Chapter 121 - Hostage
Elijah hummed, tapping on his steering wheel as he waited for Fleur outside her house.
Fleur opened the passenger side door, getting in,"Please tell me you brought food."
"As always." Elijah hummed, holding up a bag,"I stopped by the bakery before I came."
"I love you." Fleur smiled.
"I love you too." He nodded.
Fleur took the bag, grabbing a muffin before handing him one.
"Thank you, darling." Elijah hummed,"So, have you told him yet?"
"No.. I was thinking of making it special, but I don't know how." Fleur sighed.
"I wish I could help out but the only 'special' thing I did was propose in a hospital room." Elijah shrugged,"Have you considered telling him in a hospital room?"
"I'd need to get hurt and I don't really want that." Fleur chuckled.
"Well, there goes my best and only idea." Eliajh sighed.
"It's like you want me to get hurt." She gasped.
"I'm just talking from experience, it is proven to work." Elijah pointed.
"If I get hurt, I'm blaming you." She pointed.
"You just have to be careful." He told her.
"I will." Fleur hummed.

"Last night, uh, this girl, Gina Bryant, flagged down a police car in St Louis. She was wearing nothing but a dirty nightgown and she was barefoot. And she told them she had been kidnapped when she was eight." Garcia explained as they all sat in the Conference Room.
"That girl has to be nineteen or twenty years old." Morgan blinked, looking at the picture.
"Eighteen. And they confirmed her identity. She was a foster kid who disappeared ten years ago." Garcia informed them.
"She's been in captivity this whole time?" JJ asked.
"Long-term hostage. That's rare. Have we got another Ariel Castro here?" Rossi raised a brow.
"Oh, funny you should say that. Not funny, ha ha, funny weird. She told the police that she was held captive with this girl, Sheila Woods, fifteen years old, who disappeared from Nashville seven years ago." Garcia showed another picture,"Also she said there was another girl, too but all she knows about her is that her name is Violet and she was older."
"I'm assuming you've checked the missing children's database." Rossi looked to her.
"Affirmative, there's no Violet anywhere." Garcia sighed.
"Did Gina say anything about her captor?" Reid asked.
"Just that his name is Tom, and he was an older white dude." Garcia pointed.
"And where were they being held?" Elijah raised a brow.
"This house." Garcia showed the picture,"Gina took the cops there. They found Sheila, she's at the hospital, very ill with something yet to be determined. Violet nowhere to be found."
"Probably safe to assume she's with the Unsub." Hotch nodded.
"Who owns the house?" Fleur leaned forward.
"Oh, that's where things get even weirder. This woman, Clara Riggins. She's MIA, but her chequeing account is active, she pays her bills on time, and if my math is correct, she's 108 years old." Garcia answered.
"I might be going our on a limb here, but I bet she had nothing to do with the kidnapping." Rossi shrugged.
"The real question is where's the Unsub and this other girl, Violet?" Morgan looked around.
"That's what we're going to find out. Lewis is on a research assignment. Wheels up in thirty." Hotch stood up.
*********************************
"Both Gina and Sheila were grabbed when they were eight." JJ looked up from the file.
"And both just blocks away from their homes." Fleur added.
"And made a clean getaway each time. No witnesses." Rossi nodded.
"There's an excellent chance he stalked them both as well. Clean getaways usually mean they know daily routines and are familiar with the area." Reid pointed.
"So this guy's patient and he has a plan which means he has patterns too." Morgan sighed.
"This guys more than just a preferential pedophile. His victims are children, but that's probably more about establishing control. Long term captivity is what matters to him." Fleur crossed her arms
"We've seen profiles like this before. There's always a sexual assault component to their MO." Elijah shook his head.
That's when Garcia appeared on the screen,"Hello all, I just sent you all the 4-1-1 on the statements from police reports. Turns out the neighbours haven't seen Clara Riggins in twenty years. Most of them didn't even know she existed but they all know who this Tom guy is. According to one lady, Tom told her that he was Clara's grandson, but I triple checked, Clara doesn't have any relatives anywhere."
"Did we get a description from any of the neighbors?" Hotch asked her.
"Affirmative. They also gave me the make and model of Tom's blue van. It's a pretty common vehicle. I got a long list of registered owners. So far the three Tom's and Thomases on that list all check out."
"Alright, stay on it." He pointed.
"You know I will, sir." Garcia hung up.
"When we land, Dave, you, Deans and Morgan go to the house. JJ, you, Howards and Reid are with me at the hospital. We need to talk to the girls and find out everything they remember." Hotch instructed.
*********************************
One at the hospital, they waited until the Doctor left Sheila's room.
"Agents, thank you for waiting." He walked out.
"Of course. How is she?" Hotch asked.
"Looks like she had complications from a miscarriage. Her infection turned septic and we had to preform an emergency hysterectomy. And she has several old scars on her back. If I didn't know better, I'd say they were from a whip." The Doctor sighed.
"Any idea when she might wake up?" JJ questioned.
"There's no way to tell." The doctor sighed.
"What about Gina Bryant?" Reid raised a brow.
"She's doing much better, all things considered. Malnourished, dehydrated, a couple nasty cuts and bruises. But she should be okay. Physically, anyway." The doctor shrugged.
"Do you think she's able to answer a few questions?" Hotch titled his head.
"She was pretty agitated when she came in, so we gave her a mild sedative. But she has the same scars on her back, and she's got a bunch of old injuries that didn't heal properly. Broken ribs, tibia, a couple of fingers." He listed,"I hope you catch the guy who did this."
The Agents nodded and Fleur and Reid decided to wait in Gina's hospital room to talk with her when she woke up.
"Hi, Gina. My name is Jennifer. These here are my friends Fleur and Spencer." JJ introduced them.
Gina sat up quickly, looking at them.
"Hi." Fleur waved.
"We're with the FBI. Do you know what that is?" JJ asked her.
"The police?"
"Yeah, something like that." Fleur chuckled.
"I already talked to the police." Gina blinked.
"Well, we're a little bit different. Do you mind if we ask you a few questions?" Fleur asked.
Gina nodded slowly,"Okay."
"Can you tell me about the day you were kidnapped?" Fleur tilted her head.
"I went to the park. I forgot my sweatshirt, but I didn't want to go home." Gina began.
"Why not?" JJ blinked.
"That lady, Trisha, was mean." Gina told her.
"Your foster mother, Trisha? Trisha Gilmore?" Reid asked.
"Her kids, too. They said I wasn't worth the money they made off me." Gina nodded.
"So you went to the playground to get away from them." JJ sighed.
"I went all kinds of places. But mostly there."
"What happened that day?" Reid stood up.
"I saw Violet." Gina looked up at them.
"Violet. The girl you were held Hostage with?" Fleur nodded.
"She was waiting for her dad to pick her up." Gina looked down,"And that's when be came."
"Tom?"
"He had this little puppy. He asked me if I wanted to give him treats- He said he went crazy for treats. They were in his car.. But it wasn't a car. It was a van." Gina told them, tearing up,"Не opened the door, pushed me in and he hit me. I tasted my blood and my eyes were watery. And he said I'd better listen, or he would hit me again. We drove.. We drove for a long time. But I never saw the puppy again though. Never saw it- He was so little. I don't know where he went though, I'm sorry!"
"It's okay, it's okay." Fleur gently took her hand, giving it small squeeze.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.." Gina cried.
*********************************
"Gina, do you have any idea where Tom might be right now?" Fleur asked as Reid pushed Gina in a wheelchair.
"Maybe his disappearing place." Gina suggested.
"His disappearing place?" Reid blinked.
"He'd always leave. I liked it when he was gone, even though he never left much food." Gina nodded.
"Do you know where the disappearing place is?"
"I didn't get to go. He only took Violet and Sheila once. They were more special." She answered.
"Why were they more special?" Fleur stood infront,".. Because they were good?"
"They never fought." Gina added.
"But you did." JJ nodded.
"I hated to call him 'Daddy', and I wouldn't say my name." Gina shook her head.
"What do you mean, you wouldn't say your name?" JJ tilted her head.
"Rose. He tried to call me that." Gina looked away.
"Did Sheila or Violet ever talk about the disappearing place?" Reid asked.
"It was a secret. It would make Tom mad if they did." Gina told him.
"Well, what about Tom? Did he ever talk about it?" Fleur tilted her head.
"One time. When he was nice. He brought pizza." Gina smiled slightly.
"Do you remember what he said?" Reid asked.
"That maybe one day I could go. Then.. Then he wanted to go behind the curtain." Gina looked away,"Sometimes I didn't fight as much after Sheila got there."
"Why was that?"
"Because we had to take care of her. So I tried to make him happy. But I made sure she remembered her real name, no matter what." Gina pointed.
"What about Violet? Do you know her real name?" Fleur tried.
"Just- Just Violet. Sometimes he called her Vi." Gina shook her head.
"Did Tom ever mention anyone called Clara?" JJ crossed her arms.
"She liked flowers. That's where we got our names. He called Sheila, Daisy." Gina explained.
"Did you ever see Clara?"
"No.. But sometimes I was good, and he let me go outside at night time, and we planted flowers. He said they were for Clara." Gina smiled softly.
*********************************
Rossi, Morgan and Elijah were stood outside the house, giving a background on their 'Tom'.
"Micheal Clark Thompson's mother died in childbirth, so he grew up with his father, Nate, who was married and divorced five different times." Rossi began.
"And each of his exes filed for divorce on the grounds of cruelty, adultery or both." Morgan added.
"Apparently his father had a predilection for prostitutes. He was even arrested once for having assaulted one." Rossi continued.
"Now, kids do what they see. This might explain the son's extreme misogynistic tendencies." Eliajh crossed his arms.
"And his violent streak. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree." Rossi sighed.
"Now, this man is smart, and he's manipulative. He was not only able to take advantage of the woman who owns his house, but he's somehow held the three girls hostage here for over a decade." Morgan shook his head.
"That took effort and dedication. This was important to him, like a Compulsion. He gets off on having absolute power and control." Elijah nodded.
That's when they heard an announcement from one of the police radios, an alert about a van matching the description of Tom's was spotted.
"It's him." Morgan realised.
*********************************
When they found Tom's van, they found Violet inside, and Tom tried to run but Morgan caught him. They took her back to the hospital and now, Fleur and Reid were going to speak with her.
"Hi..Violet?" Fleur slowly walked into the room,"My names Fleur."
"And I'm Spencer." He nodded as he closed the door.
"Uh, can we go now?" Violet stood up,"Me and my daddy, we gotta go now."
"When you say 'daddy', do you mean Tom?" Fleur asked.
"I don't.. Call him that." Violet shook her head.
"You know what's not actually his real name.. His name is Micheal Clark Thompson. Tom's just a name he made up." Fleur sighed.
"Kind of like your name. Violet." Reid tilted his head,"Do you remember your real name?"
Violet shook her head,"I need my daddy. We need to go."
"Where is it that you need to go? Maybe we can help you." Reid told her.
"He said you would do that." Violet narrowed her eyes.
"Do what?" He asked
"Ask questions and lie. Especially about him." Violet nodded.
"We know what he did to you, Violet. Gina told us everything." Fleur told her.
"You found her?" Violet gasped,"Did you find Daisy too?"
"Her real name is Sheila, Sheila Woods. And yes, we did." Reid nodded.
"She was super sick. Is she okay?" Violet stepped forward.
"I'm sorry, but.. No, she's not." Fleur sighed,"The doctors did everything they could, but she didn't make it.. She died."
Violet looked like she might cry and she lowered her head, turning away from them.
'You don't have to be afraid of him anymore. We can help you." Fleur assured her.
"He said you would say that too- You don't know anything, okay?" Violet turned around and pointed,"I would be dead without him. He's the only one who loves me."
"Violet, please." Fleur sighed.
"I.. I gotta go. Please." Violet pleaded,"I've been good. I haven't done anything bad. Can I go now? Please.."
*********************************
Once Hotch had spoken to Tom, he came back to the rest of the team, including the boys who had turned up.
"Nothing to hide my ass, he's full of shit." Rossi scoffed.
"The preliminary M.E report does suggest that Clara Riggins died of natural causes." Reid looked up from his file.
"I think he's telling the truth about that. He didn't kill her." Hotch sighed.
"I'm sorry guy, I can't stop thinking about Violet." Fleur held her head,"She could not wait to get out of here, like it was urgent. It'd all she could talk about."
"Well, she had been held hostage most of her life. All this has to be a tremendous shock." Rossi pointed.
"No question about that, but that wasn't it. It's like she had somewhere specific in mind and she needed Thompson to go with her." Fleur nodded.
"Well, he's conditioned her to depend on him for everything." Elijah crossed his arms.
"Exactly. You condition someone by doing something over and over again. Now, we know he repeatedly abused them. I don't think she was itching to get out of here to go do that." Fleur shook her head.
"Maybe he did something to reward her somehow." Rossi suggested.
"What if she has a child? Why else would she want to go to badly?" Fleur sighed.
"You know, that's not a stretch. Sheila Woods had a miscarriage. Maybe Violet brought one to term." Elijah tilted his head.
"We did profile he might be trying to fill some kind of void since he didn't have a family." Reid pointed.
"Yeah, but Gina Bryant never mentioned any baby." Rossi shook his head.
"Well, Violet could've had the baby before Gina was abducted. Gina wouldn't have even known about it." JJ nodded.
"Well, if we're right about any of this, that means there's another kid somewhere out there." Elijah realized.
"Then who's taking care of it?" Fleur looked at them all.
*********************************
After thinking about the possibility of a baby, Fleur went to speak to Violet herself to see if she could find out if it was true.
When Fleur walked in, Violet was sitting on the floor, at the side of the bed,"Hey, you okay?"
"How is daddy? Can we go soon?" Violet asked her.
Fleur sat down on the floor, crossing her legs,"Um.. We're working on it. I still have a few questions to ask you, okay?" She unlocked the iPad.
"What's that thing?" Violet questioned.
"Well, you can look at pictures on it." Fleur hummed, turning the iPad around to show Violet as a little girl,"Do you know this little girl?"
Violey shook her head in response.
"Her name is Amelia Hawthorne, and she is from a city called Indianapolis. And these.. Are her parents." Fleur switched photos,"That's George and Maureen. That little girl is you. You're Amelia."
Violet closed her eyes, shaking her head slowly,"Um.. My name is Violet."
"No, sweetie. Tom took you away from your family when you were only eight. You have been gone for fifteen years.. Tom is not your daddy. This man is.. I know what you're feeling right now, scared and confused. But I promise you, Amelia, I am your friend. Okay? And I'm here to help you but you have to trust me."
"O-okay.." Violet nodded.
"I need you to think back and try really hard to remember. Did Tom.. Did he ever get you pregnant? Did you have a baby, Amelia?" Fleur leaned forward.
"I can't talk about that. He gets mad." Violet whispered.
"He's not here." Fleur assured her.
"He gets mad if I even ask about.." She shook her head.
"I promised you I'm here to help. Which means you never ever, have to worry about him again." Fleur nodded.
Violet leaned in closer,"My sisters."
"Your sisters?" Fleur smiled.
"I got super sick. And then my belly got really big both times." Violet told her.
"Both times? It happened twice?"
"And then one day, they just.. Cane out. And it really hurt like crazy, but I got my sisters. Lily and Jasmine." Violet explained.
"..I have a sister, too. My daddy got me really sick too, everything happened the same as you did." Fleur nodded,"Her name is Adelaide.. Do you know where your sisters are right now?"
"Yeah, or course. They're in the disappearing place." She answered.
"Do you know where that is? I can take you there." Fleur smiled.
"Well, we have to drive. Can you drive?" Violet questioned.
"Yeah, but you need to tell me where to go. Can you so that?"
"No, I don't know- I don't know where it is. I always sit in back. He drives." Violet shook her head.
"You might remember more than you think." Fleur assured her.
"No. Daddy knows. He can drive. Just go and get him. Get him and we can go." Violet insisted.
"I'll be back in a moment, okay?" Fleur stood up.
Violet nodded slowly,"Okay."
*********************************
They begrudgingly allowed Tom to come and talk to Violet, to see if they could figure out where the other girls were.
"Daddy." Violet got up from her bed while Tom, Elijah and Fleur walked in.
"Hi, Vi." Tom smiled.
"Take a seat." Fleur crossed her arms.
"No, I want to be close to her." Tom shook his head.
"Not part of the deal." Fleur shrugged.
"Then give us some privacy." Tom looked at them.
"Not part of the deal, either." Elijah crossed his arms.
"Sit." Fleur hummed, holding out the chair.
"You've got five minutes." Elijah told him.
"You're hurt." Violet looked at him.
"Don't worry about that, it's nothing." Tom assured her.
"I'm sorry." She sighed.
"About what?" He raised a brow.
"My sisters. I had to tell them.. Please don't be mad, I had to."
"Now listen, it's alright, Vi. Okay? Really, it's okay."
"Did you get the groceries yet?" Violet asked.
"No, honey, I've been here the whole time just like you." Tom told her.
"Okay- But we can go now." Violet nodded.
"I have some bad news.. We can't go there today. We can't go there ever again." Tom sighed.
"But- No, we have to go to the store and it's close by the disappearing place. And we can be fast." Violet rambled.
"You're right, you're right, Violet, but I can't. These police, they don't think we should be together. They're going to break apart out family just like I told you they would." Tom explained.
"No.." Violet teared up.
"I just wanted to come in and say goodbye before they took me away." Tom told her.
"Well, when will you be back?" She panicked.
"Not for a long time.. A very long time. I would give you a hug goodbye, but they.. They won't let me." Tom sighed.
"No! I.. Please. Please can I just hug him?" Violet pleaded.
Elijah looked over at Fleur before nodding slowly,"..Okay."
Violet was quick to hug Tom, Tom hugging back,"Oh, Violet, I'm gonna miss you. My beautiful Violet." He leaned closer to her.
Upon hearing that phrase, Violet gasped slight and stepped back, out of Tom's reach. Elijah nodded to the door and JJ walked in with Violet's parents.
"What is- What's this? Who are these people?" Tom looked back.
"These are her parents. And that gentleman right there is her real daddy." Elijah pointed.
"Huh. She knows who her real daddy is. Daddy is the only one who loves you.. Isn't that right, Violet?" Tom pushed.
"..No. My name is... Amelia. Amelia. Amelia. Amelia- My name is Amelia!" She yelled, grabbing Tom and shoving him into the wall.
"No! No!" Tom cursed as they tried to get Amelia off Tom.
"My name's Amelia! You hear me? Amelia!" Amelia shouted as they were finally separated.
"The deal is off! You hear me?!" Tom shouted as he was dragged out.
*********************************
"Okay, so, this is a little bit of a long shot, but you said Violet asked if Thompson had gotten the groceries yet?" JJ raised a brow.
"Yeah, she said the store was right by the disappearing place." Fleur nodded.
"Well, we profiled he's a control freak. He likes order, which means there's a good chance he went to the same grocery store every time. If we can figure out which one, we can narrow the search." JJ explained.
"Well, he would need the same kind of space, and he would want it close." Rossi shook his head.
"Sir, yes, sir." Garcia answered the phone
"Garcia, I need a list of clients of Micheal Clark Thompson in the area." Hotch spoke.
"Methinks I can do that. Let's see. Bank accounts, invoices.. Bam. Eighty-three names. That is a scary long list." Garcia sighed.
"Alright, Garcia, you can eliminate anyone under the age of seventy." Morgan pointed.
"And they wouldn't just need to be elderly clients. They could also be disabled in some way. Anyone he could take advantage of." Elijah added.
"Oh.. Twelve names then." Garcia nodded.
"How many of them live near a grocery store?" JJ asked.
"Define near."
"Uh, within a mile." Hotch nodded.
"Well, there are 163 grocery stores in the greater St. Louis area. Two of them do. First up is ninety-one year old Herman Coker. He is a retired cop, World War 2 vet. No, I don't think it's him because he's got a very active Facebook account, thanks to his youngest daughter, Jan, who lives with him." Garcia explained.
"Okay, who else you got, Mama?" Morgan asked.
"Hold yourself. Fredna Nasee. Not much on her, she's a retired nurse, eighty-four years old. She's got a daughter who lives in Boca Raton... They don't communicate. No phone calls, no emails, nothing."
"Send us the adress." Hotch instructed.
"Done." Garcia nodded.
"Morgan, JJ, check it out." Hotch pointed.
They both stood up, leaving quickly.
*********************************
After rescuing Lily and Jasmine and reuniting them with Amelia and her parents, they went to grab Tom to finally take him to jail.
"Stand up." Hotch ordered as he walked in.
"We found them both, alive. Too bad you took that deal off the table. You'd be well on your way to club fed right now." Elijah smirked.
"Yeah, but don't worry. You're gonna make a lot of friends." Fleur hummed,"They're gonna love you in the yard."
Although as they turned the corner, the were caught off guard by a gunshot and quickly drew their weapons as Tom fell to the ground. Dead... Sheila's mother had shot him. Sheila's mother held up her hands in defeat, she did what she needed to do. Her daughter was dead.. And now so was he.
With that, they all had to return home with the thought that not everyone got their happy ending. Morgan sighed as they got home, hanging up his jacket by the door. As Fleur walked into the house, she felt a wave of sickness hitting her so she quickly headed to the kitchen to be sick.
"You okay, babygirl?" Morgan called to her.
"Just.." Fleur coughed,"..Tom, he just reminded me of Pierre." She lied.
"Oh, sweetheart." Morgan sighed as he walked in.
"Don't worry." Fleur sighed.
"Do you need me to get you anything?" He asked.
"Water?" Fleur looked back at him.
"Of course." Morgan nodded and he went to get her a glass of water.
"Thanks." Fleur sighed, looking down.
"Here you go." Morgan handed the glass to her, rubbing her back.
"Thank you." Fleur leaned back slightly,"..I would've done the same thing as Sheila's mother."
"I know." Morgan nodded,I don't blame her at all."
"Would you have done the same?"
"Of course."
Fleur nodded and took a drink of water,"I think I'm just gonna go lay down, okay?"
"Good idea." Morgan kissed her forehead,"Do you need anything else?"
"No, no. I'm okay?" Fleur shook her head.
"Alright, well you go get some rest. I'll be up in a few minutes okay?"
"Okay." Fleur kissed his cheek and walked upstairs.
"I love you." Morgan smiled.
"I love you too." Fleur hummed.
