Chapter 114 - The Hunt

Elijah couldn't sleep and decided to have a go on his pole. It had been a while and he didn't want to get all rusty. Except while Elijah was on the pole, Rigatoni had wandered in, getting under his feet.

"Tony, move your ass." Elijah looked down at him,"I don't want to squish you if I fall."

Rigatoni purred, looking up at him.

"Don't look at me like that." He pointed.

"Babe, who are you- Oh." Reid chuckled as he walked in.

"Apparently this is very intriguing to him." Elijah hummed.

"I mean, he's having fun." Reid shrugged.

"I'm having fun."

"Come here, baby." Reid lifted Rigatoni up.

Rigatoni meowed, pawing at Reid's face.

"Daddy's busy." Reid chuckled.

"But Daddy's also lonely." Elijah added.

"Want me to stay and watch?"

"Only if you want to."

"I think I will." Reid sat down on the floor.

"Well.. Enjoy the show." Elijah chuckled.

"I shall." Reid hummed.

Morgan yawned as he woke up, looking at the clock and realizing it was far too early before rolling back over to hold Fleur.

"What time is it?" Fleur mumbled.

"Too early.. Just go back to sleep." Morgan wrapped his arms around her.

"Your snoring is too loud." She chuckled.

"You're so rude." Morgan shook his head.

"I'm a truthful girl." Fleur hummed.

"Since when?" He questioned.

"Since always, thank you very much."

"And I'm supposed to believe that?"

"Mhm." Fleur nodded.

"Well, I'm not snoring anymore so sleeping shouldn't be an issue." Morgan pointed.

"I'm hungry now." Fleur shrugged.

"Of course you are." Morgan yawned,"What do you want me to get you?"

"Muffins." Fleur nodded.

"Any particular kind of muffins?"

"Hmm.. Lemon and blueberry."

"Well, I'll see what I can do, baby girl." Morgan sat up.

"Thank you." Fleur hummed, closing her eyes.

"Anything for you, sweetheart." Morgan smiled.

"Get some food for the kids too, hm?"

"I will."

"Love you." Fleur smiled.

"I love you too." Morgan hummed as he walked off.

*********************************

"Although the observable universe is continually expanding, there's really no way of knowing if the whole thing is gonna ultimately collapse into one gargantuan black hole." Reid shrugged as he spoke to everyone.

"Wow, there's actually something our little genius doesn't know." Morgan hummed.

"I will tell you one thing for sure. My universe is expanding and it is pretty fricking stormy." Kate pointed towards her pregnant belly.

"Gotta love nausea and vertigo." Fleur hummed.

"Which is why I got you these." JJ smiled, holding up some things to help Kate.

"You're the best." Kate gasped as her phone dinged.

"What's up?" Elijah tilted his head as he watched her expression change.

"I'm not sure. It's Meg, we have a panic code, 'Pepper', and I just got a text her saying 'Pepp'." Kate tilted her head as she began to call Meg.

"Maybe it's just an accident?" JJ tried to reassure her.

"Straight to voice mail." Kate cursed.

"Meg still acting out?" Morgan asked her.

Kate sighed and called Meg's friend's mother, eventually finding out that not even she knew where the girls were.

*********************************

Everyone quickly gathered in the Conference Room as they began work on their newest case.. Meg's abduction.

"Because of our work, I created very strict rules for Meg. That distress code, ut was given for a reason." Meg told them.

"Canning, I just sent you the GPS coordinates of their last known position. Set up neighbourhood canvasses and roadblocks." Hotch told her.

"On it." Canning nodded.

"It's not good." Garcia admitted, showing the video of the girls,"I got a shot of the girls from a video feed across the street from the library."

"Oh my god.." Kate covered her mouth as they watched the footage of both girls getting into a stranger's vehicle.

"Baby girl, capture that plate right there." Morgan crossed his arms.

"I already did. Searching." She nodded quickly.

"Look at the time stamp. I got Meg's text two minutes later." Kate pointed.

"Okay, plates are stolen and I have no shot of the driver." Garcia shook her head.

"Issue the AMBER alert with the girls pictures and the description of the van." Hotch ordered.

"Anything in the girls' email accounts?" Rossi asked.

"This is really discombobulated. I've got no texts, data or calls from the cell phone company servers for either of the girls." Garcia typed.

"Okay, so whoever took them planned this and got rid of their texts." Kate nodded.

"We're still up in the air about MO." Fleur sighed.

"Most likely scenario, she was lured via social networking." Reid told them.

"I'll have Facebook push the AMBER alert." JJ nodded.

"Alright, JJ, you, Deans and Dave go to the Davises' and check out Markayla's computer. You two talk to friends. And Garcia, Howards and I will come to your house, Kate." Hotch instructed.

*********************************

Once they had arrived at Kate's house, she began explaining everything to her husband, Chris.

"A strangers van? That's crazy, why would Meg do that?" He questioned.

"Remember that date she had with her classmates at the mall?" Kate asked him

"Yeah, when she was stood up by Bobby and Tyler." Chris nodded.

"What if it wasn't real?" Kate shook her head as she walked off.

"What? What do you mean?"

"Garcia, can you check Meg and Markayla's class lists for boys named Bobby and Tyler?" She asked.

"Yeah.. There's no Robert, Bob, or a Ty either." Garcia typed.

"See? It was a setup." Kate turned to Chris.

"So someone's been stalking our kid?" Chris blinked.

"Your being there that night saved them."

"This can't be happening." Chris shook his head.

"Help the Agents with the missing flyers and I'm gonna go look through her things." Kate pointed.

"Yeah." He walked off.

"Garcia, can you see if Meg has been emailing any boys?" Hotch asked her as he looked to Kate,"Anything missing?"

"Yeah, somethings wrong." Kate shook her head, calling Rossi.

"Rossi." He answered.

"Did Markayla take her good clothes with her?" Kate asked.

"Yeah, and some of her mom's makeup too." Rossi told her.

"Meg took her favourite jean jacket and boots." Kate sighed.

"These girls were definitely planning on meeting boys, just maybe not the ones they thought." Fleur shook her head.

"What gave you got?" Hotch asked Garcia.

"It's a ghost town. The hard drives are wiped clean. There's no instant messenger or Skype history. There's not even a username." Garcia groaned.

"Dave, can you turn on Markayla's computer so Garcia can scan it?" Hotch asked.

"Powering up now." Dave walked over, turning it on.

"Okay, I got it. Zilch on Markayla's, too. These perps are thoroughly thorough." She sighed.

"They took the two girls at once. This must be an abduction team." Fleur realised.

*********************************

"Go ahead, Kate." Hotch nodded to her as he out their call on screen.

"After we closed the Riverside torso case, I couldn't let it go, so I revisited the crime scenes and started asking questions." Kate began.

"Aaron, you looked at that case too, and the evidence indicated the torso killer was working alone." Rossi looked to him.

"Kate's working a different tangent." Hotch shook his head.

"I also kept tabs on missing women. There was a female jogger in Modesto, Eileen Banks, categorized as voluntary missing, but oddly killed in a car accident a few weeks later all the way in Maryland. She was never autopsied." Kate told them.

"How is that related to this?" Elijah blinked.

"She had been flirting online with a young, new boyfriend before she ran off, but it was the same Bobby in that picture from Sam. It must have been the same group that took the girls." Kate explained.

"If this is related to that case, then these abductors are mobile." Morgan realised.

"We'll get an emergency warrant, we'll exhume the joggers body and do an autopsy." Hotch ordered.

"I'll expedite it with Judge Lynch." Canning nodded.

"They got taken because of me. I was getting close." Kate cursed

"You were doing your job, Kate." Rossi assured her.

"The UnSub knew that grabbing a FBI agent's daughter would bring a firestorm down upon him." Fleur sat down.

"He's an extreme risk-taker." JJ shook her head.

"Okay, I got the 411 on this Bobby photo. It originated six years ago. Guys name is Sven Sorensen, from Sweden. He's now twenty-five and lives in Europe." Garcia explained.

"They used the picture to oure the girls." Kate sighed.

"Whoever did this is most likely not a pedophile but rather a preferential adult offender and long term child abductor." Fleur nodded.

"But he targeted the girls." JJ pointed.

"Yeah, because I was targeting him." Kate sighed.

*********************************

Luckily, Markayla had managed to get away from the abductors and was now getting looked over at the hospital.. Meg wasn't with her.

"They killed him.. They killed him right in front of me." Markayla sniffled.

"It's okay Markayla. You're okay now." Fleur assured her,"But we need to know, who were you meeting at the library?"

"It was supposed to be Bobby. We were talking to him for a few months online. He seemed so cool." She shook her head,"He said he had tickets to the 4for1 concert tonight, but he got stuck at work, so his mom picked us up instead."

"And she was driving the van?" Hotch asked.

"Yes. And she seemed nice, too, until we started asking about Bobby." Markayla nodded.

"And what did she do?" Fleur tilted her head.

"She locked the doors. Suddenly this guy popped up from the back and stabbed us in the neck." Markayla told them.

"Can you describe either of them?" JJ asked.

"They were white with brown hair- And the creepy guy they gave us to had a wide face.." She closed her eyes, trying to describe them.

"I'll get a sketch artist." JJ nodded.

"We had a plan." Markayla spoke up.

"What was the plan?" Fleur sat down on the chair.

"Meg said Kate taught her what to do. If they tried to hurt us, we'd buy time. Role play, get into their heads.. When they moved us, she'd distract them so I could run and get help." She explained.

"That's right. Kidnappers are most vulnerable at transfer point." JJ nodded.

"Did the older man say anything about where he was taking you?" Hotch raised a brow.

"No, he just said he had plans for us. And then I ran. And that's when he shot the younger guy for losing me. Look, I didn't want to leave Meg but she said you guys would never stop looking for her.. That's what she said." Markayla began to cry.

*********************************

"Meg Callahan has been abducted by a sophisticated sex trafficking ring." Hotch began the profile.

"It's a mobile operation. That's why it's gone undetected for so long." Canning added.

"A broker leads the ring with a male accomplice and a female accomplice." Morgan continued.

"They find victims and tailor their abduction plan to each of their vulnerabilities." Fleur continued.

"And then the victims are sold, most likely online to buyers who've been vetted by their team." Elijah crossed his arms.

"If it's trafficking, couldn't the girl be on a ship to Saudi Arabia by now?" An Agent asked.

"Well, we're hoping they lay low until the searchers are called off. A male accomplice was shot dead by the broker, suggesting infighting and tension." Morgan told him.

"This could give us an opening. We'll continue going door to door." Hotch added.

"Someone out there knows the leader of this ring. Don't be fooled by his facade. He is a master manipulator." JJ pointed.

"And his female accomplice is possibly a compliant victim, trauma bonded with the UnSub after years in captivity." Fleur crossed her arms.

"The group's sophistication level suggests their experienced, so we can expect them to use forensic countermeasures to hide and change the appearance of the victims before he sells them off." JJ sighed.

"As you all know, Meg is apart of this family. We do not rest until she's home safely. Thank you." Hotch stepped down.

*********************************

"Okay, here's my news flash. In the tri-state area, there have been half a dozen questionable missing persons cases." Garcia told them.

"Try the whole country." Rossi sighed.

"Alright, uh.. California to Maine, there have been fifty in the last seven years." She nodded.

"This can't all be this Unsub's group, can it?" Rossi asked.

"My thoughts exactamundo, good sir. Okay, uh, there were two accidental deaths that happened at the same time but 2,500 miles apart." Garcia informed them as she typed.

"If they're trafficking girls, why would they kill them?" JJ wondered.

"All with different MO's too." Morgan pointed,"Car accident, fire, shooting, drowning. This isn't just one group, they're different killers."

"So there must be a serial abductor and the torso killer was just one of his customers." Reid realised.

"What the hell kind of trafficking is this?" Canning questioned.

"This isn't sex slavery. They're selling victims to serial killers." Hotch blinked.

*********************************

"The operation's actually simple. The killers get to live out their fantasies and in exchange for supplying their victims, the brokers make them agree to a disposal method." Hotch explained.

"This way he and his team are insulated from the investigation." Rossi nodded.

"Just like in the torso case, the behavior and the forensics of the kills will only lead us to the customer who actually did the killing, not the broker." Reid told them.

"He's smart enough to protect his network by encrypting all communication with his customers." Fleur sighed.

"So if we can capture a killer while he's online, then Garcia can hack his system and lead us right to Meg." Morgan realised.

"Just say the word." Garcia looked up.

"Garcia, the accident taht killed the jogger in Modesto, Eileen Banks. Who hit her?" Hotch asked.

"Marcus Townsend hit the car over the embankment. He was admitted for minor injuries and then released." Garcia typed.

"What's his background?" Canning raised a brow.

"Uh.. Searching. Holy heck, his license, registration and insurance are all bogus." Garcia gasped.

"Well, if it was a car crash, they would have checked his blood alcohol level at the hospital." Elijah pointed.

"Garcia, run the DNA of that blood sample through CODIS." Fleur turned to her.

"Okay, he's on a sex offender registry. His real name is Miles Hendrick. He started off stalking a neighbour's kid and got busted in the elementary school bathroom."

"Now he's graduated to this. Where does he live now?" Rossi asked.

"Largo, Maryland." She told them.

"Let's go." Hotch nodded.

*********************************

Elijah and Rossi were currently interviewing the man they believed to have sold Eileen Banks, Alex.

"I didn't know FBI chicks could be so hot." He commented.

"We have an electionric trail that proves that Miles Hendrick bought Eileen Banks from you." Rossi stepped forward.

"Where's Kate? I want to talk to Kate. I'd be much more willing to talk to Kate." Alex told them.

"And as soon as we get through the firewalls of the other buyers we'll have you for those kills too." Elijah told him.

"Where is she, Alex?" Rossi crossed his arms,"It's not too late to stop. Who did you sell Meg to?"

Meanwhile, Reid and Fleur were interviewing the female accomplice, Paige.

"I don't know." She looked down.

"You're lying Paige. We already found three girls hidden in your basement. Add that to the rest of the murders, and you're gonna be in prison till the day you die." Fleur crossed her arms.

Paige turned in her seat, facing away from the pair.

"Why are you protecting him? Cause you know he is over there right now, selling you out, making it seem like it was all your idea." Fleur sighed.

"That's what psychopaths do, Paige. They play people. Alright, let's help you out and tell us where Meg is." Reid pointed.

"She's long gone. She could be in Dubai by now getting chopped up in a blender. Or in Kansas, laying in one of my sick clients barns saying, 'there's no place like home." Alex hummed.

"None of that's true." Elijah shook his head.

"You know what's great about the Internet?" Alex leaned forward,"It's therapy for sick minds. Before, you thought you were alone. But now, one click and realised you've got family... Come on fellas, where's my favourite agent? She afraid to see me?"

"It's all about the hunt for you, isn't it, Alex?" Elijah asked, crossing his arms.

"But you don't have rhe balls needed to kill, so you palm that off on others." Rossi hummed.

"They teach you that in FBI school?" Alex raised a brow.

"We know exactly who and what you are." Elijah glared at him.

"You're a sexually diverse thrill seeker, always looking for a new way to get off." Rossi crossed his arms.

"Ooh." Alex hummed.

"And you took Meg to get back at Kate." Elijah added.

"You thought we'd blame their killers and we'd never know you existed." Rossi continued.

"But you didn't know that your site was vulnerable during the auctions, did you?" Elijah hummed.

"How dumb is that?" Rossi gasped,"Are you dumb, Alex?"

"I took her because I knew I couldn't get Kate. Do you have any idea how much a female fed would go for?" Alex smirked.

The two of them stared at Alex for a moment before leaving the room, to JJ.

"Well, Garcia found something. Turns out Paige's real name was Donna Mangold. She was abducted twenty-two years ago." JJ sighed.

"So we were right. She's trauma-bonded. We just need to break that bond." Rossi pointed.

"Hey Kate, so we just found out the female partner was abducted by Alex, but she's not talking." JJ sighed over call to Kate.

"Does she know that Alex killed their partner?" Kate asked.

"No. But we should use that. They could have been close." JJ nodded.

"So what bond is stronger than all others?"

"Mother and child." JJ realised.

"Exactly. You're going to have to build a rapport with Paige and then use it. That's my little girl out there. Every second she's with this sick freak, she's just buying time." Kate told them.

"We're gonna find her, Kate." JJ assured her.

"Please don't hold back." Kate hung up.

*********************************

After entering the house where Meg was being held, they heard her screaming for help from a distance. After following the screens, they saw a man with a knife in his hands and Meg hovering off the ground, her hands chained above her. JJ quickly shot the man, causing him to fall on the ground.

"Get me down! Get me down!" Meg shook her head.

"I got you- I got you, you're okay." Morgan assured her as he and Hotch worked on unchaining her.

"I did what Kate said." Meg nodded.

"Okay, it's okay." Fleur told her as they freed her.

"I did what Kate said.." She repeated.

After reuniting Meg with Kate and Chris, Reid and Elijah headed back to the office where JJ was sat at her desk, eating some of the pregnancy snacks.

Reid held onto Elijah's arm as they walked over towards JJ,"Not you too..Am I getting another godson?"

"Possible." JJ hummed,"Maybe a goddaughter."

Reid gasped and let go of Elijah, hugging JJ.

"Congratulations." Elijah smiled.

"Thanks Eli." JJ chuckled.

"You are most welcome." He nodded.

"Not that I'm wishing, but I'm kinda wishing for a goddaughter." Reid shrugged.

"We'll just have to see." JJ hummed.
