Chapter 29 - The Doves
"I feel like Marie's lonley." Fleur petted Marie, laying in bed.
"You want another cat?" Morgan raised a brow.
"Another pet." Fleur shrugged.
"Well, I've always wanted a dog but after we got Marie, I wasn't sure."
"Have me and Elijah coverted you to cats?" Fleur laughed.
"I can like both." Morgan pointed,"I just don't want them to constantly fight."
"It just depends how well they get along. Marie's quite calm." Fleur nodded.
"She also likes a lot of attention."
"Just like her mama." Fleur smiled.
Morgan kissed her forehead,"I suppose so."
"So I was thinking.." Fleur looked up at him, going to speak before their phones buzzed.
"Let me guess, work?" Morgan sighed as he reached for his phone.
"I wanted one day to relax." Fleur groaned.
"We never learn." Morgan shook his head.
"It's all I ask." Fleur kissed Marie's head,"You're such a pretty kitty."
Marie chirped, stretching her paws forward
"Yes you are.. Tell you what, mama and papa will bring you home the nicest treaties. Hm?"
Marie rolled over, meowing as she looked up at Fleur.
"I love you pretty girl." Fleur hummed,"We'll be back soon."
"And then you'll get all the cuddles you want." Morgan added as he stood up.
"He's right." Fleur placed Marie down and grabbed her shoes.
Marie rubbed against Morgan, standing on his shoes as he tried to tie them.
"I'm sorry Marie, but we gotta work." Morgan chuckled.
Marie looked up at him, still stood on his shoes.
Morgan gave her a small stroke, moving her to the side,"You get loads of attention."
Marie chirped and walked off, sitting in the corner.
"You ready?" Fleur put her beret on.
"I am, chérie." Morgan hummed.
"Oh? Is that some French I hear?" Fleur walked to the door
"I'm learning." Morgan nodded.

"What's so important that you called us in so late?" Emily walked into the Conference Room.
"Is it a bad case?" Elijah asked.
"We thought we closed it years ago, but unfortunately not." Hotch sighed.
"Well, what is it? Morgan raised a brow.
"Over the last six months, a town in France has had children show up dead. They were killed in different ways so they didn't believe it was connected until.." Garcia showed pictures of the children's ankles, tattoos of a dove on them.
"France? Why are we tackling a French case?" Rossi asked.
"The FBI shut down a large sex trafficking ring called The Doves, about twelve years ago. We thought that was the end, however it seems that they're still going." Hotch pointed.
"They travelled all across Europe and kidnapped young children, mostly girls around the age of eight and we caught them in America all those years ago." JJ added
"Where in France were the children?" Fleur spoke.
"Just outside of Versailles." Hotch answered.
"So- What do they want us to do?" Fleur looked down at the file.
"Try and catch these assholes for good, I'd assume." Elijah crossed his arms.
"Who did they capture the first time? There must be a bigger mastermind behind the group." Morgan sighed.
"A man called Peter Ryan, although at the time he went by Terry." Hotch told him,"He was only the right-hand man, though."
"So there's still the leader. Do we have any leads?" Emily tilted her head.
"Not many, that's why Detective Harrison has asked us to come back." JJ explained,"He worked the original case, and has been working it ever since."
"I'll go call the jet." Fleur stood up, leaving the room as she took off her beret.
Elijah got up from his seat and followed after Fleur, something wasn't right. Fleur had called the jet, putting her phone down as she looked out the window.
"Est-ce que tu vas bien, chérie?" Elijah asked as he walked up to her.
Fleur looked towards Elijah,"How long did it take you to remember that?" She chuckled.
"I've been practicing." Elijah hummed.
"It's perfect." Fleur nodded.
"Now, will you answer my question?"
"I'm fine it's just.. Those cases were so close to home." Fleur shook her head.
"Hey, I'm always here to talk about stuff that's bothering to." Elijah rubbed her back.
"I know, and i love you for that." Fleur hummed.
"Je t'aime aussi." Elijah winked.
Fleur kissed his cheek,"See you on the plane."
"You bet I will." Elijah nodded.
*********************************
"That was my school before I was homeschooled." Fleur smiled, pointing to the primary school as they parked.
"Aw, it looks so cute." Emily hummed.
"I only went for a few years." Fleur shrugged as they walked into the station.
"Ooh, colours." Elijah looked around.
"The French are known for their bright colour palates, it's one of their greatest prides." Reid explained.
"Make sure he stays focused on this case." Rossi nudged Reid, glancing at Elijah.
"Yes sir." Reid saluted.
"Monsieur Harrison." Fleur smiled.
"Fleur." Harrison chuckled as he hugged her.
"Wow, you have not changed." Fleur hummed.
"Of course not, I'm still the same me I was all those years ago." Harrison sighed,"Older, but still me."
"You know each other?" Rossi blinked.
"Fleur here was in trouble with the police when she was younger." Harrison nodded.
"Was not, he's lying." Fleur turned to the others with a hum.
"Oh, am I?" Harrison crossed his arms.
"Anyway, the case." Fleur clapped.
"Yes, I've asked my officers to set you up in a room down the hall. It's got all the evidence we've compiled over the years." Harrison explained, leading them down the hallway.
"Thank you Harrison." Hotch nodded,"So what do you know?"
"Well, we know these guys have been in operations for decades." Harrison shook his head as they entered the room,"Although there is one name that keeps popping up."
"Who?" Rossi crossed his arms.
"Pierre Simmons." Harrison pointed to a picture of a man on the board,"We believe he's behind this group, but he's been impossible to track."
Fleur's head popped up at the mention of Simmons... All of the memories flooding back as she grabbed some of her hair and began playing with it to calm her down.
"Hey, you alright?" Morgan turned to her
"I'm fine. I'm gonna go grab some old files, see if I can help there." Fleur raised from her seat, walking off.
"She was.. Close to one of the girls we belive was killed. Camille, I think her name was." Harrison told them.
"It will be hard for her, I understand it." Emily sighed,"Monsieur, do you have any witnesses? Either from one of the girls you saved or.. Maybe even Peter Ryan."
"Peter has been.. Very unhelpful. He refuses to give over any names of others involved." Harrison picked up a file,"But when we found him last time, he had a girl with him."
"Which was?" JJ tilted her head.
"I'm not sure where she is now, but her name was Cosette. Cosette Lambert."
"Well, we've got a name. Should we call Garcia?" Elijah took out his phone.
"Garcia can work her magic." Reid nodded.
Elijah dialed her,"Darling, I have a request."
"Anything you want, teacake." Garcia hummed.
"Can you find me anything on a Cosette Lambert?" He asked.
"Cosette Lambert.. Honestly? There's not much, we lose anything about her after the age of seven, other than when she was found with a Peter Ryan. She was taken by social services, changed her name I assume."
"What about her parents? Anything on them?" Elijah raised a brow.
"We have Hayden and Felix Lambert. There's also a brother, Matthew, who's in his mid thirties." Garcia nodded.
"They close by us?"
"Very. Sending the address to you know." Garcia hummed.
"Thank you." Elijah hummed as he hung up,"Who wants to come see Cosette's family with me?"
"I'll go." Morgan stood up as Fleur walked in,"Flo?"
"I'm gonna stay here.. See if I can help." Fleur shook her head.
"You sure?" Elijah asked.
"Mhm." Fleur hummed.
"Well Morgan, let's pay the Lamberts a visit."
*********************************
"House looks well kept.. That's a good sign." Morgan looked around.
"And the lights are on, car in the drive. I'd say they're home." Elijah nodded as he knocked on the door.
"It's all you. I still only know like.. Three words in French." Morgan patted his back as the door opened.
"Bonjour?" A woman answered.
"Mes excuses, Madame, mais nous sommes avec le FBI. Nous devons vous poser, à vous et à votre famille, quelques questions." Elijah explained, he only knew a few phrases in French.
"FBI?" The woman shook her head.
"Yes, we want to ask about Cosette. The men that took her are operating and we need to know what you know." Elijah nodded.
"Cosete? My daughter is long gone. But.. Come in." Hayden held the door open.
"Merci." Elijah nodded to her as he and Morgan walked in.
"I know English, my son taught me." Hayden hummed while a boy, maybe around Morgan's age walked down the stairs.
"Ah, you must be Matthew." Morgan turned to him.
"Yes, what's this about? I overheard FBI? Is Cossete okay?" Matthew walked up.
"Well, there's no record of her anywhere after she was taken." Elijah crossed his arms,"And The Doves are in operation, we just need you to answer some questions."
"Can we.. Go into the other room?" Matthew gestured to the kitchen.
"Of course we can." Morgan nodded, looking at the pictures on the mantle.
Mostly it was pictures of Matthew and his achievements. There was only one of Cosette. A small brunette with bangs, in a white dress with a flower crown.
Elijah picked up the photograph,"Is this Cosette?"
"Oui, she was living with a friend when that was taken." Hayden hummed.
"How old was she?"
"Tweleve."
"I see." Elijah nodded slowly as he put the picture back, he thought Cosette wasn't rescued until she was seventeen.
"Elijah." Morgan nodded for him to come to the kitchen.
"Oh- Right." Elijah walked into the kitchen with Morgan and Matthew.
"You said the Doves are back up and running?" Matthew crossed his arms.
"Well, we don't think they ever truly stopped." Morgan shook his head,"Just dipped under the radar when Peter was caught."
"It's best you know this then." Matthew sighed,"Yes, my sister was kidnapped but, it was planned. My parents organised it."
"Now that. That I was not expecting." Elijah blinked,"And I thought my parents were bad."
"They said they needed the money, but in all honesty? They just.. Never wanted another child. I was the golden child, through no choice of mine."
"So.. They sold her into trafficking instead of, I don't know, putting her up for adoption?" Morgan asked.
"Exactly." Matthew sighed.
"Have you got anything else for us?" Elijah raised a brow.
"She was found in Florida.. Maybe try looking there. And if you find her? Please, please let me know."
"We will, thank you for your helo." Morgan sighed.
"Anything." Matthew nodded.
Elijah took out his phone and called Garcia as he left the kitchen.
"Captian, my scrumptious captain, what can I do?" Garcia answered.
"I need you to look into adoption records for me." Elijah told her,"Seventeen year old girls, Florida, 1996."
Garcia typed for a few seconds,"Anything else?"
"European girls? If we're going through looks then brunettes with brown eyes."
"Okay.. We have Sonia Arden, Linda Armstrong.. Oh! Cosette Lambert."
"Can you tell me who adopted her?" Elijah asked as he walked outside.
"Ruth and Gail Howards. Aw, they look so sweet." Garcia smiled.
"I'll.. Call you back." Elijah nodded slowly as he hung up.
"Oh- Okay." Garcia blinked.
"Morgan- We need to get back to the station." Elijah called on him as he began pacing.
"Yeah, I'm coming." Morgan walked out,"Woah, what's going on?"
"It's Fleur."
"What's wrong with Fleur? Is she okay?"
"Fleur is Cosette." Elijah sighed.
"You.. What?" Morgan blinked.
"I asked Garcia to look at adoption records for roughly when Cosette was found. She was adopted by a Ruth and Gail Howards in Florida." Elijah explained.
"That's.. Oh my god. We gotta go." Morgan ran to the car.
"I know." Elijah nodded, running after him.
*********************************
Fleur sat in the interview room, Elijah was right when he said it was weird being on the other side of the table.
"I feel like shit." Elijah sighed as he looked at her.
"What did you find out at the Lambert household?" Hotch turned to the boys.
"Matthew told us that his parents sold her into the ring, they never wanted her." Morgan shook his head.
"No wonder she wouldn't want to go there." JJ sighed.
"If Fleur is Cosette then she was taken from the ages of seven until seventeen." Emily crossed her arms,"She'll have a trauma bond with Peter, she probably knows things."
"We're going to need to tread carefully, we don't want her to freak." Rossi mentioned.
"Morgan, are you up to it? She probably trusts you the most out of everyone." Elijah turned to him.
"If you'd like, you can come in too." Morgan nodded.
"I would."
"Remember, be as gentle with this as you can." Hotch told them.
"Yes sir." Morgan nodded, walking into the office and sat down.
"Why am I at this side of the interview room?" Fleur sighed.
"Well, we need to ask you about Peter." Elijah told her.
"Peter Ryan? I don't know anything more than you guys do." Fleur shrugged.
"Fleur, it's okay." Morgan gently took her hand,"We know."
"Know what?" Fleur looked down at her hand.
"That.. You were Cosette." Elijah sighed.
Fleur swallowed,"Cosette is gone."
"And so is Elijah Ganet." Elijah shook his head,"Je ne suis pas en colère, aucun de nous ne l'est. Nous voulons juste vous aider et arrêter ces gars pour de bon. S'il te plaît?"
"What do you want to know?"
"Were there any places that he liked.. Taking you?" Morgan asked.
"Warehouses.. That's where he kept us." Fleur looked down,"..I was special though."
"Special?" Elijah raised a brow.
"He favoured me." Fleur sighed.
"Are there any things that stick out to you? A smell?" Morgan tried.
"Fabric. I don't know exactly what type though."
"Okay, so maybe a rundown fabric store."
"Is there anything else, darling?" Elijah asked.
"There might be something thar might be useful." Fleur bit her cheek,"Pierre, he has a child."
"A child..?" Elijah blinked.
"Her name is Adelaide." Fleur looked up,"Addy."
"I'm proud of you, Flo." Morgan gently squeezed her hand.
Fleur smiled softly,"I want the Doves to be finished, once and for all."
"And with your help, we will finish them." Elijah told her.
Fleur nodded, turning to Morgan,"..Do you still love me?"
"Of course I still love you." Morgan kissed her hand,"You were a victim, none of what happened was your fault."
"But I'm dirty.. Used."
"No- Flo, don't say that about yourself." Morgan shook his head,"I love you, you hear me? I still love you."
Fleur nodded slowly,"I love you too."
"Would you two like a moment alone?" Elijah asked.
Fleur took Elijah's hand,"You boys are the only thing I need." She hummed.
Elijah smiled softly at her as he stroked her hair,"You're safe now. I'll make sure of it."
"We'll be back in a second." Morgan hummed, squeezing her hand as the boys walked out of the room.
"Have you guys got anything?" Elijah asked, closing the door.
"There's nothing on an Adelaide Simmons. Or Lambert. If Adelaide is real then there's nothing on her.. That's if she's alive." JJ sighed.
"Well, I wouldn't think Pierre would take his daughter to hospital, even to have her birthed." Morgan shook her head,"It would be too risky for him."
"So how do we find him?" Hotch crossed his arms.
"There must be something." Elijah sighed.
"Did anyone else see.. How she reacted when she spoke about Adelaide?" Emily asked.
"The way her face lit up? Yes." Reid nodded,"I've.. Got a bit of a theory going."
"Go on." Rossi turned.
"Well, there is significant evidence pointing towards Fleur and Pierre having a trauma bond. She was kept for roughly a decade and was one of his favourites." Reid explained,"What if.. Adelaide is Fleur's daughter?"
"Fleur would've said.. Right?" Morgan turned.
"I don't think she would've.." Elijah shook his head.
Morgan hesitated before he walked back in,"Flo?"
"Hm? Can I get out now?" Fleur looked up.
"I have one last question, okay?"
"Yeah, whatever needs to be done."
"I need you to be honest with me." Morgan told her as be sat down,"Is Adelaide your daughter?"
Fleur froze for a second, blinking as she looked down,"I.."
"It's okay, you can tell me."
"She's.. She was my baby." Fleur shook her head,"He took her from me."
"Hey- Hey, it's okay." Morgan held her cheek.
"What if she's gone? What if he killed her?" Fleur panicked.
"But what if she's alive?" Morgan tried to comfort her.
"He told me if I ever escaped, he'd kill her."
"He was probably just trying to scare you." Morgan shook his head,"He's sick.. But I don't think he'd kill his own daughter."
"I want to kill him." Fleur looked up.
"Trust me, we all do. We're going to find him." Morgan assured her.
*********************************
"We all ready to go in?" Hotch put his FBI vest on.
"Oh yeah." Elijah nodded, drawing his weapon.
"I'll go ahead. Do not hurt the children." Fleur ran off.
"Do I look like someone who shoots kids?" Elijah called after her.
"FBI!" Morgan shouted, kicking down the door.
By the door were two children holding onto each other, no more than ten years old.
"Hé, ça va. Nous sommes là pour vous aider. Où est Mr Simmons?" Fleur bent down.
"Il est dans la pièce sombre." The young girl whispered.
Fleur nodded,"Go with this nice woman." She pointed to JJ.
The children nodded and walked over to JJ who lead them out of the building.
"Third floor." Fleur looked around.
"There." Morgan nodded to the stairs.
Fleur quickly sped off, running up the stairs.
"Hey- Wait for us." Morgan ran after her.
"I've got down here." Elijah assured them as he ran off.
Fleur had managed to get upstairs to the third floor, running into the room. Pierre was stood there with a girl who looked around twelve years old, a gun aimed at her head.
"Put the gun down, Pierre." Fleur pointed her gun at him.
"Not a chance." He shook his head.
"It's over. Your games won't be played anymore." Fleur shook her head.
"Aw, well that's no fun." Pierre purred as he stroked the girl's hair.
"Let the girl go.. She doesn't deserve this, none of them do."
"Veux-tu vraiment me quitter, Adélaïde? Quitter papa?" Pierre looked over at the girl.
Adelaide looked up at Pierre,"Non, papa."
"Adelaide?" Fleur took a step forward, her eyes lighting up.
"Oh, now I get it." Pierre nodded slowly,"Cosette. Ma chérie, tu es revenue vers moi."
"Cosette n'est plus qui je suis. Je suis le contraire de ce que tu m'as fait. À partir d'aujourd'hui, vous ne ferez plus de mal à des enfants innocents." Fleur spat.
"Tu ne me fais pas peur, Cosette." Pierre cocked his gun,"Fais ton pire."
Fleur swallowed. If that really was Addy, she couldn't risk her dying.. Not when she was so close.
Morgan then ran into the room, quickly aiming his gun,"Pierre Simmons, put the gun down."
"I've been through this, Agent. I'm not leaving this place alive. It's your decision whether little Addy does or doesn't." Pierre shook his head.
"She's not apart of this." Morgan warned.
"Oh, yes she is. She's my child." Pierre turned to Fleur,"Notre enfant."
"Mine." Fleur fired her gun at Pierre.
Pierre fell to the ground, releasing Adelaide and dropping his gun.
"Addy." Fleur quickly ran to her, holding her in her arms.
Adelaide began to cry, holding onto Fleur tightly.
"C'est bon, tu es en sécurité maintenant." Fleur whispered.
*********************************
"Right, who wants to do this?" Rossi asked as they looked at Adelaide in the interview room.
"I will." Fleur raised her hand.
"Family can't interview family." Hotch shook his head.
"What about Emily, you're good with kids." Elijah suggested.
"I suppose so." Emily nodded.
"I mean, I'm not good with kids."
"You're great with kids." Fleur nudged him.
"You sure?" Elijah raised a brow.
Fleur nodded,"Go."
"If you're so sure." Elijah walked into the room slowly.
Emily walked in, closing the door.
"I'm not in trouble, right?" Adelaide looked up.
"Of course not." Emily assured her,"You're a victim here."
"Papa said I would be in trouble."
"Your papa.. Was a very bad man and he hurt a lot of people." Elijah shook his head,"Did he ever hurt you?"
Adelaide looked around, nodding slightly,"I.. It's okay. That's how papas show love."
Emily sighed softly,"I'm sorry, sweetie. He wasn't... Loving you, he was... He was a sick man who took advantage of you."
Adelaide bit her cheek,"I'm sorry."
"No, it's not your fault." Elijah assured her.
"Where will I go?" Adelaide looked up.
"Well, it's a little complicated but we'll make sure you're safe." Emily told her.
"Is Mama alright?"
"She is now." Elijah nodded.
Adelaide nodded slowly.
*********************************
"It's quiet." Elijah commented, stood in the kitchen.
Adelaide walked up to Elijah,"Mama said that you're my uncle."
"I am, honey." Elijah smiled at her,"Do you need something?"
"Can I call you Uncle Jah?"
"Of course you can."
"You're my only uncle, right?"
"Hm, I think so." Elijah nodded,"I don't think your mother has any other siblings."
"Good. I like you." Adelaide smiled.
"Aw, I like you too." Elijah smiled back.
"Are we at the right place?" An older woman, maybe around fifty walked into the kitchen.
"That depends, darling. Who are you here for?" Elijah turned to her.
"Fleur Howards?"
"Oh, Mrs Howards- Fleur!" Elijah turned, calling out for her.
"Yeah? Oh! Mama!" Fleur ran out, hugging her mother.
"Oh, you need to come around more." She hugged Fleur back.
"Mama, I missed you." Fleur smiled.
"I missed you too." Ruth smiled back as she pulled away,"And who's this little thing?"
"This is Addy.. My daughter." Fleur nodded.
"Oh, I have a granddaughter?" Ruth gasped.
"You do." Fleur chuckled.
"She's adorable."
"And this is Elijah, my best friend." Fleur pointed to Elijah.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Mrs Howards." Elijah smiled at her.
"So you're the one I've heard about." Ruth hummed,"You like my baking?'
"Your baking skills? Exquisite. If there is a goddess of baking, you are her incarnate."
"Stop being weird." Fleur blinked.
"I'm not being weird, I'm being nice." Elijah pointed.
"He's being weird." Fleur pointed.
"Fuck me, that is the last time I walk up stairs." Another woman walked in, blonde, the same age as Ruth.
"Trust me, darling. Stairs are the safest option." Elijah shook his head.
"Who you calling darling?"
"Mom." Fleur cleared her throat.
"Oh.. You're the British boy." Gail nodded.
"Sorry, I just call everyone darling." Elijah shook his head,"My name is Elijah."
"It's alright kid, I'm messing with you." Gail nudged his arm.
"Well, it has been a pleasure meeting both of you."
"You too." Ruth smiled,"Let's go talk, sugar." She nodded to Fleur who then led them off to a separate room.
"Right, now what was this important thing you were calling about?" Gail asked.
"Addy.. I want her staying with me, but I'm busy with work and so is Derek- So I was wondering if she could stay with you two?" Fleur looked at them,"You were great with me and I hope you can give Addy the life she deserves."
"Of course we can take care of her, in all honesty, I've missed having someone else around the house." Ruth told her.
"Besides, she can come on holidays and spend as much as she wants with us, I just don't want her getting lonely."
"Trust me, she'll never feel lonely again. Not in our house." Gail pointed,"Now.. This 'Derek' man.
Fleur turned to Gail,"Hm?"
"Where is he?" Gail asked.
"He's.. About."
"About.. Where?"
Fleur pointed to Morgan who was at his desk. Gail nodded slowly as she walked over to him.
"Can I help you?" Morgan looked at Gail.
"You. You're with my daughter, aren't you?" Gail looked down at him.
Morgan blinked,"Oh my- Ma'am, yes. Yes, I am." He got up, holding his hand out,"Derek Morgan."
Gail shook his hand, gripping it tightly,"If you hurt her, you're fucking dead."
"Yes ma'am." Derek nodded,"She's great, amazing. You have a beautiful daughter."
"Trust me, I'm well aware." Gail looked him up and down,"You pass."
"Thank you." Derek smiled.
Gail gave him a nod of approval before walking back to the others,"I think he got the message."
"I think so too." Fleur laughed
"You don't need to threaten every boy that she speaks to." Ruth sighed.
"It shows authority." Gail hummed.
"I know, but Fleur is a grown woman now. She knows how to defend herself."
"She's still my baby." Gail muttered.
