Chapter 4- Port Angeles

Bella's POV

Hearing the screech of tires up my driveway, I wheel outside.

"Ready to go, Bella?" Jessica asked, parking and getting out of her car with a smile.

"Yep. Here are my mom's keys for her van." I clarified, "We're taking her van because it's wheelchair accessible."

"Sure, let's go" she urged me.

Wheeling into my normal spot in the back  of the van, and locking my wheelchair in place I felt giddy with happiness. Jessica was the first real friend I've had since I'd moved to forks after the accident. She didn't have that sympathetic voice that everyone else had all the time, even though that was what she had been like when I first met her.

"And . . . we're here." Jessica announced, a little over an hour later.

Looking at the huge, inviting building looming above me, I smiled and excitedly rolled myself down the handicap ramp, out of the ramp.

"So .  .  . which store are we going to first?" I asked, eying the huge Port Angeles Mall Directory.

"That one!" Jessica pointed excitedly at a store, its windows filled with gorgeous ball gowns.

Rolling into the store, Jessica immediately squealed and started taking the most stunning dresses off the racks. After 10 minutes or so, she had an armful of dresses, so I suggested her to go try them on and get rid of some before looking for others.

"That one for sure." I proclaimed, pointing at a stunning pink dress that hugged her curves, an hour later. "It looks the best on you."

"Okay, sure." she decided, "But first, let me go put these other dresses back." Jessica remembered.

Going through the many, many isles of accessories in the shop, I picked out some accessories for Jessica to try on.

"Ooh! Look at this necklace!" I gushed, picking up a gold necklace, "It goes perfectly with your dress. Oh, and you already have hoop earrings at home right? Now, for the heels. Do you want this super high pink one, or these low black ones?"

"Oh, I have hoop earrings and I'll go with the high pink ones." she decided. "Bella, you don't know how much I appreciate you coming on me with this shopping trip. You've been a great help."

After purchasing the items, we drove home.

"I'm still coming over to your house after school before prom to get you all ready for Mike, right?" I inquired as I went into my house."

"Yep, see you at school!" she smiled.

---------------- A Few Hours Before Prom ----------------

"Bella, let's go!" Jessica shouted, pushing me into me out of my mom's car into her house.

"Bells, I'll pick you up at seven, m'kay sweetheart?" my mom asked from the car.

"Okay, bye!" I yelled in reply.

We headed immediately for the bathroom, where we pulled out our supplies. "Okay, Jessica. Take a shower, put on your dress, put on a robe, and sit down." I instructed, gesturing to the vanity chair.

After she was all clean and ready, I sat her down and began to do her hair. "Okay, Jess, I'm gonna do your hair up and out of your face so you can dance, 'kay?  I'll probably do it in a secure bun so it won't fall out while you're dancing, and most of all, because you'll look good with a bun." I mused, turning her chair towards me and studying her face. "Hmmm . . . not too much make up, because your face naturally pretty. Maybe some eyeliner, mascara, blush, and lip gloss? Lipstick is a bit too much. Oh yeah, and a touch of eyeshadow."

A few hours later, I was just adding the finishing touches, as I thought about how strong the bond of our friendship was already. I felt like I've known her for years, even though I'd only met her when I started attending Forks High a month and a half ago.

"You look gorgeous Jess!" I exclaimed, "Mike is not going to know what hit him, and -"

Blushing a brilliant red, Jessica interrupted me, "I can't thank you enough for getting me ready! I really appreciate it. It's too bad you aren't coming. I can't wait!"

"Nah, it's fine." I mumbled, and then looked up to the sound of my mom's van's horn blaring from outside. "Anyways, my mom's here, see you on Monday!"
