48: CHRONICLES OF COCO (PART 4)
"Did you find anything?" I asked Kogen as I sat down on the newly made nest inside a big hole of a giant tree.
The tree houses of the toscans were far from the emporium since they value silence when resting. I was relieved that the female toscans finally left me be after I told them that I was exhausted from having to destroy such a huge rock and that I needed to rest alone in case they further insisted on lying beside me.
I will not bear anyone's eggs for God's sakes. Just thinking of having such relationships and interaction with the bare skin scared me to death. I despised clinginess. My frigid personality was due to being raised in such a way by Guardian and the other Gods.
Guardian wasn't exactly the amiable and tenderhearted parent who'll praise you for every good deed. He was the most disagreeable and cold-blooded animal who'll laugh at your mistakes and put salt all over your wounds just to toughen you up. For these reasons, I won't get along with soft-hearted people. They'll only slow me down despite the fact that I was not even in a race to begin with.
What the heck was I going to do with my life? Was it normal for a God to not know what path He should take? Was it normal for a God to be this clueless when it comes to His future?
Damn it, why was this nest so coarse? This was Guardian's fault.
"Yes, the Light Stone of Belraria contains half of the power of God Esgard. Though it doesn't entrap a whole God, the power that the stone contains is still massive. I need to visit the temple where the stone lies to see if it is safe from the hands of the wicked," Kogen replied as he brushed his already smooth and lustrous hair with his comb.
"Stop combing your hair, it's already pretty," I muttered and lied to my side as I watched him.
His silver hair pooled down on his nest and extended to my side of the tree where my nest was. How can someone have that lengthy mane without tripping was beyond my comprehension. Maybe I can give Kogen a trim if he somehow fell asleep. It was just a trim...Alright maybe I little shaving here and there he wouldn't even notice the difference.
"I'm just maintaining it, there's nothing wrong with that," he reasoned out.
"Are your nether hairs just as long?" I asked him as I twirled the thick strands of his hair around my finger.
"Nether hairs?" he questioned.
"Yes, the hair on your graveyard," I pushed on. Wasn't my question obvious?
"Graveyard?" he added on the pile of unanswered questions for the night.
"It's a resting place for something waiting for its time to be resurrected," I sighed.
"Come again?" Kogen asked. His voice was sounding a hint of frustration.
"Oh forget it!" I groaned causing Kogen to laugh.
"I'm just joking with you Corlos and no I don't have any hairs down there. I can't believe we're having this conversation."
"Hn," I replied and turned away from him to look at the ceiling.
I left Kogen obsessing over his hair and fell asleep while imagining his pubic hair being as long as his exposed hair. Kogen will be reeking of hair and I might just study how to braid both ends together just to make it hard for him to live and breathe. It was just an experiment on how'll Gods can handle stress.
"Curiosity killed Corlos and the Gods he angered brought him back just to kill him again," Guardian spoke out through my dreams of Kogen's suffering.
"Oh shut up, I still blame you for the rough nest."
Once I woke up, Kogen wasn't beside me anymore. It was still night time so I decided to visit the emporium again to see if there was anything interesting for my amusement. As I was trekking my way towards the emporium and played on the soft sand by jumping and rolling on it, I heard a loud explosion and saw a flaring inferno shooting up to the skies. One inferno ball was shot again after the other and it was like a miniature meteor shower except the meteors weren't crashing down; they were being shot up.
I hastily rose from the sand and sprinted towards the source of the fireballs and found a shop selling these little creatures which were the ones being hurled up into space using bombards. The unsold were placed inside a huge cube of mere water that was being held into such a shape by magic.
"What are these?" I asked the male toscan attending to the customers.
The creatures were as big as my head and they had blue scales which glowed as they floated. They were round and had little flaps at each side of their heads for swimming. They also had this triangular fin running on top of their heads with two huge and glimmering black dots serving as eyes on their faces.
"These are Zekes. We shoot them up to space and it is said that they can deliver messages to people who we've lost and can even make wishes come true," the toscan explained and brought out one zeke. The zeke on his hand which was once scaly transformed into a birdlike creature. The flaps became small light red feathery wings and its once sapphire body became vermillion in color.
I hummed in approval of such an idea and circled the huge cube of water. I noticed that there was one particular zeke which was different in color. It wasn't even floating like the rest of its kind. It had this stony characteristic. There were fluctuations of a hot red color in the cracks of its face and a crimson red gem was situated on its forehead. Two pointy ears sat on its head and its expression was blank compared to the friendly nature of the other zekes.
"Would you like to try brave hero?" the toscan questioned. I can't believe they actually believed that I willingly saved them. The attention was ticking me off. I had to sneak my way towards this shop without getting noticed by the females.
I focused on the unique zeke at the corner of the cube and nodded. "Yes, I'd like that one," I stated and pointed at it. The toscan gave a sheepish laugh and I turned my attention to him. He didn't seem alright with my choice.
"Ah that one is not working. I don't even know what's wrong with it but I'm guessing that it isn't a zeke at all considering its appearance," he told me. I narrowed my gaze at him and refocused my attention to the inactive zeke.
"But I want it," I deadpanned. I was a customer and I was willing to pay any amount since Kogen seemed to have plentiful currency hidden somewhere.
If somehow I mistakenly abused the richness that Kogen had and nothing was left of it, I'll just put his hair in an auction.
"It's very non-functional my glorious hero," the toscan pushed on. "You'll only regret it. It's not really for sale anymore."
I closed my eyes in annoyance and crossed my arms as I straightened up. "Then are you saying that you are false advertising everything in this cube?" I pointed out. "Why even place it there if it's not for sale?" I stubbornly asked.
The toscan began to stutter out as he explained his side. "It will endanger everyone my boy, it just doesn't fly."
I'll just have to see it for myself.
"I still want it. I'll pay you ten golden seeds for it. That's worth twenty thousand correct?"
The toscan was very much hesitant to sell me this zeke but I refuse to back down on this. I want it. I'll give them Kogen if I have to.
Two bigger toscans were called in order to carry the little zeke causing my eyebrows to raise in question. The toscans entered the cube just to retrieve the creature while the rest of the zekes being bought were retrieved with a water skimmer net.
"Is it that heavy?" I asked when I watched their struggle with lifting the zeke up.
They were straining too many muscles on there. The soaked toscans came out with a wheeze as they carried the zeke out. I approached the struggling toscans and with one hand I tried to remove the burden from their feathers.
I was expecting something heavy much like Guardian's ego yet...
"Huh?" I questioned in awe when I perfectly lifted the zeke with one hand above my head with no difficulty at all.
The two toscans gawked at me in astonishment and confusion along with the owner. I tossed the zeke on my other hand and started to juggle it while giving the three toscans a deadpanned look.
"Wh-what are you a God or something?" the owner blurted out.
I turned away from them and shrugged. "I'm just a cute boy," I replied.
I approached the toscan in charge of one of the many bombards and he gazed at me adoringly. I hid the zeke that I bought behind me and gazed up at him. The structure of the bombard was unique. It was inside a transparent blue ball with intricate markings of the toscan alphabet. The ball was lifted by two metallic poles and there was a chair inside the ball just beside the bombard in which end pierced out of the sphere. There was also a pedal for rotating the sphere.
"Aw hello there young boy, have you seen the outsider who saved our village? I heard that he was so strong and just...virile from the female toscans. He must be some brute. It's too bad that I wasn't in the village at that time. It would have really been an honor to meet him and challenge him in a duel. Are you somehow related to him? You aren't from here. Is he your father?"
You talk too much, shut up or I'll kill you! I mean...
Damn this... I despise my murderous thoughts.
"I want to send a message to someone. Will my zeke get there personally and deliver that message?" I asked him.
The noisy toscan nodded and then extended his hands for me to place my zeke.
"Yes, just whisper your message to it and imagine the image of the person you want to send your message to before sending it away." He nicely explained.
I nodded in understanding and turned around making sure that he did not see my zeke.
I was starting to long for Guardian. Usually, we would wander about after my hundred year torture in the hoosegow and I'll help him take care of the newborn Gods and Goddesses. At those times of freedom, I realised that Guardian had an amazing self-control and temper. He handled the newborn Gods and Goddesses humurously no matter how prideful they were while I on the otherhand, almost strangled six of the many to death.
I don't know how Guardian can do it everyday but I was grateful that I was once under his care.
"Corlos, let the child go. They are Gods but they are still children. Do not punish the weak and the ignorant; simply understand them."
There were so many incidents in which I lost control and if not for Guardian, I could have been the God that they all expected me to be.
"Guardian I miss you but...you are still a hideous imbecile," I whispered.
I excitedly twirled around and quickly placed the zeke on the toscan's hands and before he could even realize it, his body was already hauled to the ground by the weight of the creature with a scream indicating that he was much in pain.
Oh so those two toscans before weren't faking it. I thought that they were only putting a show in order to discourage me from buying this zeke.
"Sorry, I forgot to warn you about its weight," I giggled and picked the zeke up.
I quickly climbed the stairs leading to the blue ball and sat on the chair. Currently, the bombard was aiming horizontally. I put the zeke inside the cannon and slammed the cover shut before holding the handles beside it and pushing the pedal beneath me to move the sphere. The cannon pointed diagonally and I pressed the other pedal beneathe me and the sound of my cannon charging excited me.
More sounds of explosion sounded and soon the sound of my own bombard joined them but not without the forewarned catastrophe.
When my bombard shot the zeke, the weight of the zeke upon ejection caused the whole structure to fall into shambles.
The ball I was in rolled out of its place and I found myself laughing out of joy and excitement. This was superb!
The ball kept rolling and rolling until someone put it into a stop. I raised my gaze and found Kogen gazing at me with a look of amusement and I crawled out of the dislodged sphere.
"Having fun I see," Kogen muttered.
Gasps from the villagers were heard and all of them pointed at the crashing ball which was probably my zeke.
The owner wasn't kidding when he said that it couldn't fly. Now I believe him.
"I got it!" I volunteered before leaping up and meeting the blazing ball halfway before tackling it far from the village. The blazing heat was a little painful but the crashing part was what I wanted to do again.
Kogen followed me out of the village and helped me up.
"Do you think they'll let me send this zeke to space again?" I asked. The zeke was unresponsive and didn't even budge an expression.
It was Kogen's turn to cross his arms. "You just destroyed one of their income makers. That costs twenty five golden seeds."
I stroked the head of the zeke and grinned at Kogen.
"You're rich aren't you?"
The long-haired God narrowed his gaze at me. "I don't spit seeds or pee them out Corlos so don't go out rampaging and destroying expensive property," he scolded before sighing.
"Let's just head to our next destination," he stated before starting to walk.
"Where?" I asked him.
"To the temple where the stone lies. We aren't allowed to teleport therefore let us begin our journey now. "
I hummed in approval and lifted my zeke up. "I got a new pet. All is well," I chirped as I stared at its blank expression.
All was well huh? How delusional of me.

"It's missing! The light stone has been stolen!"
