you've came alone... Haven't you?"
"Craig, I have a fiance. I'm not interested." He crossed his arms.
"A fiance? Is it that Doctor?" Craig crossed his arms.
"Yes."
"You could do better."
"Spencer isn't a rapist."
"You wanted what happened to you." Craig walked closer,"You were practically begging."
"I was begging for you to stop.. You were hurting ne." Elijah took a step back.
"Don't overreact now..Everything's better now, hm?"
"No- No, it's not better!"
"Now, now Elijah. Don't start."
"Just turn around." Elijah reached for his handcuffs.
"Handcuffs? Oh, I always knew you were kinky." He smirked.
"Shut up." Elijah walked towards Craig.
Craig raised up his gun,"You're going to leave me, now."
"Craig, put the gun down." Elijah stopped.
"Or what?"
"Come on, you don't want to kill me." Elijah forced a smile,"Where's the fun in that?"
"My fun continues with my students."
"Why settle for them when the real thing is right here?" Elijah asked
"You're too old now, these boys.. They're what I want. I don't want you now."
"But they don't know what you like. They won't play along." Elijah stepped closer to Craig.
"Once I teach them, they will."
"You said it yourself. I liked it, I can do better. Why not prove that?"
Craig licked his lips,"Fine."
Elijah kept on his forced smile as he began to unbutton his shirt. Just.. Keep him distracted.
Craig tilted his head,"Keep going."
Elijah took off his shirt, tossing it to the ground but he hesitated as he reached his trousers. Craig hummed and walked forward but before Elijah could take off his belt he heard a gunshot and Craig held his leg. Elijah looked up, his back against the wall and he saw Fleur, stood with her gun raised.
"Not my brother." Fleur spat, quickly taking off her blazer and giving it to Elijah.
Elijah put on her blazer and looked down at Craig,"Y'know Craig.. If it makes you feel better, I did love you."
"You're a fucking dick." Craig groaned, holding his leg.
"I'm not the rapist." Elijah walked out.
"Oh, don't worry. You won't die from a gunshot like that." Fleur crouched down.
Craig scoffed,"Still hurts, bitch."
Fleur smiled, kicking his leg before she left the room as the medics came in. Elijah was stood outside the room, his arms crossed as he looked away.
"Elijah." Fleur looked at him.
"I was trying to keep him distracted."
"Are you okay?"
"No.. No, I'm not okay." Elijah shook his head,"He hurt those boys because of me."
"It wasn't because of you. He..He had a preference just like a lot of predators do."
"Yeah, and his preference was me."
"His preference was little boys." Fleur sighed.
"That reminded him of me, looked like me, acted like me."
"Elijah." Fleur took his hands,"He went for little boys who were alone. He only started out with you and it escalated."
Elijah looked down,"I didn't stop him, Flo.."
"That doesn't matter. What matters is that we got him now."
Elijah nodded slowly, hugging Fleur.
"No one hurts my big brother." She hummed, hugging back.
Elijah chuckled softly,"Not when you're around."
"Come on." Fleur nodded.
Elijah nodded, rubbing his arms as they headed to meet the others.
"Elijah." Reid quickly ran up to him, hugging him.
Elijah held onto Reid tightly,"Spence.."
"You're okay."
"Yeah.. Yeah, I'm okay."
"Thank god." He kissed his head.
Elijah hid his face in Reid's shoulder. He wanted to tell him what happened but.. He was scared.
"I'm sorry I didn't come with you."
"Don't be." Elijah sighed,"Just.. I want to go home."
"Of course." Reid nodded,"Hotch?"
Hotch nodded,"Go. We can handle things from here."
Reid sighed and took Elijah's hand,"Let's go."
*********************************
"Look, I'm okay. I promise." Elijah assured Rossi over the phone, sat on the edge of his bed.
"I just want to make sure." Rossi sighed as Reid walked in, gently kissing Elijah's shoulder.
Elijah flinched before looking back at Reid, soon relaxing,"Yeah.. I'll see you tomorrow, alright?"
"I'll see you then." He hung up.
"I'm sorry- I didn't want you to feel scared." Reid sighed.
"Hey, I'm okay." Elijah shook his head.
"I don't want you to ever feel like that with me." Reid told him.
"I don't- I promise." Elijah insisted.
Reid nodded and gently took his hand.
Elijah squeezed it,"I told him about us.. How you were nothing alike."
Reid nodded,"Of course. I could..I could never."
"I know you wouldn't." Elijah's voice broke,"You.. You love me."
"I do. I love you more than the stars in the universe."
Elijah pulled Reid closer to him,"You're all I've ever wanted."
"Yeah?" He smiled.
"Mhm." Elijah nodded.
"I love you." Reid hummed.
"I love you too." Elijah smiled before placing his hand on Reid's chest,"Since it's been a bad day-"
"Of course I will read to you."
"Thank you." Elijah rested his hesd on Reid's shoulder.
"What book?"
"Anything."
"Lay back." Reid kissed his head.
"I am." Elijah mumbled.
"No need to be grumpy." Reid chuckled, laying back with Elijah as he grabbed a book from his nightstand.
Elijah sighed and kissed Reid's cheek. Reid smiled and opened the book. Elijah looked up at Reid as he began to Reid. It didn't matter what he was saying.. Just hearing his voice made Elijah feel safe.
