Chapter 29:
Emily's POV:
The only thing to do is retrace our steps and hope we can find our way home. Sophie, Will, and I all walked together back to the room filled with instruments and created another worm-hole.
I waved to the blonde me and Error and teal haired Sophie before we jumped in. They looked so confused. I didn't blame them, I was confused too.
We went back through the castle dimension, out to the field and created another wormhole. Then we were back in the science dimension and did the same. I walked through them all in a daze, just happy to be able to breath normally again. My heart rate still hadn't gone down from when I almost got NOT stabbed. I walked quietly behind my two only friends in the whole world, worlds that is.
We walked through the masked dimension, careful to stay on the sidelines and away from people.
Sophie and Will led the way down an unfamiliar street, smashing a bead onto the dirty, cemented ground. We all jumped in and came out in a city. They led me along to a bus stop.
I was so tired...after all these days of hectic shenanigans I was ready to sleep for a thousand years.
We climbed on the bus, throwing some money at the bus driver as we trudged to the back. Once I had taken my seat, I pulled my iPod out of my sweatshirt and stuck my earbuds in. The familiar sound of Rin and Len shooting Japanese lyrics into my brain met my ears. Ahhh...a sense of normalcy.
After a few songs, I felt a tapping on my shoulder. I pulled out an earbud and turned to Sophie and Will.
"What are you listening to?" Will asked with a weirded out expression. "They're screaming."
Shoot. What's the point of earbuds if everyone can hear what you're listening to anyway!? Besides, every time I try to explain the fact that I listen to Japanese music people get weirded out...not to mention that they aren't REAL people.
"Um...I listen to the vocaloids..."
"Who are they?" Sophie asked curiously.
"Um...they're digital singers...and uh...they sing in japanese..." I stammered.
"Can I listen?" Sophie asked.
"Uh...sure." I handed her my iPod.
She sat listening for a while, her face absolutely unreadable. Why am I so nervous about what they think about my taste in music?
After a while she handed my iPod back.
"Cool. I kind of like them!"
Will grabbed my iPod and listened too, while I used Sophie's iPhone to look them up so I could show her what they looked like.
Ten minutes later they were arguing about who liked the vocaloids better, and who had been obsessed longer. It was a long, amusing bus ride.
Finally they got up at one of the stops and I followed them. "I haven't been here...was this the way you guys came?"
"Yeah. Unfortunately I think we need to retrace our steps." Will nodded.
"Why is that unfortunate?" I wondered.
"Because I have a two second memory." He rolled his eyes.
"Well I have a dory memory and that's worse." I shot back.
"Okay, I'll try to be the one to remember the way to go, but don't count on it." Sophie cut in dazedly.
I laughed as they led me down the sidewalk for a while. Then we made our way into an alley and the ground OPENED UP! Will led the way down a really long staircase and into a dark room where a man was yelling random words while flinging things across the room.
"Hey Aayam!" Sophie called.
The man paused mid throw, saving the glass beakers from being shattered. "Eh? Oh you guys again. Hold on..." He set the beaker down and counted us twice, his finger resting towards me both times.
"Weren't you a boy before?"
"Ummmmm....no?" I blinked.
The man, Aayam, looked back and forth between me and Will for about five minutes. "Are you twins?"
"No." I replied at the same time that Will said "Yes." Then we switched.
"Technically we're the same person." Will nodded.
"Really? But you're from the same dimension..." Aayam stroked his beard. "Interesting. I've never met a dimensional anomaly before. I'm assuming you haven't caused any disturbances in the space time continuum since I'm still alive..."
Will and I exchanged a glance.
"So you're saying we're from the same dimension...and that's not normal?" I asked.
"It most certainly is NOT normal to have TWO originals of the same person born in the same dimension..." He continued stroking his beard which was thoroughly singed.
"Couldn't we just be twins?" I asked.
"Not possible. Although if any human...you call them doctors I believe...tested you they would say you were."
"Cool. Um...we need to get home." Will announced.
"Yes yes...of course." Aayam nodded. "It's just...were there any strange side effects when you first slid into a new dimension?"
"Not really sure what the side effects would even be." Will shrugged.
"Intense pains in the head? Vomiting? Red blood cell damage?" Aayam kept on counting off different unpleasant side effects.
"Okay okay! Only the headaches but that was only when I traveled with my copy." I waved my hands to try and get him to shut up.
"Innnnnnteresting."
"Emily needs a bracelet." Sophie piped up. "Then we're going to be on our way home."
Aayam nodded and ran over to a wooden table and snatched something off of it, thrusting the jewelry into my hand.
"Okay bye!" Will and Sophie called, dragging me back out of the strange man's lair. I can add entering an underground jewelry shop to the list of things I never thought would happen in my life.
We walked to Auntie Kim's house and got a ride from her. She hadn't seemed to notice we had been gone and gladly drove us home. She dropped Sophie off at her house first.
I gave Sophie a big goodbye hug. "We'll see each other soon!" I promised.
"I hope so!" Sophie smiled sadly. "I'm going to miss you guys so much! At least we can all text, and talk via minecraft skins, right?"
"Yeah." I sniffed a little.
Will hugged Sophie goodbye too, but way more awkwardly, which I teased him about in the car on the way to our house.
Mom and dad were downstairs making dinner. I knew that once I was back in my home dimension, I wouldn't have a dad anymore, and I wouldn't have a twin brother anywhere nearby.
Will and I made our way upstairs and to our beds.
"I woke up in my bed so I should probably slide there." I declared slowly.
"Yeah, I woke up on the floor." I laughed and twisted the newly acquired bracelet now on my wrist nervously.
"Well...guess I'll see ya around." Will smiled.
"Yep." I plucked a bead of the bracelet and fondled it between my fingers hesitantly.
"Ready?" Will raised a bead of his own.
I nodded and we both chucked the beads onto the ground.
The familiar darkness swarmed my vision as the world I met my best friends in faded from my view.
