Ohio's Witch Tower
The Lookout Tower of Ohio
Dedicated to chalenaa
Introduction -
The Ohio Witch Tower is also known as 'The Frankenstein's Tower' which is located inside the Dayton Forest. The structure of this tower is no less than a castle. Year after year it was seen connected with different urban legends.
History -
According to one of these legends, the tower was built at the time of civil war and when a woman heard the news of her husband getting killed in the war, she committed suicide from the top of the tower and from that day onwards, this tower became cursed. But we cannot accept this story as a true one because this tower was built in the 1940s and the civil war ended long before that.
According to the second story, a group of teenagers took shelter because of a stormy night and they all got killed due to a lightning bolt from the sky. 2 of them were still alive and were screaming for help all night but their cries were difficult to hear from the middle of the forest, so no one could come to help them and this tower got cursed from the same day. Now again there is no evidence of this story being real.
But there is a third story which is very similar to this and it was also featured in the local newspaper. The third story is of Peggy Harmeson and her boyfriend Ronald in 1967, who had taken refuge in this tower to escape a severe storm. Both of them had entered this tower at 7:30 in the evening, but the next day, their bodies were found from the tower. According to the autopsy report, Ronald's face and chest were burnt by a lightning bolt, and Peggy's dead body was found in the evening on the 11th step of the tower in the same state. People connected this incident with the earlier stories and it also became a part of the haunted incidents of this tower.
After this incident, rumors started spreading as soon as the tower got closed, as if anyone who goes inside the tower saw the burnt face of that girl, and even after many attempts and even today, the bloodstains of that girl can't be cleaned from the stairs.
Incidents -
In one summer, 2 Ghost Chasers Spector Inspectors decided to explore the place. Both of them tried to communicate with Peggy by going to the basement of the tower with the help of Ghost Meters and Electromagnetic Fields and recorded the entire process on a videotape. At first, they didn't feel anything but all of a sudden their recorder fell and broke, after which all of the sensors became active. They began to hear laughter from the top of the tower. Ongoing up, they saw fresh blood lying on the 11th step. One of them saw someone running around the main gate of the tower and as he chased after him, he found himself in a room where a burnt person was standing in the corner facing the wall and those people quickly left from there, as expected they couldn't pick up their recorder and hence it became very difficult to prove the presence of any paranormal activities. To date, they don't like to talk about it and call it the most frightening experience of their career.
After these statements by Spector Inspectors, many more strange stories related to this started to appear which were, even more, scarier than the earlier stories.
It is said there is a pentagonal design, on the top floor of the tower which was not there before. This tower was built in 1940 as an outlook tower as we can see up to 15 miles outside the forest and initially originally, there was no pentagonal design on its topmost floor.
There is no proof of this thing, but the story that came out caused the tower to be named 'The Witch Tower' by the people. Some nomads from the east had arrived in Ohio around the 1950s and these people had also brought some other people along with them. Over time, these nomads stopped appearing in Ohio and people assumed that they had moved to somewhere else, but some local people had noticed that this Nomadic group took shelter in that tower every night. That nomadic group never appeared in the daylight, but the locals found them in the tower every night. Due to their scary appearance, locals didn't feel like meeting them and those nomads too didn't like meeting them.
After a while, the locals realized that the people they thought were nomads were a cult and they had made this tower their shelter and temple. Locals felt that these people performed some kind of witchcraft where they are trying to resurrect dead people. This suspicion turned to reality when the local people found some dug-up graves of a nearby cemetery, and the dead bodies too started disappearing one by one. Apart from this, the locals found human organs lying at some distance from the tower. People believe that this cult has created the pentagonal design on the top of the tower that symbolizes the Devil's star. These people were the Devil worshippers and this design was a part of the ritual wherein they worshipped the Devil by giving him the dead bodies or human organs, mostly heads as a sacrifice.
Due to these stories, this tower also came to be known as 'Witch Tower' aka 'The Frankenstein's Tower'.
Currently, the main entrance of this tower has been sealed with cement and its 3 windows have also been ironed so that no one can climb up and enter it. But even today people try to enter it in the desire to explore it. Many local boys have climbed to the top of the tower wall and many of them have said that there is a hole in the roof of the tower which proves that the bolt of lightning has struck it many times. Many people have confirmed that after seeing the pentagonal design they have experienced many bad accidents in their life.
Conclusion -
After the arrival of the Internet and drone technology explorers have shown the images of the tower which revive the stories related to it. There are some human drawings on the wall that might have been made by the local boys as a marking who dared to climb the wall and the tower. We can assume about the lightning on this tower to be real, but no matter how thrilling these sayings feel to us, the truth is that none of them has any proof available. This means that most of these sayings are fake as there are no proofs available. Due to these legends, this tower has now become an explorer spot and due to these haunting rumors, the people have also stopped going inside this tower. As in the case of police, they have closed it just because there had been lightning in the past many times and after Peggy's case, these things became extremely necessary for the security of the locals.
