at the end of the speech charles made it

Marnie could hear the sound of Kelly opening the door, followed by footsteps as Heidi, Lily and Kika walked into the living room where Marnie was sat.

"Marnie baby!" Lily exclaimed, flopping down on top of the girl.

"Lily, love of my life." Marnie smiled, pulling her up to hug her.

"The rest of us are just irrelevant then?" Heidi pouted sitting next to Marnie.

"Never, just have to hug my soulmate first." Marnie smiled before turning to hug Heidi tightly. She then hugged Kika before sitting back in her original positioning.

"Max ordered Chinese takeout before he left so it should be here soon." Kelly informed them all. "And P is at a friend's house for the night."

"And I brought wine." Heidi held up the bottle with a smile.

"I'll grab glasses." Lily jumped up, walking into the kitchen and returning with five glasses a few moments later. Kelly opened the wine, pouring each of the girls a glass.

Just as she finished pouring Marnie's glass, the doorbell rang. Marnie jumped up excitedly, rushing to the door. She opened it, taking the takeout from the man's hand, thanking him before practically running back into the living room.

"Food's here." She spoke in a sing-song tone.

Each of the girls let out cheers as Marnie began dishing it out of the bag, Kelly quickly grabbed plates and cutlery and the girls were well away with plating their food up.

Once they had finished, they all sat back on the sofas, plates in one hand and wine in the others, laughing and joking before the conversation was changed to the reason they were all there.

"So Marnie... Lando, huh?" Heidi raised her eyebrows at her.

"She said she'd kiss his face." Lily told them all.

"Marnie!"

"No I didn't." Marnie stated loudly but Lily just stared at her. "Okay I said I would kiss his face is he said really cringey thinks like she the best person I've ever met to my face."

"That's cute." Kika smiled.

"I'm going to tell him that." Heidi responded.

"You're just of a menace as your boyfriend." Marnie informed her.

"And you wouldn't have it any other way, baby." Heidi replied with a smile.

"No I wouldn't." Marnie gave in.

"So how do you feel about him?" Kelly wondered.

"I don't know." Marnie shrugged. "He's nice and cute and funny, but... I don't wanna get hurt again."

"What do you mean?" Heidi asked.

"Is this what Charles was getting angry over in the group chat?" Lily wondered.

Kelly's eyebrows furrowed before she nodded in understanding. "Oh... this is about—"

"Yep." Marnie nodded.

"What happened Marns?" Kika asked.

Marnie let out a small sigh. "I just had like a really shitty boyfriend in college, he was kind of the reason I dropped out."

"What?" Heidi furrowed her eyebrows as she turned to look at the girl.

"Look there was this guy, Ryan, right, and I met him in like freshman year of college. And it was great and he was lovely and then we got into sophomore year and it started getting a bit toxic, y'know. Like he started getting more jealous, wanting to know where I was at night." Marnie explained. "In junior year he was really toxic. He wanted to know my every move, would stop me from seeing my friends, went through my phone. He told me that he didn't want me being friends with Max or Charlie anymore because girls and guys can never be friends and he was convinced they wanted to have sex with me. He never let me meet any of his friends or family despite being dating for two and a half years, he was secretive and I'm pretty sure he was also cheating on me. It was a real 'all too well' relationship."

"Oh Marnie that's horrible." Lily cuddled up next to her.

"I'm over it now." Marnie shrugged. "The day he broke up with me, he took me to the club because he had decided it time for me to meet all of his friends. So we went to this club and his friends were assholes right, real frat guys, dodgy. But Ryan reassured it was fine, and I was so suspicious because I was the only girl there but I was just too happy that Ryan was finally introducing me to his friends. But he got me really really drunk, decided to have a massive argument with me because apparently I was flirting with the bartender which I wasn't, called me a whore, dumped me and then left me in this club with all of his dodgy guy friends who were immediately all over me."

"What a dick!" Kika exclaimed.

"Right." Marnie let out a small sigh. "I was so upset and so drunk and when one of them put his hand on my arm and offered to buy me a drink before we could dance it out, I was so done. It was like everything had hit me, Ryan was so toxic and he knew what he was doing when he took me there. He never wanted to introduce me to his friends, he wanted to abandon me there so some other guy could make his way with me."

All of the girl huddled closer to the girl who gulped down the rest of her wine. "I managed to get out, said I needed air and I phoned Charlie. I didn't wanna ring Max I was scared of his reaction. Luckily, Charlie was already in Belgium for some reason so it didn't take him that long to get here. He picked me up, took me for maccies and then I cried in his car for three hours. He spent the next day taking me places to cheer me up because I loved Ryan so much, I did, and to be honest, I was just angry, like I had suddenly realised how much I had changed during my relationship with him and I wanted to be my old self again."

"That's why Charles is so protective?" Heidi wondered.

"Well after my break up, I kinda went off the rails a little bit." Marnie explained. "I kept getting drunk and missing classes because he was in all of them. And then by the time Max knocked some sense into me it was too late and it was either I dropped out or I failed out so I choice the option that kept my dignity. But Charlie made me promise I would never let a guy do that to me again and I would tell him every time something happened with a guy so when I didn't tell him about Lando he got upset."

"I see." All of the girls nodding in understanding.

"He's just protective." Marnie shrugged. "And I don't think he thinks Lando's gonna hurt me or anything. I think he's scared that I won't be able to handle it if anything happens, or I'm gonna go off the rails at the first sight of a failed relationship."

"That you're gonna give up too easily?" Kika wondered.

"Exactly." Marnie nodded. "Like I'm gonna run away because I don't wanna get hurt. He's trying to stop the self-sabotage by wanting me to tell him everything. Also I told him like three days ago I wasn't gonna have a boyfriend anytime soon so he now think I'm being secretive when I swear I'm not."

"We know." Kelly smiled at her.

"Lando seems to really like you." Heidi told her.

"So I've been told." Marnie responded.

"I know it's hard to get over old relationships Marns but you just need to push through this new one." Kika advised.

"Yeah we all had shitty relationships." Lily stated. "And while yours is most likely worse than some of ours it's still just a shitty relationship."

"Exactly. And you've got all of us to help you through this one." Heidi placed a hand on her knee with a reassuring smile.

"We are not going anywhere." Kelly added.

"And we all have great boyfriends who love to gossip so we will always know what Lando is thinking." Kika shrugged making them all let out soft laughs.

"Lando is nothing like Ryan, I know that." Marnie nodded letting out a breath. "It's just... weird."

"How so?"

"Like I spent two and a half years in a shit relationship with a dickhead and now this random dude who I'm not even dating has treated me better in two hangouts than Ryan did in our entire relationship." Marnie told them all. "It's strange... in a good way, but it's still strange."

"I get it." Lily replied.

"It's just gonna take some getting used to." Kika added.

"I know." Marnie responded with a small smile. "I feel like I should tell him, though."

"Maybe save that for like when you're actually dating." Heidi advised. "Or at least just before you're dating."

"You're probably right, don't wanna scare him off." Marnie commented.

"I don't think anything could scare Lando off at this point." Kelly told them.

The girls all let out laughs, continuing to eat their food and drink their wine until they were all full and tipsy and singing all too well ten minute version by Taylor Swift at the top of their lungs as a form of therapy, each of them switching between crying and laughing every few moments.
