Episode Five: Petrified Friends.
I stare sternly towards Eric, however inside of me I feel...relieved. It is as if Eric did me a favor.
"Well Eric..." I begin to speak. "You did it. You did it loud and proud. You killed a man."
Eric stares at Warrington's corpse.
"We have to get rid of that." I mutter.
"The body you mean?" Eric questions.
"Not just the body...Us too." I say. "Our identities Eric. Our records. We have to flee the state."
"How in the Hell are we supposed to do that?" Eric questions.
"We have to hide the body damn good. If they ever do trace us, they can't convict us if we hide it well enough." I say.
"Why aren't you mad?" Eric asks.
"I don't know Eric." I lie. "I don't know."
Eric stares at me a certain way, as if he knows I am lying.
"You know." He says. "You know why. You're grateful. We both wanted him dead."
I ignore that statement for I know he is right.
"Take the truck." I begin to speak as I toss him my truck keys. "Go down to Brackett's hardware and get six...no eight bags of cement. Hurry." I demand.
Eric nods and dashes through the front door. Activating my truck, he drives through the streets of our neighborhood.
I sigh out of clear emotion, but I fail to know which emotion I am sighing of.
After passing a moment of silence, I grasp the corpse of Warrington by his ankles. Slowly I drag the corpse in reverse towards the indoor entrance of my garage.
Luckily, several empty metal oil barrels were abandoned here by the previous owners of this house. I never bothered to discard them.
Grasping the handle of a barrel's lid, I pry the lid off of the barrel.
I notice a hacksaw on the construction shelf beside me.
This will be gruesome.
I grab the hacksaw and kneel beside Warrington's body. I begin slowly sawing off his right leg.
Meanwhile at Brackett's Hardware
"Why the hell are you buying eight bags of cement?" A suspecting cashier interrogates an impatient Eric.
"I'm...repaving a fucking patio just ring the shit up will you?" Eric demands.
The cashier, a man appearing to be middle-aged, stares at Eric with an irritated expression.
Eric and several employees of Brackett's Hardware assist in loading the cement into the cargo of Bennett's truck.
In an impatient hurry, Eric quickly enters the truck and activates it, zooming towards the exit of the parking lot.
"Come on, come on, come on!" He mutters, clearly irritated by the profuse traffic.
Finally he is granted the opportunity to exit. He swerves right, exiting the parking lot, towards his neighborhood.
Upon driving for perhaps 1500 feet, sirens begin ringing and colorful lights flash behind the truck.
"Oh shit!" Eric exclaims. "OK Eric just be cool...cool." He exhales.
A police officer approaches Eric.
"Wh-what seems to be the problem?" Eric nervously asks.
"What seems to be the problem officer." The police officer scolds.
"Yeah, whatever." Eric mutters.
"Your truck looks a little...shady." The police officer states.
"Shady?" Eric questions. "Um, w-what do you mean?"
"Get out of the truck buddy." The officer demands.
Eric slowly opens the door. A scared expression within his face as he exits the truck.
"Look pal," The police officer says. "...You left your blinker on, get back in your rig' and take it easy." He laughs.
Eric sighs in disgust as he deactivates the truck's turning signal.
"Take it easy bud, you're looking nervous." The officer enters his vehicle, chuckling quietly.
Eric reactivates the truck and continues driving.
Meanwhile, with Bennett
I stare at the cement garage floor underneath me. It is stained profusely with Warrington's blood. Currently, he is dismembered in a small pile beside me.
"Jesus Christ..." I mutter. "Hurry up Eric."
Suddenly, I hear what sounds like my truck arrive in the driveway.
I dash through the indoor garage entrance and through the kitchen, then through the living room where I approach the front door. Opening it, I discover it is not Eric. It is a gray Chevrolet Silverado.
It is my neighbor from four houses left of mine, Don Simmons.
"Hey Ben!" He greets me. "You got a pair of hedge clippers I can borrow?"
"Ah, well I don't know and I'm kind of busy at the moment." I explain.
Don Simmons has no consideration whatsoever. He has no resources for daily tasks therefore he begs the use of others.
"That's alright I can look." He says as he exits his truck and dashes towards the outdoor entrance of the garage.
"Don, no!" I yell, chasing after him.
"Holy shit!" He yells.
He is staring at the dismembered corpse.
I close the door and flick the nearby light switch, rendering the room dark as the night.
"You always were an open one Don." I say. "Even at the expense of others."
"Oh my god, Ben what happened? why did you do this?" Don questions worriedly.
"Because life fucked me over." I state.
In a swift motion I grasp a nearby axe. Raising is above myself, I slam the head of the axe down and into Don's cranium. Blood spatters for several seconds as Don collapses and quivers in his dying moments.
I grab the hacksaw...
Suddenly I hear another truck. I carefully open the outdoor garage entrance door. It is Eric, who is staring at Don's truck and at me.
"Eric, hurry up get in here!" I demand.
Eric exits the truck and runs towards me.
"Get in, get in." I mutter.
Eric enters the garage and I close the door behind. He gasps at the sight of Don's corpse.
"I had to Eric...He found out. Little rat." I attempt to explain. "This must be why I felt the need for you to buy more cement then we originally needed..."
"Holy shit... Dad." He quietly says.
"Don't worry don't worry!" I assure. "Let's go get the cement."
We exit the garage and begin retrieving the bags of cement. As soon as we complete the task, I grab a wheel barrow and a shovel.
"Go get the hose." I demand of Eric.
Eric does as told as I tear open the bags of cement, pouring them into the wheelbarrow.
Eric returns with the activated gardening hose. I swiftly grasp it and spray water into the wheelbarrow.
"Grab the shovel and mix that." I demand.
Eric does as I told him.
"Dad, I have to assume this has something to do with those barrels too?" Eric questions.
"That's right." I say. "We're petrifying these bodies. Grab that hacksaw and..."
"Um, and what?" Eric questions.
"...Nevermind. I need you to return Don's truck to his house, I will take care of the rest."
"You're becoming something Dad." Eric states before exiting the garage.
I ignore that remark and stumble towards Don's corpse. I grab the hacksaw and repeat what I did to Warrington's corpse.
Eric's POV
My father's becoming something. It's like in this past hour he went from a weak-minded neurologist to a psychotic murder schemer.
Yes, I killed Warrington. I started this, but it's like my Father knows how to get away with it. It's as if he was taught this.
Does he have a backstory?
Finally, I arrive in Don's driveway. I casually get out of the truck and walk down the sidewalk towards my house.
As soon as I'm there, I enter the garage.
Bennett's POV
Eric enters the garage as I am halfway complete dismembering Don's corpse.
Eric vomits at the sight.
"Jesus fucking Christ Dad!" He exclaims after vomiting.
I ignore him and continue.
"Pour about four, no six inches of cement in the open barrel." I demand.
Eric succumbs to the demand and does so.
"Now, throw in one of Warrington's body parts, cover it with a thick layer of concrete, and repeat." I instruct him.
Eric's does as told as I lacerate each of Don's lifeless limbs.
"And...I'm sorry you have to do this Eric." I sincerely apologize.
"It's my fault." Eric replies. "I killed Warrington."
"No..." I reply. "Warrington killed himself by killing your Mother!"
Eric stares at me with a surprised expression.
Soon Eric completes cementing Warrington's dismembered corpse. I am still dismembering Don's corpse, but I am nearly complete. Without order Eric grabs Don's dismembered limbs and repeats the cementing process.
As soon as we complete cementing both corpses, we tightly close the barrel lids. We have used two of the four barrels we have.
"What now dad?" Eric questions.
"You remember that quagmire swamp near Hawkins Creek?" I reply.
"Yeah," Eric replies. "I remember we used to visit there when I was a toddler."
I sigh. "Let's visit there one more time..."
The End.
