Chapter 58 - Réunion de famille

"How much are you willing to spend on me?" Adelaide smirked at Elijah.

"Honey, I will do my best. But I'm still expected to go get your Uncle books at the end of the week." Elijah smiled softly.

"And hey, if we need to, we go into the bank of dad." Fleur chuckled.

"And since when does dad have money?" Morgan asked.

"Since he loves hanging out with his girls." Fleur hummed.

"Well, you got that part right."

"Well, there's a dance coming up at school." Adelaide looked a few dresses.

"What kind of dance?"

"Just..Homecoming." She shrugged.

"You're gonna be gorgeous, Junebug." Elijah hummed.

"Anyone asked you out yet?" Fleur smiled.

"Not yet." Adelaide shook her hesd,"But.. Maybe soon."

"I hope so." Fleur hummed.

"Can we trust you two to get ice cream alone?" Morgan pointed.

"Of course you can. I'm a responsible adult." Elijah crossed his arms.

Adelaide chuckled, shaking her head.

"I am."

"Sometimes."

"Come on, let's just go get ice cream." He sighed.

Adelaide hummed and skipped to the store. Elijah smiled as he followed after her, hands in his pockets.

"Top three favourite flavours." Adelaide pointed.

"Chocolate, vanilla, coffee." Elijah pointed back.

"Ew coffee."

"I need the caffeine, darling."

"Mine are.. Cookies and cream, strawberry and mango."

"Ooh, those are good choices." Elijah nodded.

"Thank you." Adelaide walked into the store.

"What do you want?" Elijah turned to her.

"Hm..Cookies and cream."

"Got it." Elijah hummed, walking up to the front.

"How can I help you?" The lady asked.

"I'd like two ice creams, please. One cookies and cream and one chocolate."

"Coming right up." She walked off.

"Agent Deans?" A man asked from behind him.

"Yes?" Elijah turned slowly.

"It's- Wow. I never thought I'd find you here."

"Who, uh.. Who are you?" Elijah blinked.

"It's Matthew. Matthew Lambert?" He tilted his head.

Elijah shook his head. He was trying and Matthew seemed familiar but.. He couldn't remember.

"My uncle has some memory issues, sorry." Adelaide walked over.

"Oh, right- Cosette. My sister." He pointed at Elijah to try and get him to remember.

"No, I don't know you.. Sorry." Elijah put his arm around Adelaide.

"You came to my parents house in 2008." Matthew sighed.

"I'm trying my best here."

"God, what's her name now?" Matthew clicked his fingers,"Fleur!"

"Fleur- Fleur. Shit. Matthew." Elijah blinked.

"Uncle Eli?" Adelaide turned to him.

"Yeah, hun?" Elijah looked down at her.

"Who- Why does he say he knows mom?"

"Well sweetheart.. He's your mum's brother." Elijah admitted.

"Wait, Adelaide?" Matthew turned to her.

"Yeah.. I'm Adelaide." She nodded slowly.

"Addy, I'm your uncle. Uncle Matthew."

"Only my family and friends get to call me Addy." Adelaide took Elijah's hand.

"I am your family. I'm your uncle."

"Are you?" Adelaide tilted her head.

"You- She doesn't remember me?" Matthew asked,"Where's your mother?"

"I'm not telling you." Elijah shook his head.

"What? I can't see my sister?"

"No."

"I've travelled all this way though."

"Well, you can go home now. We just want to have our ice cream."

"I can't just go back to France, I'm going to see my sister."

"She probably doesn't want to see you. If she did, she would've visited." Elijah crossed his arms.

"I'm sure she's been busy with work." He waved him off.

"I know Fleur. You knew Cosette." Elijah shook his head,"Things have changed."

"Let's just go." Adelaide sighed.

Elijah nodded, paying for their ice creams and walking out.

"Wait-"

"Nope, piss off." Elijah kept walking.

"Just arrest him." Adelaide joked as they walked.

"But then I'd need to spend even more time with him." Elijah shook his head,"..And I suppose I don't exactly have probable cause."

Eventually they lost him, Adelaide looking behind her every so often,"So where's mum?"

"That.. Is a very good question, sunshine." Elijah looked around.

"They were last at Urban Outfitters."

"You think they'll still be there?"

"Knowing mum? Yes."

"Fair point. Let's head off." He nodded.

Once they got there, they saw Morgan and Fleur talking, coffees in their hands.

"Fleur!" Elijah smiled when he saw her.

"Eli. How was ice cream?" Fleur hummed, handing him a coffee.

"Ice cream was, uh, it was good." Elijah took his coffee,"Oh, thanks."

"Do I have another uncle?" Adelaide asked.

"Woah, what's with that question?" Morgan tilted his head.

"Some weirdo came up to us saying he was mom's brother."

"It was Matthew." Elijah nodded slowly.

"..Matthew." Fleur nodded,"Right, Addy. We're going to head back to the car, walk ahead please?"

"Right.. Alright." Adelaide looked back at them before she started walking.

"Matthew is here?" Fleur looked at Elijah.

"Yeah. He approached us in the ice cream store, I didn't recognize him at first.." Elijah shook his head.

"Why is he here- He saw Addy?"

Elijah sighed,"He came to see you. I told him you wouldn't want to. He's a persistent little bugger."

"Well he doesn't know where I live so..Let's just go before he sees me."

"I think we'll be okay, we lost him all the way back there." He nodded as they started to leave.

"Good. Would you like to come back to ours?" Morgan asked.

"Definitely."

*********************************

"Right. I think Elijah should make dinner." Morgan hummed.

"It's only fair." Elijah agreed.

"Are you sure?" Fleur asked.

"Honey, I am always sure."

"Go right ahead." Fleur chuckled.

Elijah smiled as he headed towards the kitchen,"Any preferences?"

"Something crunchy."

"I'll see what I can do."

"Thank you." Fleur hummed,"Addy, go clean your room, please."

"Of course." Addy hummed, heading off to her room.

"So how's Spencer?" Morgan asked Elijah.

"He's doing well." Elijah smiled,"He wanted to stay home today since Horatio's not well."

"Aw, poor kitty." Fleur sighed.

"He'll be alright." Elijah assured her,"It's nothing serious."

"Good." She nodded as there was knock on the door,"I'll get it."

When she opened the door, there was a man. Vaguely familiar.

"It's- Well, it's really you."

"Matthew." Fleur stood up straight.

"Cos- Fleur."

"Did you follow us home?" Fleur raised a brow.

Matthew sighed,"Yes, but Agent Deans wouldn't listen to me."

"That's creepy, Matt. You can't just not see me for years and then show up at my house."

"But I did. I'm here.. I missed you."

"You missed me?" She tilted her head,"If you missed me you wouldn't have done what you did."

"..I don't know what you're talking about."

"No? Sixteen, maybe fifteen years ago?"

Matthew shook his head,"Listen, I'm sorry-"

"Désolé, ça ne suffit pas." Fleur went to close the door.

"Fleur, please." Matthew held the door,"I never stopped thinking of you, either of you."

"You knew and you did nothing! You don't get to think about us. I'm lucky I even have my daughter."

"Who would've believed me. Nobody." Matthew shook his head.

"You still could've told someone. You could've stopped being friends with Terry, did you stop? No."

"Fleur, please.. All I want is a chance."

"A chance? For what?"

"To see Addy and you.. Be in her life."

"Do you think you deserve to be in her life?" Fleur scoffed.

"I want to be. I've changed." Matthew told her.

"How have you changed?" Fleur asked, looking back to make sure Adelaide was still in her room.

"I'm- I cut contact with all those guys, and mom and dad." Matthew crossed his arms,"I want to be a good person."

"How do I know you're telling the truth?"

"What can I do to prove it to you?"

"Just..Go. Go for now."

"You.. Want me to go?"

"Je te parlerai quand je me serai calmé. Je passe du temps avec ma famille." Fleur pointed.

"But I'm your family too." Matthew sighed.

"You were Cosette's brother..Not mine." She closed the door on him.

"I'm so proud of you!" Elijah walked through, clapping his hands.

"He followed us here." Fleur sighed.

"Stalker much?" He crossed his arms.

"How much did you hear?" Fleur asked.

"Now I wasn't eavesdropping... But if I see him again, I'm going to shove this spoon so far up his arse-" Elijah held up a spoon.

"Elijah." Morgan cleared his throat.

"What? You heard what he did too."

"Oh I know. But I'm keeping my anger until he does something wrong."

"Well, I'm still not happy." Elijah crossed his arms.

"Well, he's away for now." Fleur assured him.

"If he comes back, just let me know."

"Trust me, you'll know."

Elijah sighed,"Come on, dinner's nearly done."

"What did you make?"

"You said crunchy so.. I made some crispy, cheesy potatoes."

"Perfect." Fleur smiled.

"Can someone get Addy?" Elijah asked.

"Addy, dinner!" Morgan called on her.

"Coming, papa." Adelaide hummed as she hurried in.

"Chef Elijah made cheesy potatoes."

"Really? I think they'll be really good, Uncle Jah." Adelaide smiled.

"Maybe if he wasn't an Agent he could be a chef." Fleur pointed.

"You know exactly what I'd be if I wasn't an Agent." Elijah shrugged.

"A pole dancer." Morgan chuckled.

"And I'd be a great one." Elijah pointed,"I mean, I practice all the time. Well, when I'm not working."

"Wait what?" Fleur blinked.

"Yeah. I swear I've mentioned it before."

"I thought you were joking!"

"Wh- No!"

"Oh my god." Fleur gasped.

"What did you think I did to work out?" Elijah asked.

"I don't know!"

"Look. Come over to my place at some point, I'll show you some things." Elijah told her.

"Can I try?" Adelaide looked up.

"Of course you can."

"Maybe- Maybe wait till you're a bit older." Morgan pointed.

"How come? There's nothing wrong with it."

"Eli, I love you kid, but I don't want to be watching my daughter pole dance." He chuckled.

"It's art, Morgan. But I'll teach you when you're older."

"Good." Adelaide hummed.

"Still haven't told Spencer yet though." Elijah nodded.

"He doesn't know either?" Morgan raised a brow.

"Well, I haven't told him and I don't think he's found the pole yet." He shrugged.

"You have one in your house?" Adelaide gasped.

"Well, yeah. How else am I supposed to practice when I'm always on call?"

"Can I come over?" She whispered.

Elijah smiled,"Would I ever say no to you?"

"No." Adelaide chuckled.

"Then that's your answer."

"Good." She nodded.

"Okay, enough." Fleur pointed with a smile,"Eat."

"I hope you like it."

"Oh I will." Morgan nodded.

"We know you will." Addy chuckled.

*********************************

"Hello hello." Ruth smiled as she walked into the apartment.

"Granny, you're here." Adelaide smiled.

"Of course I'm here." Ruth hugged her.

"Oh, Mama is in the kitchen. She said she wanted to talk to you and GG." Adelaide pointed.

"Thanks pumpkin." Gail hummed as she walked in.

"You're welcome." She nodded, going to sit on the couch.

"Mama's." Fleur smiled as they walked through.

"Oh, we've missed you, baby." Ruth hugged her.

"Mama. How's home?"

"Home is good, but there's been nothing interesting going on recently."

"Well, you know I always have stories." Fleur chuckled.

"And Addy said you wanted to talk with us?" Gail crossed her arms.

"Oh..Yeah." Fleur sighed,"So- You know how I had a brother? Matthew?"

"Mhm, what about him?"

"He..He showed up."

"He showed up?" Ruth blinked,"How did he know where you were?"

"He found Eli and Addy at the mall, then followed us here." She sighed.

"Stalker much?" Gail scoffed.

"I..I don't know what to do. He wants to be apart of our lives again."

"And what did you tell him?"

"To leave." Fleur leaned against the cupboard.

"As you should." Gail nodded.

"What do I do?" Fleur held her head,"Usually I can tell people's intentions but with Matthew- I don't know."

"Honey, whatever you choose to do, we will support you." Ruth assured her,"Having Matthew in your life or not is your decision."

"If I do let him back in, it'll take years before I even trust him."

"And if you don't, that's perfectly okay." Gail nodded.

"What do I do?" Fleur groaned and held her head.

"Trust yourself." Ruth put a hand on her shoulder.

Fleur looked at her, nodding slowly.

"Just do whatever you think is right for you and your family."

Fleur sighed,"Thank you."

"We're always here for you, hun." She smiled.

"I love you two, so much."

"And we love you." Gail chuckled.

"Eli's coming over later." Fleur told them.

"Oh, I love Elijah." Ruth hummed.

"Don't you mom?" Fleur turned to Gail.

"Yes, yes, I like the kid." Gail sighed.

"And Derek."

"And Derek." She agreed.

Fleur smiled and kissed her cheek.

"Now, let's go sit down and relax." Ruth nodded,"We're going to gave a nice evening together."

"I made cookies."

"You know we love cookies." Gail shook her head with a smile.

"I learned from the best."

"Oh, that reminds me!" Ruth turned,"I've found a new cheesecake recipe that I just have to show you."

"I'll make sure I'll put it to good use."

"You'll love it, trust me." She hummed.

*********************************

"He's coming today." Fleur tapped her feet.

"Are you ready?" Morgan asked.

"No." Fleur admitted.

"I'll be right here with you, okay?" Morgan assured her.

"Promise?"

"I promise, Flo."

Fleur nodded slowly, taking his hand. Morgan kissed her hand, holding it tightly. That's when Matthew walked out of the lift, looking around.

"Matthew." Morgan called him over, squeezing Fleur's hand.

"Derek, Fleur." Matthew nodded, walking over.

"It's nice to see you."

"Yeah, nice headquarters, eh?" Matthew looked around.

"Yeah." Morgan nodded slowly.

"Through here." Fleur walked through to the conference room.

Matthew nodded, following the pair into the room.

"Speak then." Fleur sat down.

"Fleur, I want to prove to you that I've changed." Matthew sat down across from her.

"How?"

"Anything- Just tell me what I need to do."

"Prove to me you've cut ties with Terry."

"Here." Matthew handed over his phone.

Fleur looked through his phone,"What, a phone call to the jail? You could've told him anything."

"I promise, I told him I wasn't going to be his friend.. All the other guys are gone too."

"All of them?"

"All of them."

"Matthew, you realise it's going to take a lot for me to trust you again. For me to allow you to even go near Adelaide."

Matthew sighed,"I know."

"Do Hayden and Felix know you're here?" Fleur raised a brow.

"No. I told you before, I'm not in contact with either of them anymore." Matthew shook his head.

Fleur sighed,"Okay."

"Are you going to give me a chance?"

"You get one chance." Fleur pointed.

"Thank you." Matthew smiled.

"But if you fuck it up, I swear to God." Fleur shook her head.

"I won't, I promise."

Fleur sighed,"This is Derek, my boyfriend. Formally meeting."

"Derek." Matthew nodded, holding out his hand,"You guys won't regret this."

Derek narrowed his eyes before he shook his hand. Matthew gave him a smile as they shook hands. Derek gave it a small squeeze before he let go.

"Both of you, thank you."

"Don't make me regret it." Morgan warned.

"I won't." Matthew promised.
