𖥻 chapter two
"those cliche, yet unforgettable
first meetings."

─ paris, 30/09/18 10:45 AM
mia walked down the dimly lit street, a lump forming on her throat, as she gripped on her messenger bag a little tighter, her knuckles turning from their natural rosie colour to a white and lifeless one.
this can be somewhat considered an alternative way of saying how much nervous this girl was. of course, it's completely understandable when it comes to your first day at your new job, and for someone as naturally nervous as mia, it was a nerve wrecking moment.
everything around her was so damn full of bliss and light, the sun risen up to its all majesty, his orange and soft yellow rays spreading warmth to the cold days of september. the smell of freshly baked croissants and cookies took over the small alley she walked past, as she sharply inhaled it all, her stomach growling from not having a proper breakfast.
she was simple with her attire, and she could be described as another one of those delicate figures of the paris city. the creamy brown turtle neck, in addition to the burned coffee jeans and the deep shade of red beret, mia looked like a normal girl on her early twenties, leading a life without worries in the city of lights and love.
she stepped inside the big building with the wide open windows, from where pots of colourful flowers were hanging from. in the lobby, nothing could really resemble a place similar to a subunit of the biggest fashion companies out there.
of course, there was a chandelier made out of expensive materials hanging from the white ceiling, in which angelic figures were dancing around of its base. other than that, it somewhat resembled a normal coffee shop, like the one her friend, kevin moon, was working on.
oh kevin, how much she misses the canadian who she grew up with, the boy who was there when she needed it the most, but now was all gone. no, they still kept in contact, all those years of friendship could not just go in vain, but with miles separating them, it was heart tearing and pretty much painful.
her and kevin have this kind of, let's say, invisible connection. it's like one is made for another, and vice versa. when mia is sad, kevin loses no time in comforting her, and if kevin is all disappointed with his art works, mia is eager enough to throw a pyjama party at her place, with the two all snuggled up in the couch, crying over a movie with fried chicken and ice cream on their lap.
when he moved out, it felt as if a big part of her heart left. both kevin and mia grew up in paris, when their families had respectively moved out from canada and south korea, and in all surprise, their apartments were nothing but a door apart.
now, she was ready to take one more step, and one more, maybe a bunch of them, but this time with no kevin above her head. as much as she'd like his presence around her by now, it's all impossible (in all honesty, kevin could fly over atlantic just for mia to feel better, but with university in the middle, it was not as feasible as they wanted it).
"good morning." a young lady cut her train of thoughts short, as she blinked a few times before putting on a small smile. "good morning. I'm here for an appointment settled on 11. my name is kang mia and here're my papers."
she let a small, pastel brown coloured envelope on top of the wooden counter, the lady nodding as she walked past another man and vanished herself inside of another room, then came back with a small object twinkling in her hands under the artificial light of the room.
"here's the key to access room 15, all you have to do is walk up the stairs and stop when you reach the second floor. walk down the corridor and you'll open the third door on your left. mr yeo is waiting for you in there."
all of these seemed rather confusing other than helpful to mia, but she did little to no time to find it. she stopped when her two feet stepped on the wooden floor of the second storey, as she looked around her. there were indeed many doors in there, but the specific one she was searching for was right in front of her. all she had to do was twist the knob and-
"FUCK OFF DUDE AND NEVER COME BACK EVER AGAIN! YOUR DESIGNS ARE NOTHING BUT SHITS!"
she backed up a bit, seeing how a tall figure almost stepped on her, angry cuss words and whines fumbling with the heavy steps that echoed around the empty corridor. mia blinked a few times for the nth time this day, her hand left in the position of ready to knock.
"you're kang mia, right?" she looked up to meet eyes with the person she was looking for, forgetting about the incident and now focusing on the hot stuff.
"it went all smooth and cool, but it would be much better with you in here, I had so much stress over it!" she said through the phone, with her one hand gripping on the strand of the messenger bag hanged over her shoulder.
kevin chuckled from the other side of the line. "marshmallow, you for sure know that this was something not so possible, as much as I wanted to. I know, friendship comes first, then education, but-"
"but to become a singer is what you love and cherish, never get me wrong, I love you more than music! kev, this is what you always say, and I've told you, it's all fine. no worries, your girl is strong." she stopped and looked at some cupcakes display, licking her lips in pure hunger.
"you know me so damn well." she could sense the smile on his lips, as she entered the shop with the many baked goods. "I'll call you some time later, stomach is calling."
with a small 'okay' coming from him, the call came to an end, with mia enjoying a big croissant filled with chocolate, as she took the many roads of paris, looking at the displayed goods and all.
she reached the park with a great view to eiffel tower, as a small gasp escaped her lips. she never failed to get amused by the building, and she started looking back to the many memories, where her and kevin visited the specific park from time to time, feeding the pigeons and just having the most interesting (to her point of view) conversations over life.
as she stared at her front, finishing off her croissant and ready to crumble the paper, someone oh so carelessly bumped into her, causing some of the remained sweet treat to fall on the floor. her eyes widened, a gasp coming from the culprit's side.
"I'm-I'm sorry-" a deep male voice oh so hastily apologized, as the culprit was about to walk away, yet mia was fast enough to grab his hand and bring him back to his position. when they met eyes, she was good enough to immediately recognize the male running out of mr yeo's office in this one's face.
"you shall be sorry to my stomach and my starved self. now, how can I finish my croissant, when you made it fall down? look, the pigeons are feasting today!" she pointed at a couple of the said birds running to the piece of sweet treat and pinching on it with their beaks.
the male scratched his nape in the most awkward way, as he hissed in defeat and looked at her. mia was able enough to take in all his features, as such a piece of a human being is not oh so easily being encountered in france.
he had way too much of the strong asian characteristics, eyes sharp and edgy, with eyelashes to the right size, complimenting his eyes well enough. surprisingly (for being a male) his eyebrows were well shaped (mia could swear they were better than hers), forming arches over his eyes.
his lips were not as thin as kevin's, which was partially something that she really did notice and internally made a comment about. they were pinkish and plump, kissable to say the least, and she could have already done such a thoughtless move, if this one guy hasn't dropped her precious breakfast.
"pay me back." his dark brown orbs glistened under the morning sun, as mia extended her hand and (as the guy supposed so) waited for money to be placed on her open palm. he clicked his tongue, nonchalantly searching around his hip pockets for coins.
"here, enjoy a good brunch, your stomach growling is like gunshots!" he said, as he put his hands on his pockets and turned at the balls of his heels, making the girl shake her head to actually wake up from the small trance she has gotten herself on.
"wait." surprisingly, he stopped, as she took a few steps, her small figure next to his towering one intimidating her. "what's your name?"
he didn't seem to think of it for way too much, as his head turned around, twisting all of his body. "lee juyeon." some steps, as his figure stopped once again, this time all of his body turning around and facing her. his hands were wide open to the sides, as if welcoming the girl into his embrace.
"let's meet again kang mia!"
"h-huh? how-"
