Chapter 131 - Taboo

"Is it true?" Fleur gasped at JJ as they walked in.

"It's true." JJ smiled at her.

"I told you!" Fleur nudged Elijah.

"How was I supposed to know that this time it was true?" Elijah crossed his arms.

"Because I'm always right." Fleur shrugged.

"Sometimes." Reid corrected.

"Eh, most of the time." Elijah nodded.

"Well, when is she arriving?" Reid asked.

"We're going to get her soon." JJ told him.

"Get who?" Emily smiled as she walked in with a box.

"..You're here." Elijah blinked.

"Some things never change." Emily chuckled.

"Hey, you." JJ smiled as she hugged Emily.

"Hi." Emily hummed.

"Welcome back!" Reid grinned before taking the box,"Donuts? Wait, did you happen to get.."

"Chocolate frosted with sprinkles? How could I forget your favourites?" Emily chuckled.

"Yes!" Reid smiled as he took one.

"It is so great to see you, even if it's only temporary." Fleur took a cupcake.

"Well, when Hotch told me the director tapped him for special assignment, I wanted to help out. Moreso after I heard you still had escaped serial killers to catch on top of your normal caseload." Emily explained.

"Lewis is gonna be sorry she missed you." Reid mentioned.

"Oh yeah, me too." Emily sighed as she went to sit her bag down.

"You know, that's actually Luke Alvez's desk." Reid pointed.

"Really? It looks empty." Emily pointed out.

"He travels light." Fleur joked.

"Huh, Garcia said he was ex-army? Came over from the fugitive task force?" Emily asked.

"Yeah, you're gonna like him." Reid nodded.

"Y'know, the lack of personal effects on his desk could stem from his days as a fugitive hunter. He probably felt like he never in one place long enough to dig in. I mean, no family photos, no significant other, not even a plant to over-water." Emily hummed as Alvez walked up behind her,"I mean, this Alvez could be a rela loner type. Somebody could've done a real number on this guy. An ex, maybe?"

Meanwhile Fleur and Elijah shook their head, giving Emily a cue to shut up. Luke was behind her.

"I mean, no doubt the army taught him order and discipline, but a desk like this could mean he has committed issues." Emily finished before looking up at their faces,"..He's behind me right now, isn't he?

"Luke Alvez meet Emily Prentiss." Reid cleared his throat.

"Hey, nice to meet you." Emily turned and shook his hand.

"Emily used to be a part of our team and now she's the unit chief for Interpol in London." Fleur hummed.

"Yeah, she's agreed to help us out while Hotch is on a TDY and Lewis works on her research." JJ explained.

"I'm also on temporary duty, so I'll be in and out. I'll be working on and off. I'm working today, obviously-I'm just really happy I could come back. You know?" Emily smiled,"Oh and truth be told, its pretty hard to resist.. Putting the band back together again, so-Yeah I'm here to help."

"Well, we have a lot on our plate." Alvez nodded.

"Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear." Garcia walked past everyone.

"Speaking of which, looks like we have a case." Elijah pointed.

"Let's go." Fleur clapped,"She'll be happy to see you."

And so they all walked to the Conference Room, Garcia gasping when she saw Emily.

"Oh! You really are here." Garcia quickly hugged Emily.

"Have you met Luke Alvez?" Rossi asked.

"Oh yeah.. We just met." Luke chuckled.

"Okay, so you know how I sometimes like to day something clever before I say something sad and disturbing to self-soothe, to that end, please make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in their fully upright position because.." Garcia rambled before images appeared on screen,"Yesterday in South Florida, the body of a woman was found encased in concrete in a fifty-five gallon drum. Lisa Barclay, thirty-five, single mom. Lived with her thirteen year old son in Boynton Beach."

"If she was encased in concrete, how'd they ID her?" Fleur asked.

"Uh, because the M.E was able to ID prints from three fingers that broke through the surface." Garcia told them.

"When did she go missing?" Emily looked up.

"A week ago." Rossi nodded,"Where did they find the drum?"

"At an illegal dump site. Some teenagers found it." Garcia answered.

"Uh, local PD needs to canvas the area for more possible victins." JJ pointed.

"They're doing that right now." Garcia nodded.

"Any signs of sexual assault?" Elijah asked.

"That is unclear at this time because they're still removing the concrete from her body." Garcia sighed.

"Burying his victim like this could be the UnSub's form of torture." Emily suggested.

"Could be a forensic countermeasure." Fleur pointed.

"Or a sign of remorse or undoing." Reid added.

"Unfortunately, all of you could be right because.." Garcia gulped, pointing at the screen.

"Is.. Is that..?" JJ asked slowly.

"An ultrasound of the drum." Garcia nodded.

"Lisa Barclay was still alive when he put her in there." Rossi sighed.

*********************************

Once the team were on the plane, a few of them made some hot beverages while the others placed the documents out.

"Lisa Barclay lived a low risk lifestyle. She and her son moved to Boynton Beach after her divorce, four years ago." Reid mentioned.

"So, is this the work of the jealous ex?" Emily asked.

"Unlikely. It appears the divorce was amicable. The ex-husband remarried, lives in Texas." Rossi added.

"And he sends child support checks like clockwork." Alvez added.

"She worked as an assistant bank manager. She was known as the whistle blower, this could've been a way of silencing her." Fleur looked up.

"Yeah, what bumps me is the way the Unsub disposed of the barrel. I mean, there's no way they lifted that sucker up. It must weigh.." Alvez shook his head.

"Five hundred and forty two pounds, give or take, depending on such factors as moisture content of the concrete, the victims body weight and the laws of displacement." Reid butted in.

"Which still begs the question, how did he lift it?" Elijah asked.

"We could be looking at two UnSubs maybe?" JJ suggested.

"Guys, I hate to interrupt, but a second drum has been found with a woman's body encased in concrete inside it." Garcia told them as she appeared on the laptop.

"Where?" Fleur asked.

"At another illegal dump site, not far from where Lisa Barclay was found." She answered.

"Two women in literal dump sites. He must view his victims as garbage." Emily sighed.

"Prentiss, you and I will check out the latest crime scene. JJ, set up at the local PD. Spencer, Luke, talk to the M.E." Rossi instructed.

*********************************

"So, you still like driving on the left side of the road?" Rossi joked with Emily.

"Yeah, London's good." Emily nodded.

"And Mark? Is he treating you right?" Fleur hummed,"Cause if not, you give me the word-"

"Oh- Thanks, Fleur. We're very happy." Emily chuckled softly,"What about you and Morgan? Are you still good and strong?"

"And then some." Fleur winked.

"Wow." Emily hummed.

"Agent Rossi. Agent Howards." The detective, Ogilvie, walked to them.

"Hey." Rossi shook his hand.

"Detective Ogilvie." He nodded.

"Good to see you again." Rossi told him, looking over at Emily,"This is, uh, SSA Prentiss."

"Hi." Emily shook his hand.

"Pleasure. Right this way, careful." Ogilvie lead them into the crime scene,"Hope you've all had your tetanus shots. This is where the second drum was found."

"The UnSub had to overcome a lot of obstacles to get the drum here." Rossi sighed.

"He'd also need a vehicle capable of supporting a lot of weight, maybe a pickup, dual wheels." Emily added.

"What if he's mixing the cement at the disposal sites?" Ogilvie asked.

"It would be a messy job, I don't see any evidence of that." Emily shook her head.

"He might've used a steel dolly to get the drum here, but it couldn't have been easy." Rossi added.

"So, why here?" Ogilvie raised a brow,"He could've rolled it off the embankment of any canal in the area. It would have sank right out of sight."

"Detective." An officer called him over.

"Excuse me." Ogilvie walked off.

"The hard to reach locations, the drums, the concrete. The UnSub is jumping through a whole lot of hoops to hide these bodies." Fleur sighed.

"It must mean something to him. Part of a ritual, maybe." Rossi suggested.

"The drum could symbolise coffins. The.. The concrete, a tomb or headstone." Emily added.

"All the earmarks of a cemetery. Which means.. This could be his private burial grouje." Rossi sighed

*********************************

Reid, Elijah and Luke walked into the M.E's office where they were drilling the concrete.

"Doctor Durboraw?" Reid asked.

"Sorry, I didn't hear you come in." She turned, putting down her drill.

"I'm Doctor Spencer Reid, this is Agent Deans and Alvez." Reid introduced them as he crouched down,"The UnSub may have a gender preference, but not race."

"How long had Lisa Barclay been in the drum?" Alvez asked.

"Based on the condition of the body, about a week." Durboraw answered.

"Ligature marks, he restrained her." Reid tilted his head,"Have you determined the C.O.D?"

"X-Ray showed she had concrete in her mouth, trachea and lungs. She drowned in it. I won't know more until I can complete a full exam."

Elijah pointed to the other woman,"She shows signs of severe decomposition but we should be able to ID her through DNA or dental records of other missing women in the area."

"I see you tried dermal issue rehydration to get her fingerprints." Reid looked up.

"My initial examination noted that friction ridges were still visible." Durboraw nodded.

"You can rehydrate mummified skin?" Luke blinked.

"Well, it's a method adapted from an archeological study on Egyptian mummies. The loose rehydrate skin is then slipped over a living person's fingertip and is used to get the victim's print." Reid explained.

"I'm running them through the system now." Durbarow sighed.

"You know, we initially thought taht she was the second victim, but the mummification indicates that she was actually killed before Lisa Barclay, making her the original known victim." Reid pointed.

"I'd say a month before." She agreed.

"And this isn't the pre-mixed, ready to use kind, which means that he went through the trouble to mix his own sand, cement and gravel." Alvez commented.

"He obviously has the skills to make it himself or access to it through his job." Elijah pointed.

*********************************

"We're looking for a white male, thirty to forty years old, who may be performing crude chemical lobotomies on his victins." Rossi began the profile.

"It appears he's drilling up through to the nasal cavity in order to insert chlorine into his victims brains." Reid added.

"Chlorine?" Oglivie raised a brow.

"Concentrated chlorine is highly corrosive." Fleur pointed out.

"This suggests he's trying to destroy their frontal lobes. That area of the brain controls impulse and inhibition." Emily told them.

"Didn't Jeffery Dahmer want to create sex slave zombies?" Oglivie blinked.

"Yes, and like Dahmer, he may be looking for a way to find power and control over his victims. In this case, thirty-something single mothers with young sons." Elijah nodded.

"His knowledge of the dump sites indicates that he's comfortable here and likely lives or works in the area." Fleur added.

"He's probably physically fit, and may drige a large van or pickup in order to transport the drims." Alvez continued.

"It's doubtful that he has any medical training. And when his experiments fail, he may be entoming his victims as a forensic countermeasure." Reid nodded.

"The use of chlorine, co bined with his masonry skills suggests he's some sort of tradesman." JJ pointed.

"Let's look at contractors, pool builders. He could also be part of a highway road crew." Luke continued.

"The dump site area is important to him. We need your help to find out why. In the meantime, single mothers with young sons should remain vigilant. Thank you." Rossi finished.

*********************************

Garcia was sitting in her office, tilting her head before she called the others.

"What have you got, Gacria?" Emily asked.

"So, I'm looking for workers that Malcolm Landon may have come into contact with at the condo complex he lived at with his mom. And it turns out that the complexes where all three victims lived shared not only the same property management company, but the same cable provider, contractors, gardeners, pool maintenance and security companies." Garcia listed.

"Narrow the search to employees from each complex that were working the days the victims went missing." Emily nodded.

"Well, we think the same soul sister, because I am currently swimming through time cards and employment records. And by swimming, I don't mean like- Glammy Olympic way. It's sort of a slog. Nothing really matches up." Garcia ranted.

"Transient workers and day laborers often provide false IDs." Reid added.

"What about the sales of 55-gallon drums, chlorine and the materials to make concrete?" Fleur suggested.

"Yes, I have cross-matched that with South Floridians who drive super-duper trucks." Garcia hummed.

"And?" Rossi raised a brow.

"I have come up with a list that is good and plenty. Which, by the way, is my current favourite candy." Garcia told them.

"It's that long?" Emily blinked.

"Well, yeah, but there's a lot of housing projects going up. There's roads being oaved. And it's the Sunshine State. Do you know how many pools need to stay sparkling clean?" Garcia asked.

"Have you found anyone who lives or works within the geo profile area?" Emily sighed.

"Uh, so far with that, I've come up with a big fat goose egg." She shook her head.

"Okay, Garcia, keep searching." Rossi sighed.

"I will leave nothing unturned, goodbye." Garcia hung up.

"Okay, we profiled this guy may view the disposal sites as a.. Cemetery, a hallowed ground." Emily stood up.

"If that's true, he most likely will be compelled to revisit the area." Elijah nodded.

"But the drums have been removed. His victims aren't there anymore." Fleur pointed.

"Well, if he doesn't live or work in the area, there's some emotional reason he's putting the barrels there." Rossi shook his hesd,"We need to stake it out."

*********************************

"Sounds like you spoiled a romantic evening for those kids." Rossi chuckled as Emily, Elijah and Alvez walked in after finding a duo in lovers lane, thinking it was the UnSub.

"So the UnSub's disposal area is a lover's lane?" JJ looked between them.

"Why dump the body of grown women in a place used by horny teenagers?" Luke blinked.

"Probably the same reason they go there." Elijah shrugged,"It's secluded, private."

"Well, if the Unsub took girls there when he was younger, it would explain how he knows the area, and why it would mean something to him." Fleur agreed.

"Maybe he had his first sexual experience there." Alvez suggested.

"Maybe the first time didn't go so well." Rossi shrugged,"Lobotomies might be his way of creating a willing sexual partner."

"Or he could've recently started dating a single mother with a son. If she mocked or rejected his advances, this might be payback." Emily nodded.

"Whatever the reason, we gave made it impossible for him to return to the sites. So he's probably angry." JJ sighed,"Most likely, he'll devolve."

*********************************

"Even though there was no sexual assault, the use of a lover's lane as a dump site suggests a sexual component." Emily began.

"And the lobotomies are still probably the Unsub's way of exerting control over his victims." JJ pointed.

"It could go back to his childhood. He's trying to gain back the control he never had." Elijah suggested.

"It seems primitive now, but in the 1940s and 50s, cutting portions of the brain was believed to rid a patient of delusions, nervousness." Fleur added.

"Instead, most patients experienced loss of memories, motor skills and languages." Reid explained.

"That happened to JFK's older sister, Rosemary. She suffered brain damage at birth. At twenty-three, her father secretly arranged to have doctors perform a lobotomy. It was a misguided attempt to control her mood swings and sexual behaviour." JJ sighed.

"Maybe instead of trying to turn on his victims sexuality, our guy us trying to turn the switch off." Rossi suggested.

Reid stood up, looking at the board behind them all.

"You see something, Spence?" Elijah asked.

"It's what Rossi said, what if the UnSub is deliberately damaging his victims brains in his own misguided hope of fixing them?" Reid raised a brow.

"He targets single moms. So, he could be trying to cure them of their sexuality." Rossi agreed.

"To turn them into what he considers to be good, well-behaved mothers." Fleur looked up.

"So, it's likely his own mother or another woman close to him has had brain damage." Alvez nodded.

"Garcia, we need your help." Emily called Garcia.

"Fire when ready." Garcia hummed.

"Uh, we are looking for local women who have or have never been treated for a brain injury or disorder." Emily listed.

"I have nineteen names." Garcia told her.

"Well, he's targeting women in their mid thirties. How many fall under that category?" Fleur asked.

"Three woman suffered traumatic brain injury, all due to accident. I have a car crash, fell off a horse and surfing incident." Garcia answered.

"Any of them have damage to the frontal lobe?" Elijah questioned.

"One, Lynelle Barker, thirty-six, of West Palm Beach." Garcia typed,"When she was fifteen, she was in a car crash that killed her father Edward Barker. She wasn't wearing a seat belt. Soon after that, she was diagnosed with something called Klüver-Busy Syndrome."

"Klüver-Bucy is a neurological disorder associated with frontal lobe damage. One of it's major symptoms is hypersexuality." Reid added.

"If Lynelle Barker was acting out sexually, she may have a husband or boyfriend who was upset about it." JJ nodded.

"Garcia, was she getting treatment for her condition?" Reid raised a brow.

"Yeah, a month ago she started seeing a therapist and taking medication." She told them.

"That's when Sharon Landon, the first victim went missing." Emily pointed.

"If the victims were surrogates of Lynelle, and she was no longer hypersexual, thanks to treatment, why would the Unsub suddenly start killing?" Rossi questioned.

"Garcia, can you check males thirty-five to forty, that would have been in Lynelles circle of family and friends?" Luke added.

"Bien sûr, je peux." Garcia typed.

"The lovers lane, crude lobotomies, the possible sexual dysfunction, this could all speak to the UnSubs youth." Fleur mentioned.

"Garcia, refine your search to men between eighteen to twenty-five." Rossi pointed.

"Refining.." Garcia typed,"Lynelle has a twenty year old brother named Stuart. He lives with his mother in West Palm Beach."

"Sixteen years is a big age gap between siblings." Elijah furrowed his brow.

"Oh! That's because Stuart was adopted. Gloria Barker adopted him a year after Lynelle and Gloria's husband were in that car crash. And brace yourselves because methinks I'm about to uncover some family dirt of the hidden variety. Okay- Just says before Gloria adopted Stuart, Lynelle, Gloria's daughter, then sixteen had a baby. And I am prying open the sealed adoption records now, and.. Yeah. Guess what?" Garcia sighed.

"Stuart's sister is actually his mother." Reid nodded.

"Yep." Garcia nodded.

"And the woman he thought was his mother is actually his grandmother." Emily blinked.

"Guys, Stuart does repairs at a place called Blue Breeze Pools, that have worked at all three condo complexes." Garcia gasped.

"Was he working the days the victims disappeared?" Rossi asked.

"Yahtzee, go get him." Garcia hummed.

"Send us his home and work adresses." Alvez pointed as they stood up.

"Oh, newbie. Already sent." Garcia scoffed.

*********************************

The group thankfully managed to save Gloria before Stuart could bury her in concrete like Lynelle and were now back at the Headquarters.

"Emily." Fleur waved for her to come over to where her and Elijah were sitting.

"Fleur." Emily hummed as she approached the pair.

"We have loads to catch up on." Fleur nodded.

"Oh, I missed out gossip sessions." Emily pulled over a chair to sit down.

"Well, obviously you know we both got married." Fleur nudged Elijah.

"Mhm, saved you a seat there." Elijah smiled, fidgeting with his ring.

"I'm sorry I missed it. You know what getting leave is like." Emily sighed.

"Not very easy." Elijah nodded.

"So, what else have I missed?" Emily hummed.

"Babies. You've missed babies." Elijah told her.

"Oh! Yes! You two had little ones." Emily gasped.

"Don't worry, we have plenty of pictures. Don't we, Flo?" Elijah looked to her.

"Oh yes." Fleur grabbed her phone,"They're best friends."

"Oh- They are adorable." Emily smiled.

"Hank's saying some words." Fleur pointed.

"Which ones?"

"Dada, Beau- But he pronounces it as Boo. Marie.. But not Mama." Fleur sighed.

"He's getting close." Elijah patted her back.

"Mhm." Fleur chuckled.

"Lizzie won't be speaking for another couple months, she's more concerned with eating her own toes." Elijah hummed.

"At least she's not eating bad things." Emily pointed.

"You got me there." Elijah nodded.

"So, how's parenthood?" Emily looked at them.

"Tiring." Elijah shook his head,"The amount of times I've fallen asleep in the nursery?"

"Tell me about it." Fleur sighed.

"It's such an.. Experience." Elijah nodded slowly.

"I can't wait to meet them." Emily pointed at them.

"Well, if you stick around, I'm sure we can organize something." Elijah smiled.

"I know." Emily chuckled.

"You know what I think we should do?" Elijah looked between them,"I think we should go out."

"I heard going out." JJ walked over.

"You heard right." Elijah nodded.

"O'Keefes?" Fleur pointed.

"Oh- I've missed O'Keefes." Emily smiled.

"Hey, Alvez, we're heading over to O'Keefes, you wanna come?" JJ looked over at him.

"Thanks, I've got some work I wanna finish up." Alvez shook his head.

"Alright, let's get this show on the road. This lady needs to get her drink on." Garcia ran over, looking at Luke,"Not that I need a drink. On occasion, I have one, maybe two. Three if it's not a school night and not on an empty stomach, and not when I drive. I don't drink and drive." She ranted.

Alvez chuckled softly,"Did I say anything?"

"No, I just.. I don't wanna feel your Judge-y McJudgerson looks on me as I daintly zip my Mai-Tai." Garcia pointed.

"Hey, he's.. He's not joining us." Elijah put his hand on her shoulder.

"Oh, okay. In that case, never mind." Garcia hummed.

"Stay safe, ladies." Alvez hummed,"And Elijah."

"Guys-You know what? I need another thirty seconds then we're out of here. I promise." Emily pointed.

"Alright, we'll see you at the elevators." Garcia waved.

"You know why I don't think he goes out with us?" Fleur nudged them,"It involves someone called Roxy."

"Roxy, do tell." Elijah leaned in.

"Garcia told me. She can blab." Fleur laughed.

"Penny." Elijah hummed.

"On the way." Garcia pointed.
