XX. Faith (And Other Cywydd Llosgyrnog Poems)
Faith
They say magic is just in books
But I've gazed with observant looks
Cast unbaited hooks into streams
Think I can scrape by through pure faith
Till folly steals life like a wraith
Too tightly we embrace dreams.
Lantern
Give me a lantern so I can
Be like you, my dear older man
When I began, I knew naught
And wisdom was not my first name
But she's to which I lay a claim
That great prized dame – she I sought.
Statue
She stared at her statue at night
The woman's face had not a blight
And with a grave fright, she thought
That this would be her history
A flawless, perfect mystery
Consistory, judge her not.
Glass
Why is this world not made of glass
Something I often think to ask
People are brass, hard to see
And it's confusing to my eye
Why people would much rather lie,
Say that they're fine – but not free.
Mechanical
I view the world as technical,
Metal, cold, and mechanical,
Tyrannical? That's quite true,
But I can't find a different lens,
Write with something that's not black pen
I played with them, and with you.
