49: CHRONICLES OF CORLOS (PART 5)
I didn't like this feeling. I wasn't fond of this feeling at all. I was taught by Guardian that if I wanted to say something, I should just spit it out and not beat around the bush. I took that lesson to the heart and that was probably the first lesson that he shared with me that I actually injected into my life and I did it flawlessly.
I spat on his ugly face.
I didn't get why he was disgruntled with me after that. I was only applying what I learned from him. Guardian can be so confusing.
"What's the matter Corlos? You look like you're going to destroy the next person you see," Kogen commented and with his own words he realized that he needed to get out of my view or else he will be the target of my destruction in which he foretold with his own comment.
Kogen slowly backed down from in front of me and ambled beside me.
It was a pity that we were not allowed to travel by air. Kogen told me that Esgard (the God of this world) was very particular about other Gods using their supremacy above all other beings. He had three particular rules for other Gods who were merely visitors in His world and these were: No teleportation, No Flying, and No Destruction.
Obviously, I already violated the destruction part hence I should make the most out of my visit here because Esgard must be planning to ban me sooner or later.
"Someone is following us," I grumbled.
Kogen simpered and released a breath of amusement. "It might be just someone from your growing number of admirers."
I huffed and took Zeke close to my chest in a tight and vexed embrace. I haven't thought of a name for Zeke yet and this paranoid feeling I was getting was interrupting my creative mind.
"Relax Corlos; we don't have to attack anyone unless they attack us first. Let us be the wise ones," Kogen advised and started to guide me into deep breathing exercises with one of his hands placed behind me and then the other one on my chest.
Guardian never taught me deep breathing exercises. Usually, when I go into my Godly tantrums of lightning and storm (which was literal by the way) he would just ignore my behavior and tell me:
"After you're done emitting thunderstorms, you know where to find me."
I do know where to find him but most of the times Guardian will change his hiding spot.
I watched Kogen and tried to cooperate with him but his way of calming me just through breathing was simply making my temper worse. The air that I keep on inhaling inside my Godly lungs was only causing a wildfire.
After a few more breaths Kogen stopped and smiled. "There, better?" he asked.
I placed my hand on his chest with a soft hum in which Kogen took as a positive indication that indeed, I have calmed down.
Or did I?
"Oh Gods!"
I roughly kicked Kogen's shin causing him to lose his balance with a curse under his breath for the Higher Gods above us. I twirled around with a brand new raging desire to lash out on the next person who'll try to anger me.
"Come at me! Show yourselves you cowards! I want to see you bleed!" I screamed with the intent of a bloody murder.
One of my twin swords materialized in my hand with its length promising death to all those it'll reach and with a slimness declaring not weakness but a short patience to immediately execute a quick death.
A hand sneaked its way from behind me and sheathed my mouth. Kogen gave me a glare of annoyance.
"Why in the world did you do that?!" he questioned.
I pointed my sword above in reference to the people following us and answered back.
"To show them how I get angry!"
Kogen grabbed me by the neckline and I perceived his nares flaring from irritation. "So you use me for your demonstration? Corlos, we're on the same side here! You can't just hurt your allies!"
I pried his hold on me before explaining my side. "But allies should do sacrifices for the better cause!" I reasoned out.
Kogen hit his forehead with the heel of his palm before beginning to resume our trekking without me.
"Where are you going?!" I called out to him before jogging up the distance made between us.
"Leaving allies who are beginning to become some deadweight!" he snapped.
"You're heavier than me you know?"
Kogen glowered at me. "You're such a sardonic little imp you know that?"
"Oh that's new. I'll add that to my list of names. I've been called many names you know?"
At that moment Kogen's gaze softened and I cocked my head at curiosity. He released a breath of resignment and hauled me to his side. "Come here," he murmured and then pointed at my sword. "And keep your weapon away from me before you skewer me with it out of excitement."
I looked at my sword before dismissing it from its duty and held Zeke up. "You're not mad anymore?" I asked him.
He was quick to recover his patience and hand out his forgiveness without me even asking for it. Kogen was made to be abused.
"Getting mad at someone who's used to it is pointless."
"Many have tried and they all failed." I boasted.
"I thought you did not want to succumb to being the God that they want you to be?" he brought up an important point which scraped the growing vagueness of my resolve. My eyes widened in realization of my actions and guilt ate away my joy.
"Ah...Yes, I apologize. It's just that...It is hard to turn away from something that you are born with. No matter how hard I hide it, it just sprouts out."
This was the very reason why I did not want to leave the Planet of Gods. I got so used to the setting there that handling my temper was easy. Now that I was exposed to this new milieu, I did not notice that I was slowly succumbing to what I feared of.
"Do not fret Corlos, there are creatures that cause far more devastation than you do and they are not even entitled as the God of death and destruction. All of us possess a destructive behavior and despite the fact that you are the God of such, not all demolitions are brought by your actions."
I gazed down at our moving feet and became silent throughout our trekking. Being the God of destruction and death meant that I was able to utilize all the powers, elements and strategies of the universe and use it in accordance to my desire. I was afraid of what I can do and so I do my best to suppress my true nature. I was afraid of abusing my own power which could lead to the devastation of many innocent lives.
Kogen and I continued with our journey and gradually I could catch the glimpse of the nearing temple in the desert. The temple glowed in the darkness of the night and brought hope to the eyes of the thirsty. It was made of radiant blue water with zekes swimming inside its thick aqueous walls. Each part of the walls simultaneously gleamed as they mildly moved in calm waves.
"Majestic isn't it? You have yet to see the many wonders of the universe Corlos and I promise you that I have millions of uncovered sceneries that I am willing to discover with you," Kogen offered.
"It is—" before I could reply to Kogen, I was tackled to the sand and our bodies rolled down the short slope of softness.
Who knew Kogen was this touchy?
When we finally came into a stop and my companion's body stayed on top of me, I questioned his actions. I was mildly annoyed but just as he said, I cannot hurt my allies and I need to control my temper.
"What's your problem Ko...gen?"
My question bloomed into an inner turmoil once I have opened my eyes. The person on top of me was not Kogen.
"¡Maldición! (Darn it!) I don't think this is him Rupture!" The creature on top of me called out.
He had patches of hardened and roughened ivory skin which resembled something scaly and leathery all over his face and hands but majority of his exposed skin was much like mine but his was tanner. He had two ivory colored horns on top of his white hair pointed backwards and another set of horns curled behind his head. A white tail swished back and forth behind him and he was wearing a heavy silver armor which added to his weight.
The universe was simply reminding me that I was small and fragile.
The creature on top of me grinned showing his feral teeth. "Discluparse (I apologize), wrong person," he spoke and I grinned back at him before saying.
"Then get off of me," I demanded after letting my friendly expression fall.
"Chaos, just move your ass," Rupture sighed and peeled him off of me. He and Rupture was similar and the only way you could tell them apart was from the places of ivory patches on their faces and that Chaos was more playful looking.
"It's been a long time," Kogen spoke catching their attention.
"Kogen, it has been fifty years!" Chaos greeted and gave Kogen a quick hug and pat. They were really humungous. I could have died from that tackle.
"Where have you been all this time? You never visit Ymra anymore," Rupture spoke and gave the same treatment that Chaos did.
"Ah well, you know me, I always wander about. Has it really been fifty years?" Kogen asked and ushered me to walk to his side. I anchored on my spot and crossed my arms at him defiantly. Kogen rolled his eyes and just put his hand out towards me. "That little one over there is Corlos. May I ask why you tackled him like some delinquent? I do understand that he acts like one but he is a good boy...I think."
Oh I see; this night was just bully the smallest kid type of night. I cannot believe that I was reduced to being that little one.
"Ah we were on patrol. Some of the knights here saw a lurking figure with black hair and Chaos thought that Corlos might be the one keeping us alert."
"My bad, I forgot that the knights described the suspect as tall. I should have known that it wasn't him seeing that Corlos had a cute stature," Chaos chuckled.
I released a "Hmph" before darting my gaze at Kogen. "Pai (Papa), your cute son with a cute stature is tired. I want to rest."
Kogen's eyes went wide and the two newcomers gave him a look of surprise.
"You have a son Kogen?" Rupture asked.
"A cute one at that!" Chaos exclaimed.
"I have a son?" Kogen murmured to himself before the realization of being tricked hit him. "I don't have a son he's only making a fool out of you!"
"Up until this date you are still in denial about your role as a father. Shame on you Pai!"
I squinted my gaze at the bewildered Kogen before pointing my finger at Chaos causing him tense up. "And you there, you twisted my ankle and caused me an owiee, take responsibility for it!"
Kogen slapped his forehead and swayed his head in disapproval and I gave Chaos a grin.
Can you blame me if I feel slightly insecure about my height? This was my only chance and Chaos looked stupid enough for me to manipulate.
"I cannot believe this Corlos," Kogen sighed.
"Shut up you irresponsible Pai. At least I'm taller than you now!"
I sat on Chaos' shoulders as we walk through the hallway of the temple. Many knights saluted at Chaos and Rupture and at the same time they questioned my presence with their eyes.
I learned that Chaos and Rupture were Aykes from the Planet Ymra and that they travel from planet to planet to gather knowledge that they may contribute to their world. They decided to stay in Planet Belraria as Knights in a higher position and that they were brothers making Rupture being the older one between them.
A tall statue of a faceless man wearing a long robe stood at the end of the hallway. One of his hands rested on his side and the other one was extended with his palm facing upwards. A brightly lit orb was placed on top of his hand and released powerful waves of light.
"It is good that the stone remains safe. Exercise strict precaution. It would seem that there are many eyes staring with intensity at it," Kogen advised.
A female toscan came out from behind the statue and as if she was specifically looking for someone, her eyes wandered a bit and landed on Chaos. She was a tall toscan female wearing a white robe with a magic wooden staff following her. Her wings had a unique shade of pink on them indicating that she was a special kind of toscan. The kind that you won't like.
Her eyes show that she wasn't pleased with me on top of Chaos and no matter how hard she tried to suppress it, I can feel the darkness hiding beneath her façade of kindness.
"Welcome visitors, I am Priestess Ebu," she greeted. "I see that you and our respected Knights are well acquainted," she spoke with a bit of shakiness in her voice.
"We mistook them for the person lurking around the temple. Chaos tackled this boy to the ground and accidentally twisted his ankle in the process," Rupture explained.
"A-Ah I see!" Ebu replied but was still not sated by the reason. "Then, let me help you. I do not want our Knights to burden themselves."
That did not sit right with me. Those were wrong use of words. Burden? I was the one violated here.
Chaos waved his hands in dismissal. "It's really no burden Ebu. Corlos doesn't even weigh a feather. I can carry him all night."
My shoulder rose a bit from thrill from seeing the slow revelation of this priestess' anger due to jealousy and Chaos was entertaining me without even noticing.
"Let me welcome you with hospitality. Let me see your wounds little one," Ebu offered.
I faked a pout and crossed my arms. "I don't want to. It feels nice on top of Chaos."
The priestess took a piercing gasped. "Re-really now? Well, um, please consider that our knights have many things to do. They cannot be troubled for far too long!" she spoke.
I can hear her seconds away from snapping.
"Come now Corlos, why don't you let Rupture carry you instead?" Kogen offered. I can see it in his eyes the scolding that I was going to get later.
I felt someone gently tug me from behind and my legs immediately wrapped around Chaos' neck.
"Come over here," Rupture grunted.
"No! I want to be with Chaos! That ugly bird is just envious!"
I can hear the strangling noises coming out from Chaos as Rupture tried to peel me off of his brother. Boy, the two of us were all over each other from the moment we met huh?
This must be the will of the Gods.
Eh...Yeah yeah it was. I was a God after all.
A few more pulling from Rupture and the bird finally tried to intervene with her magic voodoo.
"Enough of this you ungrateful scoundrel!" she shouted and a green light beamed out of her staff.
I simply passed a gaze at her and repelled whatever magic she was trying to do. Esgard really didn't give her any power. It didn't even pinch my butt. Ebu looked shocked that I wasn't sent flying to the other space and I couldn't even acknowledge her efforts to claim her ome true love from being stolen.
"Corlos, son, please enough of this. Poor Chaos is already cyanotic," Kogen sweetly cooed. I stopped my struggle and a twisted smirk grew on my lips. It was the type of smirk that occurred whenever a person was concealing laughter.
"Alright then, but let me just give Chaos a thank you gift," I chirped and straightened my back. I lifted Chaos' face upwards and gave him a quick peck on the nose before flipping off of him and landing perfectly on the ground with my feet.
"Oh will you look at that, I guess my twisted ankle was all psychological. I was cured by Chaos' love."
By this time, Ebu was hyperventilating and Chaos turned around with an expression of disbelief. Rupture chuckled in amusement and slowly, Chaos grinned and exploded with a cackle.
Rupture showed us to our room while Chaos was forced by his brother to comfort Ebu. When the three of us were concealed, that was when Kogen began to scold me.
"You shouldn't have done that Corlos! You just left a very bad first impression to the priestess."
I looked around the room and discovered rectangular shaped water beds with zekes swimming inside.
"Corlos, are you listening?" he questioned me.
"Nope."
"You got your hands full with this one Kogen," Rupture commented.
"If she wanted to say something awful to me then she should done so at first glance. I hate pretentious fools. They are the worse type of people to be with," I spoke out before looking at Rupture who possessed no disapproval of what I stated.
"I won't apologize," I firmly declared.
"No need," Rupture approved. "I like your guts."
Kogen walked in front of me with the intensity of a typhoon. "She is pretentious because she is trying to be matured enough to tolerate immature children like you. I am truly disappointed in you Corlos. Truly, I am."
I know that his words had deeper meaning than that. Rupture may have understood it as Kogen being frustrated at his son but the silent communication and tensed rope between Kogen and I was beyond father and son.
Kogen was criticizing me as a God and can you believe that we just met one day ago?
Somehow, this simple prank left deeper wounds to my pride.
"You're not the first one," I told him. "And you won't be the last one to tell me that."
I sauntered towards the window and climbed out with a heavy heart.
"Where are you going?" Rupture asked.
"My pet zeke, I lost it in the sand when Chaos tackled me. I'll go find it," I replied before jumping out. I avoided the knights and stealthily made my way outside of the temple's walls.
Kogen was more annoying than Guardian. How can he enable a pretentious fool like her? If Guardian was here, he would have rooted for me and teased the priestess with me.
If Guardian was here...I wouldn't feel so out of place.
I went to the spot where Chaos and I lied and dug a little before feeling something rough and roundish underneath the sand. I pulled up my zeke and smiled at it.
"Sorry, I forgot about you but I came back didn't I?"
So much had happened and though I had my joyful moments in this planet...I still felt homesick.
Pretentious fools were mature?
Fuxborh wanted me to be someone that I didn't want to be.
Preposterous.
This was only my first time seeing Ebu. I will not judge her so quickly. I will give her a chance and I will see if I can tolerate her.
"Corlos?" I heard Chaos from behind me. I turned to him holding my zeke up and raised my eyebrows in question.
"What can I do for you?"
"I figured that since it is your first time here that I'd show you to the best places in this planet," he offered.
"What about Ebu?" I asked him. "She seems to not like me around you."
Chaos laughed and placed his hands on his hip and letting his shoulder slump forward. "She's like that to everyone. She can't take a no. So are you in?"
I petted my zeke's head before nodding. "Sure, I don't have anything to lose anyway. Where are we going?"
Chaos marched towards me and excitedly landed his hands over my shoulders.
"Do you want to see the aliens that killed the toscans?"
...
...
...
"I like Ebu. She seems to be a very wonderful woman," Lucian deadpanned as he chewed on the baby carrots.
"Eh?~ I don't like her very much!" Caleb whined and pounced on Lucian's sitting form.
"Sounds like a total desperate bitch to me," Samael yawned on Lucian's lap before looking at Thomas who was currently embracing me like someone was going to take me away. "Chaos ain't even here and yet fairy boy is actin' like someone's gonna rob him."
"Do not judge so fast Samael. She may be someone of great value," Raphael commented.
I'll have no comment on that. I was just here to spread my tale and I shall not add or subtract any fact.
"Reminds me of someone....Hmm I wonder who it was? Can you help me think Sevor because I just I can't bring myself to let the name roll on my tongue," Slade spoke with such bitterness.
"Leave me alone," Sevor grumbled.
