Chapter 18: Going Inter-Dimensional
Emily's POV:
My eyes burned from the sudden light that shone when I opened them.
Where was I?
Good question.
Oh flip I'm talking to myself again.
Well then SHUT UP!
FINE!
Gosh I'm so weird.
I groaned from a sudden pain that came flooding into my brain.
"Sorry I had to hit you, but it was the easiest way to get you here." A voice laughed satanically from across the room.
"Who are you?" I mumbled. It hurt a LOT to talk, which is unfortunate cause I LOVE to talk.
"What you don't recognize my voice?" The girl stood and came closer.
Oh my flip it's me.
"Shocking isn't it?" She laughed again when she saw my expression. Should I call her SHE or I? I might just call her SHE cause otherwise it's going to confuse me.
"Where am I?" I asked. The room was super dark and I could hardly see my own hands, which weren't actually tied up. In fact i wasn't tied up at all. What kind of kidnapping is this?
"In a dark room, but I figured you already worked that one out." She answered.
"Yeah I KNOW. I meant..."
"Oh I know what you meant. And no, we aren't in either of the dimensions you're thinking of. This is a whole new dimension that you won't know your way around." She explained. My gosh I want to call her Emily but that's confusing too.
"Okay well why the heck am I here? Cause..."
"Because Sophie took Will and you thought Will was going to take you?" Emily finished for me. Yup, just like I thought. That was confusing to think.
"Uh yeah, so why am I kidnapping myself?"
"Because I need your help."
"You could have just ASKED!" I cried. "What kind of idiot..."
"I can't have Will or Sophie here okay?"
"Is that why I'm not tied up?" I inquired.
"Pretty much, yeah."
"So you're NOT my evil twin?" I asked.
"Well I could say no, but its going to be hard to convince you." Emily smiled.
I nodded.
"Okay come on. We have a LONG journey ahead of us."
"Where are we going?" I have so many questions and every time she answers another one just pops into my head. It must be annoying.
"We're going inter-dimensional." Emily explained, helping me up.
"Which means..."
"Which means we have to go to...um I don't know what to call them...uh...warp points?" Emily cocked her head.
"Wow that REALLY clears things up." I smirked.
Emily smiled. "Ya know what!" She swatted at me. "It's hard to explain this! You only went inter-dimensional ONCE and that was by accident!"
"Yeah it was weird. And it HURT." I rubbed my still throbbing head.
"I'm surprised it didn't kill you." Emily agreed.
"WHAT!?" I cried.
"The way you travelled was by accident. You weren't focused and it should have killed you." Emily explained.
"So uh...I have just one question..." I started.
"Just one?" Emily teased.
"Okay no, I have like fifty but those can wait. Um...am I going to die?" I asked. I didn't like the sound of going inter-dimensional very much.
Emily laughed. "Not as long as you're with me. Here you'll need this." She tossed a creepy mask at me.
"WAH!" I cried and slapped it before it hit my face. I picked it up and studied it. "Okay why do I need to wear this?"
"Okay the closest I can get to this making sense is saying that this is a post-apocalyptic dimension."
"Understood." I nodded. Of course I didn't actually understand but I put the mask on. Emily put one on too.
"Okay follow me and try not to look anyone in the eye okay?" Emily took my hand and we walked out of the building.
It was dark outside. Dark clouds blocked out the sun and rain was pattering down. I coughed after inhaling the smoky and toxic fumes that were in the air.
"I know, it's terrible." Emily choked.
I studied the other people I saw. Everyone was pretty much going about their day normally. And everyone was wearing a creepy mask. Almost everywhere I looked I saw missing children posters. That really helped ease my nerves.
As we walked someone caught my attention. It was a little boy. There were no other children on the street.
He was wearing an alien mask. He was standing on the street with a cold, dead look in his eyes. He met my gaze and I quickly looked away.
"What's up with that kid?" I asked Emily.
"What kid?." Her voice came.
"Right over..." I lifted my hand to point but the boy was gone. There was nowhere he could have gone without me seeing and yet he was gone. "He's gone!" I cried.
"Sh..." Emily shushed me. "It's okay, certain people in this dimension can see the ghosts of children who were taken."
"TAKEN!?" I screeched.
"SH!" Emily shushed me again and looked quickly both ways to see if anyone was looking at us. "Yeah, nobody knows what it is that takes them...but it isn't human that's for sure."
"What do you mean NOT HUMAN!"
"I mean that the reports of missing children, the story is always the same." Emily whispered. "Their family reports that they had started talking to themselves...and then one day they would go on a walk and just never come back. Then there were reports of people who said they had SEEN the children. However they could never catch them because the child would always just disappear somehow."
"But maybe the kid just ran away from their family and didn't want to get brought back..." I began. There had to be some explanation for this...right?
"Yeah well it gets weirder." Emily lowered her voice even more so I really had to strain above the sound of the trains and cars to hear her. "One time a little girl was sitting on a train when all of a sudden a boy appeared sitting in front of her. She started talking to him when all of a sudden the back of his shirt lifted up and he started screaming: "Tasukete! Tasukete!" The girl didn't know what to do and so she jumped forward to grab his hand, but all of a sudden he disappeared. Just as suddenly as he had appeared, he was gone." Emily shuddered. "The little boy was one of the children who were...taken."
Tasukete. I know that word. It's Japanese for "help".
I inched a little closer to Emily. "I don't like it here." I whispered.
"We're almost at the...uh...warp point." She comforted.
"Good." I don't want to stay here any longer than I had to. This place was giving me the creeps.
