Chapter 125 - Tribute

"Okay- Hank's up and dressed, how far away do you think they are?" Fleur walked into her and Morgan's room.

"Well, Ruth called me a bit ago and they were still driving. She said they'd be here soon, whenever that it." Morgan told her.

"Okay- Okay, yeah." Fleur nodded,"I need to check Hank again."

"Hank is just fine, babygirl." Morgan assured her.

"But what if-"

"Fleur, he's okay. I promise." Morgan told her.

Fleur sighed,"Come with me, please?"

"Alright, I will. But then you are going to sit down and relax." Morgan pointed.

"Okay." Fleur nodded, walking upstairs.

Morgan followed her and rubbed her arm before he opened the door to their room.

"Oh, hi, my baby boy." Fleur smiled, walking into the room where Hank was in his cot.

"See? Our baby boy is just fine." Morgan kissed the side of her head.

"I just.." Fleur sighed.

"I know." Morgan rubbed her back,"I don't blame you."

"It's so different from when I had Addy." Fleur nodded.

"And it's going to keep being different, it'll be.. A new experience for both of us."

"Yeah." Fleur leaned into him.

Morgan kissed the top of her head,"You're doing great."

Fleur looked up at him as the doorbell went,"They're here."

"Do you want me to get it?" Morgan asked.

"Please? I'll bring Hank down."

Morgan nodded and headed downstairs, quickly opening the door.

"Papa." Adelaide smiled, hugging him.

"Addy." Morgan hugged back.

"Welcome to the grandparent club." Ruth chuckled.

"Are you excited to see Hank?" Morgan asked.

"So excited, even Gail." Ruth nudged him.

"Even Gail?"

"Yes, even me." Gail nodded.

"Fleur's just bringing him down. Come in, all of you." Morgan held the door open.

"Thanks, Papa." Adelaide hummed as they walked in

"No problem, sweetheart." Morgan nodded.

"Hi everyone." Fleur smiled as she walked down with Hank in her arms.

"Oh, hi baby." Ruth grinned.

"Flo or Hank?" Gail chuckled.

"Both." Ruth hummed as she walked to them both.

"Oh, I missed you guys." Fleur hummed.

"We missed you too." Adelaide told her.

"When we heard the news.. We wanted to come straight away." Adelaide sighed.

"Well, you're here now." Morgan patted her back.

"I have a brother." Adelaide smiled.

"Do you want to hold him?" Morgan asked.

"Can I?" Adelaide gasped.

"He's your baby brother." Morgan nodded.

"Yes please." Adelaide held her arms out.

Morgan carefully took Hank and handed him to Adelaide,"Support his head, okay?"

"I got him." Adelaide carefully took Hank, supporting his head.

Hank slowly opened his eyes, looking up at Adelaide.

"Oh my god." Adelaide smiled,"Hi Hank."

Hank reached out, grabbing at her finger.

"He loves you." Gail pointed.

"Aw, it's so cute." Ruth smiled.

"Honestly, this helps so much." Fleur nodded.

"We're always one call away." Gail reminded them.

"And a few states." Morgan coughed.

"Quiet." Gail pointed.

"Yes Ma'am." Morgan pointed.

"And you're both doing okay?" Ruth asked.

"Well, I've actually.. Gave up the job." Morgan admitted.

"You did what?" Gail blinked.

"No- Not like that. I'm still supporting Fleur and Hank- Just not with the FBI." Morgan explained,"I'm gonna do my renovation job mainly, just so I can focus on being a husband and a father."

"Oh, that's so sweet." Ruth smiled.

"But I want to stay in the job.. It's what I've always wanted." Fleur shrugged.

"I want you to stay in the job." Morgan nodded.

"I just feel like-" Fleur began.

"Flo, staying at the BAU is what's best for you."

"Yeah, I know." Fleur sighed.

Morgan kissed her cheek,"You feel guilty?"

"Mother's guilt." Ruth nodded,"We understand."

"It won't go away overnight." Gail told her,"But eventually, it'll get better. The first few days are the worst."

"Okay." Fleur sighed.

"He'll still be here when you get back."

"Better be." Fleur warned.

"He will, Mama." Morgan assured her.

"I love you all so much." Fleur sighed.

"And we love you too, sweetheart." Ruth told her.

*********************************

"Babe, have you seen my tie?" Elijah asked as he walked downstairs.

"Uh.. What one?"

"The flamingo one."

"We just washed it, it may be drying." Reid pointed.

"Right-" Elijah walked off.

"Or the cats have it." He added.

"They better not." Elijah sighed.

"Go check." Reid chuckled.

"Boys." Elijah shook his head as he headed to the kitchen.

Rigatoni purred and jumped up on the counter.

"Have you seen my tie, little man?" Eliajh asked him.

Rigatoni meowed and tilted his head.

"Or does your brother have it?"

Rigatoni sat down and looked behind him.

"He's behind me, isn't he?" Elijah sighed as he turned around.

Horatio then meowed from behind Elijah, placing the tie down.

"Oh- Good boy." Elijah picked it up.

"Got it?" Reid walked through.

"Got it." Elijah showed him.

"Good boy, Horatio." Reid petted him.

"The goodest boy." Elijah hummed.

"Well, let get ready and we'll be off." Reid nodded,"Is Fleur back yet?"

"She is.." Elijah nodded.

"Think she'll be okay?"

"I hope so." Elijah crossed his arms.

"Hopefully." He hummed.

"I'll make sure she it."

"Come on, let's go." Reid pointed.

*********************************

The team were currently on the jet in their way to a case site.. One that they'd been alerted to by Emily. She was on call with Hotch while the others sat behind him. Reid stared off into the distance, Elijah next to him and Fleur in front, an empty seat next to her.

"Are you ever going to turn that page?" Elijah gently nudged him.

"I haven't finished yet." Reid shrugged, looking at them.

"You miss him.. Hm?" Elijah tilted his head and Reid nodded.

"Yeah, me too." Fleur sighed

"Me three." Elijah nodded.

After a few minutes, Hotch informed the team about the information that Emily had told him about.

"What makes us so sure it's all the same guy?" Rossi asked.

"Well, Emily believes it's how precisely he's mimicking each crime. Go ahead, Garcia." Hotch nodded.

"Okay. This is all streaming to your tablets. Feel free to follow along. I give you Andrei Chikatilo. His first victim was in 1978. It was a nine year old girl whose body was discovered in the Russian city of Rostov. She was secually assaulted, strangled and mutilated." Garcia began as she spoke through the laptop.

"He also took eyeballs as trophies and ate some of his victims' organs." Reid added.

"Ugh. I now give you ten year old Natasha Dudechenko. Her body was discovered two years ago also in Rosotov, roughly a mile away from where the original body was found, and tragically in much the same condition." Garcia continued.

"The Russian police apparently spotted a suspect near the crime scene, but he eluded capture in tjr crowded train station." Hotch looked up from his tablet.

"Chikatilo confessed to fifty-six murders committed between 1978 and 1990." Fleur pointed.

"Well, the timeline and the body count probably don't matter as much as geography and the copying of the MO." Elijah shook his head,"It was the same last year in London."

"It was, indeed. Three women were discovered in Whitechapel, which is a district in East London, all within a month, and all eviscerated à la Mr Ripper." Garcia hummed.

"The third victim was Scotland Yard. And that's when Emily almost caught him in that undercover operation." JJ nodded.

"If this is the same UnSub, he would be incredibly rare. He's both criminally and forensically sophisticated, and the fact he's able to function and evade capture in three countries means he's highly intelligent and almost certainly multilingual." Reid commented.

"And he's got some money in his pocket too. Travel takes financing." Rossi added.

"Lewis is flying in from an assignment in Atlanta. And we'll all connect with Emily in New York." Hotch nodded.

"Well, it'll be good to see her again. Too bad it's gotta be like this." Elijah sighed.

*********************************

On arriving to the offices, the team walked in to meet Tara and Emily.

"There she is." Rossi smiled.

"Hi." Emily grinned.

"We missed you. How are you?" Fleur hugged her.

"Good, good, it's great to see you." Emily hummed,"Oh, brainic, love the 'do."

"It's the marriage haircut." Reid chuckled.

"I told you it suited you." Elijah pointed.

"Rossi and JJ are headed to the crime scene. I'm assuming you want to join?" Hotch asked.

"You assume right." Emily nodded.

*********************************

Elijah, Rossi, JJ and Emily were in the SUV, getting out as they parked.

"The whole ride down here, you didn't mention the guy once. I'm just saying." Rossi held up his hands.

"What, Morgan? Okay, guys, I'm sorry. I was going to. I was just giving you some space. I mean, he just left. You must still be raw." Emily looked around at them,"I remember leaving you guys both times. I was heartbroken. I'm sure he's going to be okay. He's with his family and.. He's Morgan. How are you guys doing? You holding up?"

"Yeah, I mean some days are better than others." JJ shrugged.

"Actually, I think he was giving you a hard time about your boyfriend, Mark." Elijah crossed his arms.

"Wait, how do you know about Mark?" Emily blinked.

"Oh, come on, I'll give you one guess." JJ chuckled.

"Garcia." Emily realised

"You must be the Feds." Two men walked over,"I'm McLeary, this is Rawlings."

"I'm SSA Rossi. This is Agent Jareau and Deans. Agent Prentiss here is with Interpol." Rossi introduced them.

"This is it right over here." McLeary lead them to the crime scene.

"What can you tell us about the victim?" Rossi asked.

"Her name was Camille Harrison, twenty-six year old bartender from Yonkers. Cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the head." McLeary poimted.

"There was someone else in here. See the blood spatter shadow on the passenger seat?" Emily pointed out.

"Yeah, we picked up on that. Figured the shooter was standing right here outside the driver's side window while Miss Harrison was at the wheel." He nodded.

"You guys find any blood trails?" Emily walked ahead.

"No, but it rained last night. It compromised the scene." McLeary shook his head.

"If someone else was here, that matched rhe MO of the Son of Sam murders. Berkowitz first victims were two girls he shot in a car." Rossi shrugged.

"Yes, but one of them was only hit in the leg and survived." Elijah nodded.

"But you're assuming there was a second victim. We got one stiff." McLeary sighed.

"Okay, but let's say somebody else was shot. What would they do?" Emily asked.

"I'd get the hell out of the car and run." JJ scoffed.

"Yeah, and I'd go this way." Elijah pointed,"It's where the closest busy street is."

"So if I'm hurt, maybe I stumble.." Emily turned the corner,"Hello, I got something here. Do you have an evidence collection kit in your car?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I do." McLeary nodded.

*********************************

Back at the offices, everyone else got back to Fleur, Hotch and Reid. Emily walking in with cups for everyone.

"Oh buddy, I remember why I missed you so much now." Fleur hummed.

"Guys, I noticed a pattern." Reid pointed,"The Unsub only kills between the months of March and September."

"Makes sense. It's easier to move around in the summer months." Emily shrugged.

"Go ahead, Garcia." Hotch nodded.

"I have got absolutely nothing on my passport search. I've been trying to pinpoint travelers who were in America, the UK, and Russia at the time of the murders. I have zero matches." Garcia sighed through the phone.

"Hey, we should also look at diplomats." Emily added.

"Oh my god- It's you, hi!" Garcia gasped.

"Hey, you." Emily smiled.

"You're here! Well, you're not here here but you're in the country here. I miss you. How are you?" Garcia smiled.

"Garcia." Hotch cleared his throat.

"Oh! Yes- Sorry. Diplomats, explain?"

"Well, what if he's part of some diplomatic envoy?" Emily suggested,"Someone attached to an embassy would have money and could travel with ease."

"Not to mention diplomatic immunity." Fleur shrugged.

"It would also explain him being multilingual." Reid added.

"Still would have to go through customs, though." JJ pointed.

"I got a match.. It's not really a match." Garcia sighed.

"Why not?" Fleur asked.

"Because I don't think our Unsub is his Excellency, Dr Sanjay Shah, sixty-one year old Indian Ambassador to the UK." Garcia explained,"He was in London at the right time, but he's currently speaking at a climate control conference in Miami."

"Guys, we got a woman who was shot in the leg in the Bronx. Claims she was mugged, but she was in the area at the right time." Rawlings told them as he walked in.

*********************************

"Hi. Monica? My name's Jennifer an this is Fleur and Emily, we're with the FBI." JJ introduced them as they walked into the hospital room,"Do you mind if we ask a few questions?"

"FBI? I already talked to the cops." Monica shook her head.

"We'll be quick. Promise." JJ assured her.

"Not like I'm going anywhere." Monica sighed.

"Can you tell us how you got shot?" Fleur asked.

"Some white dude mugged me. Took my wallet, my phone. Shot me in the leg. I already told the cops all of this.. Can't you talk to them?" She looked around at them.

"Okay, Monica look, I'm gonna keep this one hundred because I don't have a lot of time. Have you ever heard of Interpol?" Emily leaned forward.

"No." She answered.

"It's an international police organisation. I'm talking like 190 countries. We help cops all over the world." Emily explained.

"Wait, but you said you were FBI." Monica pointed.

"I am. But I'm also attached to Interpol. And part of my job is to hunt down serial killers." Emily sighed.

"For real?" Monica asked.

"For real." Fleur chuckled.

"The guy I am looking for, I have tracked all the way from Russia to England to here. He has killed six people, that we know of. The youngest was a ten year old girl and the oldest was a seventy-two year old grandmother." Emily told her.

"Oh my god.." Monica looked down.

"So tell me what really happened to you." Emily sighed.

"Please..If my father finds out.." Monica whispered.

"He's not here.. Okay? It's just us." JJ assured her,"Now, tell us what really happened."

Monica began to tear up,"We.. Pulled over. His girlfriend was driving, he got out the backseat of the car, then I heard this bang. Her blood was everywhere. It was all over me."

"Okay, okay, let's start at the beginning. How did you meet him?" JJ asked.

"He.. Texted me from my Internet ad.. I escort sometimes, but only when I really need the money." Monica admitted.

"Do you remember his name?" Emily raised a brow.

"Mike. He was trying to look up a threesome with his girlfriend. I don't do that. But he said he'd give me three hundred just to show up. I thought he was gonna rob me. But he just shot me and walked off."

"Did he have an accent? Could you tell where he was from?"

"No. He was from here. He was American." Monica nodded.

*********************************

"NYPD doubled their patrols in Queens, where Berkowitz hunted next." Emily told them.

"He may not try to hit Queens. He only copycatted one murder in Boston before he moved on." Rossi pointed.

"Maybe now that he's back home in the States he's accelerating for one reason or another." Reid suggested.

"It might be because we have so many serial killers to choose from." Fleur sighed.

"So the cellphone he texted Monica DeJesus with was a burner." JJ informed them as she walked in.

"You know, somehow he managed to talk Camille Harrison into a threesome with a prostitute. This guy must be quite the charmer." Rossi shrugged.

"You are not kidding. The amount of germs exchanged in a situation like that could be astronomical." Reid agreed.

"Well, maybe Camille was into that kind of thing." JJ added.

"Fair enough. But the Unsub barely knew her. He would have had calls, texts, something. Everyone she was in touch with checks out." Elijah sighed.

"And he let Monica live." Fleur pointed, "Copying the MO was so important to him, he needed to keep one of them alive."

"One of our squads thinks they spotted someone that matches your guy's description." Rawlings pointed as he walked in,"He entered a warehouse in Queens."

*********************************

The women stood in front of one group while the men stood in front of another as they began to tell the profile.

"The man we're looking for is a narcissistic copycat killer. Typically, copycats have identity issues and low confidence, which is why they emulate others." Emily began.

"But this guy's different. Confidence is the one thing he's full of." JJ pointed.

"He is brazenly replicating high profile murderers and he's doing it globally." Tara continued.

"He is only active between March and September which means he has to do something between October and February to bankroll it all." JJ explained.

"Probably a cash business. That way he doesn't leave a paper trail." Fleur added.

"Given his skill set, we're thinking thief, drug dealer, maybe even organized crime." Tara continued.

"Because we got close to him, he's probably already on the move." Hotch sighed.

"He's extremely mobile, do canvass airports, train and bus stations." Rossi pointed.

"His fascination with serial crime is deeply embedded in the psyche and part of what drives him." Reid continued.

"Which means he was probably exposed to serial crime at a young age. He may have been a victim, related to a victim or even connected to a perpetrator." Elijah explained.

"Unfortunately, there's no doubt he'll strike again. It's just a matter of who he decides to copy next. Thank you." Hotch nodded.

*********************************

"If the Unsub has moved on, I was trying to discern where he might go. Based on the time of death of his most recent victim, I was able to estimate just how far he could get." Reid explained,"Now, if he somehow managed to get on an aeroplane, however, he could be anywhere in the world right now."

"Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark are heavily covered. It's hard to get through that nest." Rossi nodded.

"Exactly. So his most likely form of transport would be a train, a bus or a car. I looked at departure schedules, I factored in possible travel speeds and it appears to me that he couldn't have gotten past this." Reid pointed to a circle on the map.

"That's a lot of real estate to cover." Fleur blinked.

"What's the deal with these?" Rossi gestured to markings on the map.

"Each of these represents the most famous killers of the past 150 years." Reid pointed.

"Wow, look at Chicago." Elijah hummed.

"I went as far back as the 1890s with H.H Holmes, then the lipstick Killer in the 1940s, William Heirens. We of course also have to consider Al Capone and the St Valentine Day Massacre and Richard Speck and John Wayne Gacy." Reid listed.

"I'm assuming that's Jeffrey Dahmer nearby in Milwaukee?" Emily tilted her head.

"Yes. And this is Ed Gein." Reid nodded.

"Well, if you wanted to copycat a famous serial killer, Chicago seems like the place to be." Rossi hummed.

*********************************

Everyone was on the plane again, travelling to another state as Garcia appeared on the screen.

"What have you got, Garcia?" Hotch asked.

"Sir, I connected to law enforcement surveillance feeds nationwide, and I used our sketch to start official recognition search. I got this, which is streaming to your tablets now. It was taken two hours ago, by a Chicago PD camera outside a bsu station." Garcia informed them.

"A bus left New York at 8:30 last night. It was due in Chicago at 11:00 this morning." Reid pointed.

"So, I am running a search with the new image. It's a national database. It's gonna take a while." She sighed.

"Garcia, let's narrow the search by region. Its likely that this UnSub grew up in an area near a high profile serial murder, so let's concentrate on California, Illinois, and surrounding states." Reid pointed.

"Copy that. That helps. But this programme is literally cycling through millions of faces." Garcia told them.

"Okay- What are missing here?" Fleur asked.

"Well, you said he was savoring it. What if this really is all about the thrill?" JJ looked to Emily,"It would be hard for a guy like that to just shut off over winter so what is he doing during his down time to feed that urge?"

"Well, we profiled something criminal." Tara shrugged

"Well, if he was a drug dealer or a thief, don't you think he would've stolen that Rolex instead of shoving it down that guy's throat?" Elijah crossed his arms.

"Okay, then there would be seasonal and lucrative and probably high risk." Hotch nodded.

"He could be some sort of hunting or adventure guide. Maybe on mounting climbing exhibitions or at ski resorts." Reid suggested.

"Okay. Narrowing the search." Garcia typed.

"Could be an oil rig worker." Rossi added,"Pretty sure they sign short-term contracts."

"Got it." Garcia nodded.

"Wait a minute. The knife." Emily realised.

"What knife?" JJ blinked.

"The Unsub's knife in the nightmare. It's long and serrated on one edge and it has a leather lanyard thing wrapped around his wrist." Emily told them.

"That sounds like a fisherman's knife." Reid tilted his head.

"Exactly. This might be a stretch, but what if he's a fisherman?" Emily looked around.

"Crab season is from October to February. It's highly lucrative, considering you only work a few months a year." Reid shrugged.

"Yeah. And it's also dangerous. Perfect for a thrill seeker." Elijah agreed.

"Got it, got it, got it.. Alright. Technology's working. Good things come to those who wait. Don't look at toast while it's cooking. That sort of thing." Garcia ranted,"Shut the front door! I give you thirty give year old Micheal Lee Peterson of Joliet, Illinois."

"He's back in his home town. That could mean this is his endgame." Rossi nodded.

"Tell us everything, Pen." Fleur leaned forward.

"Mr Peterson works as a deck hand on a craving fishing vessel on the Berring Sea known as Neptune's Squall. He was raised by his mother Lorraine. She died of a stroke ten years ago. His father Vincent was an armed robber. He died two years ago." Garcia informed them.

"That was right around the time of those first murders in Russia. That could've been the trigger." Tara pointed.

"Garcia, where'd the father serve his time?" Emily asked.

"Uh, mostly Stateville Penitentiary." Garcia nodded.

"Richard Speck and John Wayne Gacy were also incarcerated there." Reid spoke up.

"So which one is he planning to copycat?" Rossi wondered.

"Well, Speck systematically raped and murdered eight student nurses in their dormitory in a single night. If he's a serial killer looking for a thrill, that would do the trick." Emily sighed.

"Garcia, coordinate with the Chicago field office and put out an APB for Peterson." Hotch ordered.

"All over it, sir. All over it." Garcia hung up.

*********************************

"Agents! SWATS ten minutes out and we got more backup en route." An cop told the agents as they got out the SUVS.

"We need all exits covered." Hotch pointed.

"You got it." He nodded.

But that's when they heard a gunshot.

"Shots fired!" The cop yelled.

"We can't wait." Rossi pointed.

"Alright, we're going in. Tell SWAT we're going in. Dave, you take the front, we'll take the back." Hotch instructed.

"Got it." Rossi nodded as they rushed into the apartment.

The team were spurred on by the sound of another gunshot, finding Peterson holding one of the girls at gunpoint.

"Micheal Lee Peterson, FBI." Emily rushed in, pointing her gun.

"Get back. I swear to God, I'll blow her head off." Peterson warned.

"Okay- It's all good." Emily slowly entered the room.

"Back up!" Peterson shouted.

"Sorry, I can't do that." Emily sighed as Rossi appeared behind her.

"Please!" The girl begged.

"Shut up!" Peterson warned.

"You don't remember me, do you, Michael?" Emily asked as the others slowly appeared as well,"We met in London."

"You followed me all the way here. I must be a big deal." He chuckled.

"You're already going to be the man when you get to prison." JJ told him.

"Just let her go and you'll be on the news at ten." Rossi nodded.

"Look outside." Emily nodded,"Half the cops in the city are out there just for you. Go ahead, see for yourself."

"You're the best ever. Police all over the world have been looking for you." Fleur nodded.

"They're gonna write books about me- I'm even gonna make you famous." Peterson smirked.

"Look outside." Emily told him again

"See all those people out there? Ha! They're all gonna know my-" Peterson looked to the window.

That's when Emily shot her gun, killing Peterson instantly. The girl quickly ran out of the room and Rossi put his hand on Emily's shoulder. It was over.

*********************************

"Okay, so Hotch and Lewis are debriefing, but I'll text them and tell them where to meet us. Where are we going?" Fleur asked.

"Mexican?" Emily suggested,"Burritos in London, no bueno."

"Speak of the devil." Rossi pointed as Hotch and Tara walked over.

"Oh, I see tequila." Tara hummed.

"We're having family dinner. Are you in?" Garcia smiled.

"I've got some time." Hotch nodded.

"You had me at tequila." Tara shrugged.

"Yes! Vamanos! This is happening." Elijah turned to Emily,"You can tell us everything about Mark. And by everything, I mean everything about Mark. I want all the details."

"I, however, do not." Rossi pointed.

"Well, you won't get any. I'll save that for a real girls night." Emily assured him.

"Girls night, oh yeah. Bring it in." Tara laughed.

"Pow." Emily fistbumped her.

"Tequila!" Fleur smiled, leaning against Elijah.

The team then all went out to the Mexican restaurant, having fun, laughing, being a family..It was what they needed.
